#Review – Isle of Pieces: Episode One (Isle of Pieces YA Episodic Series) by Chrisina L. Rozelle

Isle of Pieces: Episode One (Isle of Pieces YA Episodic Series Book 1)

Join Flick and Tinsley in their icy quest for truth amidst the raging fury of a post-apocalyptic ice age.

What secrets lie buried in the snow?

Will they make it to Gaia’s Gate, the last environmentally encapsulated place on Earth, or will they freeze to death at the doorstep?

As I sit here writing now, the sounds of distress and fear on repeat, the naivety of our boyish selves is apparent. We were led here by the promise that leads everyone else as close as they can get to the Great Gaia. The promise that someday, if we work hard enough, sacrifice enough, and of course, get lucky enough, we will be granted Asylum. That we’ll see the sunshine from the last environmentally encapsulated space on the planet. That we’ll know what it’s like to lie in green grass, to smell flowers and taste the Earth. We all want to believe that we won’t just die here in the cold.

Review by Twinsie Kelly

This is a thrilling first episode in a dystopian world that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. There are two teens from completely different areas. One stuck in a frozen landscape just trying to make it to Gaia’s Gate. The place where everything is supposed to be better. The other, leading a completely different life going to pageants and what not. Nothing is what it seems. I have a feeling that when they end up where they are meant to be and meet, things are going to explode! It is a quick read that will suck you right in and keep you wanting more.

Christina L. Rozelle is the author of the bestselling YA Dystopian Scifi series, The Treemakers Trilogy, which includes her groundbreaking debut, “The Treemakers,” and its sequels, “The Soultakers,” and “The Seeker’s Keys.” Hailed for its strong, believable, and relatable characters, original and complex plotting, and phenomenal world-building, The Treemakers Trilogy appeals to lovers of dystopian literature who are looking for something refreshing and new.

Rozelle’s writing roots sprouted with poetry and prose in countless journals in her early years, continuing through her tumultuous teenage years, and well into her turbulent young adult life. Though her younger self dreamed of scribing non-fiction and poetry someday, when she discovered the magic in creating fiction she never looked back. Overcoming countless obstacles of her own, the wisdom gained along her personal path through healing breathes life into her beautifully dark, yet hopeful tales of triumph. Filled with an array of emotional triggers, not many topics are off limits in her works. Rozelle’s exceptional storytelling dives deep into the survival and growth journeys of diverse, broken characters and unlikely heroes. Authentic, gritty, intricate, and wildly imaginative, her stories also offer hope—a light in the dark—as her characters discover their own inner strengths and worth in the midst of debilitating adversity.

#Review The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

An instant classic and eerily prescient cultural phenomenon, from “the patron saint of feminist dystopian fiction” (New York Times). Now an award-winning Hulu series starring Elizabeth Moss.

In this multi-award-winning, bestselling novel, Margaret Atwood has created a stunning Orwellian vision of the near future. This is the story of Offred, one of the unfortunate “Handmaids” under the new social order who have only one purpose: to breed. In Gilead, where women are prohibited from holding jobs, reading, and forming friendships, Offred’ s persistent memories of life in the “time before” and her will to survive are acts of rebellion. Provocative, startling, prophetic, and with Margaret Atwood’s devastating irony, wit, and acute perceptive powers in full force, The Handmaid’s Tale is at once a mordant satire and a dire warning.

So I’m taking part in a personal reading challenge. It’ll motivate me to get some books read that I wouldn’t normally read. I don’t think any of them are romance but I’ll review them anyway of course. This challenge is 40 books every woman should read before she turns 40. I have a year and a bit, so I have some time at least.

This book. Oy.

Now, if you’ve watched the show, you obviously know what this book is about. I’m sad to say that I never even heard of this author or this book until I was told about the show. So I watched the show first.

While a few things are different from the book to the show, you get the idea of what’s going on.

This book is about June or Ofred, who’s the main character and tells the story through her point of view. It’s a dystopian type world now, as a government has taken over. Women’s choices are stripped from them. If you’re fertile, you’re used for babies. If you’re not, you’re sent off to do who knows what. Some are Marthas, which means they cook and clean and take care of the house.

What sets this book/story apart from the rest is how different it is but at the same time, especially with things happening in the world now, it’s almost like a prediction in a way.

I won’t get all preachy or bring up worldy politics and stuff – not that I know much about that anyway – but I will say that this book, the story within this book, is one of the scariest things I have ever read. Why you ask? It’s not a thriller or a horror, Jo! I know right? What makes it scary is that it could actually happen. Maybe not exactly like what happens in the book of course but something similar could definitely take place.

I haven’t read book 2 yet but I most certainly will! But first, on to book 2 of this challenge!

Happy reading, friends!

Cursed Whispers (Broderick Coven Book 3)

He wasn’t only a veterinarian. He spoke with animals, quite literally, on a daily basis.

He rescued a wolf on the verge of dying and was shocked beyond belief when she turned out to be a beautiful werewolf.

Claudia Lupita wanted two things: her daughter and as many miles as possible separating her and the monster who’d been holding them captive for years.

Determined to protect her, Max enlists help from his closest circle.

Can they overcome her past, or had she lived through too much to accept her mate?

Broderick Coven Series:
Cursed Love
Cursed Sight
Cursed Whispers
Cursed Touch
Cursed Luck

My 5 Star Review

I was given this book for an honest review by the author.

I will admit. I was curious about Max and his gift to talk to animals. #DogLover I kinda figured he would be my absolute favorite of the Broderick family and I am right. Now if we are talking about the cast of characters in the series, Peter wins hands down, but Max is my favorite sibling.

Max is the sweetest guy who is still coming to terms with his family lineage and powers. He is troubled when he hears someone or something in the woods at Brandy’s baby shower. When he saves a wolf/woman. He is instantly bonded to her. He wants to do all he can to hep her without freaking her out at the same time. He is also freaked out at his reaction to this damaged woman but can’t not be near her.

Claudia is a warrior…that is the only way to describe what she endured and survived. She appreciated the soft and kind man but also had her walls up due to her belief all men are bad. When she sees him for what he really is, a gentleman, she learns to trust him but also worries about what she is feeling for him.

When Max and the pack vow to help her find her daughter and avenge her abuse, she is over her head with emotions for these people. Claudia slowly learns to heal and love while having the support of the pack and the Broderick family at her side.

I have to say this book is my favorite in the series so far. But man, Peter needs to find some love. I feel bad for the alpha. But I am excited for Carter’s book to be next!!

Can Dalton stop being the monster he’s been labeled and become the one who will finally save Willeen from the man hunting her?

My 5 star review

I received this audio book from the author for an honest review.

The narrator was great in this book. Logan has narrated several books for Michel and I love his ability to change voices. His narration brings you into each story. You get lost in his voice and his reading of the stories.

Dalton was a favorite side character in book 1 so I was happy to see him get a book. Granted I thought he might hook up with Dani’s school friend after the way the two seemed to eye each other. Dalton is a gentle giant who is lost in his “persona” for the Chicago Grizzles. He wants to make a mark, but it seems they want the giant lineman to play a violent man when he is far from violent. When he gets injured, he is sent to cool his heels and recuperate from the injury. He starts off badly right at the start when he “ASSUMES” (we know not to do this right?) that Willie is an old redneck with a dirty flannel. He is stunned stupid when he finds out Willie is the hottie who is getting his cabin ready for his stay. The woman was his perfect size in height and curves.

Willie is enchanted by Dalton and his sweet character but can’t understand why everyone thinks he is an aggressive man. When he finds out his “character” she is surprised and helps him realize being himself is the best way to be. The two start to build a relationship but Willie is so scared of wanting more since she cannot give that. Willie has a past she fears and is frightened to find her.

When the two finally take a step forward, Willie’s past crashes into them. She makes a choice which Dalton is not a fan of but will do anything to get his girl. When you love someone today, tomorrow, forever…you can’t let them go.
Again, I love the fact Michel brings a gritty and vile bad guy to the story. Michel writes great bad guys that you hate and can’t wait to see get their butt kicked!! LOL

His One True Mate by Miranda Lynn

Thankfully, he doesn’t have to venture far. Sauntering by in heels and a curve-hugging pencil skirt, everything about Katrina calls to him. To Leo’s great regret, she needs a bit of convincing.

Katrina Denmark is on the run from a past determined to destroy her.
By focusing her life on helping others, she battles to overcome the fears that haunt her. Finally, she’s starting to feel safe. In control. Terrified of her own growing desires, Katrina is deliberating over whether to take a chance on Leo when the deranged monster she’s spent years trying to escape catches up to her.

With her life and freedom on the line, will Katrina allow Leo to stand beside with the ferocious love of a mate? Or will her own fears force her to face the looming darkness alone?

My 5 star review

I was given this book for an honest review by the author.

This series is a MUST read for me….a PNR reader at the core. I love the characters and the way Miranda keeps the storyline fresh. Each book I feel she brings something new and some kinda new evil that the pack must overcome. This pack might be spread throughout the globe, but they are family through and through.

Oh Leo. He and his lion have been on my radar for a long time. We have watched him help Casey and her new pack. We know he helped Jerome build his pack but what about Leo?? When will he get his love and find happiness?? Well a certain therapist he secured for Casey’s pack seems to be the one who will give him all he needs and more….love, companionship, sass, and heartache. Yes, I said heartache.

Leo has A LOT to deal with in regard to Katerina AKA Kat. She is a broken woman who helps other broken women but never really looks to heal herself completely. Kat has been through some stuff and now when she thinks she has found a place to belong, along comes Leo making her lioness want MORE while her human side is petrified. Her experiences with alphas and mates have not been good. Casey and Mack are a strange concept given what she has seen growing up.

Kat’s father was a power-hungry alpha who treated the females in his pack terrible. What she endures is horrifying but her ability to escape and mend herself just enough to help others is amazing. However, Leo sets her off kilter and she soon is at war with herself over this alpha male. That hussy lioness in her sees Leo for all he is but her human side is so afraid she pushes.

Their story is full of chemistry and is action packed. When Kat’s past shows up and tries to ruin her future, she is a mess. Leo can’t handle the fact his mate is in fear and will do everything to protect what is his…his love…his future…his mate…HIS LIFE!!!

Friends, this book is seriously a perfect addition to the series. I am so excited at where it looks to be headed and ya’ll DJ is hella delicious!! Just saying. I said it first here!!!!

Dirty Crown by Mary Martel

Dirty Crown

I always held hope that the day I left the compound would be the day I found freedom.

I was wrong.
My future had never really belonged to me. My father laid claim to it the day I was born, and I had been a stupid, naïve girl to wish for anything different.

As the heir to my father’s immense empire, my crown sits heavily on my head as I navigate my way through dealings with the criminal world while trying to stay alive.

Unfortunately for me, my crown and my hands are forced to get dirty along the way. Thankfully, I’m not expected to do it alone. Roarke, my deadly bodyguard who’s been by my side since I was six, is my shadow and always will be. I also now have Alessio, the cold, tattooed hottie, Roman, who conceals everything with fakeness that comes far too easily for him, and the alluring but sweet brothers, Tito and Enzo.

When bullets start flying, and people begin dying, my five guys not only stand behind me as the queen of their empire, but they also prove they have every right to be there by getting their hands just as dirty as my own.

Dirty Crown is a full-length, standalone reverse harem novel. This book is recommended for readers 18+. It contains sexual situations, swearing, violence, and some dark themes. It also contains MM as well as MFM.

My 5 star review

I was given this book for an honest review by the author.

I am a Mary whore. I will read all she writes because they are dark, gritty, bloody, sexy as fuck, hilarious, and wrong all at the damn same time. I think I need therapy, but her books are all I ever  want in life. The crazier the character, the more I love them. The more broken the male, the more I need to have them in my stash of book boyfriends. This group of men do not disappoint…broke, alpha, arrogant, and sexy as hell men dominate Vallie’s life.

Valentina has had a life of squalor with her bodyguard Roarke to protect her in this compound. Her father is THE Mafia boss, and he loves her so much he treats her terrible. One day she is sprung from her hell to be thrust into a new roll…his puppet with his picked “husbands” for her. Yes, plural husbands. She is not willing to play his puppet, but she goes along with it until she and Roarke can figure it all out. When absolute chaos ensues, she becomes the head of THE FAMILY with her men. Friends, there is a grenade scene that absolutely cracked me up…..I mean I had mad Boss Bitch Vibes all day long for Vallie.

I loved all of her men. Roarke is delicious as her boytoy/bodyguard/lover. Enzo is the sweet one who is just as deadly who enjoys time with Roarke as well as Vallie. Roman with his crazy laughter and boy next door charm who is also scary as hell. Alessio who rules the house and the guards with brute force only we could love. Tito is a bit of mess who needs to figure stuff out but his love for Vallie is never ever to be questioned. But I did wanna nut punch him a time or two. However, If I could also see a Hawk enter this harem, it would be day made but I don’t think the MC President would be willing to share with the guys…darn. I guess just being her bestie will have to do.

This book has so much going on and I loved all the violence and grit, but all the sexy time was just as delicious!!! If you’re a Mary fan this will make your list for sure!!!

My 5 star review

I was given this book for an honest review by the author.

GGGGIIIIIRRRRL and Boys was I excited for this book!! I love Zombies and book 1 blew me right out of the damn water. I have been on pins and needles waiting for this book!!!

Ok look Gunnar….Can I just say I get why Thea was on him as often as possible because DAYUM he is all that and a bag of chips. He is the most deliciously alpha male in this book series. No offense Jason buuuut your small potatoes.
Thea is the bad ass chick you wanna have as your bestie if the world goes to crap. She is the tough as nails person who will hug you and smack you upside the head to get your butt in gear and move.

The book starts up right where book 1 ended. The rag tag team of misfits are trying to get to the mountains after defeating the bad peoples…ok monsters…in book 1. Bad people are way too light of a term for them. They stumble into an unprotected camp and Thea’s past is in her face before she knows it. Talk about crazy and hard. The leader of the new camp is friendly but…uhm…how do I say it…a sexist pig?? *GRUNT* Women do women’s work, and the manly man protect the little women folk. *GRUNT* So yeah if you get the drift on Thea that doesn’t go well with her…LOL LAWD do not get me started on VI!! BAHAHAHA She is a load of crazy and I love her so much.

When Gunnar and Thea are attacked by someone in the camp…yeah tense is a word you can use to describe the next few chapters. Finding out that there is a secret that has been withheld from the camp is also something they have to deal with and decide what to do.

I am going to always hope for more from this series because I love zombies!! But Jason and Vi…Come on…a little novella. I need to know how she wormed her way into his broken heart!!

CAPTURED (Ruins of Playa Azul #1)

I was raised in a world full of more death than life, surrounded by the blood-curdling violence and nauseating stench of zombies.

And twenty years after the Outbreak, it doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon.

After a devastating loss rocks my little group of survivors, I’m forced to venture out of my comfort zone in an attempt to find help—straight into the impenetrable walls of El Castillo.

But The Knights don’t take kindly to my mission, and when their leader, Gunner, captures me, everything spirals out of control. My captor suddenly becomes my ally as we’re thrust into a war of Gunner’s own making.

A war that threatens not only his people, but my own.

NOTE: True to an apocalyptic world, CAPTURED has dark scenes that may trigger some readers. However, it is not a Stockholm Syndrome Romance.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

If you are an apocalyptic fan, then this is a must read! This is a “zombie” book but it is much more than that. What I really enjoyed is that the story is 20 years after the outbreak and it is so much more about the overall survival than fighting the zombies at outbreak. The zombies are a threat but humans are much more cruel. Humans are calculating and cunning where the zombies react purely on instinct. Survival is all the nuances of what you will do to actually live. Thea is the MC and she is the one person you definitely want to have on your side. She is fierce and will do the craziest things to be sure you are safe and healthy. She struggles greatly with trying to keep her group safe. As if the apocalypse isn’t tragic enough on its own, she experiences great loss. While coping with this madness, she may have met her match when she is captured by Gunner while breaking into his compound. People do crazy things to keep their family safe and Gunner is no exception. When he decides to help Thea, they run into many more problems from another group that is the lowest of low of humanity.

“Because in a world where fleeing is survival, you don’t run away. You run headfirst into danger if it means saving someone’s life. And you learned that from him. Why?”…”Because, Gunner, someone has to.”

“Just days ago I wanted to destroy you,” …. “Yet here I am now, determined to make sure you don’t destroy yourself.”

This book has all the feels that will twist you up over and over again. H.R. Savage is a new author for me and now I am completely hooked. I can’t wait for more, I need to know what happens next!

The Unknown (The Unknown, #1)

EIGHT CHILDREN WERE KIDNAPPED.
BUT WHY?

Eight kids, ages nine to seventeen, awaken to find that almost everything they have ever known has been stolen from them. They were ripped from their beds in the middle of the night and transported to an unfamiliar and unforgiving new world where there are strict rules, and they are punished if they refuse to obey.

As the kids grapple with their mysterious new reality, they struggle with disconcerting questions. Where in the world are they? Why were they taken away from their families? Will they ever get to go back home? And the most frightening question of all: Will this be the place where they die?

CYBILS AWARD NOMINEE!

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Unique twist on the dystopian genre! This is insanely thrilling! First, I need to say that I was a little worried about starting the story as it is told from most of the children’s POVs and there is a manifest at the beginning. I thought I would have to go back and forth to remember who exactly I was reading, but after the first few rounds through the characters I knew exactly whose POV I was reading without double checking. The characters formed in my head as if I were right there in the mix. These children are kidnapped one night and all thrown together in an unknown place. What is even weirder is that there are no adults. Nobody to tell them what to do or why they are there. The world building is great. As the children get to learn more about themselves and each other they are all learning about their new “prison”. There are so many unknowns with the story that will keep you turning the pages. Some aspects of the story definitely have the creep factor but absolutely gripping. I believe this story is the start of a really amazing series. There were so many things that you learn about the children and this new world that when you reach the cliffhanger you will be completely invested in the story. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS NEXT! This is the first book I have read by JW Lynne but I am now a fan!

J.W. LynneJ.W. Lynne writes inventive stories with twists, turns, and surprises. In ABOVE THE SKY, teens uncover the truth in a society founded on lies. In THE UNKNOWN, eight children are kidnapped in the night and wake up in a mysterious world full of secrets. In LOST IN LOS ANGELES, a young woman must decide whether to trust an intriguing young man who she meets in a coffee shop. In LOST IN TOKYO, a college student carries out her missing mother’s bucket list in a desperate attempt to finally find her. KID DOCS dives into the behind-the-scenes action at a hospital where gifted young children are trained to become pint-sized doctors. In WILD ANIMAL SCHOOL, a teen spends an unforgettable summer caring for elephants, tigers, bears, leopards, and lions at an exotic animal ranch.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Ok so before I start my review, I am going to say Zombie books are my JAM!!!  I mean I love them and get excited when I see one because I LURVE ZOMBIES!!  So because I love this genre I am a bit picky and can tend to be a bit harsh on my reviews.  I want the book to take me away but also be realistic.  This book did an awesome job of both.  I was so impressed with this new to me author and her ability to craft a story that was believable.

Thea and her dad, along with Jason and a group of others have been hiding for years in an old prompt care building.  They are hiding from the dead AND the living.  The Moonlighters and the Knights her dad said are not groups to get involved with.

When tragedy strikes the group, Thea makes the bold and stupid decision to leave ALONE in search of medicine for one of her kids…her family….her reason for being.  She stumbles into the Knights “city” and everything changes for Thea.

Gunner is not happy his fortress has a weakness.  He also is not happy with the spitfire who keeps getting under his nerves.  When the two come to an agreement to help her people is when we meet the really bad people. The Moonlighters.  These are the people who you fear in this kind of world.  The take what isn’t yours kinda people.  The Knights and Thea soon become a team when the Moonlighters again cause strife for Thea and her family.

The story of Gunner and Thea falling in love but also respecting the hell out of each other and their opinions.  I mean he is this strong alpha but tells Thea she wreaks him at every turn because he can’t be without her.  Although he was a bit of a dick one morning with Jason…..REALLY Gunner…just pee on her already!!

The story is so fast paced.  I started reading and was like WTF I am at 50% in the blink of an eye!  The story of family and stress…so much stress in these worlds but also of finding someone who you can love with your entire soul.  Finding someone in this hella crazy world is something you can’t deny or refuse.

The side characters are amazing but Jason…my heart aches for him and Vi because she is hilarious, and I think maybe even a bit crazy.  I pictured Harley Quinn when I read her parts…LOL  do you understand now???

I cannot wait for book 2.  This story says its ends on cliffhanger, but I didn’t think it was terrible.  Its more of a natural, expected continuation to the story.  One I will definitely be reading in March when its released.

Dungari Reclaim (Alien Alphas of Pilathna, #2)

Deserving and receiving are two very different things. This is the story of Holnar and Pasha. I absolutely love these characters! Holnar is Dungari and is Tuvari’s best friend. He did everything he could to help the girls in the harem and continues to help the others that have been saved. Holnar and Tuvari have joined the humans and are trying to help change the ways of their people. Holnar is a broken man. He has experienced love and loss on such a huge scale that he has promised to never love like that again. He still enjoys himself *wags eyebrows* but never allows himself to feel love so he can avoid the hurt he has felt on more than one occasion. Pasha is a broken woman. She has been brought up to hate the Dungari race. Her sister was in one of the harems and she is finding out about the horrors of the harems. When Holnar saves Pasha, sparks fly. They are so set in their ways that they try to deny their connection. When the two of them find themselves in a situation that could get them both killed, they find that they have to trust each other and slowly their walls come down. In the midst of the chaos a curveball is thrown and a past love of Pasha’s makes himself known. We get to know new characters and old ones but everyone’s trust is put on the line. Temperatures rise as the stakes get higher. Get ready for another crazy ride!

#Review – Dungari Rise (Alien Alphas of Pilathna #1) by Nikki Landis

Dungari Rise (Alien Alphas of Pilathna, #1)

Synika was his mate and he didn’t give a damn if she refused.

“You’re going to be my bride. I’ll make certain of it.”

Synika has hidden from the dominant alien race that conquered Earth 100 years ago in search of fertile females. She’s a strong-willed and headstrong woman who knows what she wants and it isn’t belonging to some Dungari male and auctioned off at the annual Choosing. When she meets Tuvari and their worlds collide, Synika is forced to confront her prejudices and decide if the Dungari male is her friend, foe . . . or maybe more.

Tuvari helped establish the first colony on Earth and works with the Dungari Bureau of Human Affairs. He’s a soldier and a warrior with a reputation, determined to keep his race from extinction. Strong, charismatic, confident, and sexy as sin he’s used to getting his way and exactly what he wants. Until he meets Synika. Tuvari has always believed his one true mate existed but could he dare to fall for a human?

Is it love, lust, or something more that draws the two together? In a world torn apart and ravaged by lies, can Tuvari and Synika move past the betrayal of a nation and find common ground?

Dungari Rise is first in a new exciting series of alien romances with heat, Alien Alphas of Pilathna.

In revenge and in love woman is more barbaric than man is.

This line….really hits home with this story. Hell hath no fury and all that. Synika is a terribly fierce and strong woman but one day she is taken by the barbaric Dungari warrior, Tuvari. She sees him as a monster and he sees her as his mate. Two completely different feelings toward each other and regarding the situation at hand. Synika has been taken against her will and she has been placed within Prince Varo’s harem. Tuvari believes she is his one true mate and the only way to protect her is to keep her with him in the harem that he watches over. The Dungari are a dying race and have justified their ways of taking human females for breeding, at any cost, to save their race. Synika is introduced to the harem and soon finds out the horrors that go on within the harem. Tuvari does his best to keep her safe, and the rest of the harem. The more that Synika and Tuvari get to know each other, they learn about each other’s past and their race’s past. This opens their eyes to each others issues and their feelings toward one another. Humans aren’t safe. Dungar aren’t safe. No one is safe. Will love prevail?

This has a distinct dystopian and Sci-fi feel. And the Dungari being part of the book add to the craziness of the story. There are times in the story with regard to the abuse that could be a trigger for some. The author does a great job of getting the point across and letting your imagination do the work, but can be difficult to read at times. There are lots of twist and turns and OMG moments that will keep you turning the pages. This is quite the tortuous tale of true love with many prejudices to overcome. I am looking forward to continuing the series.

TRIGGER WARNINGS

This is book 2 and you must read book 1 to follow the story.

Sometimes, Goodbye is the Only Way

Raider Black, Leader of the Novus Pack, will do anything for his people. His word is his bond no matter the sacrifice. Novus has always come first.

Theodora Morrissey is a gift from The Goddess to the Lycan world. It doesn’t take someone with her psychic abilities to see that her future is in jeopardy.

When Theo is discovered bloodied, beaten, violated, and broken, Black must find a way for her to be healed or his dream for their future will be destroyed.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Lord. I finished this book last night and I am still having a hard time trying to figure out how to word my review. This book is absolutely everything a person who loves paranormal will want and need to read. The emotional build of this story is so overwhelming I was in tears by 7% of the story and again I was bawling by 30%. There is so much that happens to Theo and Raider. SO much happens to the Novus Pack plus all the friends of the couple in this story. It is impossible to read the story and leave it without being utterly stunned by the genius writing and flow.

I KNEW going in this book would have hard and difficult content. Melanie kept apologizing to me for what I was about to read. But the journey the couple takes IS needed for them both to realize they need the other to complete themselves.

Raider is so selfless in worrying for his people first he does the hardest thing he has ever done by letting Theo go. Theo knows Raider and the Pack will not be ok unless she leaves so she makes the decision to leave for another Pack. These two make the ultimate sacrifice, putting aside their love and desire for the other for everyone one else so Raider can keep his promise to another Pack. When that sacrifice ends up costing Theo, she pays the highest price a women can pay, Raider and the pack come to aide THEIR Seer.

The couple deal with A LOT. They deal with the guilt they both have. They deal with the inability to express themselves for fear of what the other might be thinking or wanting. They deal with miscommunication over everything they have been through.

This book is absolutely about love and the price people pay. It’s about commitment and how you don’t turn your back on those you love when times get hard. It’s about loving people even when they don’t love themselves. It’s about FAMILY and how even when you fight, you never really turn your back on those you love.

The emotions run deep in this story. The laughs are hard to come by at times, but the bonds of love and family are throughout the story. I will say seeing the set up for Lore’s mate……my heart was going pitter patter. That mass murdering wolf, personal guard and tutor of Theo’s has a special place in my heart. Also seeing Tex will be having a story later on down the road too made me happy.

I cannot wait for another book in the series. I cannot wait for more from this pack and the characters. It makes me so happy to be privileged to get early copies even if life sucks and I have to wait 2 weeks to read it.

Ashes (The River Ash Pack, #1)

Ashes, The River Ash Pack Book 1 by Mary Martel

TRIGGER WARNINGS

Cordelia has never known anything but the safety of her fathers guarded compound where she’s lived her entire life. A life that, as the alphas daughter, has always been a privileged one, albeit an incredibly sheltered one.
Until one night, life as she knows it, is flipped entirely upside down when she’s promised to another alpha in order to buy safety for her father’s pack. This doesn’t exactly sit well for Cordelia seeing as she has different plans for her life, even if she doesn’t know what those plans are just yet. Out of fear of what she doesn’t want her life to become, she does the unthinkable and tells her father the one thing he’ll never tolerate from anyone in his pack, especially not his daughter. She tells him no.
As a result, Cordelia learns just what kind of depraved man and alpha her father is and is left a broken, bleeding mess because of it.
After finding kindness and compassion from two strange men who show up at the compound and help her when she is no longer capable of helping herself, Cordelia does the only thing she thinks she can do in order to survive and not be stuck in a world of abuse and misery.
She runs.
Unfortunately for Cordelia, she doesn’t make it very far before she finds herself in trouble again and at the mercy of another male with alpha tendencies. This alpha also comes with a brother by blood and one by choice.
The problem is, Cordelia’s not so sure she could ever find a place in a pack again after everything she’s survived. She won’t have long to figure it out though because, no matter the cost, her father is determined to find her and bring her home.

Warning – Due to certain sensitive sexual subject matter and abusive situations, this book may contain triggers for some people.
It’s also a Reverse Harem book.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.
Jesus lemme get my head straight after reading this book. If there are a few things you need to know about Mary and her stories here they are…..Her men love FIERCE, Her Women are NOT WEAK, The chemistry is crazy in all the right places, and there will be blood…LOL …but I am serious!!
Now if you read the trigger warning I will say it’s not AS ROUGH of a scene as I was expecting or have read in the past but friends, its hard. Its hard because how can someone who should love and protect you, do that to you!! Its also quickly done and done well so we feel for Cordelia, but mainly so we can understand the shape that Cal and Luca find her in…it was bad…….
Cal, Luca and Darius……they are all so special to Cordelia for their own reasons, but this book is owned by Darius. Dude, he was so scary and then so sweet but so fierce. I mean I don’t think I knew how menacing he was until we see him with his old pack….dang he was hawt!!!
Cal and Luca long for their time for Cordelia but understand and show true patience to be with their girl because make no bones about it, SHE. IS. THEIR. GIRL!
Seeing the story of the impending war due to everything that plays out in the book is making me on edge because the 4 of them need to be on the same page to stick together and to make sure no one feels left out of this unusual mating!!

“We can’t fight evolution, only ride it out and hope the ending is in our favor.” Ryder Mattis

As a former Navy Seal, beating the odds is something Ryder excels at. However, the world has changed and his transformation into a vampire gives survival a whole new meaning. If that isn’t enough to ruin his life, a plague unleashes utter destruction on humanity. He knows he has what it takes to protect those who survive even if they don’t like his rules. What he doesn’t count on is a female with stormy eyes and a will to live getting under his skin.

Kayla has lost everyone she loves to the red death. Surviving the plague is one thing, but a vow made to her dying father puts her under the protection of a predator. Surprised at how her body reacts to Ryder when he feeds, she has a hard choice to make. But when tragedy strikes and forces the vampire to give her his blood, she morphs into something no one could ever predict.

The new world doesn’t come with a handbook and when fate brands them as potential mates, they are not prepared. They can either battle each other, or band together in a fight for survival. The future holds no guarantees, but being alone might be worse than death.

This is a spin-off series and can be read as a standalone or, with the Eternally Mated series.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.
I know I saw this every time I read a paranormal but It’s my JAM!!! I love love love me some paranormal. I love shifters, vampires, demons, angels, and all the possible additions to a storyline. This book, which is a spin off series, was just what I needed and loved.
I am going to start by saying I have NOT read the Eternally Mated series. However, I will be rectifying that soon. I did not feel I missed anything or was lost at any point of the story. I think the storyline was filled in during this book about what happened in the other series. SHEW right!!!!
So this book is taking place during the end of the world essentially. Ryder and his group of Navy Seals are set to protect the last few remaining humans to help repopulate the world after The Red Death has destroyed everyone. He is one of the original vampires and he has turned a few of his trusted men into vampires to help get the job done. He only asks that females who do stay with them, help feed his men to keep them alive. Pretty decent trade off…surviving death for a few sips of your blood right???
Ryder is getting ready to leave when a sassy, pink haired beauty who is also a pain in his ass shows up and informs him he needs to protect her. Seems Ryder and her dad were Navy buddies. From the start of Kayla and Ryder meeting, the sparks and chemistry sizzle!! I mean they are so hilariously attracted and annoyed by the other it makes for great reading.
Kayla has lost everyone and is bound and determined to make it to this Ryder guy for protection. She surely did not plan on the attraction to the alpha male and his over the top protection of her.
Kayla and Ryder plus another couple soon find a strange mark that they have no clue what it means. Kayla and another soon find out they too have another secret about why they have survived the Red Death when everyone else has died.
On top of all the couple drama, we are dealing with rogue vampires, gross looking demons running amuck annnnd the portal to hell being opened to rid the Earth of humans in general….Yup LOTS happening in the story!!!
I can not wait to read the next story but I will be trying to get the other 6 books of the other series read ASAP too.

A romantic comedy about friendships, flirtations, and the elusive “Fantasm!”

Hi! I’m Miranda Blake and this is my story. Well, sort of. It’s more like a twisted fairytale, if you believe in them. Except there’s no beautiful, young princess with perky breasts, perfectly coiffed hair and a sassy attitude. I’m closing in on fifty, thirty pounds overweight according to Weight Watchers, and, after nursing two kids and that bitch, gravity, doing her job, I’m lucky the ladies don’t hit my knees. The gorgeous brown mane of hair is slightly frizzy from my ridiculous attempts to recapture my youth by dyeing the hell out of it. As for sassy attitude, well, it wasn’t so long ago that I was a doormat. And the charming prince who sweeps me off my feet into the life of my dreams? I have a dog called Prince, German Shepherd, who knocks me on my ass if I’m in the way when the doorbell rings. Does that count?

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

OMG this book was hilarious!!! I seriously LOVE the characters of the story. Miranda and her crew of best friends were so awesome to read. But the temptation tug of which brother, Reed or Ritter, was great too! Miranda’s friends are seriously the best people around. They lover her 110% and are going to do anything and everything to make sure she gets the HEA with a good guy this time around.

Miranda legit is told by her DB future ex its over. They are getting ready to leave for a cruise when he drops the bomb, she is being replaced by a younger woman and she is to get outta their family home ASAP. Miranda rallies her troops and they set to help her find herself and pick herself back up after 20 years of marriage.

What skills does an outta work housewife, stay at home mom have? Well she has enough to charm a playboy named Ritter into hooking her up with a job at his company. When she meets his very stuck up brother, Reed, she is confused as to how they can be so different.

As the story unfolds, we begin to see different sides to both men. Neither is who we thought they were. Is Ritter the good guy or a DB? Is Reed really an uptight jackass or just a guy protecting his heart????

I seriously snickered so many times reading this book and loved, loved, loved how it all played out.

***This book is a standalone and contains mature/graphic subject matter. For readers 18+***

I received this book from the author for an honest review.’

The blurb totally got me for this book. I have never read anything from this author, but the book was so ANTI-HERO that I had to read it. I mean the main dude was going to be totally broken and ruthless so what girl wouldn’t fall in love with him??? I am here to say this book did NOT disappoint at all. I was totally glued to my kindle and could not put it down. The story flowed so well and I was so engaged with each additional characters….gah I need more from this family of brothers!! I mean Ax …come one….Zane…what makes him tick but Asher…holy mother of hotness!!!

So the story starts and we are in picture perfect world. Asher is running home with flowers for his wife and pretty quickly it alllllll turns bad….like real bad. Then we see Asher sitting back and waiting…waiting…waiting. When he is out of prison, he and his brother begin the revenge of Lauren. Poor Charlee is the means to an end for Asher but when he falls for her spirit and fire…he soon realized, with the help of a few punches by his brother, maybe she is more than just the end but maybe she is the beginning he needs???

Charlee loves her papa, but she knows he is an evil man. She knows he is not a good man by any stretch of the imagination but he is her papa!! No matter what, she will love him even when he is a bit possessive of her and over-protective.

When Asher and Charlee meet, the chemistry is oooooooofffffff the charts!! Holy Cow!! The more they trust and respect the other they soon start to care which is totally crazy but then they soon start to lean and rely on the other….People!! This book was crazy good!!!

I LOVED the twist at the end and I cannot wait for more because like I said the brothers need a HEA as well!!

*** Book 1 of a new series, contains mature content ***

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Zombies make my heart so happy. When my blog got a request to share this books release, I was super excited and reached out to ask for a review copy. OMG am I so happy I did. This book hits all my zombie book expectations…..Zombie encounters, feisty heroine, alpha hero, and plot twists and turns galore! Man was I loving it and unable to put it down!!!

Our heroine, Bailee, is alone after the world went to crap for a year exactly when she stumbles into the hands of the local military group (and uber alpha bossy Sawyer) during a failed scavenger mission. The men know a secret about Bailee, but Sawyer is kinda interested in our feisty girl and wont follow orders just yet to turn her over to the main operations.

We see a lot of push and pull between Saw and Bailee which creates a lot of chemistry!!! But what also is amazing to read, the ZOMBIE ATTACKS!! Yes folks there are a lot of zombies in the book and many different kinds of zombies….this totally made my heart happy. We’ve got slow zombies. We’ve got fast zombies. We’ve got tracker zombies!!? Yikes!!

The books momentum and flow were great for reading. I mean the group was always under attack or in conflict, so it was very fast paced, and action packed!!

My ONLY issue with the book….it seems to flip from 3rd POV to 1st POV through the story. At first, I thought I was a weirdo and reading it wrong, but I found it a few times in the story. I am not a fan of 3rd POV so it took me out of the reading element and then it would drop you back in to 1st POV. Honestly this small issue will not stop me from reading the other books in the continuing series because after the way the story ended I NEED to know what happens to our team of misfits.
