#Review – Spunky (The DNF Series, #1) by Haley Tyler

If your book boyfriend came to life, would you do anything to keep him?

Of course you would.

And I would too.

Ian and I only have 72 hours together before he disappears back into his book, and the only way to keep him with me forever? True love’s j*zz. That’s right. I need all the creamy, spunky goodness he has to offer. And I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make him mine forever, even if that means marrying a fictional man.

Ok this book was awesome! I came across it in a book group I’m in and boy am I ever glad I decided to give it a shot. It’s so cringe and off the wall but I loved it! It was definitely a nice break from the heavy stuff I’ve been reading and writing. AND it’s a nice change and takes you out of life stuff in general.

So we meet Lyric (I love this name by the way), who is desperate to find her true love but she doesn’t think it’ll ever happen.

After speaking with her friend who gives her a way to make her book boyfriend come to life, she does it and it works! But there’s a catch. They don’t have long together. So she has to do whatever she can to make sure they can stay together forever.

The descriptive word choices for…uh…things had me rolling. I couldn’t stop laughing. But at the same time, it was also super hot.

This book is short and filthy, with the most asinine ways you could ever think of to describe things and I absolutely loved every bit of it.

#Review – À La Folie (Cirque Du Désir Book 1) by Nova Kane

THIS IS A EROTIC HORROR CIRCUS ROMANCE
I don’t say DARK lightly for this one. This book will be HEAVY. Be sure to check the TW before reading. You’re mental health matters most.

Indie Conners, stared my demons in the eye and smiled.
She fell for everything I hoped she’d fear, and now she’s making me feel things I don’t want to feel.
Obsession, passion, hope and something new and even more dangerous- love.

Lux Julius is everything I shouldn’t want. Everyone warned me about him.
But where others see a monster they condemn, I see a lost and misunderstood soul.
The more he pushes me away, the harder I’ll fight. I won’t stop until his demons become mine.

Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and prepare to be seduced by the darkness!
Welcome to the Cirque du désir, where lust wears a twisted mask and desire dances with the devil.
This is not your average love story; this is a dark circus romance that will leave you breathless, longing for more, and questioning the very nature of your own depraved heart.

But beware, dear reader, for love in the Cirque du désir comes at a cost. As you indulge in the intoxicating spectacle, you may find your own heart entangled in the web of obsession and intrigue.
The line between pleasure and pain blurs, and the boundaries of morality fade away like a distant memory.
The circus is not just a performance; it’s a seduction of the senses, a carnival of the macabre that will leave you haunted by the echoes of forbidden desires.
Witness the contortion of emotions, the fire of passion, and the knife-edge balance between pure ecstasy and despair.

Buy your ticket now and enter a world where lust is a dangerous game, and the only way out is through the darkness.
The Cirque du désir awaits, and once you’ve tasted the bitter-sweet nectar of its dark embrace, you’ll never see love the same way again.
Step into the darkness, for here, the heart’s darkest desires come alive under the twisted, ominous glow of the big top lights.

Ok first off, like the author says, this book is DARK. So if you have trigger warnings or if you’re unsure if you do, stay clear of this one.

Second, I absolutely loved this one! It’s dark, beyond hot and downright filthy. I would just like to say right away that I’m glad this book isn’t a standalone. I want more of Lux and Indie.

Lux is broken and lost. He runs a circus where nothing is off limits, you don’t get judged and you can have all of your deepest darkest desires taken care of.

Indie and her friends head to this circus for a night of fun but Indie wasn’t expecting the untouchable man, Lux, to be interested in her.

Lux thinks Indie is pure and shouldn’t want him and definitely shouldn’t be in a place like Cirque du désir. But even Indie knows that there’s something about the circus, especially him, that pulls her in. She wants to explore that dark side of Lux more but he refuses.

When he finally gives in, things are explosive between them.

After Indie has to deal with a situation at home, the two meet up again but I have a feeling that all isn’t as cozy as they think it is.

I think more blood will be shed as the series goes on.

I guess we’re about to find out! On to book 2!

#Review – Scream For Us: A Dark Halloween Novella (Order Of The Unseen #0.5)

*Top 30 Amazon best seller*
*Best of Booktok*

Good girl Quinn didn’t expect her night to turn to mayhem once she stepped into a legendary Halloween party. After needing a quick rescue from a stranger, she finds herself locked in a captivating game of infatuation with three masked men. Her one demand? The game ends at dawn.

As desire collides with danger, how much can Quinn take before the sun comes up? Will her condition of only one night be enough? Or will her masked men leave their mark?

DISCLAIMER:
This novella contains little to no plot.
For the longer version with plot, please proceed to Bloodshed.

Reading this novella is not required in order to read the rest of the series.

Scream For Us contains mature and graphic content that is not suitable for all audiences. This is a Dark Romance/Thriler/Horror, Why Choose Novella. Please check trigger warnings at the beginning of the book before proceeding.

Oh boy this book was fun. I’ve been on a Halloween dark romance kick and I’m so glad I came across this one. What’s better than one masked man? Three!

Quinn is a good girl and ends up at a Halloween party. She meets three men all wearing masks of serial killers from famous horror movies. Ghostface, Jason and Michael. She meets Ghost first and he protects her from the very start.

She vows to only have one night with him, which ends up being the three of them. Why choose right?

I’m sure she feels like she’s gotten in a little over her head, especially when the guys find out that she was bullied and hurt by people a few years before. Bloodshed happens but that doesn’t stop Ghost and Quinn from…um…enjoying themselves.

If you’re looking for a novella about three hot masked men, a heroine who brings them to their knees and basically no plot but all the smut, this one is for you. And better yet, it’s centred around Halloween! Best holiday ever!

I will definitely be reading the rest of this series. I’m dying to know what these guys are about, where they come from and why they are the way they are.

#Review – No Place To Hide: A Dark Romance Novella (Havoc’s Playground Book 1) by Harper Ashley & Wren Hawthorne

Blair
All I wanted was one night.
A simple night of fun with my friends at the carnival.
I didn’t know I’d spend it learning things I never knew about myself.
Every twist and turn of our game brings us deeper into our desires.
But what’s a little pain if it’s mixed with unimaginable pleasure?

Jackson
All I wanted was one night.
A simple night of peace doing my job.
I didn’t know I’d spend it pushing the boundaries with a girl I just met.
The stakes get higher the longer the game goes on.
For the first time in my life, will only one night be enough?

No Place To Hide contains mature and graphic content that is not suitable for all audiences. Please check the content warnings at the front of the book before proceeding.

Oh man, now this is the book I’ve been needing to pull me out of whatever this slump thing is that I have going on here.

While this was a novella, it felt like it was longer. The authors did a fantastic job of that. Sure, I want more but that’s only because I’m greedy. *cough cough* Jackson. *cough cough*

So we meet Blair who is at a carnival and is looking for some fun. She needs some changes from her regular good girl life. She no longer wants to be this picture perfect princess.

Well…in comes Jackson to save the day.

Jackson works at the carnival and is this quiet, grumpy, ex-con. When these two meet, the sparks fly instantly.

Things quickly heat up and they end up playing a game of Hide & Seek. Sounds super innocent right?

This is definitely one of the hottest novellas I’ve ever read and I really can’t wait for book 2 to this. I need to know what happens.

This novella, although it’s short, does come with some possible triggers, so please read with caution. Your mental health matters.

Also, I read this novella just before Halloween, so it fit the season perfectly.

#Review #ExtremeHorror – Jane Doe: An Extreme Horror by Ash Ericmore

JANE DOE

Gordon is an everyday seaside psycho, kidnapping and killing for fun, with a quality torture basement to boot. His latest victim is Jane. Sadly for Gordon, Jane turns out to be a handful of energy. Cosmic energy. And everything is about to go wrong, in the bloodiest way possible.

Jane Doe is a novella that some people might find distasteful. Actually, most people might find it distasteful. If you are of a nervous disposition, or have a weak stomach, perhaps you might want to give this one a miss, yes?

Full of blood, gore, brain matter and more, Jane Doe is an extreme horror, painted with the blackest of humour. Consider this a trigger warning for just about everything.

This was a fun quick little read that didn’t take me very long to read. This doesn’t happen often, so I really like when it does. The book starts out with Gordon who is a taxi driver looking for his latest victim. A woman gets in his cab and he convinces her to go home with him for some coffee. Super innocent right? Why, nothing could ever go wrong over some coffee.

Gordon ends up drugging Jane and places her in a room in his basement. He goes to bed and wakes up somewhere else, with no recollection as to how he got there. Things take a different turn for him right away and I was intrigued from the very start.

While reading, I really had no idea who this Jane person was and why Gordon ended up unknowingly doing the things he did. It was hard to predict and that was what I liked about it.

If you want something quick, fun and with some gory details, grab this one now!

#Review #Horror #Novella – Don’t Look In The Trees by Jason Nickey

Don’t Look In The Trees; the main rule in Appalachia. Many question why, but Justin and Billy found out the hard way on their way home from a bonfire party after coming across a fallen tree and mysterious lights coming from the sky. Can they survive the night and the strange beings coming from the forest that surrounds their cabin?

From Jason Nickey, Author of ‘Road Hazards’ and ‘They Come From Within’ comes a new fast paced sci-fi/horror novella.

This was a short fun little read.

Justin and Billy are heading home after a party with their drunk friend Kevin. While they’re driving, they see a bright light from the sky and the rest of their night doesn’t go as planned.

I do wish this story was a little longer but that’s a me problem, not the author’s. When the alien type stuff started happening, it reminded me of many alien movies I have seen over the years. Creepy crawly things coming out of someone’s mouth? Yes please!

If you want a quick read about a couple who are just trying to survive the night while dealing with aliens and the unknown, be sure to check this story out!

#Review #ExtremeHorror – Rural Decay by Jason Nickey

Jack Buckley always admired his father. even after he found out he was a serial killer. As Jack grows older, and he begins helping his father, he begins to develop an unhealthy obsession with him; an obsession that would send both of their lives crumbling into decay.

From Jason Nickey, Author of ‘Wreckage’, comes a new story of extreme horror.

This was a quick fun gory little read and my very first by Jason Nickey. I was in the mood for a short book, so I went to my trusted horror group and came across this one and it did not disappoint.

We meet Jack who caught his father murdering a woman. But that didn’t stop him from loving his dad. In fact, it seemed to only make his love and admiration for the man, more intense.

As the years go on, Jack ends up working with his dad but things take a little turn that throws the father off his course. He doesn’t know how to handle it. After making a wrong decision that costs them both quite a bit, someone looking for revenge makes a little appearance.

If you like quick, gory reads, then I suggest this one. Please remember that this one is an extreme horror. So nothing is off limits.

#Review #Horror – Be My Friend by Mique Watson

On March 14, 2010, 16-year-old Jacob Stewart vanished.

In the weeks following his disappearance, strange interactions he’d had with a mysterious online figure also known by the name Cronos came about.

This document is a collection of interviews, computer files, public news reports, and online speculation, as well as copies of Jacob’s online interactions with Cronos that were obtained via the Freedom of Information Act.

What we hope to accomplish by bringing this case to light is to reignite the desire to find Jacob and Thomas … because they could still be out there.

I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to this book. This is quite different for Mique and I can now officially say that I’ve read everything he’s published. I’m super proud of this by the way.

This book was written in an interview sort of way and I really liked that style. Maybe I just have a vivid imagination but I could picture myself sitting in the interview with the characters. Either at a police station or in their home. It was a unique way of writing the book, so kudo to Mique for doing it this way.

Now first I’ll say that this is not an extreme horror. But man…I’m not sure what’s worse. Extreme horror with all the gory bloody details or this type that’s depressing and just sad. Oh so sad.

Jacob is lonely. Man is he lonely. I wanted to reach into the pages and give him a hug. His dad passed away and his mom ignores him. His older brother is off doing his own thing and living his own life, so Jacob feels like he has no one. Which technically, he doesn’t. Not in the way he needs.

He finally ends up on this online chat and meets Cronos. I got icky vibes from him right away. Jacob did not and that made me sad. He just wanted a friend. He wanted someone he could confide in. Someone who loved him. He was awkward and shy and anti-social. He had a hard time talking to anyone really. I can’t say I blame him for that. Especially when he tries voicing his thoughts and all his mom does is yell at him.

Jacob ends up finding what he needs in Cronos. After chatting for a few weeks, things get weird. Really weird. And outright disturbing. Cronos has Jacob doing things to make him feel better and to help him heal. But these aren’t your ordinary type stuff. No. It’s dark web crap. It’s called The Blue Whale Challenge. – I looked it up and from what I found quickly on Google, it was a TikTok thing back in 2016.

Jacob ends up going missing and the whole book is about trying to find out where he is. You find out. Sort of. Not in the way people wanted though.

I have to say that this is my favourite non-extreme horror book of 2024 so far and I can’t wait to see what else Mique comes up with.

#Review #ExtremeHorror – Them by Mique Watson

Jeanette thought she’d get to enjoy the cozy, rainy evening after the hellacious week she’d just endured.

Snuggled up on her couch with her Labrador, Nico, everything seemed perfect. Rest couldn’t come sooner.

Then it happened.

The program on the television cut to black.

EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM.

Jeanette’s heart stops. The signal is choppy, yet the message is clear: “They look like people.”

And then the power goes out.

Someone knocks on the door. It is soon made clear to Jeanette that the world she once knew has ended. The place she once called home is now anything but. The world beyond the threshold of her door is a passageway to the deepest bowels of hell itself. Will she survive?

This book started out as a slow burn type horror novel and then when the horror stuff finally happened, it was like a slap in the face. I knew going in that this book was extreme but I wasn’t expecting what I read. Did I love it? Yes. Of course. Not sure what that says about me though.

Jeanette intends to have a quiet night at home with her dog and then suddenly, her world changes for the worst.

Like Mique’s other books, the scenes in this one are detailed, gruesome, and not for the faint of heart. If you like creepy, maybe alien type people who do things that are…awful doesn’t even begin to describe what they did, then this one could be for you.

This book was also beyond gory, which I feel like Mique likes challenging himself and making his gory scenes that much more…well…extreme.

This one is a fun little read and it definitely has some disturbing parts to it.

Now onto the next one!
