Albany Walker, mother of 4 and married to my high school sweetheart for the past 22 years. I’m and avid reader turned author with a penchant for cowboy boots and pretty bras.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The follow up books are harder for me.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I tend to write what I want to read, and I really enjoy a lot of sub genres as long as it includes romance.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Write what you love. Surround yourself with people will support you, and tell you the hard truths of you need to hear it.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Writing is my full time job. I write from 9-4 Monday through Friday and still have to make time for social media and admin work. I try not to work on the weekends unless I’m on a deadline or editing.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Honestly it’s usually the characters from the book I’m working on. I love Waylynn from my Tasting Madness series. She sweet, and but still had a backbone.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Friends With the Monster.

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Serenity Rayne. Wife, mother, nurse and for the last three years a writer. I write strong female main characters that don’t need to be saved. I want the next generations of women to know that no matter what we have gone through, we can over come it if we try.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Usually the first. I get general ideas or dreams about a new series. Getting all of the ducks in a row some days is like herding cats with a garden hose.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I usually try to pick a topic. The Aurora Marelup Saga was about dealing with loss and chasing after a goal to completion. The Dark Angel Chronicles is about healing from years of emotional abuse and the angelic version of racism (wing color).

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Not to force the words. Have a group of friends that you can talk to about whats stressing you and deal with it before burn out happens.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

honestly it depends on the day. sometimes several hours sometimes not for a few days.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Honestly, its a toss up between Kol from Once Upon a Raven and Dimitri from the Aurora Marelup Saga. Kol is an antihero and in the end he dies with the woman he loves. Dimitri, his patience and love he has for Aurora through all the different phases of their lives together.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Hey Y’all I’m Dee. I’m a single mom to an amazing 4-year-old son. I have a cute little wiener dog named Maverick, i love to craft, do word searches, jigsaw puzzles, diamond painting and hunting, i love true crime, obviously reading, collecting books and looking at all things books lol. country music is my jam, and i feel like im super lame and boring but others say im crazy for thinking that. We are a squishmellow obsessed family, and my niece and i collect disney doorables, anything that is a mystery toy we bond over. ok im reaching and rambling now to try to think of things.

I read just about everything or will at least once. my favorite’s genres I tend to go to romance, thrillers, reverse harem.

I refuse to pick from the WOTR authors because I love them all but my non attending authors I enjoy are Anna Todd, Colleen Hoover, Alice Feeney, Nicholas Sparks, Lisa Renee Jones, and a few I’m sure I’m forgetting about

On a typical day, how much time do you spend reading?

3 hours. I feel like more but at least 3 that I know of for sure unless I cant put the book down because it’s that good

Grandma and Grandpa from Lacey Black’s Summer Sister Series, THE QUAD from Brandy Slaven White Trash Trilogy, Salt and Pepper twins from Mary Martel Ariel Kimber series, and The fraternity house in C.A. Harms Oh Tequila Series.

What makes these characters so special is they are hilarious, super sexy (not the grandparents lol) and they are just forever holding a place in my heart.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

I just want to say a special thank you to Angie for asking me to be apart of this amazing blog as a new mom. I never thought I needed this in my life and I’m so glad that I have these amazing ladies as apart of my tribe. They have definitely been a huge part in my life and I don’t know what I  would do without them. Also to the amazing authors that I have become friends with who have became more like family for giving me a chance to read your works of art and trusting me to review them and love them like you do

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

For all of us Stage Dive fans, this novella was a great look back into our favorite band and family.  Ev and David’s nanny, Jude, is the main female in this story along with Lena’s ex/Jimmy’s rival for her attention, Dean.  Now we all love Dean and felt bad for him, so I was happy to see him get an HEA along with Jude.

Jude and Dean find each other sharing space at Ev and David’s guest house.  She is stunned stupid at how beautiful and nice he is.  He seems a bit smitten by the crazy woman in fuzzy socks.  When the ladies essentially force Jude to admit what she was feeling, they of course, decide to help. LOL  Poor Jude.

The novella is a quick read into Jude and Dean facing a lot of issues like super model ex’s, super fans, and some old school teenage crush issues.  Serious the epilogue had me laughing so hard.  I love this group and this novella makes me what to reread the series again.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

I love anytime I can get a Stage Dive book in my hands.  I love all these characters and enjoy seeing them all again. This quick little read is about Dean and Jude.

Jude is Ev and David’s nanny who stays in the guest house. Dean who is Stage Dive’s record producer is also staying in the guest house for a bit. Jude is attracted to Dean but leery of pursuing Dean because of the connection to her boss. Dean is also leery of getting with Jude after loosing Lena. They have an instant attraction that even with them being cautious they feel the pull to one another. Once the Stage Dive crew sees the attraction between Dean and Jude all bets are off to get these two together.

I enjoyed seeing Dean and Jude getting to know each other. There is a bit of drama but it is short lived. Not sure I would handle things as Jude did if someone came in unannounced and ate my dinner.  JUST Saying.  She is such a better woman than I am. I enjoyed seeing Mal and Anne, Ev and David, Lena and Jimmy and getting more of a glimpse of their lives. I love this Series so much.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The books that follow, for sure. You can do anything you want with book one, but you have to be careful not to mess up details in the following books. You’ve set a precedence with that first book that can make writing the next books intimidating.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

By changing up the tropes and creating unique characters. Maybe book one has a serious, rule-following heroine, but book two’s heroine is a witty, risk-taker.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Books are written word by word. Some days, you’ll only get a few down. Others, you’ll get a couple of chapters. But every day you write, you’re making progress. One word at a time.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Writing? Ha. An hour? Doing “admin work” and “networking” on social media? Um… no comment.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Jesse Enders. That man has a heart of gold and he is my ideal book boyfriend in all the ways.

I purchased this audio book.

When your BFF reads a book and tells you that you have to read it because she knows you will like it. You do not ask questions you pick it up and listen to it.  She was so right I did enjoy this one not only was it a good story but the narrator took it to another level.  Hayden did a great job.

Bree just had a crappy day. Found her fiancé in bed with another woman so she decided to hit the bars with her BFF. I loved Denise and seeing her and Bree’s friendship. Bree ran into Jase at the bar and decides to have a one-night fling. The next night she is out the door and never plans on seeing him again.  When Jase wakes up and she is gone ticked him off. He thought they had something. When the stars line up Bree is brought back to Jase and he is going to hang on to her and not let her run again.

These two are amazing together. They both have their demons they are trying to forget but they keep working their way back. They each understand what the other is going through and knows what the other needs. I loved that Bree was just as tough as Jase. She is no weak female that needs Jase but strong enough to stand up to him.

I enjoyed this story so much I have to say the narration set this one apart from other audio books. I am excited to read more of this series.

Tarina has spent her entire life in and around the military – first as a dependent and then as an enlisted Air Force member.

She writes contemporary and military romance about strong women and the men strong enough to love them. She draws heavily from her own military experience to create authentic characters who face real personal challenges.

Tarina is still active duty and a single mom of six-year-old twins. Her favorite hobby is sleep. She has delusions of retiring from the military and being a stay-at-home mom and full-time writer.

Depends on my mood that day. I like the series because you get to know the characters in depth and their families. I do like a good standalone once in a while. The novellas are great for when you just have a couple hours to read that day.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend reading?

I read on my lunch hour and then in the evenings while waiting on my kiddo get get out of practice. If it’s an audio I can listen to those anytime.

Do you have a favorite character written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Lucas from Broken Scars by JM walker. He was years in the making and I loved him from the moment I saw him in another book of JM’s. I knew he was mine. He is the quiet computer guy but also a badass. There was something about him from the beginning and I had to know more about him and learn his past. Really like I needed to know why he was who he was.

I thought Roman in Bully King was broken, haunted and outright mean. Boy was I ever wrong. Preston is worse. Much much worse. First, I just want to say that if you have triggers, PLEASE read this book with caution. I believe Andi has trigger warnings for this book on her website but I’m not 100% on that.

I can read anything and I don’t have triggers at all but the prologue to this book made even me feel very uncomfortable.

I’m a huge fan of Andi Jaxon’s MM books. I thought Bully King was my favourite and then this one came along and it’s definitely pushed BK out of the #1 spot for me.

This story is dark mixed with a sliver of light. It’s grumpy/sunshine and that’s not an exaggeration. Jeremy is the sunshine that Preston needs. Andi wrote Preston perfectly and what happens to him is beyond tragic. His dad needs to be shot and peed on.

As far as I know, this story is a standalone but there are some side characters that I would love to see stories for. A little MFM action could take place between a set of twins and a lady. Hint hint, Andi. Hint hint.

I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for more from Andi. This story is the perfect amount of steam and plot. One doesn’t over rule the other either.

Hi!! I am married to the most amazing man. You will see him running around behind the scenes event day rocking his #WOTRfamily shirt. He vetoed his shirt saying trophy husband. SO RUDE. We have a daughter in college who is also running behind the scenes at the event. She is the one in the raffle rooming all day long manning the tables. Slave labor is ok if its family right???

We also have 4 insane and large dogs plus one heck of a monster cat. She runs the house no joke.

I am a parent educator by day and a blogger by night. I have been in the education field since 1996. I recently left teaching Pre-K Special Education to start doing Home Visiting for low income/teen moms to help with an early intervention type learning. I love it and love the impact I make with families.

When I met Jill and she mentioned starting an event in the area I jumped. I am so proud of everything we have done these past 7 years. This  yearly event is pure dedication from us hosts, the authors, the sponsors and the readers. We love how much you all have embraced what we do and can’t thank you enough for everything from helping pitch in the event weekend, the raffle basket donations, the word of mouth to others about how phenomenal our event is and so much more. We are blessed when we say we have an Family because we fully believe in it.

How long have you been blogging?

I started officially blogging when TwinsieTalk started on October 14, 2014. Previously I was on street teams for authors and did ARC reviews only. I am blown away we have been around for 10 years!!

What are your favorite genres?

Paranormal by far is my favorite but I love a good MC too. Reverse harems have snuck into my heart the last few years as well. However, give me a love triangle and I am SOLD!!!

Who are some of your favorite authors?

JR Ward, Teresa Gableman, Mary Martel, H. D’Agostino, Michel Prince, Jade C. Jamison, Tricia Andersen are pretty much auto buys for me. I recently devoured a series by Tarina Deaton and I am having withdrawals from her alpha men. I also read and fell in love with a new author SJ Chaynie whose MC debut was amazing!!!

Do you prefer to read standalones or series?
Novellas or long books?

I appreciate a series. I am dedicated to a few and I wont be stopping with them anytime soon. There are times when I grab a standalone just for the one and done aspect. Novellas are my jam when I have a couple hours and want a quick HEA. I guess my answer is I love them all but it depends on what I want to read at the time and how much time do I have.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend reading?

I am all about audio during the week so I can get a good 3 hours in each day. Physical reading is a weekend thing and I get a book or two done if I have the time to spare.

Do you have a favorite character written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

So purely because its hysterical. My favorite character written was by Kylie Scott.  She name a character after me in Mal’s book in the Stage Dive Series (Play).  “Angie” was the skank Mal texted by mistake instead of Anne his fake fiancée.

I just want to thank everyone who has stood behind Writers on the River.  It blows my mind how big this has gotten.  Each year I stand at one point and almost cry at what we have accomplished again.  When the totals for donation are announced, I almost pinch myself that we have done this.  So Thank you for all you do to help us help the ladies at Thistle Farms.
