*This short novella IS included in the back of Elicit (book 4) but many people have been requesting it be set apart, if you own Elicit, you don’t need to purchase this novella*

Trace is about to ask her mob boss husband to do the unthinkable…allow his enemy Phoenix De Lange to train her in combat, the very same enemy who nearly killed her the year before.
But Phoenix isn’t the man he once was, and now he’s out to prove to everyone, himself included that he can be trusted.

I’m gonna say it again I absolutely love Phoenix. This short novella is about Trace, Nixon and learning to forgive.

Nixon is all on board when Trace tells him she wants to learn self-defense but when he realizes she means hand to hand combat with Phoenix all bets are off in Nixon’s mind. Trace has a way with words and gets Nixon to agree. However there were a few spying eyes to make sure things didn’t go bad for Trace.

This is a great short story about friends rebuilding trust. I loved seeing Trace and Phoenix at the end starting over. This was a light read no mafia hits, wars or killings….well maybe they wanted to kill Phoenix. LOL

A couple of my favorite quotes:

“Oh wow, bargaining with the boss…tell me how that goes.” I scolded.
“Oh wow bossing your wife around, let me know when you want to have sex again.”
“I’m listening.” I growled, irritated that she bested me, again.

“I’m just tired and I didn’t expect the fighting to be so…”
“Personal”. Phoenix nodded curtly. “It’s always personal, Trace. Just like killing, whenever your body is in contact with someone else’s whether it’s negative or positive, and exchange takes place, it either drains you or inspires you, the choice is always yours.”

I purchased this audio book.

Elect is a continuation of Elite and the story of Nixon, Trace and Chase. There is betrayal, secrets and is full of action and suspense. We learn so much more about the Elite. This love triangle had my emotions all over the place. I felt like Nixon and Trice were the one for each other but when Nixon pushed her into Chase’s arms I wasn’t sure he deserved her. My feelings shifted thinking maybe Trace and Chase belonged together.  Chase was always the one there to pick up the pieces of Trace. The suspense of what was going to happen in this triangle had me a ball of nerves.

Even though Nixon fell hard for Trace he was willing to give her up and let Chase’s plan go forward to protect Trace. Chase is Nixon’s cousin and Chase is the closest thing Nixon has to a brother. Chase would never let his feelings for Trace go too far and betray his cousin but the longer they are together the more Chase thinks maybe there is more there and it is a possibility Trace could be his.

I liked that we got both Chase and Nixon POV in this one. I have to say I am intrigued about Phoenix I still don’t like him but it will be interesting to see why he is the way he is and does the things he does. I absolutely fell more in love with Nixon seeing his strength and selflessness to protect those he loves shows he is an amazing person in power. The twists Rachel Van Dyken puts in here was just incredible. The narrator did a good job with these POV of all the guys. I was drawn in and could not find it in myself to press the pause button. I need to get the next one to jump into to find out what will happen next.

For Tracey Rooks, life with her grandparents on a Wyoming farm has always been simple. But after her grandmother’s death, Tracey is all her grandfather has. So when Eagle Elite University announces its annual scholarship lottery, Tracey jumps at the opportunity to secure their future and enters. She isn’t expecting much-but then she wins. And life as she knows it will never be same . . .

The students at Eagle Elite are unlike any she’s ever met . . . and they refuse to make things easy for her. There’s Nixon, gorgeous, irresistible, and leader of a group that everyone fears: The Elect. Their rules are simple. 1. Do not touch The Elect. 2. Do not look at The Elect. 3. Do not speak to The Elect. No matter how hard she tries to stay away, The Elect are always around her and it isn’t long until she finds out the reason why they keep their friends close and their enemies even closer. She just didn’t realize she was the enemy — until it was too late.

I purchased this audio book.

As far as narration goes it was OK I like to hear a male reading a male roll and female reading a female role. The narrator did a good job but there is just something about a female tying to sound masculine especially when there are so many different males.

Tracey is a farm girl who was raised by her grandparents after her parents died. She won a scholarship to Eagle Elite Collage. Tracey wants to make her grandparents proud. However, she learns very quickly things at Eagle Elite are not all fun and games. Well unless you call mind games a game. She literally runs into the Elect. You see they run the school you do as they say; you do not touch, look or speak to them EVER!!! Well Tracey broke all those rules on her first day. Her saving grace is her roommate Mo who happens to be the sister of the Elect’s leader.

Nixon is the controller of all that Eagle Elite. I honestly did not like him or the others for that matter. My heart ached for Tracey the way The Elect flipped that on and off switch so easily. Talk about a seesaw ride catching highs and drop to the lows. I have to say when secrets stated to be revealed I was like holy crap its hitting the fan now.

This was something new for me. I have not read many mafia books but this one stood out. The plot was great I felt as lost as Tracey did. I loved being in the dark like Trace was I was trying to figure out why is this happening to her why are they nice, then mean then nice again. I’m saying the roller coaster was insane. This one had me pulled in now I need more. OK going to down load Elect.
