#Review #NewToMeAuthor #Standalone #MMRomance In the Absence of Light of Light by Adrienne Wilder

For years Grant Kessler has smuggled goods from one end of the world to the next. When business turns in a direction Grant isn’t willing to follow he decides to retire and by all appearances he settles down in a nowhere town called Durstrand. But his real plan is to wait a few years and let the FBI lose interest, then move on to the distant coastal life he’s always dreamed of.

Severely autistic, Morgan cannot look people in the eye, tell left from right, and has uncontrolled tics. Yet he’s beaten every obstacle life has thrown his way. And when Grant Kessler moves into town Morgan isn’t a bit shy in letting the man know how much he wants him.

While the attraction is mutual, Grant pushes Morgan away. Like the rest of the world he can’t see past Morgan’s odd behaviors

Then Morgan shows Grant how light lets you see but it also leaves you blind. And once Grant opens his eyes, he loses his heart to the beautiful enigma of a man who changes the course of his life.

In the Absence of Light came highly recommended from a friend. I read the synopsis, was very intrigued, so I borrowed it from Kindle Unlimited.

Grant moved to the little town of Durstrand, in the middle of nowhere, to try and hide out for a while. To kill a few years before moving on to the beach life he has always dreamed of. It seems the little town of Durstrand had more to offer than just a place to lay low for a while.

Morgan is severely autistic. He has many in town who love him and would do anything to protect him. It didn’t take long at all for Grant to notice there was something special about Morgan, something he couldn’t ignore no matter how hard he tried.

I just want to say; this book was not just a book, it was a work of art. It was beautiful, heartbreaking, and spellbinding. I was addicted to the words, the characters, the unique storyline. Everything! Every once in a while, you read something so profound- you want to tell everyone who will listen to READ THIS BOOK! At the same time you also want to complain to anyone who will listen about the 5 star rating system. Because for some books, that is not a proper rating system. In the Absence of Light is one of those books. I wanted to give it ALL THE STARS!!!

About Adrienne Wilder

I am a writer of contemporary and speculative fiction and artist of all things monsters. I live to create new worlds and the people in them. Several of my books have been best sellers both nationally and internationally. I have also been a finalist in the LAMDA awards, the “Oscars” of gay literary works.

I do my best to write original stories with powerful characters and emotion as well as a fast paced plot. My goal isn’t just to deliver a good story but to take the reader into the story and let them experience the characters as if they are right there with them.

While almost all my books have a romantic element, I will be the first to admit, they are not traditional romance. In fact, I’d like to think there is nothing traditional about them. And the stories I paint are done so way outside the lines of traditional genres.

One of my favorite things to do as a writer is push the boundaries of what makes a story and to deliver the unexpected and maybe even change the perspective of the reader.

My characters are more often than not, beautifully flawed, not alway the good guy, and make mistakes. Their stories will take dark turns which, in the end, make the light at the end of the tunnel all the more brighter.

If you’re looking for something different, exciting, and unique, my books are for you.

#WOTR20 #5YearFamily #Review #RH #NewRelease – Dash:An Ariel Kimber Novella by Mary Martel

Dash: An Ariel Kimber Novella

Dash Flynn always thought he was damaged beyond repair.
Both a mother and a grandmother who had wanted him to be born a female witch, growing up, he was nothing but a disappointment to those around him.
His father had fought for him as best as he could before he disappeared from Dash’s life, leaving him to grow up with the two women they both had hated most in this world.
Years later, Dash thinks his life is finally coming together.
He has his brothers, his coven, and his sweet angel, Ariel. Finally a woman in his life deserving of his love.
But is that enough?
Only time will tell.

Goodreads

I receive this book from the author for an honest review.

Yes, this is all Dash Flynn. Each one of these guys holds a piece of my heart just like they do with Ariel.  I am enjoying these novellas in the guy POV. We get to learn more about each of the guys and see the relationships between Ariel and her guys grow.

Dash and Ariel have both been through so much in their lives.  They both know the betrayal of those who were suppose to love them not hurt them. We get more of Dash story of growing up though his dreams we see the bad but we also see the good he had with his dad. We get to see the friendships between Dash and the other guys.  His thought process of who he will call when he is in different situations and how sometimes things blow up in is face.  I loved to see the things that Ariel does for Dash in this book she even involves some of the guys.

That was great to see our Salt and Pepper twins, Tyson, Julian, Damien and we cannot forget Uncle Quinton. I am so excited to get know these guys more. Each one has their strengths and weakness and I love finding out things in these guys past that make them who they are. I cannot wait for more of this series.

Mary Martel was born in West Michigan and spent the majority of her life there. She currently resides in North Dakota with her husband, and her two beautiful daughters. She’s an avid reader, and when not writing she can be found with her nose stuck in a book.

Just as Silver begins to wonder if his casual relationship with Gold might turn into more, the two men are thrown into a position that has the lovers quickly turning into enemies.
With no way to escape each other, Silver and Gold begrudgingly agree to make the best of an impossible situation.
Will Gold’s search for perfection drive them apart or can Silver show Gold that imperfection can be beautiful?
Silver & Gold is a steamy, slow burn M/M enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity romance between two slightly self-absorbed artists.
This is the second book in the Silver in the City series.

Review by Tenise

I was fortunate enough to get a copy of this book from the author before it was released. This is my honest review.
4 stars!

Silver & Gold is book #2 in the Silver in the City Series. Each book is about a different couple, but I highly recommend reading them in order to have a better understanding of things. Plus, each of these couples have their own things that make them AMAZING. You don’t wanna miss a thing.

What would you do if you started feeling MORE for a casual fling? If you are thinking maybe you should take things to the next level, then an unfortunate mistake, turns you into enemies?

That is exactly what happened to Benji & Rhys and now the only place they want to take things is far, far away from each other. That is kind of hard for them to do since they really have nowhere to hide.

I love this series so much! All of the men are amazing and each of them have a special place in my heart. I’m both excited and sad to read book 3. I don’t want this series to end.

A.d. Ellis is my go to when I need an MM fix. Her books always grab me from the first paragraph and don’t let go until the last word. Silver and Gold had the same effect on me. I can’t wait to read book 3 in this series.

About A.D. Ellis

A.D. Ellis is an Indiana girl, born and raised. She spends much of her time in central Indiana as an instructional coach/teacher in the inner city of Indianapolis, being a mom to two amazing school-aged children, and wondering how she and her husband of nearly two decades haven’t driven each other insane yet. A lot of her time is also devoted to phone call avoidance and her hatred of cooking.
She loves chocolate, wine, pizza, and naps along with reading and writing romance. These loves don’t leave much time for housework, much to the chagrin of her husband. Who would pick cleaning the house over a nap or a good book? She uses any extra time to increase her fluency in sarcasm.
A.D. uses she/her or they/them pronouns.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I have no schedule. I’m a writing doosh-canoe at the moment.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

As an author, the very first time you hold a paperback is pretty awesome. But as just me, the day I met Becca Stevens the founder of Thistle Farms. And what made that special was I was with my WOTR Team.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I feel like my Kindle is my most prized possession because I need to get a new one but I’m holding on to this one like it’s some kind of ancient treasure. My most prized possession in a hand held book though, hmmm…all of the ones I’ve kept to read again in the seven thousand bookcases I have.

Review by Tenise

3.5 rounded up to 4

I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited.

Zara was groomed her entire life to be a submissive. Her life was never really her own and her future had already been decided. Zara has a mind of her own, Hope’s and dreams. She has resigned to know none of these things will ever be a possibility for her. Her life and future have already been decided for her by her father and the other members of The Kings Council.

Ceremony day has arrived and Zara reluctantly gets ready- she has been dreading this day. Then at the last moment, Zara is offered a choice- continue on with a life that has been decided for her or follow her own path. What will Zara choose?

The plotline for Before Him Comes Me was very original. I can’t say I have ever come across a BDSM themed book or any book for that matter that has been quite like it.

I really felt for Zara, she was never allowed to think for herself. To be herself. It was interesting to follow her on her journey, to see if she thought the decision she made was the right one. Because, no matter what path she chose, she would have to live with that choice for the rest of her life. (less)

Alexandria Sure is from Michigan and adores her supportive family, her two rescue pups, and her mighty Spartans. Her coffee obsession leads her to writing in local coffee shops where characters come alive between salted caramel lattes and large cups of “cold brew extra cream two Splenda,” which are usually on the counter when she walks in because the baristas know her car. (Thanks, Biggby!)

When she is not writing, she spends a great deal of her time perfecting her craft. She is an active member of Capital City Writers Association and attends several writing conferences each year.

Sure’s first novel, Before Him Comes Me, is an unconventional romance of self-discovery, described by readers as “the first BDSM book with no sex.”

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Krystle Able

Krystle Able

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I am a multi-genre author who writes mostly romance, paranormal, and thrillers, although I do have women’s fiction releasing in 2020, as well as three YA titles which will publish under K.I. Able. I am from central Illinois and lived here my entire life. When I’m not writing, I enjoy traveling, cooking, and hanging out with my kids and husband.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I like to write in the quiet. A corner of my bedroom is set up as an office and that’s where I like to write most of the time, although I do like to go out to Panera once in a while. I don’t snack while writing very often because the keyboard gets dirty :/ but I do always need either a coffee or iced tea to drink.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love signings because I get to be surrounded by sometimes a few hundred people that all love the exact same things I do. Everyone in the room has something in common.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Tarryn Fisher, Caroline Kepnes, and Colleen Hoover

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I am a freelance web content writer in addition to being a fiction author so I feel like I am writing from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed most days.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Signing at WOTR last year is up there 🙂

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Sutton Bishop

Sutton Bishop

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Sutton Bishop (Please cut the following info as you want. I’m sure I’ve provided far too much. 🙂 )

I’m a Midwest mom of four—two of each, ranging from 18 to 26-years-old, and married to the love of my life. I have degrees in anthropology, forensics, and history. Traveling is my passion, most notably to places where I can explore the past.

Afraid to Fall, Ancient Passages Book 1, is my debut romance and is set in Guatemala. I am most comfortable writing from what I know. I’ve visited almost all of the countries in Central American, spending the more extensive time in Nicaragua, Mexico, and Guatemala. In Nica, I work with young girls who have been sexually assaulted and removed from their homes. I’m astounded by their warmth, spirit, and grace. I have an even deeper affinity for Guatemala; one of my sons is Mayan.

When traveling, I immerse myself, absorbing history, culture, and peoples’ stories. I take tons of photos, with permission, and journal. The majority of my storyboard photos for Afraid to Fall are mine, and they triggered memories and helped create story threads. This is also true for Afraid to Hope, Ancient Passages Book 2, releasing early 2020. Afraid to Hope is set in Morocco. Readers first met the main character in Afraid to Fall. (Yes, I have have traveled to Morocco for archaeology.) At this time, Book 3 will be set in Europe.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I’m fortunate to office out of our home. I listen to different play lists, depending on what kind of scenes I’m imagining and writing. I primarily work in Scrivener off my Mac and an extra-large monitor, so that I’m able to move between research, notes, and the story. My desk is large and my chair is adjusted to fit only me. I also have a foot rest for my very short legs (I’m 5’2″). I scrap writing when there’s a bunch of stuff going on (like painters this past summer or when outr internet was down for a day shy of eight weeks) or we have company or family staying with us.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love to interact with new-to-me readers, my readers, and the romance tribe, including getting to know other authors.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Amy Tan, Margaret Atwood, Diana Gabaldon, Megan March, Anne Lamott, Jane Austen, Isabel Allende, JK Rowling, Mary Shelley, Dan Brown, Nicolas Sparks, Robert Ludlum, Booth Tarkington, Dr. Seuss, Clive Cussler (I could go on and on.)

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

It’s a combo. I’m consistent when there aren’t any tasks on my family/mom/wife task calendar.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

I have two: 1) Receiving the first proof of Afraid to Fall. I cried. 2) Watching Afraid to Fall being printed by the local printer I use. OMG!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I still have all of my childhood books. I grew up with little and received a book on my birthday and at Christmas every year. My mom dated and wrote in each one. They’ve become even more special after she died.

Cindy Tanner

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Cindy Tanner. As an only child that grew up on a farm in rural Indiana an overactive imagination developed out of necessity. I started making up stories before I could write. I love animals and have a tendency to collect the ones need a home. I love reading as much as I love writing and cannot stay in one genre for either!

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

When I’m writing I need music to set the mood for whatever scene I’m writing *wink* and snacks (Reese’s pieces or peanut butter M&M are my favorite)

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

BOOKS! Getting to buy new books, getting to talk to people that love books as much as I do, and best of all getting to talk to the author that created the awesome stories I love reading!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Diana Gabaldon

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

When I can keep a consistent schedule I feel invincible however I let life (and my son) distract me more than I should. I do dedicate time everyday to write even if it is just a few hundred words on my phone.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

Goofy’s Big Race. It was my Dad’s favorite book to read to me. He quoted it to me growing so many time especially when I would get frustrated when things weren’t happening as fast as I wanted. He passed away about a year and a half before I had my son. I still have the copy that my dad always read to me. Now I read it to my son. It means the world to me to be able to share something with my son that I enjoyed so much with my dad.

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Lisa Caviness. Lisa Caviness is an award-winning author or romantic thrillers and suspense novels. She loves dreaming up story ideas where her characters are pushed to their limits during dangerous and blood-tingling adventures. As a lifelong reader of an eclectic pool of books from mystery/thrillers, science fiction, contemporary romance, and the classics, Lisa has never been without a book on the nightstand and a long to be read list. Although she began crafting stories as a child, she also held a deep interest in science. When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Engaging with readers and talking about books is, of course, my top priority. Whether they are buying my books or not I find it fun and interesting to learn about their perspective on books and what they enjoy reading. I also love meeting other authors. I usually try to make a sweep of the room before the signing starts to introduce myself.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’d love to meet Melinda Leigh, Lisa Gardner, Beverly Jenkins, Vince Flynn, Peter Swanson, and Elizabeth Hayes. I find their stories amazing. I can’t choose just one and there are more than I listed here!

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I’d love to have a set schedule but everyday is bit different but I rarely miss a day where I don’t write something.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

The moment I saw my first book in print. It’s a feeling like no other!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?
