Protect Me Not is a young adult, enemies to lovers, forced proximity contemporary fairy tale retelling mash up of Aladdin/ Beauty and the Beast.
Lyra Grigor is the easy going, sweet, smile-at-everyone owner of The Sweetest Things. When an annoying travel site puts Starlight Harbor on their Top Ten Tacky Tiny Towns list for the fourth year running, she knows it’s time to give the writer a bit of spicy tart instead of a teaspoon of sugar.
An outsider who just wants out…
Spence Côte has no idea what hit his site. Nearly a thousand replies on some little baker’s comment and everything has blown up. Since the site is up for sale, it couldn’t have happened at a worse time. Now he has to drive up to the middle of nowhere coast of Maine and get this resolved. ASAP.
Two worlds collide…
Between the puppies dressed as pirates, the older women masquerading as tavern wenches, and the sweetest little baker he’s ever seen, Spence knows Starlight Harbor might not just be freakishly adorable….it might be what he’d been looking for.
I was given this book by the author for an honest review.
I am not sure where to begin with this book except to say it landed in my lap during a much needed time. I needed some light. I needed some sweet. I needed a delicious buttercream frosting cupcake that only Lyra and Spencer could provide.
This book is ab-so-lute adorable fun. It is insta-hateish love??? Is this a thing? I dunno but Bria did it and I loved it. This book has banter…lawd the banter between Lyra, the harmed town baker and Spencer, the journalist and or Mob Boss??? I loved the town history and why they do the Christmas celebrations year-round. I loved how the town rallied behind Lyra when she was throwing Spencer out of town…Angie and her dog did make me smile A LOT.
I was reading this book and laughing so much. The townspeople are nuts but in the best dang possible way. Lyra and Spencer and both head over heels about the other but pride keeps them at bay from admitting feelings pluuuuuus they aren’t really sure if feelings are reciprocated.
I had the best couple of hours reading and admit I might grab the next book in the series just because I wanna see how Cam is going to win Vi. She is a disgruntled female who is going to be wooed in a biiiiiiiiig way.
But honestly this book was just a fun read. It’s a good book when you just need some happiness or feel good in your life. Don’t we all need and want some happiness and feel good!!??

The Overlook is supposed to be the place for me to heal the wounds left by my father. Instead, Ty has made it his mission to make my stay here pure hell. He has no idea who he’s playing with, though. I give as good as I get—and then some. I’ve already survived the Devil personified, and this cocky rockstar has nothing on him. The trouble is, the more I learn about Ty, the more something in me craves what he’s trying so desperately to hide.

If monsters aren’t real, why do I kill so many of them?
I’ve spent the last five years training as a vampire hunter. My goal is to hunt, maim, and kill as many of the bastards as I can. They’re infecting our city and each time I manage to kill one, five more spring up in its place. The vampire hunter’s council is breathing down my neck, but I’m already working 25 hours a day, eight days a week.
Then one night, everything changes.
I make a mistake and a vampire catches me. He doesn’t kill me, though. Instead, he brings me into his lair and he makes me question…everything.
What if everything I’ve ever been taught has been a lie?
What if the vampires aren’t the real monsters?
What if it’s me?
Megan Slays Vampires is a standalone steamy paranormal romance by Sophie Stern, author of Honeypot Darlings and Shifters of Rawr County. If you enjoy this story, check out her other vampire books: Vampire Kiss, Eternity, and Chaotic Wild.
I was given this book by the author for an honest review.
Ok here goes. I love Sophie. Period. Full Stop. I want to be her best friend. I want to hang out and have her tell me what is happening in that beautiful, creative brain. I have been a reader of her LC Mortimer Zombie books for a bit. I recently made the cross over to Sophie’s books annnnd I am in love. Her stories hit my paranormal heart right in the happy place.
Megan is a hunter and working for “The man” to rid the world of the gross and terrible vamps/shifters/snake creatures/monsters/etc. She is proud of what she does until an injury leaves her a bit weak. A mysterious and sexy as sin vampire with braids and delicious dark skin talks to her and leaves her with questions. Megan is all WTF is happening to me? I can’t be thinking about that dude!
Donal is stunned stupid at the sexy, curvy hunter who just killed his good friend, but he can’t help but take a sip off her to see why she is so different. That one sip…pretty much ruined all chances of forgetting her. He doesn’t know why she doesn’t know who she really is and is intrigued to find out.
When Donal and Megan meet again, he then helps her see what she has been blind to all along. She learned the truth about what had happened to her as a child. She learned how “the man” she is working for isn’t as innocent as he seemed plus….she finds love in the most unusual place. Ya’ll the “Love” stuff…..get some cold water ok…the thigh scene…yes please!!
I loved the constant twists and turns. I also loved the new mythology that is given in the story. Like the difference between shape shifters and shifters. I loved so many of the characters. I need a Jewell and Kyle novella!! The banter between Donal and Megan was wonderful!! But I loved the sensitivity, and the creativity Sophie brings when we learn about Donal and what makes his special.
*Chef’s Kiss! I can’t wait for more books from her!

In book two of Permanent Hangover: Cain Washington would gladly pay a million dollars to have a shrew as nice as the one Shakespeare had to deal with. Because frankly, the one living next to him makes the Bard’s seem like a Sunday school teacher. As the chief fixer at the Permanent Hangover Tattoo Parlor and Bar, he’s cursed with the ability to see the beauty in everyone. Though his harpy of a neighbor tests and teases that ability on a daily basis, Cain’s never been one to let a challenge stop him. Especially with the flashes of the beautiful soul he can see beneath the surface that is keeping him mesmerized.
Bianca Jessel came to Minnesota for advancement and, more importantly, to escape the fact of who she is. Born ‘blessed’ with light skin, she found in the land of ten thousand lakes that she’s seen as everything, but a woman of color. Determined to keep it that way and assure a future blessing for her own children, she chooses her men based on a list of criteria. Sadly, the one person she wants the most has one glaring disqualifier. Too bad he lives next door.
After years of conditioning, and with the lies rapidly catching up to her, can Bianca push past the voice of her grandmother admonishing every aspect of who she is? Can Cain show that her beauty is not only inside her, but in the skin she tries to deny? Or will the decades of self-hate bring a halt to an everlasting love before it has a chance to start? And could the lies turn into a dangerous situation instead of one girl’s misguided musings of one’s worth?
Lemme start by saying I loved the narrator and the narration of the story. Logan did a great job varying up the different characters and their voices for me during the audio listening.
Ok so this book…..so complex….I had to sit on it for a few days to think about what I was going to share with you and why its taken me so long. One word – Bianca!! Man I just did not like her. But you see my 5 star rating and are like uhm Angie Explain yourself here. LOL Give me a second and I will.
Bianca. She is a mess. I mean a MESSSSSS!! The hate she has for herself makes her as cuddly as a porcupine. She has an end game and that is it…marry a rich white guy (with a cough I imagine) so she can be set for life. The issue is, she is also hiding more and more of herself with each failed relationship because …well…because she a black. Now I know you’re all like ..uhm Angie ..calm down and let me explain. Bianca’s grandmother did a number on her. She told her she was a blessing because her light skin made her undeterminable. She could be passed off as Italian, Jewish, etc but no one would think she was black. This is where my view of her changed. I felt bad for her. I mean she was never able to embrace what made her an awesome person because people could find out she was black. I can’t imagine being raised and being told to look down on people with the same skin coloring as your own and as your parents.
Cain…omg did I love him in book 1 annnd my love for the tattoo parlor player didn’t stop but wait…is he not the player he pretends to be? What is he a soft and gushy sweetheart after all??? Cain is not at all threatened by Bianca and her nonsense. In fact, he picks up on her and all that she does to push him away. After a night when Bianca needed help, Cain was right there to rescue her like he does with so many women he meets. Cain is there to break down Bianca’s walls and even help her see what a beautiful soul she is when she stops putting up the wall and facade.
Cain and Bianca start to explore where the relationship could go but Cain is all the while afraid she will hurt him and Bianca is afraid people will see her different for living as an openly black women. The twists and turns in the story were great. Catching up with the Permanent Hanger over crew was amazing. I don’t know if I want Puck or Sarah’s book next. Both are going to be such a great read but I kinda hope its Puck and his naps…lol

With characters yelling “It’s my turn damn it!!!” She tries to explain to them that alas, she can only type a hundred and twenty words a minute and they will have wait their turn. She knows eventually they find their way out of her head and to her fingertips and she looks forward to sharing them with you.
When Michel can suppress the voices in her head she can be found at a scouting event or cheering for her son in a variety of sports. She would like to thank her family for always being in her corner and especially her husband for supporting her every dream and never letting her give up.
Michel is a member of RWA Pro and Midwest Fiction Writers. In 2013 she was awarded Elite Status with Rebel Ink Press. She lives in the Twin Cities with her husband, son, and cat.
There’s no way Mandy Butler would ever let herself get attached to anyone. Sure, sex is fun, but love is for suckers. Her parents taught her that. She has her friends, a job she loves, and lots of fun flings. Everything she thinks she wants.
Ashton Gilmore is at a crossroads when he meets Mandy. She’s every thing he’s ever wanted in a real relationship, but she might have too much baggage for even this hot political fixer handle.
For the past few years the women of Growing Strong Montessori have been discovering loves they’d never thought possible. Sans one, Mandy who has spent the last few years taking one hit after another and can’t see Ashton Gilmore as anything more than a bump in the road.
Ashton has to find a way to teach Mandy that love exists, before she gives up on the concept all together.
I am going to be honest. I am not sure if Michel gave me the audio code for this audiobook or if I bought it. But whatever the case, here is my honest review.
Let’s just get to the point with narration…Kat Maxwell is amazing. I love love love all the books that I have listened to her narrate. She has a great ability to make each person sound different. She can emphasize at just the right time in certain scenes to make sure you get that intended laugh or pick up on the sarcasm. Seriously her narration definitely brings more to the table and authors should be looking her up for books. I never doubt an audiobook when I see she is narrating it.
Oh Mandy, Mandy, Mandy….or Miss Man as the kids call her. She is a broken mess of hurt, sadness, rejection, and loss of emotion. I mean everyone knows someone like her or everyone had been where she is. She uses her body and sex to make her FEEL but in the end is left feeling worse. When secrets about her parentage come tumbling out of the closet, she is stunned at how this little bit of news will change the “Growing Strong Mafia”. She soon learns that not everything is what it seemed.
Ashton sees what an amazing, loyal, fierce, and sexy as hell person Amanda is but can’t understand why she devalues herself all the time. He is falling for the hard as nails teacher and wants to make sure she understands he is there for the long haul IF she can open her heart to him. He makes her soon see that relationships aren’t all THAT bad IF you find the ONE person to complete your soul.
Don’t worry friends Mandy does not make it easy for Ashton but he challenges her at every turn while being there to comfort her as her life slowly starts to crumble around her. More and more secrets start to spill, and Mandy starts to wonder why life can be so craptatic. Mandy also needs to realize that Ash IS WORTH IT and WILL NOT disappoint her in the end.
Don’t worry friends, I yelled at Mandy a time or two to stop being a rock-hard stubborn idiot. I also yelled at Ashton to slow his roll because Mandy is a timid horse who will buck you at every turn. However, their story was hilarious and funny to read. Her hating him more than air was the best thing ever especially knowing that no one believed her line of bull!!

USA Today Bestselling author Brooke O’Brien brings the hate to love feels in this steamy enemies to lovers, underground fighter romance.
Austen Fox always knew how to get under my skin.
When she arrived at our foster home four years ago, I recognized the pain she carried with her.
She deserved more than she had been dealt in life. She’s worthy of far more than I could ever offer her, and that’s why I’ve warned her to stay away.
After her brief stay at Haven Brook, I never expected to see her again, especially not hundreds of miles from where we once lived.
We’ve both had our share of secrets we’ve kept hidden. Secrets we’d fight at everything to stay buried.
When I find out someone is blackmailing Austen, it’s enough to change the game for me and I quit fighting what I always knew to be true. I’ll stop at nothing to take down whoever’s threatening to hurt her and make them pay for what they’ve done.
Even if it means fighting until my last breath.
I’m Wild Irish, and I’m ready for war.
*Wild Irish was previously featured in the Hate to Want You Anthology.
USA Today Bestselling author Brooke O’Brien writes steamy and swoon-worthy contemporary romances.
She believes a love worth having is worth fighting for, and she brings this into her stories where her characters risk it all for love.
If Brooke’s not writing or reading, she’s probably spending time with her family, binge-watching the latest crime documentary, indulging in chocolate, or watching Hawkeye football or NBA basketball.
Scott Carter is a bully. Scott Carter is a racist. Scott Carter is the most arrogant douche I have ever met. This man-whore charms the pants off all the girls, but not me – the Latina from the wrong side of town – I see none of that charm. I get the worst of him. He has made my life a living hell, tormenting me for years with no reprieve.
Just when I’m at breaking point, Scott Carter steps in and makes everything ten times worse. My whole life is turned upside down in an instant. And now, after he’s messed up everything, that’s when he decides that maybe we should try to be friends. He wants to reconcile and put the past behind us.
Ugh! No! He can go to hell. I want nothing from Scott Carter…but it’s starting to look like he wants something from me.
If you’re looking for haters-to-lovers romance with a sexy, cocky hero and a sassy, quick-witted heroine, this one is just for you. #slowburn #highschooldrama
Dear Reader,
Although this cannot be considered a ‘dark romance’, please take note that this book contains many triggers that may be offensive such as suicide (before the book begins) and bullying. In particular, there are some racial slurs. As a woman of color myself, I fully understand how hurtful these words can be. I am no stranger to them either. However, I did not want to tiptoe around this issue or sugarcoat the severity of it. I wanted to highlight how damaging such slurs (or any kind of name-calling for that matter) can be to the person on the receiving end. It also contains strong language and sexual content and is not recommended for readers under 18 years of age or sensitive readers.
