#WOTR #Review – RUSH (Montgomery Men #1) by C.A. Harms

RUSH (Montgomery Men #1)

I was running from my husband, a man I thought I’d known. Running from the hell he had put me through.

He’d nearly destroyed the woman I had once been and I would do whatever it took to regain my freedom.

I would lie, and cheat. I would steal if it meant that I never had to go back there.

I’d run and keep running…

But there was one problem. I hadn’t planned for Ashton Montgomery.

He was a distraction I couldn’t allow. Not if I wanted to stay safe. I had to remain distant, but he was relentless and had other ideas.

I caved because I hadn’t thought it all through, not in detail.

If I had I would’ve realized that you can only live in a fantasy world for so long before everything came crashing in around you.

And those lives you’ve destroy along the way, make you no better than the monster you were trying to break free from.

How could I have been so careless? It wasn’t meant to turn out this way. But the Rush of my freedom took control and I forgot how important it was to keep the secret of who I had once been.

And now I had nothing…

Only the fear that the man I’d run from would find me again, and finish what he started.

EARLY REVIEWERS ARE LOVING IT!
–Rush, is written superbly. From start to end all the words piece together beautifully. The story line flows easily through a very solid foundation. The angst ranges from light to heavy to “damn my breath has gone”. Rush is indeed a Rush of epic proportions!

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

Oh my!!  SOOOO uhm yeah…*Blushes* hey Ashy How are you? *Gulps* uhm Knox I didn’t see you there stalking the background. *eyes bug out* Hey Beckett you’re here too. *Whispers to self* I don’t think I can handle all the Montgomery Bothers in the same room at the same time!!  WAY TOO MUCH HOT FOR ONE GIRL!!

Ok so yeah those Montgomery guys are yum.  They are alpha.  They are cocky.  They are arrogant and they are my dream come true!!  LOL  I am totally loving Ash but I gotta say I am prolly licking Knox and calling him mine…juuust staying.

Ash is a total player and if you think he is going to be more than a one night stand, you my friend are stupid.  Ash won’t be tricked into anything and he can’t trust anyone so why even attempt it.

Kins has lived a nightmare.  She is married to a monster who she barely escapes when she goes on the run.  She ran and ran and ran right into Ash.

As much as she fights it is as much as he chases.  When she finally decides to stop living in fear and try to live again they couple explode with hot times……and then we are feeling Kins and her guilt…..she loves Ash but she can’t tell him the truth.  He husband will stop at nothing to get her back.

I gotta say,  I loved dominate Ash but that sweet and gentle Ash won my heart.   I liked the storyline and felt horrible when Ash discovers things about Kins but also wanted to throat punch him a few times too.  His assistant Lex WAS HILARIOUS and I so hope he gets an HEA!!   I am so excited for the next book because Beckett seems like he is mega serious guy and love is going to knock him off his rocker.  However, I notice that this means my boyfriend Knox is last…sigh…fine CA be that way!!

A little about me. Let’s see where to start.
I love HEA stories, as long as they come packing a little heat. I need some excitement, some angst, and moments that make me fan my face are always good too. I am an Illinois girl, born and raised. Simple and true, it honestly doesn’t take much to make me happy. I love the little things; they truly mean the most. I may have a slight addiction to my new Keurig—oh my, that thing is a godsend. And so fast too. I have two children who truly are my very best friends, and their faces never fail to put a smile on my face. I have been married to my husband for sixteen years, and even though at times I want to beat him with a stick, I would never change the years we have had. We have learned and fallen, only to pick each other up, dust off the ache, and help each other make it right.
I am one of those authors that adore my fans. I love to hear from you. After all, it is because of each one of you that I continue to write. I look forward to your feedback.

#WOTR #Spotlight – Maggie Adams @AuthrMaggieAdms

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hello, lovely people! I’m Maggie Adams, author of the best-selling Tempered Steel Series. My first book, Whistlin’ Dixie, a Tempered Steel Novel, debuted at #83 on amazon’s Top 100 in women’s fiction-humor. I write small town romance filled with humor, suspense and erotic sex scenes. In other words, I write about life! I’m married to my high school sweetheart, have two talented children, both married, and a beautiful baby granddaughter.

I also write erotica, paranormal and young adult romance and suspense. So look for me in almost every genre!

When and Why did you start to write?

I’ve always loved books and would often continue the stories in my head with my favorite characters. I don’t really recall exactly when I started writing them down; they’ve just always been with me. I wrote the Tempered Steel Series after my hometown was devastated by a flood, and the story just flowed through me. I decided to try and publish it by myself, with the help of my tech savvy kids, and voila’, I’m a published indie author!

I can’t think of any career more rewarding or challenging. I love every minute of it, especially hearing from my fans and new readers. So drop me a line! I’ve always got time for a chat.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

Oh my tastes have varied through the years, but a good story is a good story. Classic Historical romance is Kathleen Woodiwess. I love Jayne Ann Krentz and how she merges her storylines with her other personas in historical and futuristic novels; erotic suspense has to be Lexi Blake and Shayla Black; and contemporary romance I always one-click my book bestie, Renee Kennedy, but I’ve met so many wonderful authors in the past two years, it’s almost impossible to list them all!

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

I often start out with a loose plan on how the plot is going to go, but somewhere along the line, the characters and dialogue take over and I’m just along for the ride! No matter what, it always makes for an interesting story.

I love the writing process, even the blocks, because it makes me really think about how I want the story to end, as well as expanding my knowledge of many different subjects due to the research involved.

What are you working on now?

I just finished book six in the Tempered Steel Series, Cold As Ice., so I’m working on the seventh and final book to the Tempered Steel Series, Tempered with Love. Although the Coalson family saga may be coming to an end, its not the end for them, as they will pop up in my new paranormal series.

I’m also collaborating on a new series with Renee Kennedy, Heather Szczesiak and Jenni Wynne, as well as a young adult series, the Hot Mess sisterhood with Renee Kennedy, and an erotic series with new erotic author, M. R. Cummings, so I’m pretty busy.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

Oh I’m a little bit of both. As I said earlier, I have a loose plan of where the book or series need to go, but the voices in my head lead the characters to new paths all the time and I just tag along.

It all works out in the end and makes for a pretty interesting story, or so I’ve been told.

#WOTR #Spotlight – Dakota Trace @dakota75

Dakota Trace

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi I’m Dakota Trace. I’ve been writing professionally since 2008, but when I’m not clacking away at the keyboard, you can find me putting around the garden, out on the marching band field or cooking up something yummy in the kitchen for my kiddos.

When and Why did you start to write?

I’ve been writing for a long time. I think I wrote my first story in third grade – one about an older sister who had to teach her baby sister all about life. (I was quite precocious at age 8.) The teacher was so impressed, she stapled it together, like a real book and put it in the school library.

I didn’t start my serious writing however, until I was in junior high. My eighth grade language arts teacher caught me scribbling in a notebook in class and asked me to read it. With her encouragement, and a lot of support from my dad, I wrote my first full length story that year – about a girl who could talk to animals. Since then I’ve written numerous full length books and short stories.

However, the why is quite simple. Not only is it an escape from my hectic life as mom to three teenagers, it also gives the voices in my head an outlet. 😉

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

I devour most paranormal books. I love shifter series, particularly those by Shelly Laurenston, Lora Leigh, and Laurann Dohner. But you can also find me reading Draven St. James, Josh Landon, and Cherise Sinclair.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

That when I started writing I was a 100% panster. I let the story take me where it wanted and if I had to cut out huge chunks during edits, okay, it was part of the process. Now, 10 years later, I’m a total plotter. I sit down fill out a GMC for my book before I even start writing it.

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working a paranormal polar shifter book. I haven’t dabbled in paranormal for awhile, even though I love to read it. And thought it would a nice change from my sexually charged and intense bdsm books.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

Plotter, now. I use both a GMC and Beats worksheets to make sure that I stay on track.

Chapter One
Legacy Gym

Present day

I look around the gym. The walls are black and mirrored, the floor is black cement covered in red mats. The back wall, where all our daily equipment is stored, is covered floor to ceiling in black lockers. Hand wraps, gloves, medicine balls, headgear, nut cups, first-aid equipment, and clothing that have our logo on them.

Our logo. I am a part of something. There was a time in the not so distant past when I wasn’t sure I would ever be anything. There are still days I couldn’t give a shit less if I do.

To the left are sparring mats and a few pieces of cardio equipment. To the right are free weights, a few high-end weight training machines, five heavy bags, seven speed bags, and five timing bags. In the middle is where I prefer to spend my time and energy. The cage.

I look at the large clock hanging above the doorway to our office. Nine-thirty at night. That means I have been here for thirteen and a half hours.

Eight hours would send a normal man my age running home to his family, to a hot meal, or to a bar where he could have a drink and relax with his friends. I am not a normal man.

Normal men don’t have blood on their hands, and if they do, they have it with remorse in their hearts, or the blood came from fighting a greater cause. The blood on my hands came from an anger that took control, from the rage within me, a rage that still controls me.

“Put one foot in front of the other. Stand tall and proud. Make the decision that you are both of those things and never let them think any differently. You are a good man, a good kid. Your past doesn’t define you; your present and future do.”

Shaw, my father’s oldest and closest friend, words ring inside my head as I look at the picture of him, Jagger, and I hanging on the wall, illuminated by bright white up-lighting.

If only putting one foot in front of the other wasn’t so hard. The weight of the world is heavy on my neck, making holding my head high almost impossible.

Shaw believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Now Shaw is gone.

After killing the lights and locking the doors, I let out a breath and walk toward the door in the back left-hand corner of the gym that leads to my apartment upstairs.

I stand in the apartment above Legacy, a gym that Jagger Caldwell and I inherited. A gym that trains people like me. It was willed to us when Shaw’s fight with cancer ended.

I suppose he did it to make sure his promise to his best friend, my father, was kept. He made sure I had something, an income, a place to live—a piece of something tangible while I served out my parole sentence for a crime I committed eight years ago.

Honestly, it feels more like a curse, a cage, a confined space, than a new beginning.

My body aches. It’s bruised and sore, all feelings I not only accept, but embrace. The harder I push myself, the more men I get in the cage with to train, the more hits I take, the closer I get to controlling the fury that simmers just beneath a boiling point inside my soul.
I walk to the bathroom and stand in front of the distressed mirror above the small sink that is rust-stained from the constant drip of a faucet that I keep telling myself I will fix, but I have no intention or desire to do so.

I strip off my sweat-drenched clothes and turn toward the shower to start the water. It takes a good five minutes for it to heat enough for my liking, and while I wait, I brush my teeth and open the cabinet.

I stare at the last bottle of pain meds prescribed to Shaw. I pocketed them after he died when the rage became worse. It is a battle of wills to tame the beast inside me. Waking up and looking in the mirror, knowing what I did and why I did it.

I twist off the childproof cap and count as I dump the pills out into my hand. Twelve. I have twelve nights left to sleep, and then the nightmares will ensue. I make a mental note to space the pills out to every third day. I can do without sleep for that long, no more.

I let them fall one by one back into the bottle, except one, as I feel my exhausted body become tense again. Anxiety is starting to creep in, so I take the last pill in my hand, toss it in my mouth, and swallow it down.

Before the pill’s effects kick in, I get in the small shower and bend so the water falls over my head instead of hitting the middle of my shoulders. When the water starts to run cold and I feel a bit drowsy, I step out, towel my hair lightly, and then drop it to the floor, allowing my body to air dry. Then I look up at my reflection and see a man who looks much older than his twenty-five years.

My eyes, once bright green and alive, are now dead and unreflective of feeling. My hair, once cut close to my scalp by my father’s own hand, is now well past my shoulders and a mess of brown waves. It’s only down after a shower or bedtime; otherwise, it is always tied up in a knot on the back of my head. I don’t have any damn desire to go to the barber. That would mean I would have to talk to someone. I’m functioning just fine here without making those types of connections, and there is no appeal in changing that up.

I run my hand over my beard. It’s been three days since I last groomed. I shave every fourth or fifth day, but never down to the skin.

I am six-foot, five-inches of intimidation. I weigh in at two hundred and forty-eight pounds of muscle, and my skin is covered in black prison ink. I have no desire for anyone to look at me and become confused as to who I am. No desire to have someone look at me and want to know more about me, or who I was. I have no desire for anything but the occasional release I can get anywhere. All I have to do is force a smile and say a word or two in order to get that need met.

My appearance is intimidating. It keeps people away. I’m not trying to give off the illusion that I’m unapproachable. Illusion would imply it wasn’t real.

It is real.

I am Michelangelo Mazzini. I was once called a saint by my peers, my teachers, and anyone who knew me.

Not anymore.

Now I am known as Kid.

I lay on the king-sized mattress that sits in the middle of the floor and stare at the ceiling, waiting, waiting, waiting for sleep to take me. The numbness that is my life isn’t holding me back. Rather, it’s my mind that won’t turn off, waiting for the next move.

I try not to close my eyes on my own. I wait for exhaustion and the drugs to do the work for me. Otherwise, I will be fighting a losing battle.

Chapter Two
Tatum

“Tatum, this is not what’s selling anymore. We need something …” Melanie pauses as she sighs.

Melanie and I have been friends since I sat next to her in a Shakespearian literature class we both enrolled in as an elective while attending Columbia for our Masters’ programs. Hers was in the classics; mine was in religion and journalism.

She loved fiction,a story you could get lost in, and I loved nonfiction, a story that didn’t allow you to run from your boring life, but showed you a life that you could get lost in and know it was real. Fairy tales were never meant to be believed in. They are stories written to scare children into behaving or else, so why waste time on them? Show them how to cope, what to avoid, and maybe a story that inspires them to do the right thing of their own accord.

She is the yin to my yang, the spring to my fall, the day to my night. The point is, she’s the lost-in-her-head kind of daydreaming chick, whereas I am the one who wants to get lost in reality to avoid getting lost in my head, and worse yet, believing that shit is even possible.

I am sure she has no other writers like me on staff. I am sure of this because one night, over drinks at Hotel Empire, she told me so. She told me in the sweetest way she could that I was my own worst enemy. That I had talent in abundance and was just too stubborn for my own good, and that if I were anyone other than “the Tatum” that played her Romeo a couple years ago, gaining us both an A in that godforsaken class, she would have walked away a long time ago.

We are opposites in our views on life, but who we are on the inside isn’t much different from the other. Both of us left our hometowns, knowing we were destined for greater things. And unlike most, we are willing to work our asses off to become. It landed us both in New York City, a city where we knew no one and no one knew us. A city that I swear wants to eat up young girls’ dreams and spit them back in your face.

Nothing about here is easy. What it is, though, is real. It’s gritty, it’s hard, and it’s all-consuming. If you can live here, you can live anywhere. Mark my words.

I know she could walk away at any moment, but Melanie would never. Even if she should run and not look back, that’s not who she is. It’s not who we are together.

We are forever friends, through thick and thin. The type of friends who you could talk to once every six months and pick up right where you left off. Though, in reality, we may go weeks without speaking due to work, but we have never gone more than a month at the most. She is my soul sister, and I am hers.

A few years ago, Melanie took an internship at a mid-sized literary agency, and I took off to write a story that would rock the world. I gave her, A View from Home, a novel about the foster care system in our country, and she went over the head of the man she worked for who said, “It wasn’t good enough” and emailed it to a company contact at Random House Publishing, where they not only bought the book, but hired her that day.
She became a junior editor at Random House, and I became a novelist. She became a senior editor when my first book put me on the New York Times Bestseller list. The subsequent three novels hit the list as well. Acclaimed awards, Wall Street Journal, and we were both riding a high of dreams coming true.

I can hear as she taps her long fingernails on her glass top desk, and then I hear the bell go off inside her head.

“Raw.”

“I’m giving you raw. I’m giving you real. I am giving you what people go through every day,” I tell her, trying to keep my annoyance at bay. After all, she is trying to help me.

“The market has shifted, Tatum. What’s selling is not this.”

I hear a thud and am certain it’s the manuscript I sent her. She prefers e-mail; I don’t.

“Then I’ll self-publish,” I threaten, and she audibly hisses into the phone, saying nothing.

This is new territory for us both. I love Melanie. I love working with her. Unlike the horror stories I hear about publishers washing out an author’s voice in edits, she doesn’t do that to my work.

“You still there?” I ask.

“I am,” she says firmly then pauses. I hear a door shut, then her heels click across the floor before she sighs out, “Please, Tatum. Please give me something that will blow the roof off this place. I know you have it in you. I know you do. Just let it happen.”

“Do you need this, Melanie?” I ask, wondering why she suddenly wants to mold my work into a completely different realm than I have ever written.

“Yes. Yes, I do. We both do.”

I sigh, feeling the weight of her world and my own landing firmly on my shoulders. “Okay, give me two months.”

“One,” she says, her edge returning.

“You have to push, don’t you?” I half-laugh.

“You taught me how,” she returns with a smile in her voice.

“Talk later.” I start to end the call.

“Wait! It has to be hot, Tatum. I need your voice, but bring the damn heat.”

“Melanie …”

“You’re gonna need to put yourself out there.”

“Meaning?” I have no idea why I ask when I know damn well what she is getting at.

“When’s the last time you actually got your peach plucked?”

“That’s none of your business,” I say with no intention of answering her, especially when she uses words like “peach plucked.” That’s up there with “moist” in words I would rather not use or hear reference to in sexual situations.

“You need to go find yourself a sexy, suit-wearing mogul,” she suggests.

“I’m in Detroit, Mel.” I sigh. “Remember, I was going to show the times in Motor City. A whole look back and look forward.”

I hear her nails tapping her keyboard. I know damn well she’s googling where to find the perfect place for inspiration.

“Get your ass to Texas.”

“I’m here for a month.” I stand with my phone in my hand, looking out the hotel window at what I know from pictures was once a beautiful city.

The river is mucky, the boats decrepit, and the cracked sidewalks once were beautiful. Detroit was something a long time ago.

“Right,” she sighs. “You can’t change your plans for the eye candy and your best friend?”

I laugh. “Melanie, this is all set up. Money spent, timelines sorted. I’m willing to think outside the box and shift my focus, but I can’t uproot my plans and still feel like I’m not insane.”

“Okay, okay,” she concedes.

“Goodnight, Melanie.”

“Goodnight, Tatum,” she says with a softness in her tone that is without a doubt caused by the stress I just alleviated.

Hers is gone, and mine has returned. Yin and yang. Night and day. We are never on the same page, but the balance is and always has been there.

I sit down on the chair next to the small table by the window, grab the glass of sweet red wine I had just poured, and take a drink. It’s sweet, crisp and, God willing, it will help me sleep tonight.

I drink the entire glass, and then pour another before reaching across the table to grab the manila folder and drag it closer to me. I look through the pictures from the 1950s: the new buildings, the finely-dressed people on the streets, the cars. The streets were full of them, all shiny and new. Detroit used to be spectacular. I know it was; the proof is in the pictures. But it is not anymore.

All that glitters does not always remain gold.

All that once was beautiful doesn’t remain so.

All that was lost will not necessarily be found.

Time does not stand still.

I stand up and stretch my neck as I walk over and grab my laptop, carrying it back to the table and opening it up. Then I click on the new document and title it:Mommy Porn.
“To new beginnings,” I toast the air then take a sip.

There is a saying in the writing industry: “write drunk and edit sober.” I guess I will give it a try tonight.

Sweet Jesus, am I really going to do this?

For Melanie, I will.

House of Diviners (The Diviners #1)

Kelsey Jackson Diviner is a shaman–a walker between worlds, a healer and protector.
But when she witnesses a gruesome attack on one of her own, she must become a hunter and track down the monster responsible for disturbing the delicate balance between the human and spirit worlds.
In trying to navigate her day job as a therapist and help pain-in-the-ass ghosts cross over by night, Kelsey draws the attention of a clandestine paranormal society and a mysterious man who calls himself the black dagger god.
Set in modern-day Los Angeles, this urban fantasy unleashes a blend of magic and thrills.

Bitter Ashes

Madeline knew her life was strange, and not just because she could sense the emotions of others. Having people die by your hand on two separate occasions can make a girl question her very existence. Still, she never thought she’d wake up in a world straight out of Norse myth. A world where corpses reanimate all on their own . . . and she’s supposed to be their executioner.

The Redoubt

Voted one of 50 Self-Published Books Worth Reading 2016. Having bested beast, man, and even his own failings, King Bewilliam has restored his embattled kingdom, yet finds his life lacking. When a crippling famine threatens the Chalklands’ very survival, his vassals propose to seek aid from a distant monarch, unaware that the plan will reunite their king with a woman from his past: the Empress Alexandra, a formidable ruler in her own right. The expedition proves perilous and the king calls on his sole female knight, Dame Deidre, to face off against a murderous mob rabid with hunger. As treacherous as the journey is, the greater challenge comes when the king confronts a powerful woman whose love he spurned.

Muse (Tales of Silver Downs #1)

Brigit is supposed to become a wise woman but she longs for something more exciting. Diarmuid is a bard who accidentally brings his imaginary muse to life, only to discover that she isn’t the woman he thought she would be. Together they need to find a way to destroy the muse — if they survive the journey to find her.

Amaskan’s Blood (Book I of the Boahim Trilogy)

Adelei, one of the feared Amaskans, is sent into the hands of the Order’s worst enemy—her father. She tumbles dagger-first into the Boahim Senate’s political schemes and finds that magic is very much alive and well in the Little Dozen Kingdoms. They say the truth depends on which side of the sword one stands, but they never said what to do when all the swords are pointing at you.

The Enclave (The Verge: Book 1)

Katherine Kirk lived only for vengeance. Vengeance against the man who destroyed her home, her family and her life. Sent on a babysitting mission to Junter 3, RAN officer Katherine Kirk, finds herself quickly embroiled in the politics between the New Holland Government and the Val Myran refugees claiming asylum. After an Alliance attack, Kirk and her team hunt the enemy down and discover that they have finally found the lair of the man they have been searching for…
And the captive who has been waiting patiently for rescue.
“What would you do to the man who destroyed every important person in your life?”

Sovran’s Pawn (The Black Wing Chronicles Book 1)

Convicted traitor Bo Barron will do whatever it takes to purchase her father’s freedom from his kidnappers, even assume the guise of a Kiara Joy Babe at a high-stakes gambling tournament. When a handsome stranger steals a kiss, everything Bo thought she knew about her assignment turns upside down. If she wants to save her father and keep herself alive, she’s going to have to figure out how to survive the game she didn’t realize she was playing.

Ghosts of Winter (Echoes of the Past series)

Deep within the city of Caerton, shape shifters hide in the guise of humans, secretly fighting to protect them from the unimaginable demons that threaten their world.
Caerton’s newest shifter, Stalker, faces an uncertain future; as her pack struggles to cope with their devastating loss, dark forces begin to mass in the shadows. Tensions with the Witches continue to threaten the north, while the young shifters desperately strive to determine which of the city’s elders they can trust.
As an ancient and deadly evil emerges from beneath the city, Stalker and her new pack face a frantic race against the changing face of the moon. Can their demonic enemy be defeated? Heroes will rise in this, the second thrilling instalment of the Echoes of the Past series, where creatures from our darkest nightmares stalk our world…

GAH!!  I have been waiting for this book.  I am a big paranormal girl so this book has had me anxious.  I wanted to know the what and the how and the who for the final installment!!

I needed to know if everyone will be ok.  The book was ALL OVER THE PLACE with some wild turns.  There were some twists and I was like DOH I didn’t see that coming.  There was a lot of fun stuff with the series.  It was so new and fresh that I devoured each and every page.

I think the unique new story line is what I was attracted too.

#WOTR #Spotlight – Laura Hawks @AuthorLHawks

Laura Hawks

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Laura Hawks
Ms. Hawks has always been interested in writing in some form or other. A few years back, she was involved with and then ran a Star Trek Interactive Writing Group which was successful for a number of years. Yes, she is a trekker and proud of it.

A few years back, she received her Master’s Degree in Ancient Civilizations, Native American History and United States History.

It was at this time she got involved in role playing on FaceBook, which gave her ample opportunities to grow and hone her writing ability.

Today she has several books out, including the Demon Trilogy, a couple of stand alone’s and a non-fiction souvenir book on the Balconies of New Orleans. She recently wrote a Suspense/Thriller which is her second non-paranormal book.

She lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her three companions, all males… cats. She travels as much as she can to various Author/Reader conventions and loves to meet established fans and make new ones, some of which she considers friends more than fans. Check out her FB page https://www.facebook.com/Laura-Hawks-249262585192270/?fref=ts to see where she is going next.. maybe you can join her.

When and Why did you start to write?

I’ve been writing in one for or another since I was a child. As an only child, I ended up making lots of stories or song lyrics in my head to keep myself entertained. I started writing for a snail mail interactive Star Trek group and continued with a Dark Hunters group on line. Writing novels just seemed the natural progression, albeit, I still run and write on a Dark Hunters group.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

Sherrilyn Kenyon for Paranormal. Graham Masterton for Horror, O’Henry for Short Stories, Kahlil Gibrhan for inspirational and Peter David for Sci-Fi. Harry Turtledove too for Alternate Reality.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

Writing is the easy part. It’s all the other stuff, editing, publishing, marketing that still surprises me.

What are you working on now?

The second book in my Spirit Walkers Saga Series. Entitled Shifter’s Pride. It’s a Native American Shifter’s Suspense Mystery. A serial Killer is on the hunt for their next victim. Can Det. Shaw uncover the sadistic murderer in time or will he fall victim as their prey.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

More pantser, but I also do a bit of plotting. I also add historical and cultural aspects within my stories, so I have to research and that requires planning as to how it will fit in the story so it won’t seem jarring.

Number of pages: 400

Cover Artist: Amanda Walker

Meet the DiDominzio family—fiery, loud, Italian. Francesca, Antonia, Gianna, and Carmine were raised by their strict, old school Italian father. Each sibling has their own journey but how they find their happily ever after definitely isn’t easy.

The King and the Pawn – Francesca, the baby of the family, wants nothing more than to fulfill her dream of being a fashion designer. Unfortunately, Papa DiDominzio will stop at nothing to squash her dreams and lead her toward the traditional career of the women in their family. Francesca concocts the perfect plan to bring home a man her father will hate in hopes that he’ll make a deal so she can still reach her dreams.

Not in Love – Antonia, the sexy second to youngest DiDominzio, exudes nothing but sex appeal, especially with her non-traditional blue eyes. After dating one man after another, Antonia thinks she’s finally found the man of her dreams until she realizes the one she really wants has been right in front of her since they were children.

One Day as a Lion – Gianna, the eldest DiDominzio sibling, is the only one that has followed Papa’s wishes by marrying an Italian man and working in his restaurant. While her brother and sisters suspect something isn’t right with her marriage, none of them can prove any differently. However, there is one man that will do everything in his power to save Gianna from the man she calls her husband.

Destined For You – The only male sibling, Carmine is more like a second father to his sisters than their brother. There’s only two things that are important to Carmine-his family and his club. Keeping up with his sisters and running his successful business leaves him no time to find a mate. As luck would have it, fate falls into his lap, changing his world, in more ways than one… and not necessarily for the best.

The King and the Pawn review

I grabbed this book off Amazon when I saw it was free but pre-orderd the whole series as well.

Holy Moly!!  Guy….puuuurrrrrrr…..can I get a Texan like that to be my pretend boyfriend?  I mean I know Lyssa you said I would want to lick Carmine buuuut dayum was Guy delicious.

Ok so the rest of you prolly wanna know what in the heck I am talking about right??  Frankie is the youngest of Italian siblings.  She wants her trust fund to buy a business but Papa is not about to give her a dime of the money.  It seems Papa is old school and wants her married, preggo, and working in the family restaurant not being a fashion designer.  BOOOO PAPA!!

Guy is returning from his last tour in the Army.  He is dreading returning home because he has a mess to take care of when one of his platoon buddies offers him a night of fun at a night club.  Guy not in any hurry to go, stay and meets our Frankie.  The two are attracted to each other and hash out this plan. She is using him to get her money and he is using her to stay away for his responsibilities.

As the two are forced to spend time together, you can see the longing annnnd the lust.  Not gonna lie…lust…lots and lots of lust happening there!!  J  When the time arrives and Frankie is going to confront her dad, she is given some information that shocks her to her core about Guy.    She is lost and confused.  Guy has become her anchor and he is lost as to what happened to them.

The epilogue was awesome.  I love imagining Guy speaking Italian to Frankie!!

“But, Papa, this is the opportunity of a lifetime! Do you know how many aspiring fashion designers have the chance to build their own line of clothing at only twenty-four?”

Desperation. Yes, there’s definitely desperation in my voice, but there’s nothing left. I’ve begged, I’ve pleaded, I’ve cried, but nothing has broken my father’s old-school Italian demeanor. This is a last ditch effort to convince him to sign off on the trust my Noni DiDominzio left for me so I can fulfill my career aspiration of my own women’s fashion wear. My boss is moving to France and has offered me to take over his line, giving me free reign on designs. All I have to do is come up with three months rent and it’s mine.

“Francesca, in nine months, the trust will be yours to do as you please. However, I suggest you look at how your siblings used their inheritance. Their money was used to buy a house, a car, even start a business which is how Noni intended for you children to use it.”

I throw back my head and let out an exasperated sigh. Lifting my head up to look at my father, I take a deep breath, knowing that I’m walking on thin ice. My father, Andrea DiDominzio, is Italian through and through. He’s got the full head of dark hair, the olive skin tone, brown eyes, and the man sticks strongly to his Italian beliefs despite the change in times. My siblings and I look exactly like our father, except for Antonia, my middle sister, who has blue eyes. However, we all share the loud, feisty attitudes which we’ve inherited from our father, his father, and his father’s father. Being the baby of the bunch, I have to fight louder than the others to be heard, but it still doesn’t mean I get my way.

Speaking calmly, I nod, “I would be doing the exact same as Carmine. He used his money to buy the nightclub. I’ll be starting my career with Noni’s money. Papa, this is just the beginning of what I can do with my skills.”

Papa leans back in his plush leather chair on the other side of his desk, his fingers steepled together. He’s not smiling with his lips but I can see it in his eyes. “Francesca, you know I don’t agree with your choice of profession and I can assure you Noni wouldn’t either. When you turn twenty-five, the money is yours so you can do as you please then.”

“But, Papa, the opportunity will be gone by then and I’ll be out of a job!” I stomp my foot like a child not getting their way.

“Mia figlia, you know that you always have a job at the restaurant which would be an excellent place for you to meet a good Italian man to settle down with.”

He’s smirking. The man is seriously smirking at me while he stomps all over my dreams. I’m not even going to entertain his suggestion. Turning my back, I grab my jacket off the chair and mutter under my breath in Italian.

As I open the door, my father calls to me. “Francesca, ladies don’t speak that way. I’ll see you in a few days at our Christmas celebration weekend.

With a huff, I slam the door to his office and let out a scream. My father is infuriating but I’m not giving up on my dream. One way or another, I will have my clothes in a show in New York Fashion Week. Just wait, Papa, I’ll make you proud despite not having your blessing.

For The Love Of A Widow by Christina McKnight

I receive this book from the author for an honest review.

Oh man!!  This book was amazing.  I loved the novella and the different approach of the characters.  Lettie is a great heroine who has gone through A LOT in the last 6 years.   She has left her best friend/betrothed, her dowry, her EVERYHTING to marry a common man.  To marry a soldier.  All of this against her families wishes.

Daniel was so far in his “cups” to care that his best friend was calling off their marriage.  He only cared about ruining himself further in the gaming halls, with willing woman and other things.   His depression and downward spiral after his father’s death left him a mess and so saying good bye to Lettie was fine with him.

6 years.

6 years later everything has changed.  Lettie is not the popular debutant in the Ton from before.  She is a jaded widow who has seem more death and blood shed then any one should have seen.  She is lost without her beloved Gregory.  He was lost to her in the war.  She returns home poor, and destroyed on the inside.

Daniel has realized his life is nothing without Lettie.  He let her go 6 years ago, because he was too drunk to know any better and has regretted it every day.  When she returns, he will do anything to have her back.

The heartbreaking recounts from Lettie are enough for you to understand why she pushed everyone away.  When Daniel opens up to what made him wake up, you want to badly for them to figure to out.  Seeing Daniel open up to Lettie, I was totally swooning!!  This story was a great read and I would love to read more from them in the future…maybe have them pop in to a future story would be awesome too!!
