#IAE19 #AuthorSpotlight – Bijou Hunter

Bijou Hunter

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m Bijou Hunter and I write romantic suspense (bikers mainly) and rom-com. I live in Indianapolis with my three sons and just as many cats.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

My laptop (Ojai) and I do our work in a blue recliner in my living room. I always have a Diet Coke around and I’ll never say no to a bowl of tortilla chips with spinach dip.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

My absolute favorite is meeting readers I’ve spoken to online. There are some women who’ve been right there with me since my first book (Damaged and the Beast) in 2013. Hanging out with them is a real delight.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I was lucky enough to meet Aurora Rose Reynolds back in 2015 and she was as lovely in person as she seems online. My current unicorn authors are Jen Frederick, Kristen Ashley, and the ladies behind Alexa Riley.

What author would you love to write with?

Oh, I wouldn’t wish on any author the horror of dealing with me. I write out of order, do little early plotting, and rarely hit my deadlines. Of course, if I could get my act together, I bet I’d enjoy writing with Jordan Marie.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

The best experiences involve receiving messages from readers saying how my books helped them through difficult times. Sometimes, my books made them laugh and distracted them from their troubles. Other times, they find it cathartic to read about characters overcoming issues similar to what they suffered. Those messages inspire me when I’m dealing with writer’s block.

#IAE19 #AuthorSpotlight – JC Valentine

J.C. Valentine

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hola! I’m JC Valentine. I enjoy long walks on the beach and sweet iced tea, no matter the weather. My kids are my life, my husband my rock and often a source of inspiration, and I collect animals like some people collect beanie babies. A writer of all things romance, you never know what I’ll deliver next, so strap yourself in, open your mind, and enjoy the ride–you won’t be disappointed 😉

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

I write wherever I can. Living room, in bed… as long as it’s quiet and uninterrupted and I have a bowl of chips beside me, we’re good to go!

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

The anxiety! All kidding aside, it’s always amazing to meet readers and catch up with fans–and do a little fangirling myself!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

JR Ward is my unicorn. I may not write like her or even in her genre, but she rocks my socks and I devour her stories.

#IAE19 #AuthorSpotlight – Jaime Russell

Jaime Russell

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Jaime Russell and I’m horrible at talking about myself. I stutter and stammer when someone asks me questions about my books or even me. I love reading, watching movies, cuddling with my puppies, spending time with family, and trying fun colors with my hair. I’m socially awkward and I always apologize for being weird. Give me fireball shots and call me pretty then I’m putty in your hands. HA

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

My favorite place to write is in my bed, watching something on the TV which is usually a Hallmark movie or Criminal Minds/Burn Notice. I have to have my Mountain Dew, fireball, Twizzlers, and chocolate.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love being able to talk about books. I love being able to talk about book boyfriends and not get the weird looks.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

E.L. James(I know cliche) but she is the reason for getting me back into the love of reading. Danielle Steel is my all time favorite author who I’d do just about anything to make that happen.

What author would you love to write with?

C.G. Lee, Teri Kay, Chelle C Craze, Letha Gene, Kristina Canday, and all of the great women of the MC world,

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

I cried the first time someone who wasn’t a family member or close friend came up to me and told me that she loved my book. Hitting the publish button on my first book and then hyperventilating into a bag afterwards was a great memory. I actually have that picture because it was funny.

#IAE19 #AuthorSpotlights – CJ Baty

C.J. Baty

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

C.J. Baty After a lifetime of loving to read, my son encouraged me to write my own stores. Three years and 11 Fan Fiction stories later, my first book was published. That was 6 years ago. I can hardly believe it. Since then, twelve more books followed. I have attended 8 book signing events. Met readers from all over the world and my world view has tripled in size. I would have missed so much had I not taken my son’s advice. I’ve been married to my husband for 43 years and we have two adult children.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

My favorite place to write is anywhere someone is freshening my coffee on a regular basis. I carry a notebook with me whenever I know I’ll be sitting for a bit because I have thoughts or scenes play out in my head at any time. If I’m writing at home in my office space, then there has to be something salty and Dt. Dew in my mug.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

People! I am such an introvert but signings bring out the best in me. These are my people, my tribe; even if they don’t read Gay romance/mysteries, they read and that gives us a connection. Also, getting a chance to meet up with authors, I have chatted with on line and even the ones that I fangirl over myself. It’s all about the people contact.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I have had the enormous pleasure of meeting two of the authors that I never thought would be possible. Karen Marie Moning (she writes the Fever Series) has long been a favorite and then there’s Josh Lanyon! I met her last October at GRL and oh my gosh, I was on cloud nine for days. Both women have made a huge impact on my reading and writing. If I had to pick someone that I am sure I would never meet, it would Dan Brown. The first time I read the Da Vinci Code, I read for 24 hours straight. Couldn’t stop until I finished it.

What author would you love to write with?

What an unusual question? I have no idea is my answer. I’ve never thought about co-writing with someone. Not because I’m not open to the idea, but because I don’t have any idea how it works. And,

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

The first time a reader recognized me as C.J. It was thrilling.

#IAE19 #AuthorSpotlight – Rochelle Bradley

Rochelle Bradley
Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Rochelle Bradley
I try to put an artistic spin on everything I do but there are two things I continually fail at miserably:
1. Cooking (seriously, I can burn water)
2. Sewing (buttons immediately fall back off)

I consider myself undomesticated, though I love baking and make a mean BTS (Better than Sex) cake. When in observation mode I’m quiet, however, my mouth is usually open with an encouraging glass-is-half-full pun or, quite possibly, my foot.

I am a Bearcat, an interior decorator, a cat mom, and I’m fluent in sarcasm.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

I write in coffee shops or cafes. Dayton has a new place called Epic Coffee Shoppe and it’s, well, pretty epic. Chai lattes are a go to when I’m out but at home I love a glass of red wine when I edit. Cookies or brownies are nice too.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting new people (both readers and authors) and BOOKS!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

James Rollins. I found one of his books at a yard sale and it jumpstarted my drive to write (after I read his currant books of course). I want to say thank you and have him sign my shelf of books.

What author would you love to write with?

This one is hard. A Dayton author I would love to collaborate with would be Aliya Dalrae even though she writes paranormal and I don’t (yet). We have similar senses of humor and would be snort-laughing throughout writing process. I’d also be happy to collaborate with Carolyn Brown. She’s nice (I met her and her hubby at the RWA national con last year) and knows what she’s doing.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

There are many memorable things I could list: the feeling when I was first live on Amazon, my first library event, when a paperback arrives and I hold it for the first time… but my favorite so far is the first time a reader contacted me and talked about my characters as family. She knew my story almost as well as I. It was awesome to know I lifted her spirits and made her giggle.
