#Twinsieoftheday – The Gathering Dark (Quest of Fire Book 1) by Brett Armstrong

Jason is an expert at running from his past. But when it catches up, he finds himself hiding in a peculiar inn listening to a tale from centuries past.

The story is Anargen’s, a teen who is pulled from all he loves to follow his oaths of loyalty to the fabled King of the Realms. Together with his mentor, Cinaed, he rides north on a special quest to mediate peace talks between ancient foes—the men of Ecthelowall and the dwarfs of Ordumair. Nothing goes as planned. Many on both sides of the dispute despise Anargen’s Order. Worse, an arcane evil has returned to the North. This “Grey Scourge” seeks to ruin the peace talks and ensure a lost treasure held by the dwarfs is never found by those for whom it is meant.

As Anargen’s story unfolds, Jason begins to wonder whether it is truly just a fable. He soon finds himself drawn into the conflict Anargen faced. A battle which has shaped and can destroy his world.

I received this book for an honest review.

This story is good, it just didn’t have me gripping the edge of my seat. The world building is excellent,
and things were really brought to life for me. There are histories, cultures, myths, and old grudges. If you
are the type that need a good hook at the very beginning, you may have trouble getting into this one at
first.
Jason is trying to get out of a rainstorm when he takes shelter at an inn and gets drawn into a story
about Anargen. Anargen is a young man who has just become a knight with 3 of his friends when they
are forced to leave suddenly for a quest that they know little about. The lack of details leads to a lack of
trust. This lack of trust causes some very unfortunate events. When monsters from children’s stories
become reality, they must find a way to survive. Past and present collide in a way that by the end I was
interested in seeing what happens to Jason as he learns that some stories are built on truth no matter
how fantastical it sounds.
There is lots of violence. These boys are fighting for their lives, and the story reflects that. There is no
adult content, and really very little of a romantic interest. These boys are in too much trouble for that!
The story does have some references to sword fighting positions and specific pieces of armor. Not
enough to distract, but I do need to look a couple of words up.

From an early age, Brett Armstrong had a love for literature and history. At age nine, he combined the two for his first time in a short story set in the last days of the Aztec Empire. After that, writing’s role in his life waxed and waned periodically, always a dream on the horizon, till he reached college. At West Virginia University, he entered the Computer Engineering program and spent two years pursuing that degree before an opportunity to take a creative writing class, for fun, came along. It was so enjoyable, he took another and in that course he discovered two things. The first was the plot for a short story called Destitutio Quod Remissio, which the others students really seemed to love. The second, he realized he absolutely loved writing. For him, it was like the proverbial light bulb coming on. In the years since, describing that epiphany has been difficult for him, but he found the words of 1924 Olympian Eric Liddell are the most eloquent expression for it: “God made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.” God gave Brett a passion for writing, and so feels His pleasure when writing.

After a few years passed, Brett got his Computer Engineering degree, but also completed a minor in each of his real passions: history and creative writing. In 2013, he began graduate school to earn an MA in Creative Writing. During that time he completed the novelization of Destitutio Quod Remissio and entered the 2013-2014 CrossBooks Writing Contest, which won the contest’s grand prize. As of March 2015, Brett completed his MA and is presently employed in the West Virginia Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology as a programmer analyst.

Brett lives in Saint Albans, West Virginia, with his beautiful wife, Shelly. In the summer the pair gardens together, and each day Brett continues writing his next novel.

#Review – Her Shifter Wolf Runaway (The Clan of Hogan Falls) by: Serena Meadows

I’d lived my entire life with a secret that kept trying to burst out of me…
My clan wanted my friends and I dead when we were babies.

I’d begun questioning my very existence… but Marshall appeared out of nowhere and changed my reality.

He was mysterious, a man with secrets of his own.
Marshall was running away from something… or someone.
And I wanted to chase him away from our small town.
His new restaurant could become my competition and put me out of business.

But I also couldn’t deny how alive I felt around him.
Marshall awakened the wolf shifter in me.
His touch reminded me of my life purpose, and he truly was my fated mate.

So when I shifted to save his life, the shock in his eyes broke my heart.
Could Marshall accept me for who I was… or was he another piece of my life that I would have to forget and keep a secret forever?

Each book in this sexy-as-sin series can each be read as standalones, and has no cliffhangers, but are best read in order.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

This is the second book in a box set I picked up simply because I was in the mood for a shifter book.

This was another quick read and was just as enjoyable as the first book. This book was about Yvette, who does all the cooking for the Inn.

Marshall is running from his father and comes to Hogan Falls. Marshall is planning on staying at the B&B until he can his restaurant up and running. When Yvette asks him to help serve waffles to the ladies at a luncheon at the B&B he is all for it. Yvette thinks she may have made a mistake by having him help once she realizes he is planning on opening a new restaurant in the town. She really starts to rethink him being around when the magic starts surfacing and she realizes he is her mate.

Marshall and Yvette are great for each other. I enjoyed seeing them work together in the kitchen and even try to pull away from each other only to be drawn back together. I have to say I enjoyed this story line and seeing how Marshall’s life leads him to Yvette and finding out a connection the two had and didn’t even know it.  Yvette finding a family member had tears in my eyes and warmed my heart. Both Marshall and Yvette had such hard lives and now they have each other and both are better off now. I am so enjoying this series and cannot wait to see what is in store for the other ladies of the B&B.

Serena Meadows has always been obsessed with writing short stories since she was in junior high school. She writes paranormal romance stories of all types but writing about sexy steamy alpha shifters is her passion. She lives in Denver with her two dogs. On her downtime (which is rare), she enjoys hiking and camping in the mountains or riding her bike with her own alpha male to keep her safe and warm. Typically she enjoys an evening curled up buried in a good book or watching Netflix. She also enjoys time with good friends.

Serena is excited to share her work with all of you and looking forward to interacting with her fans!

#Review – Give Me a Reason (Redemption Hills Book 1) by: A.L. Jackson – Narrators: Connor Crais and Desiree Ketchum

From NYT and USA Today bestselling author A.L. Jackson comes a single-dad, enemies-to-lovers stand-alone romance about a jaded club owner and his son’s teacher…

Eden Murphy came into my club looking to make some extra cash.
A girl like her didn’t belong in a place like this.
She’d get ripped to shreds.
Most likely by me.
There’s nothing but sweetness dripping from her sexy little body, and I’m the monster who’s salivating to get a taste.

Trent Lawson is the last man I should want.
Dark.
Dangerous.
So wickedly gorgeous he makes my knees weak.
He’s also an arrogant jerk who happens to be my new boss.

When I discover his adorable son is also in my kindergarten class, I know I have to keep my distance.

But neither of us can ignore the attraction that flames.
One glance, and our hearts race.
One touch, and we’re aching for what we can’t have.
One night, and we’re falling fast.

Dragging her into my sordid world is wrong.
It doesn’t matter.
Eden Murphy is mine.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I purchased this audio book after seeing an ad for it that drew me in.

The narrators were wonderful they kept me right there with the story they were telling. I did not want to push pause on this one at any time. Connor Crais and Desiree Ketchum made a great team telling this story.

Eden Murphy a school teacher and preachers daughter needed extra cash to help save her dad’s school found herself at a cross road and became a server at a bar. She came face to face with the man she could not resist knowing he was not the wholesome man her dad would want her to find but all the same she was drawn to him like no other.

Trent trying to keep his family safe and away from their past only to find the light to his dark. Knowing he needed to stay away from his new employee and his son’s teacher he couldn’t turn away from her. Can he protect Eden and his family from his past or will his past destroy them all.

There were so many characters I loved in this story.  I absolutely love Trent’s little boy Gage. To be honest I think I need to know more about Trent’s brothers too. I thought Trent was going to cold and ruthless but he proved me so wrong he is so sweet, kind and loving to his family and Eden. Eden and Trent endured so much grief and heartache over their lives. To see their story and their pasts unfold as the story was told was heartbreaking. I have to say the plot twist OMG. When things started adding up and clicking in place holly crap never saw it coming. I enjoyed every second of this book.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

Oh. My. Goodness! *fans self* This book was so HOT! Keyes- closeted biker who is hated by his father. He is a member of an MC and also runs a tire shop. For the most part he keeps to himself. Alec- black sheep of his family. Outspoken lawyer who isn’t afraid to say what he wants. Works for the assistant DAs office who is trying to take down Keyes’ MC. They cross paths one night on a dark highway in the middle of no where. It’s an encounter neither man will be able to forget. These 2 are such an unlikely pair- there is no way they would every work out, right? The chemistry between them was undeniable and no matter how much they tried, the couldn’t pretend what was happening between them wasn’t real. Any sort of a relationship may have been doomed from the start but they were just so perfect for each other. I CAN NOT WAIT for the conclusion of Alec and Keyes story. I really hope it ends in a happily ever after.

#Review #MMRomance Have Mercy on Me (Blue Collar Daddies #2) by: Aria Grace

Jason loves walking dogs, but he has plans to do something bigger with his life. Not big like change the world kind of big. But big enough to change at least a few lives. So when he sees an empty garden center with a fenced yard, he gets an idea. Maybe he and Jesse could set up their doggy daycare business there.

Tony owns a small clinic downtown that caters to professionals in need of a flu shot or the uninsured who have no other options. Not a lot of in-between cases. So when Harris calls in a favor for a cute boy with a cut that he’d been ignoring for too long, he’s excited for the change. This kid has a smart mouth and a sassy attitude, but Tony can tell that he just needs a Daddy to give him some boundaries without breaking his spirit.

The attraction is instant, but the willingness to accept what is right in front of them takes a bit longer.

This Daddy/boy romance is sweet and sexy with a guaranteed happy ever after.

#WOTR25 #AuthorSpotlight #AttendingAuthor #EventSponsor – Melissa Haag/MJ Haag/Sage Adler/Melissa Nicole

Melissa Haag

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Melissa Haag – My books are way more interesting than I am. I’m a middle-aged (ouch!) mid-western married mom of three who loves laughing and food. I started writing seriously in 2011 and published my first book in 2013. Before that, I just dabbled when I ran out of book money.
I’ve always loved romance and haven’t deviated.
I found one of my mom’s “savage” bodice rippers (you know the kind) back when I was 13. She took it away from me when she found out I was reading it, but don’t worry, I snuck it again and finished. After that, I was hooked.
Much later in life, I discovered a manuscript that my mom wrote and submitted to an agent in the 80s. Recently, I learned her mother also wrote and attempted to publish. So, I have a generational imagination, and I’m grateful for it.

How did you hear about this event?

My memory is both a blessing and a curse. I can barely remember what I did last week, never mind how I found out about WOTR three years ago. But thanks to my memory, I’m the BEST secret keeper, and a person can retell stories to me at least twice before they stick. I also don’t hold grudges. HAHA

How many years have you attended?

This will be my third year.

What genres do you write?

Anything romance! So far, Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy Romance, Fantasy Romance, and SciFi Romance. All under different names, of course.

What is a book of yours you wish more people read?

Dealing with Demons. Readers always say they want stand-alone books, but I’ve found my series are more popular than the one and only stand-alone that I wrote.

What is one fun fact about you?

One? I have so many! I suffer from some gnarly migraines. They can be vomit-inducing, and I’ve been known to ask my husband to cut my head off in a fit of tears. In recent years, I’ve learned a few tricks that help me avoid/minimize them, so decapitation requests have fallen away.

The second fun thing is that I used to work in IT, and I loved SQL scripting.

#Review #MMRomance #PartOfASeries Wait in the Truck by: Aria Grace

Harris didn’t want to spend fourteen hours on the road during a storm, but when he hears about a dog in need of a home a few states away, he makes the trek. Not long after his journey home, he passes a bus stop with a person who doesn’t even look alive.

When Jesse snuck out of the trailer in the dead of night, he didn’t have a plan. He just needed to get away. And after an hour of walking, he realizes how stupid he was to leave on foot. Just because he wasn’t going to die at the hands of his ex tonight doesn’t mean he won’t freeze to death on his way out. Curled up in the corner of a bus stop, he closes his eyes and waits for peace to finally find him.

But when a strong man picks him up and puts him inside a warm pickup truck, he has to wonder if maybe an angel found him after all. And good ol’ vigilante justice is the only thing that makes Jesse feel safe. Well, that and the man he aches to call Daddy.

This Daddy/boy romance is sweet and sexy with some dark moments and a happy ever after.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

Harris is on a little road trip to save a dog when fate intervenes. Jesse is running from an abusive boyfriend. He ends up in a bus enclosure, freezing and barely clinging to life. Harris finds Jesse just in time and he wants nothing more than to protect this stranger. He will do anything to keep him safe.
This was a cute short story about a Daddy finding his boy. Harris and Jesse were meant for one another. I enjoyed getting to know the 2 of them as I read their story. This was book 1 of 9 in the series. Each book is about a different couple.

I received this book for an honest review.

This short story is perfect for the holidays for those who like books with vampires. I was hoping that this
was part of a series so I could find out more but sadly it appears to be an individual novella and that’s
why I gave it four stars. It is a really sweet story about a vampire finding love when he has very little time
left to live. The way he shows his love for the woman that he has spent years looking for is so sweet!
I just couldn’t give it five stars though as I feel like the story is clipped a little too short on details. The
starkness of the story is something I would expect in a novella that is part of a large series that has
reached the point where everyone should know how the world works. I’m hoping that the author
releases more books in this world as the hints that we are given in this book are intriguing.

If you love fangs, fur, canines, growling, banter, and enough heat to melt wax, then you might find your next book boyfriend here! Kristal Dawn Harris is a multiple award-winning, Rone nominated, American romance author. She loves romance of any kind, but paranormal is her favorite. Kristal writes paranormal, fantasy, contemporary, and erotic romance in different lengths.

Kristal currently calls Kentucky home with her husband of 33 years. She has two children off living their best lives. Kristal earned a degree in Accounting Technology from Miami University, but found her passion in steamy romance instead of numbers.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

I usually go into books blind but I’ve had a real struggle as of late finding a book to grab my attention. This seems to happen to me a few times a year, as such, I was gathering recs from an MM book group when I happened across this one. I skimmed the blurb and dove in.
There was something about this book. It had my rapt attention from the first page.
The title should have been enough of a warning that my heart may end up breaking but the author managed to fix that before the last page. Mental illness is nothing to be taken lightly and I feel like the author did a wonderful job of handling the subject with finesse. Please read the author note as the subjects covered in this book may be triggering to some.
