#WOTR25 #attendingauthor #Authorinterview – Bria Quinlan

Bria Quinlan

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Bria Quinlan – smartass.

Ignore that.

Bria Quinlan – Quirky Girl Contemporary Romance and YA Issue Book author who writes hotties with humor. Her dog has more followers than she does but is a freeloader with zero sponsorships. She likes tea. The kind you drink, not the drama kind (but she’s nosy, so feel free to text her if something’s really good.) She loves pretty much any book ever except for the ones she doesn’t like.

How did you hear about this event?

The amazing Sara Whitney and Skye Malone convinced me to apply to join my first year. They raved so much about the people that it seemed like a no brainer. And they were right!

How many years have you attended?

2025 will be Lucky Number 3 for me. I’m excited to see the new space and all the new energy the ladies are bringing this year.

What genres do you write?

I write Sweet Rom Com ridiculous that is sweet or closed-door and YA Issue books that focus on mental health with humor.

What is a book of yours you wish more people read?

I asked one of my favorite readers to answer this for me and she said: “Tell them adult books, start with The Catching Kind. YA start with Secret Life…no Wreckless…no Secret Life…no…”

What is one fun fact about you?

I’m the last of an era: A “corrected” leftie. I went to a super rural school and even though it was the 70s, they were still “correcting” us. Then, after not letting us do anything with our predominate hand, gave me all As and a C++ in penmanship. I’m still bitter #overachiever

Bria Quinlan

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Bria Quinlan – I write high banter, low heat rom coms that make you snort your iced tea out your nose and YA issue books that having you laughing through your tears. My dog Jack things he does most of the hard work, but looking cute and walking over my keyboard does not bring the kibble in.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first 15% of every book nearly kills me. Which means I almost die on a regular basis.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

If it’s not real and fun and funny to me, how can I expect it to be to my readers? The idea to “not go there” has been thrown out the window years ago because … well, light the truck on fire as my character Bridget would say.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Find a hobby that in no way can turn into a writing resource. I opened a vintage shop and am using all my “love to research” non-writing energy there. It’s filled my well because I’m absolutely calling it a hobby not a job. It’s easy to turn everything into story fodder…too easy.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

About 4 hours a day is spent writing or businessing.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I mean, I know my readers expect me to say Abby. And so to stay on everyone’s good side I will say… Connor… I mean, Abby! Abby is the right answer!

What is your definition of success?

Years ago it was paying my bills. Now it’s just being happy and content. Life is too short and I’ve cut a ton of stress out of my life.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

Iced tea is a perfectly reasonable drink — unsweet even if you live in the south and year round even if you live in the north

Here is my top 5 in no order

Beastly Tales Trilogy by MJ Haag

From Book 1: ** Adult Romance **
Benella is concerned with two things–avoiding the two village boys who torment her and scrounging for food to help feed her family. Unfortunately, the best wild fruit and vegetables are near the walls of the estate, a dark misty place inhabited by an unforgiving beast.

When her tormentors lock her behind the massive gates, Benella knows her fate is sealed. Yet, the fate isn’t one she expects. Her encounter with the beast starts a bizarre cycle of bargaining for her freedom, a freedom the beast seems determined to see her lose.

A classic fairy tale with a seductively dark new twist, the Beauty and the Beast saga begins with Depravity.

Intended for mature readers due to sexual situations and moderate language. This book is part 1 of 3.

The completed Beastly Tales
Depravity, Part 1
Deceit, Part 2
Devastation, Part 3

My favorite is book 2 so here is the review –HERE

Beekeeping Age by Sophie Stern

He’s older. Wiser. Hotter.
More mature.
And he’s my best friend’s dad.

Remington West is the kind of guy who can get me into a lot of trouble. He’s twenty years older than me, for one thing. He’s Anna’s dad, for another.
Still, there’s an electric energy between us that I just can’t push away.
My body doesn’t seem to care that he’s all wrong for me.
It only seems to care that he’s of beekeeping age, and I…
Well, I’m ready to be kept.

Beekeeping Age is a standalone age-gap contemporary romance.

Confessions of Timber Creek by SJ Chaynie

Elle Andrews is my best friend. The one I let slip away, and now, she’s my four year old daughter’s new nanny. I may have had ulterior motives when I convinced her to take the job, but she needed work, and I needed a replacement. The plan was easy. Get her into my space, and prove to her that despite the past, I’ve always been hers. But when disturbing news about her parents surfaces, and four years of buried tension comes out, the plan takes an unexpected turn. There are three sides to every story. Yours. Theirs. And the truth.Book 2 of the Timber Creek Series. Series will contain interconnected standalones.

Perfect Risk by CA Harms

Perfect Risk (Book #1 in a 12 Book Series)

Mason Creek, Montana is my home. It always has been and truth is, there is no place like it.

I can hide away in a big city, pretend as if I’m not drowning. I can ignore the sadness inside my heart that is begging for a change. But if I’m being honest, my sense of belonging has disappeared. I thought I wanted the big city life, the fast track and all the glamorous things. Turns out, there’s nowhere I’d rather be than home.

Coming back to help run my mom’s business gave me the perfect escape.

But there is one problem.

An unresolved past has a way of haunting anyone. Things can sure get complicated when the man that broke your heart all those years ago is now your new landlord.

It may get a little messy, I may regret my decision to stay…
But then again, this might just be the Perfect Risk.

Worth the Fall by Bria Quinlan

Who could possibly lose her job, apartment, and boyfriend in one day?

This girl.

I won’t lie. When my boyfriend took me out for a fancy-shmancy dinner, I was thinking jewelry not “please return your security deposit” the weekend I was moving in. Which, can we just talk about the fact I was going to move in with a long-term boyfriend who wanted a security deposit?

Instead, I got a lecture about not being able to pull my weight and a breakup. In public.

I’m over it. I’m over the good-paying job that kept me trapped in the wrong spot, the fear of moving on…and men. New rule: World Domination Without Men.

Period.

There’s only one thing slowing me down. That cop.

Yeah. Okay, so I may have accidentally broken some laws this weekend. Nothing big. But that hot cop has shown up everywhere. Now he’s living across the street from my new place and doing super hot cop things like cooking and salsa dancing.

I can’t help but wonder: Can I do the Single Girl Takes on the World thing and let Mr. Hottie Officer in or do I need to put him in the slammer of my big picture plan?

Now I just need to decide: Take over the world solo or risk another heartbreak with Officer Hottie?

#wotr #attendingauthor #smalltownromance Back to You (Starlight Harbor 2) by Bria Quinlan

A prodigal daughter…

Vivian Breck left town years ago after she and her first love “took a break.” With a not-so-secret baby on the way and a mother who was anything but understanding, she left Starlight Harbor to make sure her little one had nothing but love when he was born.

A first love never forgotten…

Camden Ross never got over losing Vi in high school and now that she’s back, he’ll do anything to win her—and her son—over. He’s got family on the brain and there’s only two people who can fill that hole in his heart.

Love never dies…

When the notorious Ms. Angie and her sidekick puppy Captain Jack Slickpaws wreck the town sleigh, Vivian needs to work side-by-side with Cam to repair it before the next Starlight Harbor vintage weekend or risk losing the state heirloom to a museum who is threatening to play finders-keepers. With the town’s history on the line, why is she having trouble focusing past the cut forearms woodworking first love?

WARNING: The Starlight Harbor series is a collection of quirky, fast-fall romances. You may start as enemies, but this novellete series means you’ll end up as more — Also, you’ll have to battle the town lairds (yes, plural), a troublemaking pup, and the women who seem to think there’s a 1900s war.

i bought this book and here is my honest opinion

Vivian left town when her and her first love broke up, she needed to not only keep herself safe but her baby she was keeping a secret. but now she’s back home in Starlight Harbor and is running the local garage and living next door to an ex from her past. When Ms. Angie lets her sidekick Captain Jack hit the emergency brake on the towns famous sleigh that is used at all the holiday events, its forcing Vivian and Cam to have to work together to get this staple in town back in prefect shape on a short time frame. How will Vivian going to handle her feelings and heart, but also her son’s heart and wanting to have that male figure in his life. Vivian’s life is already so busy and a little complicated she wasn’t about to add a relationship into the mix. but will her heart and head both agree? omg i just love this little town and all the characters, but Captain Jack is by far the best.

One more nannying gig will earn her enough to achieve her dream of small cottage on the coast. That last job brings her to Nocturne Falls where she’s surprised to find out it’s Halloween every day.

Not so much on the normal, but high on the adorable.

Baby Gus and Uncle Hottie—aka Tim Johnson—seem to be a walk in the park at first. The flirty infant and the nerdy, glasses-wearing cutie grab her heart from the start. She’s falling fast for both guys, but she can’t help but notice that some things aren’t quite what they seem…

I bought this audiobook.

I have been devouring Bria’s backlist and when I saw this one, I said why not!!  I mean its paranormal = my jam. It’s a novella = Quick read.  It’s audio = YEEESSSS!!!  I love audio and the narration for the story was ok.  BJ wasn’t my favorite, but he wasn’t the worst by any stretch.  I like I just am obsessed by Brittany who narrated her other books so switching seemed just WRONG!!

Minx, the new nanny, Gus, the adorable baby, annnnd Tim, the nerdy uncle, are the cast in this sweet novella.  Minx is hired to help new uncle Tim take care of Gus.  I haven’t read any of the Nocturne Falls Universe so I don’t know how they are but this one was hilarious.  Bria writes some of the best crazy characters.  This story is another great one.

Minx and Tim are just trying to figure this nanny gig out but someone is not about to let them escape the love bug.  I loved the story and it was a great Sunday afternoon drive audio book.  It was a couple hours long and perfect for anyone who loves a great HEA filled with hilarious storylines.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audiobook.

LOL This book is a mix of confusion and hilariousness.  When the chapter starts with Connor wondering if he should propose to Hailey…oh yeah he has this convo with HAILEY.  It sends our girl into a freakout.

Hailey is worried about marrying Connor.  She fears it is too soon.  Slowly as this book happens, she realizes there is no reason why she should fear marriage to Connor.  He is her everything.

This book we see Connor is a bit distracted and we the readers can kinda figure out what is going on but we wonder how this will all play out.   The final chapters had me in stitches because Connor and Hailey are a riot.

I absolutely love this crew and especially Hailey and Connor.  They are my heart couple.  But I admit I am giving Gavin side eye much like Hailey.  Dang Connor so telling us…I mean Hailiey we can’t have his brother and him.  LOL

This novel is an absolute must for a fan of the series.  This made me so happy but I really want to see so many more books from the series.  Gavin needs love.  Abby needs love.  Dane even needs to get his butt kicked by love too.

The Catching Kind (Brew Ha Ha #3) by [Bria Quinlan, Caitie Quinn]

Hailey Tate thought she was worth more than a straight flush.

Apparently not.

When camera-shy author Hailey Tate’s agent loses a bet and brokers a deal, it leaves Hailey in the last place she wants to be: backed into the corner of Publicity and Paparazzi. Now, thanks to her girl-next-door image and role as pretend girlfriend to a womanizing shortstop, she’s getting the attention she always managed to avoid.

Connor Ryan is not only America’s Sexiest Athlete, he’s also the current Bad Boy of Baseball. But when he goes a base too far, management wants to bench him…permanently. One thing he never counted on? Falling for his sweet, fake girlfriend. He’s the guy who can catch anything and now she’s next on his list

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this audiobook by the author for an honest review.

STAHP!!  I can’t believe I am in love with this series.  This girl likes smut and all the naughty bits and yet, I can’t stop reading!!!!  I am 110% invested in this crazy crew of misfits.

As always, the narration by Brittany was amazing.  She does crazy woman well.  LOL Like I feel like her reactions are totally mine.

Hailey has been a quiet side character until this book,  I even massaged Bria with an idea on who her HEA was with based on what I was reading.  I was wrong and was a little crushed and then….I met Connor Ryan.

Connor is just meh when we meet him.  Total player and we hope he doesn’t touch us so we don’t get whatever STD he has at the time.  Yeah, guys he is nasty.  Hailey is non to thrilled to be near him and then she finds out she has to spend quality time being his fake girlfriend!  Poor Hailey.

This story is a great ride. We see them not stand each other and then come to an agreement to be friends.  Well once the pressure is off, we see feelings start to happen.  We see jealousy and confusion.  But we slowly see LOVE blooming.

I absolutely loved Haileys freak outs and her friend’s reactions. Well not so much Dane’s but yeah.  I just love that man whore.  LOL  He has some crazy ideas and I was laughing so hard I snorted.  But Connor and Hailey are my favorite couple.  They really get to know the real person and understand how the other works.  They realize they both have so much in common even with him being a ball player and her an author.    My favorite scene that made me SWOON so hard was Hailey’s boo release party…guys for real!!!  Connor is my favorite, and I can’t wait for the next book because it’s also Hailey and Connor!!

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audiobook.

I want to start by saying RomCom and sweeter romances are not typically my thing.  However, I found these stories from Bria and fell in love with them.  I also admit her narrator is on point.  She makes me feel like “Hey that totally sounds like me and my friend’s reactions” when she tells the story.  She is the perfect voice for the women in the series.   They are all kinda a fun hot mess if that is possible.  LOL

Kasey’s entire world is falling apart.  Her boyfriends dumps her…she loses her apartment…she loses her job….I mean what else could do wrong.  Oh yeah having to deal with the police a few times in a 24 hour period.  Until Kasey rolls into the Brew and John is there like a guardian angel to help her with a couple issues she fears for her current situation.

Kasey meets a great cast of characters like Jessa, Ben, Hailey, Dean and Max….grumpy Max.  Max who has seen her in her undies.  Max, who is so alpha, he can’t help himself.  Max who is also scared to death of sweet Jenna.  Those were the best convos!!!  LOL  Jenna is a sweet evil thing.

Max has seen enough to know Kasey is not the girl for him.  She IS the definition of Hot Mess Express and yet he can’t stay away.  He is drawn to her with every encounter which makes him so mad at himself.  Yet he still makes her dinner and takes her to the movies. Also seeing a jealous Max was kinda fun!!

Kasey refused to look at the reasons why Max does the things he does for her.  Until all of a sudden, she can see him for him and that sends her over the edge (due to a couple extra drinks the bartender gave her) into confused heart land.

These two cracked me up.  They both are so stubborn to see what could be because they both are NOT into the other for XYZ issues.

Get a date for the big gala in four weeks when I thought I could go solo? Challenge, accepted.

Now to find a hot, interesting guy who will dress up for a gala. Last minute. Who doesn’t already have plans on the busiest date night of the year.

But, so far the best part of the search for a great date has been the cute café I found and the geeky-hot owner who keeps rescuing me from these crazy eLove.com dates.

This should be easy-peasy. The internet is the home of all your hopes and needs, right?

Spoiler Alert: it isn’t.

Between the bromance date and the crazed single dad who needs to hire a nanny and housekeeper, not get a date, I’m running out of options.

If only a certain cutey didn’t have a phone call with “sweetheart” every day.

The weirder things get, the more I think just going solo is very I Am Woman, blah blah blah. Forget about the fact that my heart keeps bringing me back to a certain café even when I don’t need to be there…I mean, my heart doesn’t always get what it wants, does it?

I purchased this audiobook.

I have read a few really heavy and dark books lately.  I needed something fun and light hearted.  I needed something sweet and fun.  I also needed something to spend my audio credit on….hence this book.

Guys, this book was everything I needed.  It most definitely took me out of the dark stuff I have been reading into a fun and adorable happy story.

Sarah is in need of a date.  Sarah is pushed into online dating due to a “friend” who makes she feel less then because she doesn’t have a boyfriend.  The dates are an absolutely horror show to say in the least.  She is meeting her dates at a coffee shop when she befriends the shop owner.  Slowly they build a friendship when Sarah realizes, Holy crap I love John!

The story was adorable and sweet and I will be grabbing the 2nd one asap. The story was just sweet and funny and everything you need at times.

I purchased this ebook.

I read book 2 in the series and fell in total love with Jenna and Ben.  They are such a great couple while also being opposites in many ways.  Ben being the absolute hot guy while Jenna is the nerdy girl.  When they meet at a bar with Jenna’s terrible friend, Ben is laughing at her.  She is not thrilled at him and then is kinda blackmailed into going out with him and a friend with her friend.

The story is a great set up for getting to know Jenna and Ben for the rest of the books in the series.
