#ReleaseDay #Review – Fool Me Once, A Codie Snow Novel by Jade Jamison

Fool Me Once (Codie Snow #1)

synopsis

Something’s gotta give…but Codie Snow doesn’t know if it needs to be her non-committal workaholic ex-boyfriend attorney Slade Sheppard or her unsatisfying job as a nursing assistant. Because even though the chemistry with Slade is off-the-charts hot and the job is a necessary evil, she doesn’t know that she wants either.

Enter Pete Olsen, bad ass cop in charge of serving and protecting the town of Dalton, Colorado. Codie goes on a ride-along with Pete and sees the seedy underbelly of her town, witnessing the gamut–from an amusing domestic dispute to a frightening meth lab explosion–and she decides that law enforcement is not for her.

But Pete just might be.

When Codie learns that a supposed suicide Pete investigated on the ride-along is actually a murder, she poses as a religious fanatic in order to gain access to the controlling cult where the dead woman was discovered, hoping to find the truth. But has she instead set herself up to be murdered–and will she uncover the killer before she becomes the next victim?

angies review

I receive this book from the author for an honest review.

I gotta tell ya this book is a bit different yet kinda the same if you are a Jade fan.  Ok how is it different and how it is the same you ask?  Well it’s the same because she writes these characters that you can identify with.  Codie, the main character, at times is similar to other characters she has written and that I loved!!  How it is different?  The vibe of the book is just different.  Yes Codie is feeling two different men and we have seen Jade write his before but they are BOTH so toxic at times you really don’t know who to root for.  I mean Slade is just UGH at times and then he is so damn tooth ache genuine that you wanna fall in to his arms.  Then we have 1st love Pete who is perfect and then not to perfect and then perfect and then a jackass!!  I mean damn the poor girl.

Codie is dealing with a lot in this novel.  She is really looking at her life after something happens that shakes her to the core of her foundation.  There isn’t a lot of action that we are turning the pages as fast as we can but it is a good slow set up.  We are getting the background we need for the next story, developing the inter characters connections but trust when I say the next one is going to be a doozie!!

When the main story line for book 2 is set in place, we can SEE what is going to happen.  I was loving where Codie was emotionally and with her life.  I am super excited to read more from this story.  I feel like book 1 is a tease for the rest of this series.  I can’t wait to see what happens with the plot PLUS find out which guy is going to be the one for Codie.  But can I say…I freaking loved her roomie/Bestie Matthew.  That man deserves a book….pure comedy he brings to the book along with a giant heart for our girl Codie.

Do happily ever after’s always have to be so traditional?

Rylee Stafford has asked herself this question since she was eighteen years old. Now, at twenty-eight she still doesn’t have an answer. One thing she knows for sure is even if she can have the unconventional relationship she’s always dreamed of, it would never fly with her family. Her sexual proclivities would never be accepted by them or their social circle.

The truth is Rylee is tired of hiding her feelings. Tired of wanting what she can’t have and so tired of feeling abnormal because she wants a different kind of love.

She’s kept her secret well hidden, especially from Nick, her on again off again love affair. Her secret isn’t their only stumbling block, though—Rylee’s also met someone new. His name is Pete and he sets her heart and soul on fire; he’s sexy, smart, possessive, and he wants her. No matter how much she cares for them she can’t bring herself to tell them the truth. The only way to Rylee’s heart is to have a relationship with both men.

It’s only when Rylee takes her annual vacation does she finally realize her happiness is worth more than what anyone thinks of her. Now the only question is: will Rylee’s alternate lifestyle alienate everyone she loves? Or will she be accepted for the person she’s always been deep down inside?

EXCERPTS

Excerpt #1

“Nick, I think you should go.”

I feel like she punched me in the gut, but I’m going to take Zack’s lead on this one. He never let Cassidy pull too far away, and I’m not going to let Rylee shut me out now.

Silently, I get dressed. She’s still standing by the bathroom with her arms across her chest. She doesn’t want to get close to me because she doesn’t want to admit her feelings for me.

“Rylee,” I say, walking toward her at a slow pace. She eyes me up and down and presses herself as close to the wall as possible. She’s not getting away from me.

I pull her into my arms and crush my lips to hers. My hand weaves into her sexy, just-fucked hair, and I pull her tightly to my lips. I kiss her with all the passion I’ve had building inside of me for years and she feels it. I know she does because she hasn’t stopped whimpering the entire time her tongue has been dueling with mine. When I finally slow the kiss, she whimpers even more, and when I slowly pull away, her fingers go immediately to her lips as if she’s trying to savor the magic we just shared.

“I’ll go for now, Ry, but not for long. I’m going to check in on you every day, but I’ll give you space and stay away. Don’t take too long because I want you now more than ever, Rylee. I always have and I always will.”

I place a soft kiss to her forehead and leave.

Excerpt #2

My phone rings, and when I see Rylee’s face flash on the screen I pause. It’s almost time to confess my sins and hope she confesses hers, too.

“Are you counting down the minutes?” Her answering laugh has me smiling like a fool.

“I’m excited to see you, yes. I know we’re supposed to meet at five, but Nick needs me to stop by his house for about an hour. Do you mind meeting at six instead?”

I pause intentionally, and Ben shakes his head at me and stifles a laugh. “Don’t let him touch you.”

“I’m sorry, what?” She’s flustered and that’s exactly how I want her.

“You heard me, Rylee. If you’re going to make me wait after I flew in to see you, that can’t be helped. But if you let him put his hands on you before I get my chance, I’m not going to be happy.”

“Feeling possessive?” she fires back.

“Of what’s mine, at least temporarily, hell yeah.”

“I’m yours from six on, Pete, I promise.”

“You’re mine from five on. Nick is borrowing an hour of my time. Remember that.”

“I thought you two made up?” She blows out a frustrated sigh and I want to laugh.

“We did, but I told you when we met I don’t do love triangles. I’ve made an exception for you because we’ve got something, Ry, but once you come back from vacation you’re supposed to have an answer for me. I want your pussy aching from my cock being all you think about while you’re away. My cock, Rylee, not his. See you at six, darlin’.”

Excerpt #3

I love how open and vulnerable she is today. The more she talks, the longer she stays; she can ask me if the sky is blue for all I care. “Anytime, anywhere, ask away.”

Her hand traces down the side of my face and I pull it to my mouth and kiss it tenderly.

“How many times have you been in love? I mean really in love, with your whole heart.”

“Only twice.”

A small gasp falls from her lips “Really? So just me and the love triangle girl?”

“Yes, what about you, Ry?”

“Just you and Pete. I’m so confused. I love him. Well, I’m pretty sure I do, but not like I love you, but not much different, either. Does that even make sense? I swear I’m going crazy.”

“You’re not crazy and believe it or not, it does make sense. You’re falling for him but you’ve loved me longer. It’s natural to love us differently and yet the same.”

“Why aren’t you mad? Isn’t this hard for you?”

“It is… but right now I’m being your friend on the outside. On the inside, I’m feeling a little more like a jealous boyfriend.”

“Is it wrong that the thought of you being a jealous boyfriend really turns me on?”

“Nope, not wrong at all. Too bad you’re not the jealous girlfriend type.” Her eyes narrow into slits and she rolls on top of me.

“Who says I’m not? If I would have walked in here and your fuck buddy from last night would have still been here with her tousled hair and smeared makeup—walking around in her underwear—you would have seen jealous girlfriend come out. I would have taken that bitch down.”

“Bitch? Isn’t that a bit harsh? I mean, you don’t even know her.”

Rylee grinds her pelvis against mine and it breathes life back into my dick. “I don’t want to know who is fucking you, Nick. You may not be mine yet, and I may not have a claim on you… for now at least, but I don’t ever want to see you with someone else.”

“Why?” I ask, pulling her close so her lips are practically touching mine.

“Because it would hurt too much,” she confesses softly, and my lips take hers in a slow, sensual kiss.

“I wouldn’t do that to you, Ry. Your happiness is my intent, never your pain.”

He knows everything.
She has all the damn answers. I’ve always been a free spirit. It’s my nature.
I crave control, but with her it’s far more. He’s a power hungry climber.
Her wealth could buy and sell me. It’s too much pressure being the center of anyone’s focus.
She underestimates my desire for her, my need to please just her. When he’s vulnerable, it’s hard to deny him.
Her crooked smile cripples me. He hides his demons, but I’m no fool.
She thinks not committing to anyone makes her more honest. She’s wrong. A man like him deserves someone who can offer that kind of love.
She promises nothing, yet I feel like a king when she says my name.

I never let anyone possess me like he did. Not before. Not after.
My greatest regret was compromising. I should have never held back.

Still, when we’re apart I’m not myself.
I miss the days when she was just down the hall.

He’s better off without me, and it hurts.
The ugly truth is I need her more than she needs me.

Our relationship was born out of lust and curiosity.
The lies we told ourselves killed it.

We learned it was all a mirage.

REVIEW:

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

In true M. Mabie fashion she has given us two complex characters that kept me turning the pages to find out if they could overcome their differences and make it work.  Both are strong willed and speak their mind but when they come together they are explosive.

Reggie is total alpha male. Knows what he wants and goes after it. He meets Nora and she is a free spirit and also alpha. Reggie is a one woman man and Nora is into the poly lifestyle. They were as opposite as you could get.  Reggie was relentless Nora was under his skin and he had to try something to get her to see it could work.  Nora would throw out so many mixed signals and Reggie would analyze them and use problem solving techniques to overcome her obstacles. Reggie and Nora do things they both thought they could never do but with each other they tried because they want to make the other happy. In the end is it enough?

This was emotional and I felt every bit of it. Knot is the perfect title for this book because I felt the knot in my stomach many times while reading this.  I would find myself counting along with Reggie during parts of this and felt that same anxiety he felt at times. My heart ached for Reggie and Nora watching them go through what they did.  I loved the patience Reggie had with Nora giving her space when she needed it and turning up the Alpha other times.  Like Nora I was drawn to both Reggie Jekyll and Hyde sides. If you like angst, sexy, and a take your breath away love story you need to one click this now.

Review

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGally in exchange for an honest review.

Kim Jones is amazing at what she does and I enjoy her writing style. Sinner’s Revenge is the sequel to Simmer’s Creed and picks up where it leaves off. Although I didn’t cry as much while reading this book as I did reading Sinner’s Creed there was more Oh Crap moments in this one.

Shady is out for Revenge. He was going after Death Mob to even a score. Death with no mercy was all that was on his mind. He was on a mission until he ran into Diem.

Diem is a sexy, strong willed, alpha female that gives it right back to Shady at every turn; she is argumentative and can be infuriating at times. She somehow got under Shady’s skin like no other. They fought like there was no tomorrow but the banter and bickering between these two was great.

I loved when Diem would play her “games” with Shady. She would end up on top most of the time. Seeing Rookie and Shady interact and become close was great especially after all that shady lost. One of my favorite parts was the prologue and yes I had tears in my eyes.

Kim Jones had me flipping the pages wanting to know what was going to happen the suspense was heart pounding, the sex scenes had me stopping for a breather, and the twist and turns to this book were jaw dropping.  Let me tell you there was more than just one Holy Crap I never saw that coming moments and a few Oh NO this cannot be happening now moments too. I cannot wait to read more of Kim’s books if they are anything like there two books she takes you on ride and not the country road sun at your back look at the beautiful scenery ride NO she takes you on the dark road no one goes on and fills it with danger, death, suspense and tosses in some sexy, naughty and fun moments. I cannot wait for the next ride.

about the author

Kim Jones is a writer with big dreams. Inspired by her personal experience inside the MC life, she’s chosen to write biker romance stories that are authentic—expressing the true meaning of brotherhood and the lifestyle of motorcycle clubs.

In 2013, Kim began her self-publishing journey. Saving Dallas, her first MC series, is based on the life of an influential president who juggles the pressures of the Devil’s Renegades Motorcycle Club, and the search for true love.

Taking the club life and her career a step further, Berkley will be releasing Sinner’s Creed, her second MC series, in March of 2016—an inside look into the life of a 1%er and his sacrifice for what he believes in.

Kim plans to continue to self-publish off her Saving Dallas series, and has signed a two book deal with Penguin-Random House for Sinner’s Creed. She resides in south Mississippi with her husband, Reggie, two dogs, a cat and a donkey.

Lucia

It all started with a contract signed by him, then by me, while our families watched. While my father sat silent, a man defeated, giving his daughter to the Benedetti monsters.

I obeyed. I played my part. I signed my name and gave away my life. I became their living, breathing trophy, a constant symbol of their power over us.

That was five years ago.

Then came the time for him to claim me. For Salvatore Benedetti to own me.

I had vowed vengeance. I had learned hate. And yet, nothing could have prepared me for the man who now ruled my life.

I expected a monster, one I would destroy. But nothing is ever black or white. No one is either good or evil. For all his darkness, I saw his light. For all his evil, I saw his good. As much as he made me hate him, a passion hotter than the fires of hell burned inside me.

I was his, and he was mine.

My very own monster.

Salvatore

I owned the DeMarco Mafia Princess. She belonged to me now. We had won, and they had lost. And what better way to teach a lesson than to take from them that which is most precious? Most beloved?

I was the boy who would be king. Next in line to rule the Benedetti Family. Lucia DeMarco was the spoils of war. Mine to do with as I pleased.

It was my duty to break her. To make her life a living hell. My soul was dark, I was hell bound. And there was no way out, not for either of us. Because the Benedetti family never lost, and in our wake, we left destruction. It’s how it had always been. How I believed it would always be.

Until Lucia.

Author’s Note: Salvatore and Lucia’s story is a steamy standalone romance with a happily-ever-after. No cliffhanger and no cheating. It is intended for mature readers.

Stating his Case by Jade C Jamison

I purchased this book but shhh don’t tell Jade or she will be mad at me for not asking for a review copy.

I was looking through Jade’s list of books for something different to read when I saw this book.  It sounded good so I figured why not.

This book is about Samantha who meets and starts representing a client named Ryan.  She feels a chemistry but thinks it is in her head until she sees him again.  When she asks him out to celebrate a mini-victory, the two combust.

After a night of fun Samantha begins to realize she made a huge mistake because she broke ethics rules and can be disbarred.  The two have words and stop seeing each other.  When Samantha is thinking no one will discover her mistake of judgement, everything comes crashing down.

The story is pretty straight and narrow.  You can kinda of see what is going to happen until the last chapters of the book when we get a little twist thrown in.  I was like WHOOO DIDN’T SEE THAT.

I liked the story and it has an easy flow about it.  If you are  fan of her rockers but want to try something different, give it a try.

Knight (The Unfinished Heroes Series Book 1) by [Ashley, Kristen]

Anya Gage has learned that to get anything good in life, you have to work for it. She has no expectations, no dreams.

Then she finds herself at a party where she doesn’t want to be and she meets Knight.

Knight Sebring knows who he is, what he wants and what he likes. And he gets it. But he never expected something as sweet as Anya Gage to wander into his bedroom during a party he did not expect to be having to borrow his phone.

But when Anya comes to his nightclub and finds herself in a situation, he knows someone has to look after her, he can’t fight it anymore and he decides that man will be him.

Knight teaches Anya that, just as with the bad, in life you should also expect the good. And he teaches her this by giving it to her.

But Knight has a dark past and just as he desires Anya for exactly who she is, he fears when she finds out exactly the man he has become and always intends to be, she’ll leave him for good, normal and clean.

My friend told me that I was missing out and she gifted me a copy of the book to read.

HOLY MOTHER OF HOTNESS!!  Uhm where have I been and why has someone kept the rock on my head for so long.  Knight is hot, alpha, naughty and just yum.

Knight is not a hero but an anti-hero.  I mean the guy is not a white picket fence kinda guy.  I mean he roughed up Anya’s landlord for not taking care of the apartment complex.  They weren’t even dating.  They jst met.  Now he isn’t the creep stalkery alpha’s you read about.  Actually he stayed as far away from her as he could get because she is so pure and he is not pure at all.  However, when she comes to his club and is getting harassed, he is no longer hiding but claiming Anya for own.

Anya is the girl who is beautiful but doesn’t think she is beautiful.  She is super low maintance and is the loyal to the end friend.  When her friend Sandrine (GRRR HATED HER FYI) drops her for “the one” she stumbles into Knights world.  She is whiplashed by his actions but she just kinds goes with it.  When the two start to date, she says no and he was like “well too bad because we are dating”.  I actually liked how he pushed himself into her life and made her realize that she is happier with him and he is too.

Man the stuff they go through is crazy.  I loved how no matter what Knight was honest with Anya.  She may not like what he has to say but he put it out there and never hid anything from her.  Anya was a calming balm to Knight.  She was able to tame him a bit while letting is stay HIM!!

I loved the story and ant wait to read more from the series.

about the author

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Melinda's Review

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Ren is amazing and I’m so glad that Sarah Noffke let his story be told. Let’s face it he is snarky tell it like he sees it and holds nothing back no matter who you are he does not care. You either love him, hate him, or love to hate him but again he does not care. Then you add Adelaide his daughter to the mix and she is exactly like him only difference is she wants Ren to love her and care about her but the Monster in them both knows that is just not possible.

When God’s Little Monster ends we find out Adelaide is prego and now Ren is trying to stay as far away from her and the monster she created by tossing himself into his work. He has to find out what Vivian’s true game plan is before she implements her plan. She is out maneuvering them at every turn and there is a mole he has to flush out of the institute.

Back at home Adelaide was not dealing well with her new baby. He would cry all the time. Ironicly the only one that could clam him was Ren. I wanted to shake Ren for the way he was treating Adelaide while she was going through her pregnancy and when she was giving birth, I know he was just being Ren but WOW just WOW. Then with this the issues Adelaide was brining on herself, the nanny’s departing like leaves on trees in the fall, and the decisions Ren was making to solve this case it’s no wonder Dahlia walked away.

I loved this series Ren was the best he was the same no holds bar snarky man throughout the series. If he didn’t like someone which was mostly everyone he treated them the same throughout the entire series. Ren and Dahlia relationship was priceless only he and Dahlia could survive a relationship like this. The way he never called anyone by their real name only by names he chooses to call them by was great. The fact that Adelaide did the same thing was a hoot. The way Ren went about solving this case I wanted to throat punch him I mean really how could he do that to Dahlia. The way he treated Lucien I mean I shouldn’t be shocked it is Ren after all but come on Ren this is your Grandson, a baby, how bad can it be. The thing I loved the most about this series is how Sarah Noffke is able to intertwine her other series with this one there is Dr. David Reardon in here who I love seeing again by the way. Sarah had me guessing to the very end I thought I knew but she did a great job keeping in the dark tell the end. Each series I read I say this is my favorite then she writes another series and out does herself this is no different. I fell in love with Ren the first time I Read him and I still love him. I only hope I get to see him again sometime in another one of Sarah’s series.

When all that you love is left behind, you are lost…

Owen is devastated. He was willing to give up everything for Daisy, but she refused. He wants to believe there is a way to bring her back, even if it means getting help from the unlikeliest of sources.

Daisy is numb. She has lost any ability to feel human emotion. Her dreams are her only escape from her dull existence, and even those are fading.

Owen and Daisy are both lost, and only their love for each other will bring them back together.

angies review

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

OMG When the last book ended I was devastated.  I have been dying to get back to Daisy and Owen but life has been getting in the way soooo today when I had the chance….I DEVOURED IT.

The book picks up right after Daisy has given up her humanity to save Owen’s wings…sniff sniff…..Owen is lost and a MESS.  I mean his heart is broken.  We all know Owen wears his heart on his sleeve anyway but to not have his heart……sad broken Owen.

Daisy is trying to adjust to having no emotion.  She is trying and yet she can’t stop thinking about Owen.  She even gets annoyed at other Allures annnnd people that shouldn’t be happening…..remember no emotions are allowed.

The allures realize there is a bit of a snag in her transformation as Owen, his sister, dad and uncle…what uncle????  Go looking through the old basement of supernatural beings scriptures to find something to save Daisy.  When we find out about why Daisy isn’t fully transformed it was a cool plot twist.  When we see a supernatural going against the Allures for Daisy and Owens happiness I was giddy but the ending…….I was super excited for more of the series to come……

*Prequel novella to Lure (The Allure Chronicles #1)*

Never agree to a road trip to New Orleans with your roommate. At least not when your roommate is dragging you along while she reconnects with an ex-boyfriend. Possible consequences of failing to take my advice:

1) Unknowingly going out with a vampire stripper
2) Getting kidnapped by said vampire’s nest mates
3) Falling head over heels for your winged hero

Believe it or not number 3 is the worst one, especially when no one believes you that he exists.

There’s danger in the beauty…

Two years, six months, and twenty-five days. That’s how long it had been since I’d seen my winged hero— not that I’d been counting. I’d suffered through years of counseling just to convince my friends and family that I wasn’t crazy and knew he didn’t exist.

But he did. And I was done waiting.

Days after college graduation I headed back down to New Orleans to retrace my steps and find Owen again only to find my life was about to get even crazier… thanks to the most beautiful and dangerous of all paranormal creatures, the Allures.
