#REVIEW – Mister Manhattan by Alexandria Sure

My Thursday afternoon meeting was a no show. Imagine my surprise when a drenched, flustered brunette slipped into the booth across from me, acting like she was supposed to be there.

When she slipped back out with a snappy goodbye, I never thought I’d see her again.

Until I walked into my Friday morning meeting.

At first, I didn’t recognize her—she was dry this time. But from the look on her face, she recognized me.

When she gave the worst pitch I’ve ever sat through, I thought my boss, and mentor, was going to show her the door—except he accepts the proposal and tells me we have to work together.

I didn’t anticipate I would like her, let alone be interested in her. Sure, she was hot and sassy.

But something about her rubbed me the wrong way.

And yet I couldn’t stop thinking about her.

So, when she leaves the room and her phone chimes with a new text, I knew I wasn’t supposed to look.

I also knew I wasn’t supposed to cancel her date for later that evening.

And I definitely knew I wasn’t supposed to delete the entire exchange, so she had no idea what I’d done.

But I did. And then I showed up at the restaurant, pretending like this was all a big coincidence.

When the date is over, I want more. I need more.

We start pretend-dating because she needs practice, and I tell myself, New York’s most eligible billionaire bachelor, that this is just a bit of fun.

What could possibly go wrong?

This book. Ugh, I loved it so much! It’s sweet, funny and definitely what I needed. With everything going on in the world, this book took me out of the craziness of life, even if it was just for a couple of hours.
Jurnee (I love this name by the way) was in way over her head when she decided to move from Michigan to New York to set up a café. I totally understood her fear. New York is a whole other world compared to most cities. I loved how she wasn’t into pop culture or didn’t google people first. She was down to earth and definitely someone I could be friends with. She was real.
Anderson is definitely a hero you could fall in love with. He was patient with Jurnee and fell for her fast.
While they had an unexpected encounter originally after Jurnee thought he was someone else, feelings surfaced neither of them expected to have.
Although I haven’t read the rest of the books in this world or even if the originals, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. Alexandria wrote it in such a way, that it made me want to go back and read the others so I could see how Graham and Soraya met. I also like Anderson’s friends and would love to see them get their own stories as well.
This is by far Alexandria’s best work to date and I’m honoured she let me read an early copy!

#WOTR21 #CoWrite #Zombies #RH #Audio – Zombie Queen by Brandy Slaven and Mary Martel, Narrators: Kelley Huston, Jeffrey Kafer

The beginning…
The beginning is always the best place to start when reflecting on what has been.
Thinking back on it, my life had been perfect.
Middle class girl in high school with a happy home life.
My life had been full of nothing but promise.
Life was good.
Everything was great.
And then my whole world went to shit. In one day.
The disease came first.
Then the dead.
It was a fight for my life every single day from the start. But I was different from all the rest.
I had heard my mother’s screams while watching my sister become one with the undead. All the while feeling like there was absolutely nothing I could do to help them.
It killed me.
What’s more, it changed me.
I did everything I possibly could to survive on my own.
And then I learned how to survive with others.
By being their Queen.
Their Zombie Queen.
And by being the most feared woman they ever came in contact with.

This is a WhyChoose novel full of zombies, a sword wielding badass chick, and an army of dudes.
Recommended age 17+ due to content and language.

Audible

I received this audio book from the author for an honest review.

I have to say when I saw Jeffrey was a narrator, My heart SANG!! he narrates The Protectors by Teresa Gabelman and he MAKES IT!!! Kelley was a new voice for me. I enjoyed her voicing our heroine and thought she did a better job as the story moved along…maybe became more comfortable in the “voice” of Emerald??

I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing and crazy good this story is.  The first chapter will have you on the edge of your seat.  My heart was in my throat listening to Emerald tell you about the day everything changed for her.  If that chapter does not keep you totally enthralled, then when you hear the description of the life and surroundings Emerald has…I felt my skin crawling because it was so tense and so claustrophobic.  I was dying but in heaven dying!!  It was totally a good thing!

This book is so fast paced at times with so much action and then other times we are feeling the despair and fear of Emerald.  We know its been 16 months and we know she is sad, lonely and scared.  When the Sam appears I admin I was scared outta my mind because women aren’t treated the best in these worlds and Emerald knows this first-hand.  As the other guys start to show Emerald they are not the bad guys and can be trusted, we see her open up and hope beyond hope she had a safe place.  A Family to call her own.  Complete with a crazy Granny!!

The story is a lot of interpersonal relationships and dealing with the all the men and one Emerald.  But when Emerald makes some proclamations, I was like GET IT GIRL!!!  When our family is starting to come together and starting to find a rhythm, chaos finds them and its not even the crazy girl or the wild man who bring it home.

I loved the action and loyalty this family shows one another.  But sweet Baby Jesus if you ladies don’t write another book, Imma be broken.  I need some more time with some of the guys and Emerald.

#wotr #attendingauthor #partofaseries Perfected by You (Torn Series 3) by J.M. Walker

Releasing control is relief… I was warned about men like Brett Maclean. He was dark and thrilling, intense and controlling. And he captivated me from the very start. He unleashed something inside of me like no other. His bad rep and troubled past drew me to him like gasoline feeding a flame. With just one taste, I felt the danger in him, the uncontrollable power that left me breathless. The passion consumed me. Fast and hard. Temptation couldn’t guard my heart. I should have known a man of such raw and wild desires came with competition

I bought this book and this my honest opinion

Finally we get to be in the mind of Brett. To see how this alpha male works and what makes him ticked. Brett is still working through his problems with his past and trying not to let his nightmares take over his life and trying not to let them hurt Evvie when he is overtaken with the demons that haunt him in them. With the help of his wife and therapist Brett still is hanging on by a thread he wants to stay in control but is slowly letting Evvie help him take some of that control over in his life.

#wotr #attendingauthor #partofaseries Revealed by You (Torn Series 2) by J.M. Walker

The sharp edge of love… Brett MacLean was possessive. Even more since I became his. He was my desire…my ultimate pleasure…he was mine. As each day passed, he revealed a part of himself that had lain dormant. A broken childhood. A troubled man. One I was determined to help. After months together, I thought I knew him. But soon realized I was wrong. His dark secrets were only the beginning. The past was more disturbing than I ever could have fathomed. His deep seeded need for me came with a price that could have consequences. I needed him just as much. Because of this, we would be tested. My greatest fear was that it would take us beyond the limits of our love.

I bought this book and this my honest opinion

The steamy relationship just keeps getting hotter between Evvie and Brett. But with the recent return of Brett’s mother who ruined his life as a child, things just keep getting worst. It’s like the universe is betting everything against them and throwing everything it has at them to get them to fail. But Evvie isn’t going to give up on them and is going to try everything she can to help Brett keep the demons away in a healthy manner and it might just help her the process. Giving everything to each other is all the can do to keep their sanity and keep each other safe, new clubs being opened together, and officially moving together is just the start for these two and prove just how far they will go through for each other. Another great story the raw hat passion just makes your inside get all warm and makes you want what they have well the good parts anyways.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book for an honest review by the author.

Oh Imma!! Oh hot boyfriends!!  LOL  If you haven’t read the novella “ Loves Little Surprises” then this is a great story for you!!!  For people like Me who met Imma and her 5 sexy as hell mens…this book was what happened IN BETWEEN the novella.

Ok long of the short of it, Imma (in the novella) went on vacation and shacked up with these guys when the house was double booked.  The guys and Imma formed an instant bond of love and belonging.  The story picks up when Imma realizes this might not work annnnd now she is knocked up.

But

  1. Will the guys be ok with it?
  2. Who is the baby daddy?
  3. Will there be an issue with one being the baby daddy and the others not being the baby daddy?

So many questions cause our lonely girl to breaks and ruuuuuuns.  She cuts the guys out of her life and tries to rebuild.  She gets a job and moves into her own place while the guys are starting to fracture and fall apart without their girl.

When one of the guys plots with another to bring her home, everything esems better buuuuut drama ensues.  Can they make it work?  Can they handle her pregnancy?  Can they figure out a family?

This book was a great bit of “More” for me since I loved the novella but begged for a longer story.

Now I gotta tell ya, Imma’s friends are HILARIOUS and I and I am dying for their books.  Those ladies are Bat Shit Crazy in the best kinda friend way.

But my favorite part was the cameo of Kendall and her guys….sigh….a reread might be in order!!!

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I loved this anti-love book club concept really get a bunch of ladies together and talk about how unrealistic the books are compared to real life.  Let me tell you these ladies are not love experts by any means. They are a melting pot of personalities.

First up is Imma who lost her sister and is dealing with her Mom and Dad being over critical of her.  She still lives at home and doesn’t have a job. She finds out that she is pregnant but not sure who the dad is because of a fling with 5 guys she met when a vacation took a minor detour.  Imma decides she needs to figure things out on her own.  She is afraid of what the guys will say and not knowing who the dad is she decides to ghost them.

All the guys are miserable that Im has left them high and dry with no word on why. That is until Wes finds her and confronts her. This was such a great homecoming for the guys and Im.  I really would like to know more about all Imma’s men because I fell in love with everyone of them. I do believe Thatcher is my favorite. He was the one that took the longest to come around when Imma returned.

I loved these guys I do wish I could have seen where their relationship began at the cabin. Let’s not forget the anti-love book club ladies.  I want to be in their book club and I cannot wait to learn about all of them.  I’m telling you these ladies have so much they are hiding from one another.  I liked the start of this series and cannot wait for more.

She begins to realize the greedy and destructive nature of humanity and the possibility that neither side is righteous, and both are corrupted by power.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

The story starts out with a bang and the action continues clear to the end of the book. Tessa lives in a post apoc world on a ravaged earth where everyone is just trying to survive. The basic humans try to do their part and lay low so as not to bring down the wrath of the Evos, the superhumans, who stopped taking orders from us lowly humans a long time ago. Tessa is pushed to the brink when an Evo attacks her school and her sister is missing. She and her best friends are put in the middle of a fight trying to save her sister and Tessa finds she may have some abilities of her own. She then gets to meet some other Evos who are trying to bring the bad Evos down so that everyone can live in harmony. She feels that she is being manipulated for her powers and this causes her to struggle with figuring out where she belongs in this crazy new world.

The story was written well with good world building and a great story line. There is also the political component that lurks in the midst of the story. Each side thinks they are right and Tessa has to figure out where she belongs or if she tries to run from them both. There were quite a few typos in the book and some areas were a little difficult to read because of this. Overall the story was great and definitely has me intrigued. A solid 4 stars.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book for an honest review by the author.

So I finished this book and I have to say I sat on it for a bit before writing my review.  My thoughts were all over the place.

Randi…she is a HOT MESS!!  I mean she has 2 kids, 2 baby daddies, a F*&^ Buddy, Assistant manager of a video store, trying to go to school, parents who make her feel bad, strapped for cash, an abusive ex…..need I go on?  She is literally hanging on by a thread.  When she gets a call that will change her life.  Her daughter, Sarah, in 6th grade has “Changed”.  Randi feels terrible being wrapped up in her own head and life she didn’t notice this about her daughter.  Randi enrolls Sarah in therapy but still had massive guilt.  She begins to question her own abilities to be a good mother.  Hasn’t every mother questioned themselves?  Hasn’t every mother done what they thought was for the best to then think they messed up?  Well, that is Randi.  She is living a controlled chaos of a life, but everything is starting to fall apart.

Justin is a player and the perfect distraction for Randi.  She knows the kids like him, and they aren’t exclusive, by any means, but he was something for HER.  When things with Sarah happen Randi and Justin call it quits but she is sad by the loss.  When Justin pops back in we see maybe there is more to him then just a good time guy.  Could he want more?  But like I said Randi is a mess and makes stupid choices and has lots of regrets.

When things come to light about her daughter we see more guilt and pain. But we see Sarah opening up.  Which as a mom isn’t that what we want?  To remove the pain from our child??  To help our kiddos be the best of them??

If you’re a fan of Jade’s books I think you will see this is a departure from her regular writing. It’s a bit more of the inner conflict we, as women, moms, lovers, etc feel when life is pulling us in every direction but the one we want to take.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

Received a copy of this book for an honest review.

my head is spinning after this one. Not a typical Jade book but I have to say I was not sure what was going to happen in this book.

Randy is a hot mess express mom. She’s single mom of two, a son in elementary and a daughter in sixth grade in middle School, and not handling things well. Randy works full-time raising the kids and goes to college. Randy has a best friend/f-buddy, Justin. Things are going on with Randy daughter that is pulling most of her attention. She leans on Justin for support but not too much because he has commitments issues himself. Randy breaks things off with Justin when Sarah starts acting out. When Randy realizes she needs Justin to talk to we start to see a new side of him.

My heart goes out to Randy and her daughter when we find out what Sarah is going through. This has a true life feel to it. Single mom holding on by a thread only to realize it’s unraveling at the other end too.  It’s a great thing when Sarah opens up and Randy finds out what’s going on. I like that Randy comes to a realization that her parents only want the same thing for her that she wants for Sarah.

1. Imagine 2. Play some music 3. Write 4. Blow readers away 5. Repeat

This is a fast read that has a little bit of everything! Josie was about to get married but her fiance died right before the wedding. She is mourning the death of her fiance’ when strange things start happening to her. Turns out her house is haunted and the medium she calls is the stripper who gave her a lap dance at her bachelorette party! Lets see, we have a stripper medium, a dead fiance’, a haunted house, and great friends…what else do you need for this story?!  It is a well developed story with great chemistry between all the characters. Even with a death in the story, it is a sweet and fun read. Reading this in one sitting was no problem at all. It definitely will keep your attention to the last page. I look forward to reading more in this series.

When truth shines a light, beware of the shadows

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Oh, the suspense! This whole series has been crazy intense. I really enjoy how this story followed Lila and Cody into adulthood. In the last book they were the best of friends and I hoped that they would both continue together and be happy. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. The world is full of all types of evil. People in general are crazy and the Sinclair’s put the icing on the cake! Unfortunately the turmoil that the Sinclair’s started is still in full swing. Lila is an attorney now, and Cody is an IT guru. They are both continuing to work against The Order with characters from the past books from this series. People are getting murdered, lives are being threatened, and we have to go back to some of our old ways in order to stop them. The lies and deceit have not stopped and are intricately woven throughout this rollercoaster of a story. There are so many moving parts that you don’t know if you need to look left or right. And in the midst of the insanity, Lila and Cody are finding each other again (swoon). One of my favorite things about this series is that it is so unpredictable, and this one is no exception. An old enemy surfaces and will make your jaw drop. Rooting for our favorite heroes will keep you on your toes as you turn each suspenseful page and will keep your heart pounding all the way to the end. Order of Truth was the perfect finish to this series. Bravo!
