Holding Fast (A Love and Order Novel) by Jeanine Binder

synopsis

Been there, done that – there wasn’t much that Eli Walker hadn’t experienced as a cop. Even working in one of the better precincts in New York City didn’t help dispel the depravity he saw on a daily basis. It was all part and parcel of his mantra of living life in the now, not worrying about the future.
And especially with women. No strings, no attachments, and he made that perfectly clear before he ever bedded them. Relationships were not on his agenda – not now, not anytime in the near future. Women flocked to him and he could take his pick; himself exiting the encounter with what he’d wanted and leaving them aching for more, left dreaming of his curly locks and bronze body.
A chance encounter pulling a mugger off of a woman changed his whole world. She was blonde and beautiful – Eli didn’t care about any of the interracial politics that would surround any serious relationship. He just knew he had to have Ainsley, like an alcoholic needs his next drink. This was all new territory for Eli and could he stay to the path, all the way to its end? Or would she be like all the others in his life .

kristis review

I received a copy of this book for a honest review

This is A Love and Order Novel and can be read as a standalone. I have not read any of the others in this series and I wasn’t lost when it read this one.
Eli Walker is a detective for NYPD when he is called to Annalise Bernett’s family shop for a robbery and assault.
From what I can gather Eli isn’t a man whore he just isn’t looking for a relationship and isn’t one to turn down want is offered. No one woman has really snagged his attention, until Annalise who is the total opposite of the women he has been with.
Annalise isn’t looking for a relationship either having gotten out of a abusive one two years ago, but she can’t stop thinking about the handsome Detective Walker.
Since Eli can’t stop thinking about her either he just sucks it up and asks her out.
These two fit together so well, he is the exact opposite of her ex and makes her feel safe, even if he is bossy, and she is the exact opposite in that she’s not aggressive and she makes him feel level headed and calm.
Even though they fit together they have things going against them, they are a mixed race couple and even though it’s 2016 there are still people out there that give them crap about it and Annalise’s ex is stalking her.
I enjoying getting to see Eli in is element as a police officer with the cases that he works and seeing Annalise in her element as a writer when we see her having to dealing with traveling for book signings.
The fear that Annalise feels when her ex has her and the pain that she and Eli feel in the hospital is so real it brought tears to my eyes!!
I will say it again, these two belong together!! He is her savior and she is the calm in his storm.

#REVIEW – The Shadows by J.R. Ward

51ovyZzv+iL._SX308_BO1,204,203,200_

The #1 New York Times bestselling author returns to the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood as two brothers bound by more than blood fight to change a brutal destiny.

Sold by his parents to the Queen of the s’Hisbe as a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer for years. On the run from a destiny of sexual servitude, he’s never been able to rely on anyone…except for his brother, iAm.

iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from self-destructing—and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Selena enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around…but by then, it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due, and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating.

Now Trez must decide whether to endanger himself and others—or abandon the female he loves. When tragedy strikes and changes everything, iAm, in the name of brotherly love, is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice….

Twinsie Jo’s Review:

My heart is heavy. My heart is full. But…heavy. Oh gosh the feels. So going into this story we know that Selena is sick. We all have hopes of her making it and spending the rest of eternity with Trez right? I guess you need to read to find out what actually happens. It makes sense. Everything works out. Some people were surprised and maybe even mad but I get it. Is that a big enough hint for you? That’s all I’m saying. If you haven’t started this series but love paranormal romance, you really should read these books. I love them. Most of the Twinsie Girls love them as well. That’s also how some of us “met”.

I think out of this whole book, iAm’s happy is my favourite part. That’s all I’m saying over that as well.

I loved seeing everyone. We got more info into Rhage and Mary, getting ready for The Beast which just came out yesterday. Hopefully it won’t take me another year. Lol.

As always, I think the only issues I have with these later books is how many POV’s there are. I get why it happens but I always find that I want to skip ahead to get to the main couple. I’m sure I’m not the only one. But all in all, I of course love this story and look forward to The Beast.

kristis review

Received this book for a honest review

So, Annisa is your average small town high schooler; captain of the cheerleaders, boyfriend is the hunky captain of the football team. Nothing is going to change the fact that they’ve been best friends since they were kids and boyfriend and girlfriend for years, they love each other.
Nothing until the new kids move in next door.
Chase and his little sister Penelope know no one in town and Annisa goes over to introduce herself and invite them to a end of the summer party to get to know the other kids.
Right away there is something that draws her to Chase and she feels as if she has known Penelope forever.
Her boyfriend, Landon, starts acting very possessive when Chase is around and she calls him on it. Torn she has to choose between her best friend and this crazy pull she feels around Chase, her heart and soul tell her to pick Chase.
Omg, who knew the crap was gonna hit the fan when she makes her choice!!
Witches are real, she and her family are witches. Also, Chase, Penelope, Landon, and they’re families are as well!! Witches powers are from the soul thus when they die they do not go to heaven or hell, but rather a special place just for them until their souls are reincarnated in new bodies.
There’s a good reason she had to choose and a good reason why these four witches are drawn to each other.
The four of them aren’t just ordinary witches they are the most powerful of all and the witch council is trying to kill them!!
I really enjoyed the new take on witches!! Everyone has their own take on them and this is a good one.
Reading about the group made me feel like a teenager again, I wish I had those powers to use when someone was after my man. Lol!!
I’ve told my teenage daughter about the book, I’ve yet to let her read it though due to the fact o don’t wanna give up my Kindle!!
Honestly, I really enjoyed it and the feeling of being young again that Shanklin’s writing brought.
Buy your copy now to find out the reason the council wants them dead and why Annisa had to choose, I don’t wanna give everything away!!
Can’t wait to read book 2!

Twinsie Deb’s Review

The One for Me by Sydney Landon
Mark & Crystal
MAKE THE LEAP FROM HONDA TO LAMBORGHINI
5 Stars

So this installment into the Danver’s menagerie is a little different than the rest. Wanna know why? It’s hotter, it’s sexier, and holy freaking hell is it ever dirty! I have love this series from get-go. Sydney’s books are always so well rounded… Sexy alpha, head-strong female, a dilemma, a solution, and a kickass climax. I’m not gonna sit here and blow smoke up your ass, if you’re checking this book out it’s because you already love Sydney like I do. What I will do is tell you right from the start you’ll be captivated with Mark DeSanto and his jet black hair and Crystal Webber and her quirky banter! Good luck not laughing out loud or wiping tears away!

Crystal comes from a bizarre home. We met her mother back in another book, the title escapes me at the moment, but that woman was a total jerkface back then and believe me you she doesn’t get any better in this one. Crystal struggles to please her Mother, but can never quite get there. She makes some dreadful decision based on shit other people want and finds herself in some pretty sticky situations. When an illness lands her in Mark DeSanto’s life, you can bet your ass that things are going to change.

Mark’s life has been anything but simple and he likes it that way. He lives life on the edge. Different women grace his arm and bed regularly. His business comes first and he’s a very hands on kind of guy. His childhood wasn’t much better than Crystals. His parents pretty much ignored him. Drinking and partying their life away on his dime. When he meets Crystal, well, he can’t quite figure out why he’s so compelled to take care of her or why he can’t stop thinking about her or why the thought of her without him doesn’t seem to be an option. Just talking about this is putting the goofiest damn smile on my face.

The supporting character cast is enormous as usual. All the chickies, all the Danver’s men, and those miserable parents on both sides. I really wanted to beat the crap outta of those parents. I mean who really treats their kids or family that way? Why would Mark or Crystal put up with it for so long? Damn Sydney, you’re killing me. One character that stands out to me is Denny, Mark’s cousin and driver. This guy will have you rolling on the floor, laughing your ass off. Very cool dude!

I really enjoyed this one. I even think this may be my favorite Danvers novel. The pacing kept me enthralled and never left me wanting to skip around. The dialogue flowed with efficiency and so much stinking humor I must have highlighted like an insane amount of the banter! Those “tweets” back and fourth were superb! The tension was a great build and that climax, Wowza! I loved it immensely.

TWINSIE DEB’S REVIEW

Asking for More by Lilah Pace
Jonah & Vivienne Continued…
EH, IT’S SHORT AND OK. NOTHING NEW THOUGH
3.5 STARS

So, this is just a little novella that covers about the span of a week in the trials and tribulations of Jonah and Vivienne. You don’t really discover too much more than you already knew, but you do get to explore Jonah’s sister a little bit.

As far as Jonah and Viv go, they are still up to their “play” frolics and still have a fascination with that taboo subject! Although Viv get’s hurt AFTER one of their “play” sessions, whiney Jonah seems to get hung up on it a little too long especially since it was not even close to being his fault, but oh well! I think he’s more fucked up than we really know!

Viv is still a very carefree, happy-go-lucky kind of gal and I appreciate that about her. I mean if we had two head cases to deal with I think I might go mental. She sticks pretty close to Jonah, but in my opinion, not for herself, but for him. He seems to need that and her to stay on the right path.

Now Rebecca , Jonah’s sister is pretty damn cool. She lives in Central America by herself and doing fairly well. She’s spunky, witty, and about as open as Jonah… lol! I can’t help but wonder if there might be a longer story there. We’ll see!

So, it’s short, it’s fast, and it’s not really anything new besides more on the sister. The pacing is good, the storyline predictable, and the dialogue somewhat natural. I liked it, but did not love it!

kristis review

I received a copy for a honest review

5 years has past since the events in the second book. During those years the Elementals and Violet have been looking for a way to end Quint when he returns and doing their duties to the earth and it’s inhabitants.
I had felt that Nodin in the past books, while not cold and standoffish, to have a guarded way about him and the book tells us the reason for that.
We get to see what made shaped this great Elemental into what he has become, a man who does his duty and while he loves his family that is all he loves, though he does feel compassion for the humans.
Jacobs shows a whole other side to Nodin by introducing him to Kamali. Kamali is a blind woman of that can see only the aura around people until she meets Nodin, him she can see fully. He has put off meeting her for all this time, though she is part of the plan to get rid of Quint, to give Violet and Flint more time together in case the plan fails.
Kamali isn’t such a strong woman, yet there is a softness, a purity even though she has been through so much.
We are introduced to some new characters: Maize, Kamali’s companion and seeing eye dog, Adler, her uncle who uses her gifts for his own gain, and Raven, her evil Aunt she never knew about until now who has gifts of her own.
I think what is conveyed in this story is that there is no escaping destiny. Whether your destined to be with a certain person, destined to die, or destined to be something more it will happen, destiny always finds a way.
Nodin and Kamali are wonderful together, she gives him what he has been missing and he gives her all the love and support she needs.
I hope Jacobs gives us one more book, Death needs his story told and I hope to see more from the Elementals and Mother Nature.

Melinda's Review

This is a quick novella with more of Tessie and Shooter. Tessie and Shooter are planning their wedding and although Tessie has lived her entire life struggling trying to make ends meet now she is finding herself with new kinds of struggles. Shooter wants her to plan the wedding of her dreams no matter the cost and this is not something she is use to. He wants her happy and ultimately his.

I enjoyed Eternal Ride even loved the wedding. I really loved seeing the bond grow between Axel and the men in his life. Being able to see Ice and Brooke was special too. This was a great addition to the series and loved seeing a little more of Shooter and Tessie. Now I’m on to the next ride Rex is next.

#WOTR -Review: Merciless Ride (The Hellions Ride #3) by Chelsea Camaron

synopsisMercy is no friend of mine. Karma, she has yet to show kindness to me.

The hits just keep on coming for Tessie Marie Harlow. She has never had an easy life. Her mom disabled, her dad long gone, and a single mom raising a rambunctious little boy, that’s Tessie’s world.

Her childhood aspirations to be a nurse long since disappeared after a college spring fling both blessed and burdened her with a baby boy. Dropping out of school, she returns to her hometown and begins to settle in. Getting the only job she could as a bartender she spends her days caring for her son and nights serving the Hellions Motorcycle Club and their affiliates.

Tired of waiting for Rex to grow up, she’s faced with the bane existence of her life until one night changes everything. In the darkest hour of her merciless ride through life, she’s saved by a quiet, laid back Hellion.

Andy ‘Shooter’ Jenkins has always been around. Too wrapped in Rex she has never really noticed him before. He has never been loud or known to have the girls hanging all over him. He is a mystery. A chance encounter brings him to her rescue not once but twice.

The Desert Ghosts Motorcycle Club are in town and bring their own brand of chaos right to Tessie’s door. Forced into her day to day life, Shooter is doing everything he can to shelter and protect her as lines are crossed and a war between two clubs begins.

Secrets revealed putting two brothers in the Hellions Motorcycle Club at a serious crossroads in their lives.

This is not a ride for pleasure. This is not a ride for safety. This is not a ride for love. This is a ride for endurance. Mercy has never once shined her grace down for these two, but in the midst of the danger and lies can they learn to rely on one another and ride it out together?

*This book contains violence, rape, adult content and language and is not suitable for readers under the age of 18*

TBRGoodreads

Melinda's Review

And the Ride continues this one is about Tessie and Shooter. Tessie has had one bad blow after another but not matter what she gets up dust herself off and keeps going. She has to because her son and mother depend on her. She has had her eye on Rex for a long time but he never promised her tomorrow or forever and now she is done. He is never there for her when she needs him. Little does Rex know when he sends Shooter to help Tessie one night what he has started?

There is a pattern that begins Tessie’s car breaks down she needs Rex but nope he sends Shooter, things go down at the bar again not Rex that’s there but Shooter, and when someone needs to step up for Tessie to help protect her again NOT Rex but Shooter. This also causes tension between the brothers all while war is brewing between two clubs. I have to say up tell this point liked Rex but now not so sure.

Tessie and Shooter are forced together so Tessie has protection. Tessie is against this she has her mother and son to think of and does not want to disrupt their routine. If she wants the Hellions protections she has to suck it up and do as they say. Now that things heat up between Shooter and Tessie and Shooter is forced to keep a secret from Rex the tension between the brothers intensifies. Can their relationship handle this kind of trust issue or will it be severed?

This series gets better and better the more I read of it. The characters and the situations they find themselves in are gut wrenching at times and my heart goes out to them. I want to slap them or hug them sometime both at the same time. The thing is I am falling in love with the females as much as the males their stories have so much depth and heart I fell like they are my BFF’s. I’m off to the read the next one which is a novella about Tessie and Shooter so excited to be able to read more of this couple. Then after that is Rex whom I really hope Chelsea can turn him around for me because right now I’m just not sure.

Havoc Teaser 2

Melinda’s Review:

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I read Destined Havoc and loved Havoc and Carla. When I saw this was the rest of their story I was ecstatic and so ready to get my hands on it. I have to say I loved Havoc before but now I love him more.

Carla sees Havoc at a bar and immediately is drawn to him she knows he is a biker and a part of Storm. They have a one night stand that turns into a “two night” stand as Carla calls it. Then it starts to be so much more. They are opposites that come together like a magnet. Only problem is Havoc is a nomad and travels never staying in one place and Carla has school, a job and family.

The way Havoc loves Carla and tells her even though she finds out she is not his “type” had me falling for him more. The way Carla tossed out the sass at him was even better kept him on his toes. Carla is a strong woman she may have some insecurities when it comes to men but she can stand up for herself and others if she feels they are being treated unfairly. She refuses to back down no matter who she is facing, doesn’t matter if it is her brother, teachers, or customers. The banter and chemistry between Havoc and Carla is off the charts.

I so enjoyed reading more of Havoc and Carla. Carla is hell on wheels if something needs to be said she will say it and in Carla sass fashion. I also like that she wasn’t perfect and totally strong as nails but had some insecurities. What can I say about Havoc he had two sides his hot sexy alpha biker get the job done no matter what the cost for the club and then there was the protective loving side only shown to Carla. Oh and can I also say I loved Havoc’s sister and the back and forth between him and her, priceless sibling love. Havoc’s dad he was great too had just a filthy mouth as Havoc. Guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree with these two.

Even though this is part of the Storm series it can be read as a standalone. If you have never read a Nina Levine book I suggest this one Havoc and Carla one of my favorites. Plus you get a glimpse of a few of the other Storm Guys. I cannot wait for the next Storm MC.

Here are a few of my favorites:

“And, I don’t fuckin’ shoot for heaven. I bring it to your goddamn door,”

She invaded every fucking sense of mine until I didn’t know right from wrong, up from down, red from fucking blue.

“You know what I realised, Kelly? I fuckin’ realised just this week that the reason I didn’t have a woman was because my compass was all out of fuckin’ whack. It was leading me to the wrong type. Thank Christ I made a pit stop one night in a bar I made a habit of never visiting. I found my type all right and she’s a fuckin’ angel. Now step the fuck back so I can close this goddamn door and go and show my woman how fuckin’ thankful I am that you’re a greedy bitch who decided I wasn’t good enough for her.”

“I’m sure about that because you have the dirtiest mouth and mind of any woman I’ve ever met. It’s like you were made for me and if that’s the case, then I know the shit that runs through your mind.”

Excerpt

As I stepped through the bathroom doorway however, I found her. She was in the bath, plugged into her music with her eyes closed and her head resting on the edge of the bath.
I stopped and leaned against the wall with my arms folded across my chest. Watching her, my gaze travelled the length of her body. In the short time I’d known her, my appreciation of her body had grown. Where small tits hadn’t turned me on a month ago, I couldn’t get enough of hers.
Never letting me down, my dick grew hard while I took in her beauty.
“Fuck,” I muttered under my breath as I contemplated the wisdom of fucking her again.
I wanted to.
Hell, I fucking needed to.
She’s a brother’s sister for fuck’s sake.
I’d spent the last few hours going over and over that fact in my mind. My decision had been to head back to the motel, sleep on the couch and never taste her pussy again.
I hadn’t factored in having her naked body on display the minute I returned.
Shit.
“How long are you going to stand there staring at me?” she asked as she cracked an eye open to look at me.
“Until you get out and let me fuck you.” Both her eyes had opened and I pinned my gaze to hers, not letting her go.
Her eyebrows lifted. “I thought you were done with me.”
“Turns out I’m not.”
She stood and reached for her towel before stepping out. Continuing to hold my gaze, she slowly dried herself off.
Teasing the fuck out of my dick.
I fought the desire to reach out and rip the towel from her hands. My carefully constructed self-control was being tested and I knew it wouldn’t be long until I caved and took what I wanted.
Finally – finally – she finished drying off and closed the distance between us. “What if I’m done with you?” I knew she was full of shit by the breathless tone she used and the way her body leaned just that little bit too close to mine. It was like she was trying to hold herself back, but her body had a mind of its own and couldn’t stay away.
I lifted a brow. “Are you?”
“I should be. After the way you’ve been treating me, I really should be.” Still all breathy.
Still in this with me.
I unfolded my arms so I could curl my hand around her neck. Gripping her there, I said, “Yeah, you should be, but you’re not.”
I feel the same way.
With our faces so close that her breaths whispered across my skin, we stared at each other for a long time. The still air in the tiny bathroom consumed our apprehension piece by piece until all that was left was an unrelenting need to satisfy our hunger.
At the first sign of her softening, I tightened my hold on her neck and pulled her mouth to mine. She didn’t hesitate and a second later our bodies pressed together as hard as our mouths did.
The smell of her arousal overwhelmed me and I let her neck go so I could slide my hands around her ass and lift her. Turning, I held her up against the wall and groaned as she wrapped her legs around me. The urge to drive my cock as hard and fast as I could into her sweet cunt threatened to take over as the only thought in my mind, and I took a moment to work through that and get myself under control.
Resting my forehead against hers, I focused on my breathing while I gave myself a talking to.
Focus.
You’ve got this.
You’ve fucking done this enough times to know how to control yourself.
But I hadn’t.
I’d never fucked a woman like Carla.
Had never been with a woman who stole my control the way she did.
She invaded every fucking sense of mine until I didn’t know right from wrong, up from down, red from fucking blue.
“Havoc.”
My head snapped up and I found her staring at me.
Unsure.
“Are you okay?” she asked, lines creasing her forehead as she tilted her head, frowning at me.
I stepped back and let her go. “I need to slow this shit down.”
She stood naked in front of me with an expression on her face that seemed to be half confusion and half frustration. “What does that mean?”
I wasn’t sure I even knew.
“It means I want you sitting cross legged in the middle of the bed waiting for me while I take a minute,” I bit out. My head was so damn full I thought it might actually explode.
Too many thoughts.
Too many fucking feelings.
I jerked my chin at her and snapped, “Go.”
Her eyes widened a fraction and I pushed my breaths out while waiting for her to submit. When she didn’t, I growled, “Carla, I need you to go and sit on the bed. Now.”
“I’m giving you five minutes to get your head back in this. I’m all for bossy and shit, but I draw a line at whatever the fuck you call what you’ve got going on at the moment. Barking orders at me is a whole lot fucking different than dominating me.” With that, she stalked out of the bathroom.
Thank fuck.

See what people are saying about it…

“A Reason to Breathe was a read I truly enjoyed, I loved Jack and Jenn and their exasperatingly funny sexy relationship. Jack is an alpha through and through, utterly delicious and completely bossy. Jenn wasn’t a weak little mouse, she was as stubborn as him, and was the perfect match for Jack. I loved the dialogue, I loved the small town feel, I loved their sexual chemistry and intensity, overall I really really liked it.”
~Pam @ Bookgem

“First book I read from this author and I can’t wait to read more in the future. I haven’t read this kind of love story for a long time. I’m hopelessly romantic so I loved the love at first sight and of course Jack the alpha male.”  ~Amazon Customer

“I could NOT put this book down. Every page I turned made me want more and more. I was in fact a little sad to reach the ending and not because of the storyline… NO… it was because I truly missed Jack and Jenn and the rest of the character cast. “
