#twinsiefortheday – Drowning Lessons by Rachel Neuburger Reynolds

You are cordially invited to a destination wedding to die for… Welcome to Bocas del Toro, a remote chain of islands off the Caribbean coast of Panama. Five days of glorious sun and lush rainforest await the forty guests celebrating Bridezilla Olivia’s dream wedding—but will a grisly murder sink the catered affair? Before anyone’s got time to start working on a tan, an unfortunate snorkeling accident eliminates a member of the wedding party. Maid of honor Lexie Marino smells trouble, and takes it upon herself to investigate, hoping to solve the case before her bestie’s trip down the aisle gets tropically derailed.

Lexie’s a little too tall, a little too awkward, and a little too brokenhearted, but she’s determined to nail the real killer. Can this unlikely sleuth stay afloat as she’s hit by wave after wave of wildly entertaining characters, including an alpha bride, surfing detectives, and a high school flame long forgotten? You’ll find yourself laughing until the very end of Drowning Lessons, a debut cozy mystery that makes the perfect beach read. Rub in some coconut oil, dangle your feet in the crystal-blue waters of Starfish Beach, and sip a cool drink as Lexie discovers the deductive superpowers she never knew she had. Let the party begin!

This is the first book of five in the Red Frog Beach Mystery Series.

I received this book for an honest review.

I will admit that I don’t read many mystery novels. The ones I do read though, usually end up
being interesting and this one is no exception. What’s more interesting than a bunch of
strangers shoved together for a destination wedding that has a giant bridezilla? Ones that have
skeletons and secrets in their closets that they are trying to hide when the best man gets
murdered.
Poor Lexi is the maid of honor for her best friend Olivia’s wedding. Olivia is taking bridezilla to
the next level with her destination wedding weeklong schedule. Lexi is trying desperately to
keep everything from becoming a disaster when Olivia decides that nobody needs to know that
the best man has been murdered, and that the wedding must go on. When Olivia’s sister shows
up with a plan to ruin the wedding that includes an ex that broke her sister’s heart, Lexi’s
problems hit nuclear level. Between love, lies, murder and lots of secrets Lexi learns a lot about
herself and her best friend.
There are some really interesting characters in this book that have some surprises up their
sleeve. The world building is pretty good, and I felt like I could feel the ocean breeze and picture
the small coastal town so clearly. I mostly gave this book five stars because I was drawn into the
story not just because of the murder mystery but because of Lexi’s struggles to come to terms
with truths about herself, her best friend, and what she really wanted in her life.

I received this book for an honest review.

This is not my usual cup of tea, but it was interesting. Rose’s husband has died in a car accident, and
little lies start to come out about his activities. Rose has always relied on her husband for everything and
now has to try to come to terms with how much he kept hidden from her. She starts to suspect that
everyone around her is hiding things from her and her world starts to unravel.
I have to hand it to the author. Just when you think that you have it figured out a new twist is thrown in
and more lies come out. Even at the end when you really think you’ve got it there’s an even bigger twist.
There is no adult content and it suits the storyline that way. There is some violence, but you have to
wonder is it real? Did Rose imagine it? Is she loosing her mind? Things get a bit dicey here and there
especially when people start ending up dead. The real question is why can’t Rose remember anything
before the age of 7 and why is she having black outs? You don’t really see the real answer to that
question coming at all!

#WOTR24 #NewRelease #Review – Rhythm (Rocky Mountain Rockstars #3) by: Jade C. Jamison

He’s a quiet drummer who avoids relationships.
She’s an outspoken tattoo artist who only wants to have a little fun.

Claire has been commissioned to design a logo for Adrian’s band Intent to Murder, but she’s had her eye on the sexy drummer for a while now. The guy is hotter than Death Valley and unlike any of the a-holes she’s dated in the past.

Not that it matters…because Claire doesn’t plan on nurturing a relationship. She just wants to get this cutie out of her system.

Good luck with that. Adrian’s not willing to pursue any sort of relationship, just for fun or not. But the chemistry between them can only be ignored for so long…

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third book in the Rocky Mountain Rockstars series.  I could not wait to read about the quite drummer, Adrian, and the amazing tattoo artist, Claire.

Intent to Murder ask Claire to design a logo for the band. Claire and Adrian see sparks fly but both hold back. Adrian doesn’t date due to things that happened in his past. Claire has issues with trust due to her past and parents. I loved when these two are together but when they let their paranoia get in the way things go astray.

I liked that not only did we get to see Claire and Adrian navigate their friendship to more than that relationship but we get to see the other band members. I enjoyed that we get to see more of the inside workings of the band like their thought process for the possible tours and merchandising.  This was more than a love story but also a journey through an entire bands livelihood. I cannot wait for more of this series. I love the band members and the ones they fall in love with.

#newrelease – The Night The Stars Went Dark – By: Heather D’Agostino

As the only child of world-famous pianist, Julian Vaughn, I was born into music. It wasn’t just what I did, it was it who I was. I began taking lessons at the tender of six. I was raised to follow in my father’s legacy. It wasn’t just that I wanted to be the best, it was expected.
I went to all the best schools, trained with the best teachers, and spent my summers at special camps. I was right on the cusp of graduating college with all my dreams coming true, when tragedy struck.
Grief caused me to give it all up and silence my talent… until he came into town. The boy I knew from years ago remembered the girl I used to be and was determined to help me find her… only I wasn’t sure I wanted him to.
Could I go back and love the one thing that made me remember?

I received this book for an honest review.

This was a tough story for me to read losing a parent recently this hit a bit close to home. I have to say I liked Aspen, a/k/a Penny, and absolutely loved Bryson.

Aspen lost her mom and it was just her and her dad. Her dad was big in the music world and Penny was trying to make her way in it also. I liked that Penny is trying to make her way in to the music world on her own and her dad is not making it happen for her. The relationship Penny and her dad have I absolutely love; her dad is her rock and gives her the confidence she needs to succeed on her own. Her best friend Bryson is right there with her cheering her on and giving her the push she needs. When tragedy hits Penny a second time and she wants to give up on everything she has worked so hard for her music and Bryson.

Bryson refuses to give up on her nor is he willing to allow her to give up on herself. Bryson is so good to Penny and understanding of what she is going through. He is there to help her through everything, encourage her and cheer her on just like he always has. I LOVE Bryson he is so amazing and caring. He knows what Aspen needs and has a way of making her see it also. Bryson is good for her he is good at pushing her outside her comfort zone making her a more well-rounded person. Everyone needs a Bryson in their life.

WOTR24 #NewRelease #Review – Devoted (Alumbra Pack book 5) by AJ Renee

No matter how much you try, you can’t outrun the past.

Opening old wounds is the last thing Ignacio Lupita wants to do. He’d literally and figuratively shed his blood, sweat, and tears to pull himself out of the darkness and open an auto shop in Boston. At last, business is picking up, so he’s working with a local pack to keep his life moving forward.

Pepper Michaels is living her best life in Vermont. One of her best friends has returned after three years in captivity, she’s working on her teaching degree, substitute teaching, and life on Malite land has been carefree to say the least. She thought she couldn’t be happier, but then she spotted him, her mate.

When the past is thrust before Ignacio, Pepper witnesses a side of him she can’t ignore. She knows she only gets one chance at a mate, but she hadn’t expected she’d need to be so careful around hers. Meanwhile, someone or something has been lurking on pack grounds. Can Ignacio confront enough of his demons before everything closes in?

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I love this series and was so excited to get this one in my hands.  Each book draws me in more and more to the pack.  This story is all about Ignacio and Pepper and what a story it is.

Ignacio has lived his life alone and family always leaving.  His sisters ran away and his parents left him. He was left to those that should have protected him but didn’t. Ignacio had to fight his way to where he was and was able to make things work for him.  He was even branching out and working with a pack. While visiting one day he thought he found his mate, Carrie. But soon figured out he was wrong about her being his mate.

Things were going good for Pepper. She had her best friends Carrie and Kim, going to school and had a job substitute teaching. When her mating mark made its appearance, she realized it was the guy Carrie was on a date with and she would not get in Carrie’s way of happiness. The mate pull was too strong and Pepper realized Carrie was not interested in Ignacio oh man did the sparks start to fly for Pepper and Ignacio.

Things were going well for these two in the matting department but they really didn’t know anything about each other and their pasts.  Ignacio’s finds his past staring him in the face and reacts a way that scares Pepper so much so she is not sure about the mate that was fated to her.  Will Ignacio be able to explain his past and everything that lead up to his reaction or will Pepper be lost to him forever.

This series has me hooked and I cannot wait to see this pack grow.  There is not one matted pair I have not liked.  I enjoyed all their stories and seeing them come together when things go astray.  This story had me flipping the pages like crazy.  I could not put this one down.

#WOTR24 – #NewRelease #Review – A Bargain With The Shadow Prince – By: Genevieve Jack

It takes a monster to stop a monster.

Light the candle.
Stand naked before the symbol.
Offer your blood.

The advocate will come.

I left my abusive crime boss husband expecting to start over from nothing. After all, the prenup I signed when I married him is ironclad. But when Tony uses a loophole in the law to go after my ancestral family home—the one I’m currently living in and my grandmother is dying in—I’m desperate to stop him.

My witch best friend Maeve offers a solution. She lends me a family spell to call a supernatural advocate to deal with Tony. After all, it takes a monster to stop a monster.

But when I follow her instructions, I’m not expecting the darkly handsome Damien to form from the shadows, or to learn that he’s been a prisoner of Maeve’s family for centuries. From the moment he accepts my bargain and drinks my blood, he awakens a passion in me, one charged with latent magic. Magic formidable enough to restore my true self. Magic that holds the promise of Damien’s freedom.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

This is the first book I have read of Genevieve Jack.  I was not disappointed and I’m so ready for the next book.  This is a cliffhanger and I believe is book one of four.  This book takes us on a wild ride.

Eloise soon to be ex-husband, Tony, is making it so she has nothing.  He is even trying to take her family home from her.  Her best friend and Attorney, Maeve, has another way for Eloise to keep her family home.  Maeve gives her a family candle where Eloise summons a shade, Damien, to make a bargain to help her. Eloise has no idea what she was getting herself into.  Damien was sexy and there was something about him that caught Eloise’s attention (and mine to be honest). There was so much chemistry between these two it had my heart racing.

Damien is a shade and has been tied to Maeve’s family for centuries by the candle. Anytime he is summoned he has to come and has to do Maeve’s family biding.  When Maeve lends the candle to her BFF Eloise to help he. Eloise summons Damien to make a deal and allows him to drink her blood.

I love Eloise she seems like a weak female but she really surprises me throughout the book.  She makes a deal with Damien but then realizes what he is going to do and has a change of heart.  Eloise just cannot live with herself if Tony dies because of her choices.  So now Damien and Eloise make a new deal.

I fell hard for Damien even though we are told he is a monster there is more to him than what Maeve and her family has seen.  He has such a big heart and you see it when he is with Eloise.  You can tell the frustration he has with her but he always treats her like a princess. Now that Eloise is away from Tony her personality starts to show though. I enjoyed seeing Eloise open up and become the woman she was always meant to be. Eloise falls for Damien no matter how many warnings Maeve gives her. She is not afraid of Damien and knows there is more to him than the monster she is told he is.

I enjoyed learning of Damiens world and seeing the love between Eloise and Damien evolve.  There are so many twists and turns in this book it kept me flipping those pages.  Like I said before I am so ready for book two, I need more of Eloise and Damien.  I cannot wait to see where the next book will take us. I want to learn more about Damien and Eloise future and their families past.

#WOTR24 #Review – Jill (The Mates book 5 and The Protectors book 23) by: Teresa Gableman

Once again, Jill stood at the crossroads of her life. The decision to leave her role as a VC Warrior had been a devastating choice that shattered her very being. Yet, the Warrior she had been molded into demanded the sacrifice, pushing her toward an uncertain future.

As she is confronted with a terrifying opportunity, Jill understands that there is only one path she can follow, even if it means risking everything she holds dear. The weariness of being a burden to others and, most importantly, to herself fuels her determination to forge her own destiny.

Loyalties will be strained, friendships challenged, and the bonds she cherishes will be tested. It’s a journey of self-discovery, a quest to unveil the real strength within Jill ‘Nichols’ Buchanan that hopefully leads her back to where she truly belongs.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Every time a new book in this series comes out I absolutely devour it. Seriously I have loved most of these characters from the start. Really how can you not love this bad a$$ vampire. Jill did not ask to be one but man has she dominated being one.

Jill is always trying to prove herself and tries to protect everyone around but her she doesn’t see the love and support everyone has for her. Jill has fought so hard to be a warrior but when she thinks no one has her back she walks away from everyone. She is so in her head she doesn’t listen to what people are trying to tell her.  Jill only hears what she thinks they are saying. She believes walking away is the only option. The only problem is this has her walking right into a hornet’s nest.

I love how patient Slade is with Jill. He still gives her the nudges she needs but gives her space to realize what the truth is. I enjoy seeing all the warriors and Guardians in each of these books. I loved seeing the hard and soft sides to these warriors/guardians. There are so many things I want to know what will happen to our young Daniel he has so much riding on his shoulders. OMG, I need more of King too. He is such an enigma to me. Really, I absolutely adore him.

This is one series once I jump into a book, I cannot put it down.

For Maria, Pedro is just a distraction. If she doesn’t keep her eye on the prize, she’ll be stuck in small town Charlotte forever.

That suits Pedro just fine, because the closer he gets to her, the more dangerous it becomes. There’s a monster inside him…and falling for Maria might just unleash it.

This story is about Pedro and Maria. Both are so attracted to the other but both hold back.  Maria has had a crush on her brother’s bandmate for a while but it her brother’s friend.

Watching these two dance around one another until the day they started moving to the same beat. Padro didn’t think he was capable of loving anyone they always found a way to leave him. Therefore, he was a one-night stand kinda guy. I mean really isn’t that what rockstars do. Maria starts working for the band and is around more and more. The pull these two have to one another is hard to ignore. Their past and trying to protect their hearts could put the breaks on this relationship before it really has time to develop.

This story kept me turning pages there were times I loved Padro and Maria together and there were times I was yelling at Padro the way he treated Maria. I absolutely loved Padro’s grandmother and the time we got to spend with her. I also enjoyed seeing the band members. I cannot wait for the next book I am hooked reading about the characters in the Intent to Murder band.

I received an arc from the Author for an honest review.

I absolutely love Tijan’s writing so when I saw this one I jumped at the chance without reading what the book is about. I do not usually read or listen to True Crime or dark. I was a bit nervous when I started this and realized what it was about. I have to say I LOVED everything about this book. Billie and Brett both pulled me in so fast and deep it was hard to set this book down.

Billie has been through so much in her lifetime. Always losing those she loves. Being in the house when she lost her best friend and survived the Midwest Butcher. Then loosing her mother and brother within the same week. Billie is a loner likes her life of solitude with her chickens but every year since the killing of her best friend she is tossed into the limelight that she wants no part of. Billie decides to do her first TV interview about surviving the Midwest Butcher, when she stumbles into the one and only Brett Broudou the newest rising football player.

What can I say about Brett Broudou. I loved him really he is a famous football player and always in the media. However, he is not one to search out the fame. To be honest when these two came together I was not sure how it would work. Brett and Billie make the perfect pair. He is so protective of her looking out for her wanting to make sure she is safe. The date he takes her on knowing her love of animals it was perfect.

I felt so many emotions while reading this book. It was like being on the best rollercoaster there were great happy moments, then there was some oh crap now what moments and in between we had sweet and funny moments. I enjoyed seeing new characters and seeing some of the characters from other books of Tijan’s. It’s always nice to see someone you knew and liked. I would love to learn more about some of Brett’s teammates now that we have seen them.

A few of my favorite quotes:

“She left her digits for you.” I snatched it up. “I got her number?” “You got her number.” He studied me thoughtfully. “First time I’ve seen you like this.”

For all the chaos in the world, there was also magic. I didn’t know how to explain it, to understand it, but as Brett drove up the driveway, it was there, Magic. A calm in the storm.
