Jade C. Jamison
I’ve been on the planet for a while. I’ve been married for over thirty years and we have four adult kids who make us very proud. Although I’ve worked a lot of different jobs and enjoyed some of them, writing is the one “job” I’ve always loved, even when I don’t. 🙂

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first–because you’re figuring out the characters and the universe and all that good stuff!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I’ve been struggling with that a lot lately. What I’m doing to keep it fresh is trying to come up with unique plot points and writing slightly different characters.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

1 hour (I still work a full-time job; otherwise, I’d probably write more)

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight #eventsponsor -Kate Hawthorne

Kate Hawthorne

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi! My name is Kate Hawthorne and I write kinky and contemporary gay romance. Even though I’m born and raised in Southern California, I’ve been living in Louisville, KY for the last four years. I’ve been publishing for six years, and I don’t have any plans to slow down. I’m a bit of an introvert until you get me going, and I can’t wait to meet you (or see you again) in July!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first book is always hardest for me because it comes with the most pressure. You have to introduce all your people and set the tone for the rest of the series. If your first book isn’t good, it’s going to be hard to keep people reading!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I think all my characters have really distinct personalities and wants in their (fictional) lives, so it’s easy for me to keep things fresh. It’s not like I’m telling the same stories over and over because the characters are all so different.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t cut corners! Make sure you’re always giving your books 100% and surround yourself with a professional team that can help make the work easier for you. I couldn’t do what I do without my friends, my editor, my cover designer, and my PA.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I try to write at least 2 hours a day. Ideally 2-4. I *can* go longer, but in shorter bursts.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

This is like trying to choose a favorite child!! It’s such a hard question and I have so many favorites for so many different reasons. I really love Cameron Motel from the Room for Love series. He’s the youngest (by far) of 5 brothers and he’s so bratty and spoiled, and he’s the first book in a six book series, so it was a lot of fun for me to explore the way he matured through his relationship and how that changed the way he interacted with his brothers. He’s always going to be the youngest child, but there is some maturation there that was really fun for me to play with. And I enjoyed being able to grow him up a bit without changing the core of who he is as a character.

What is your definition of success?

This is such a hard question. Success is honestly so personal, but I CAN say that I consider myself to be very successful.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

I’m an open book! I’m always happy to talk and answer questions, so feel free to say hi any time!

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight -Julie Navickas#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight –

Julie Navickas

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Julie Navickas and I’m an author of contemporary romance. I started writing my debut novel during the COVID-19 pandemic; what started as a creative outlet turned into a full-fledged secondary career! I have a trio of books traditionally published with Inkspell Publishing called the Trading Heartbeats trilogy. I’m now proud to call myself an award-winning and best-selling author! In 2024, I’ll release three more called the Clumsy Little Hearts trilogy.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I definitely think the second, third, etc. books are more difficult to write when drafting a series. I focus very closely on character arcs; this becomes a challenge when the character arcs span the length of several novels. Not to mention, it’s hard to keep track of all the tiny plot details along the way!

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

The best advice I can offer is to simply build writing time into the day. I write best in the evening hours, so I look at my writing time as a reward. With the right mentality, writing doesn’t have to become emotionally draining or painful. It’s just fun and something to look forward to after a long day!

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Most days I commit 1-2 hours to my manuscript.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I sure do! My favorite character to date is Austin Templeton. Austin’s primary story is told in my second novel, I Love You Today, but he also appears in I Loved You Yesterday and I’ll Love You Tomorrow (mostly to stir up trouble!). Austin started out as a secondary character and quickly became something more. He’s a successful career-man with a past; he’s witty and charming and I’ve been told he’s a fan-favorite from readers, too.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

I am a big fan of Red’s books. I have read so many and all of the different genre’s she has written in, I was excited for the new contemporary series.  She promised we would love the brothers and she is 100% correct. She neglects to tell us we would love the boy’s dad, Leith, and I think everyone needs to be ready for this strong, lovable man who steals a few scenes.

I felt 100% connected to Avery in the first pages.  I am TERRIFIED of the roads in the Rockies. I have also cried a time or two so we became besties INSTANTLY!!  LOL  Avery is a bit of a city girl but due to the lay offs she has to take a opportunity at a small town library.

Lance is a local fireman and works at grandma’s lodge when Avery steps in.  The chemistry is off the charts from the beginning of the story.  Lance is one of “THOSE” single brothers who no one thinks will ever get married much to the single town ladies dismay.

The story of the two was sweet initially and then got some spicey if ya know what I mean reading a Red story.  I enjoyed seeing the couple grow and experience the insta love.  I also liked seeing them both try to heal their trauma’s from the past together.

The story was super enjoyable.  As much as I liked Lance, I am super stoked for Malcom.  He will be a good read between his love of numbers and the single mom baker with her adorable daughter.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the Author for an honest review.

I love Red’s stories and reading the adventures her characters go on. I was so ready for a new adventure and she did not disappoint. I have fallen in love with the Macallan Brothers and honestly cannot wait to read all their stories.  I cannot wait to see all these Brothers fall and fall hard.

This is Avery and Lance’s story the librarian and the HOT fire fighter. Avery lost her job as a librarian due to cutbacks and decides to leave her family to see what small town living is like. Avery has to face her fears in this small town of Crested Butte but meeting Lance helps this a little. Lance also has things in his past that he is trying to overcome. I loved watching these two mesh together and help on another to overcome their fears. This book is filled with the most wonderful love story. Really with fairs, games, flowers, kittens, flying, family and seeing if fears can be overcome you cannot go wrong with this book.

I not only fell in love with Avery and Lance but I adore his grandmother and his dad. The kitten even stole some of my heart and I am not a cat person.  I am so invested in this story that I need to know more about the Macallan family not just one of them but all of the brothers and even their dad and grandma. This was the best start to a new series and I cannot wait to see what wonderful adventures Red has in store for us with this story.

Shanna Pikora

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Shanna Pikora – I am a biologist by trade but am a writer at heart. My genres vary greatly from sweet and spicy romance to dark and twisted fantasy. I have a baby girl, two cats, and a husband! I’ve always wanted to visit Scotland and each of my romance stories feature a black cat!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Others after it, so many details to track!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I like to mix up the main characters and points of view. That way readers can see secret details the main characters aren’t aware of.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t force it. I’ve tried to “power through” when I emotionally drained or in a bad mental state and my writing never works out well – which just adds to my negativity pile. Find your joy, write what you love, and don’t let anyone take that ray of inspiration from you!

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA….We don’t talk about Bruno….

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I do…but SPOILERS – as the book isn’t published yet!

What is your definition of success?

Reaching a goal and enjoying the journey there! Double success if you learned something new!

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

I can’t wait to see everyone at WOTR! I love meeting new people and getting to meet new authors!

#WOTR24 #AgeGap #MM #MC #Kinky #KU #Audio – Reckless, Leather & Chrome book 1 by Kiki Clark, narrated by John Solo

Ride hard. Love harder. Live recklessly.

Tank is done with his old life. All it’s brought him is trouble and misery in the form of a four-year prison term. Though he did find one good thing while behind bars: Charles “CJ” Crane, pen pal extraordinaire.

After months of exchanging increasingly personal letters, Tank knows exactly where he’s headed as soon as the prison gates open. CJ doesn’t know he’s coming, and he’s not sure what he’ll say when he gets there, but he knows one thing for certain.

The promises he and his boy made to each other in their letters may have been reckless, but he’s willing to risk everything he’s got on finding out if what they have could be real.

Reckless is the first book in the Leather & Chrome series and features a motorcycle club’s annual charity ride, a possessive biker whose new favorite color is pink, a twenty-four-year-old overly eager to experience his first time, and an excessive appreciation for perfectly lined tattoos.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audio book and a signed book when I saw the author at a book event.

I have to admit.  I haven’t read an MM in a long time.  I have read several but seemed to get burned out so I have been passing over them.  Anyway, when I saw the cover and her little synopsis that was on the book I jumped: MC, Age Gap, Kinky…yes please.

I have to say I enjoyed the way the story was told.  I loved listening to the letters that CJ and Tank would write to each other.  I loved how we see them writing basic things and then slowly start to develop an attraction to one another.

Tank and Cj are both 2 broken souls.  They both have had rough lives.  CJ was abandoned by his family who should have loved him unconditionally.  Tank was used and abused by his family and his MC family as well.

When Tank and CJ meet it didn’t go as Tank thought it would go.  CJ had no idea who the man staring at him was but thought about his penpal Tank.

When they finally “Connect” it was a night of naughty exploration and fun between the two characters.  They definitely start to dive into what they like and want.  Tank loves being a daddy for CJ. He loves the power dynamic between the two men and so does CJ.

The story is a great example of two people who find love a bit unconventional but overcome alot to prove to the other they are the right person to be with forever.  Can I just end this with SIX!!!  OMG I need to get my man a boy as well.  His story was so sad to me.  I need the strong broody neighbor to be happy.

Kiki Clark, bestselling author of MM romance, writes fast-paced and scorching hot stories guaranteed to satisfy. Contemporary, paranormal, or fantasy—they all deliver a happy ever after ending.

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight -Amanda Zook

Amanda Zook

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m Amanda Zook. I’m originally from Hershey, Pennsylvania but now live in southwest Michigan on the shore of Lake Michigan. I write romantic suspense and have had a passion for reading and writing romances since middle school.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I think the later books in the series are what I’ve been struggling with most lately. Especially since readers have gotten to know the characters throughout the series and as an author you don’t want to disappoint the readers and not do one of their favorite characters justice in their own book.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I just write the story that comes to me. I don’t think about whether its fresh enough.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Find some support. Either your family or other authors. Plenty of author groups out there to participate in.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I try to get around 5 hours a day. Sometimes more. More often less.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I think Finch from my latest release is my favorite. His story was tough, but I liked his little quirks (he loves gummy worms and always has a bag of them in his pocket).

What is your definition of success?

I don’t really have one for myself. I didn’t set out to do this for the money or fame. I just wanted to finally write my books. People reading/recognizing me is just an added bonus.

#WOTR24 #MM #KU #2ndChance #AgeGap – Daybreak by Kate Hawthorne, narrated by Kirt Graves and Kale Williams

When a sunny young musician gets stranded with a grumpy mechanic during a snowstorm, a lack of heat is the least of their problems…

Liam Luckett is on an adventure. He’s dropped out of his Master’s program without telling his overbearing parents and set off on a road trip across the country. Armed with little more than his guitar, he’s looking for his best life. He never expected his car to break down in the middle of nowhere Vermont with a huge storm pending, leaving him stranded and at the mercy of a hunky local mechanic.

Jasper Cunningham is in a holding pattern. Three years after the death of his husband, he still hasn’t moved on. A hot, younger stranded tourist is exactly the sort of complication this mechanic has been avoiding. But he also can’t leave him in the snow. He brings Liam home and lets him sleep on the couch. The air is heavy with more than snow, and when the power goes out, the two men become closer than either of them expects.

Every silken note Liam sings on that guitar thaws Jasper’s heart a little. Suddenly, Liam’s itchy feet aren’t so eager to move on. When their feelings get too big to ignore, the bond they’ve formed is tested. Will daybreak leave them going their separate ways?

This opposites attract, hurt/comfort romance features a grumpy widower who is only soft for one specific blue-eyed musician, a remote farmhouse, a friendly dog, and enough snow to knock the power out until love catches fire.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audio book from Audible through my monthly subscription for free.

I haven’t read an MM in AGES!!  I read so many that I burned out a few years ago.  I met Kate at an author event and absolutely love her. SO I was like I’m gonna read a dirty book by Kate.  I looked through her catalogue.  Jasper and Laim just kinda called to me…so here we are.

Jasper, man did he hurt my heart.  From the first chapter you feel his hurt and his pain is still evident 3 years after the loss of his husband.  They had been together for YEARS so I can only imagine how difficult it would be to pick up and move on.

Liam is just a lot of fun.  He is a flirt but also feels the pain and hurt Jasper has.  He is a fun light that Jasper did not know he needed in his life.  Good thing his friends Ty and Emmet knew it.

The story of these two is a great slow burn.  We see the attraction building between them.  We can see the sight touches and once Jasper commits to moving forward with his life, Liam is there to see him though his desires…on the couch *wink wink*

I loved the couple and how they grew but also feared the skeletons in their closets. I mean Liam has no clue where Jasper’s husband is and Jasper has no clue WHO Liam is.    Woof the chapter where everything shakes out, I wanted to nut punch Jasper but loved the ending chapters.

With over two dozen published romances to her name, Kate Hawthorne has built a recognizable brand around telling emotional stories that pack a figurative (and sometimes literal) punch.

Existing on a steady diet of wine and coffee, Kate spends her days dreaming up angsty stories full of heat, kink, and heart. Kate now lives in Louisville, where she writes romance, reads romance, and hides from the humidity.

Previously a novella of 15k in the Realms and Rebels box set, now lengthened to a full length novel.

A broken vase isn’t all this maid owed her masters.

Piper needed a job. Any job would do. But when the temp agency assigns her to clean the house of a bunch of snobby rich men, she isn’t sure it’s worth it.

Stuck in a job she has no choice but to keep, Piper becomes even more indebted to her employers when she breaks a priceless vase.

However, her clumsiness is the least of Piper’s troubles. Her mysterious and dangerously tempting employers have a secret. One that they are willing to kill to keep. Will she be able to save her job? Let alone live through it?

I purchased this audio book.

I grabbed this book because it checked off all my boxes…Vampires and RH being 2 of my biggest.  Since I listened to the audio I am not 100% sure on the spelling of the characters names.

First up I loved me some Piper.  She was not going to sit and listen to this “men” tell her what to do and treat her so rudely.  She spoke her mind even IF she was getting into trouble for it.

The “men” she was taking care of were very arrogant, sexy, annoying, sexy, rude, sexy…do you get what I am saying?  LOL  She struggles a lot with keeping her thoughts pure especially when it comes to Wen and then Drake and then Raine and then….ok yeah all of them at some point.

As the book goes on Piper discovers the “men” are actually vampires.  She is initially freaked a bit but then realized they aren’t so bad right?  When she is thrust into the Vampire world and kinda war, we see Piper flounder but one of the guy is there to help her.  Unfortunately that night causes trouble for your girl which we will learn about in book 2 as this does end in a cliffhanger.

I was absolutely in love with Piper and her stubborn personality. I have to say I really enjoyed Drake the most of the brothers but Wen had giving a sideways look.  I cant wait to see more about Master Durand and the blood bond he has with the butler.

This book had me totally enthralled and not wanting to stop listening.

Erin Bedford is an otaku, recovering coffee addict, and Legend of Zelda fanatic. Her brain is so full of stories that need to be told that she must get them out or explode into a million screaming chibis. Obsessed with fairy tales and bad boys, she hasn’t found a story she can’t twist to match her deviant mind full of innuendos, snarky humor, and dream guys.

On the outside, she’s a work from home mom and bookbinger. One the inside, she’s a thirteen-year-old boy screaming to get out and tell you the pervy joke they found online. As an ex-computer programmer, she dreams of one day combining her love for writing and college credits to make the ultimate video game!

Until then, when she’s not writing, Erin is devouring as many books as possible on her quest to have the biggest book gut of all time. She’s written over thirty books, ranging from paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and even scifi romance.

Also, third person is really weird when writing about yourself. Just putting that out there.
