#WOTR23 #attendingauthor – Savannah Verte

Savannah Verte

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Savannah Verte. wife, mother, grandmother, professional Sexton. Author for almost a decade

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

All of them for different reasons. The first because you want it to hold interest after it’s done so readers come back for the next. You’re also excited to embark on a new writing journey and the disciplines can be overwhelming, making it hard to focus.
The subsequent ones because they need to do the same, but also live up to the first when you were excited about a new story idea.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I never write sequentially. I will write something else between volumes in a series to keep my mental edge, and to keep from blurring the storylines together. Hopefully, this variety gives the readers fresh material too.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

However you do it, is the right way. Writing isn’t a “if I can do it, you can do it,” pursuit. It is a deeply personal event between the writer and the page. Authors need to find what works for them, and not get distracted by what works for others.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

none. I will rework a story in my head for weeks or months before sitting down to purge it to the page in a small window.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

so many of them for different reasons, but I think Ashmael Nocte is my personal kryptonite. He’s not what he seems and the dichotomy of him is a challenge to flesh out before I can write him. He’s a single malt…slow burn, complex notes, but so simple and pure he’s elusive, even as he’s right in front of me.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

I’m horrible for this kind of question. I don’t pay attention to current events, and really don’t watch television or movies, so I don’t know who most celebrities are.

What is your definition of success?

When I don’t weigh more at the doctor’s office than what I do at home…. seriously, when the bills are paid, the necessities are covered, I have friends and family to share time with, and laughter.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

Thanks for checking me out. I’m a huge fan of this event and the good work that it does.

#WOTR23 #EnemiesToLovers #InstaLove #SmallTown #KU – The Sweetest Thing, Starlight Harbor Book 1 by Bria Quinlan

Starlight Harbor’s Sweetheart has had enough…

Lyra Grigor is the easy going, sweet, smile-at-everyone owner of The Sweetest Things.  When an annoying travel site puts Starlight Harbor on their Top Ten Tacky Tiny Towns list for the fourth year running, she knows it’s time to give the writer a bit of spicy tart instead of a teaspoon of sugar.

An outsider who just wants out…

Spence Côte has no idea what hit his site. Nearly a thousand replies on some little baker’s comment and everything has blown up. Since the site is up for sale, it couldn’t have happened at a worse time. Now he has to drive up to the middle of nowhere coast of Maine and get this resolved. ASAP.

Two worlds collide…

Between the puppies dressed as pirates, the older women masquerading as tavern wenches, and the sweetest little baker he’s ever seen, Spence knows Starlight Harbor might not just be freakishly adorable….it might be what he’d been looking for.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

I am not sure where to begin with this book except to say it landed in my lap during a much needed time.  I needed some light.  I needed some sweet.  I needed a delicious buttercream frosting cupcake that only Lyra and Spencer could provide.

This book is ab-so-lute adorable fun.  It is insta-hateish love???  Is this a thing?  I dunno but Bria did it and I loved it.   This book has banter…lawd the banter between Lyra, the harmed town baker and Spencer, the journalist and or Mob Boss???  I loved the town history and why they do the Christmas celebrations year-round.  I loved how the town rallied behind Lyra when she was throwing Spencer out of town…Angie and her dog did make me smile A LOT.

I was reading this book and laughing so much.  The townspeople are nuts but in the best dang possible way.  Lyra and Spencer and both head over heels about the other but pride keeps them at bay from admitting feelings pluuuuuus they aren’t really sure if feelings are reciprocated.

I had the best couple of hours reading and admit I might grab the next book in the series just because I wanna see how Cam is going to win Vi.  She is a disgruntled female who is going to be wooed in a biiiiiiiiig way.

But honestly this book was just a fun read.  It’s a good book when you just need some happiness or feel good in your life.  Don’t we all need and want some happiness and feel good!!??

Bria Quinlan is an award-nominated bestselling author of eight Romantic Comedies and YA Issue Books (that she swears are funny…really. They are.) Her books make you snort Diet Coke out your nose or tear up and curse her name.

It didn’t surprise anyone when Bria Quinlan started writing YA Rom Coms… after all, her life is a walking sitcom (minus the commercials). Plus, secretly she’s still 16 (although her license says something different). Finally putting those English Literature and Creative Writing degrees and Copy Editing cert to work, Bria’s excited to get her quirky stories on the page to share with the world (or at least a segment of it).

She’s represented by the awesomely amazing Lauren Macleod of the Clan…. Oh, wait. Of Strothman Agency.

Bria writes Romantic Comedies for teens that take hard topics and make you laugh through your tears. You can contact her at briaquinlan.com OR twitter @briaquinlan
She also writes sweet & sassy Contemporary Romances as Caitie Quinn.

Jolanthe Aleksander

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Jolanthe (Jo-lawn-thay) Aleksander. I’m a mom to 1 son. I work full time and write whenever I can.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The last book in a series I found to be the hardest because you want to make sure that everything is tied up, there are no open storylines that need a conclusion.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I’ve only written one series, and it was an ongoing series with the same couple as the main characters. I’ll be able to answer better when through with the new series I’m working on. 😉

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Find something that takes your mind away from writing but can be just as inspiring. For some that can be reading, dancing, taking a drive to the beach, a nature walk, planting…or just vegging on the couch watch your favorite show. Sometimes we just need a mental break to recharge and reboot.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Not enough.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Celine from my Veil series. She is fiesty, strong, and not afraid to fight back.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

hmmmm….the only celebrity I had in mind for my books was Brock O’Hurn. He was the inspiration for Caomhnoir.

What is your definition of success?

Finishing what you started to the best of your ability.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

What works for one author doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for another. Some have a regimented writing routine. Some squeeze their writing in between tasks. Some are plotters and others are pantsers or somewhere in between.

Taki Kasai

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hiiiii! My name is Taki Kasai. I write fantasy, sci-fi, and contemporary Romance. Currently live in the St. Louis-ish area.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

All of the books that follow. I set the bar with the first and feel like I have to keep raising it further while keeping the material fresh and new. Eek

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I try to think of different ways to bring the world to focus and change up how the characters react to a situation. Per example I have an assassin, a crazy lady, and a hacker. They help keep things fresh haha

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Do it at your pace. Don’t allow people to rush you, the story will come when it is supposed to.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I try to spend at least a couple hours. For the past few weeks it has only been about 45 mins or so though.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Addie Moya. She is a mysterious character, everything you have her figured out she changes things on you. She keeps it interesting and makes me want to get to her story even more.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

In the Mage War series I really want Michael Fassbender to play my main evil Lorcan. In my Genesis Trilogy. I would love to see Tom Hardy play my series killer.

What is your definition of success?

Being happy with the product you released and just being happy in general.

Michel Prince is the attending author.

Turbo Book 11 of The Steel MC Montana Charter by [Michel Prince, Wren McCabe]

In book eleven of The Steel MC Montana Charter: Porsche ‘Turbo’ DeGrassa isn’t one to sit still. While she’s always up for a challenge or a new project, she tends to take them on without ever completing anything. Never in her life has she had a place become more than a pass through to the next adventure, and yet, she’s now five years into living with the Steels in Montana and itching to find something or someone to finally keep her from spinning like a top through life.

For months now, Michael ‘Bugs’ Hanover, has been wondering why his daughter had become distant. The ordinarily bubbly eight-year-old now is reserved and quiet. When he discovers the unthinkable at pick up, he snaps, sending his daughter and him on a cross-country trek to hide out with former SEAL Thomas ‘Hack’ Creek and regroup. His daughter’s safety and future are his only concern. While justified by all rights to the wrong he committed, the law may see it differently. The last thing he needs is a stunning woman connecting with his daughter and him when the stop was supposed to be a harbor in a storm.

A wild woman, much like his ex that didn’t keep his daughter safe, was now the one the little girl ran to for comfort. For Porsche, stepping in with a broken child cannot be a temporary project abandoned for the next fun opportunity. While Michael needs to move on, Turnabout Creek offers him a life after service if he can find a way to stay out of prison. Will he strive to stay one step ahead of the law? Or will he fight for what is right and the chance to be with the Turbo charged woman dancing her way into his life?

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book and audio book by the author for an honest review.

The narration is on point as usual for this series.  Kat does the best voices and I love listening to her story telling!!

GAH!!  This book!!  We have seen Porsche in several of the books as a back up character or a dancer at the Roadside.  In Dreamers book we got to KNOW her and her back story.  I was super excited to see her get a book and knowing it would be with one of Hack’s buddies, I knew it would be good!!

Mike, Bugs, finds out the worst news ever by accident when he is picking up his daughter.  He runs to his friend’s town knowing SEALS help SEALS.  Little does he know this group also helps abused women and children.

Porsche, Turbo, is loving her live dancing but maybe is wondering about more.  It seems more and more people are shacking up and getting knocked up so she fears drinking the water.  But Porsche loves her live.  She does have some trauma she doesn’t want to deal with annnnd she really hates to take her medication for her mental health, but she loves her.

She gets a hair brain scheme to help the town and Chief raise funds for a town firetruck which causes a lot of funny moments and scenes between the men and their women to count.

When Porsche meets Mike the chemistry is sizzling off the charts but when Mike’s daughter, Syd, begins to open up and trust this woman, Mike begins to want ot know more about her.

Guys the story about Syd is crushing but the story of her recovery, loyalty, trust, and Love is what makes this book.  The last 2 chapters…one had me in tears with laughter but the last has me in tears for heartbreak!!  I absolutely oved this story.  Porsche was one hell of a woman and I will enjoy rereading this story a lot.  If I wasn’t 110% team Baldy, Mike might have stolen my heart with what he did to claim his woman!!

The focus is on creating two strong, independent characters who can stand on their own, but complement each other as a couple.”- Amazon Review of Silly Girl

“One Last Sunset is a well written story by the awesome Michel Prince that left me wanting to learn more about the rest of the Long family.”- Amazon Review for One Last Sunset.

“I could not put it down, and will definitely be looking for more from this Author.”-Amazon Review of Silly Girl.

With characters yelling “It’s my turn damn it!!!” She tries to explain to them that alas, she can only type a hundred and twenty words a minute and they will have wait their turn. #WOTR23 #attendingauthor – Debbie Burns

Debbie Burns

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Debbie Burns – best-selling author of eight heartwarming contemporary romance and women’s fiction novels who writes happily ever afters for both her stories two- and four-legged stars.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Honestly, I think they are different challenges and awards for both the first and the rest in the series. The first takes longer, but it also allows for more freedom as you’re setting the story parameters. Also, looking back, a series bible is essential!!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

My Rescue Me series has expanded to seven books. Since it’s set in St. Louis, I’ve had fun writing about different St. Louis neighborhoods, restaurants, and venues each story. Also, since my books are set in a fictional animal shelter, I also choose a different type of animal rescue (and dog breed) to highlight each story.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Take time for self care and fill your creativity well often. I love hiking, gardening, and going to yoga classes. All these leave me feeling restored and more in connection with my creativity. Also, when it comes to writing first drafts, I’ve found Stephen King’s adage of “Write with the door closed; edit with the door open” can’t be understated.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I probably average about three hours a day, though some days are longer and others, lighter.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

No, I fall in love with the characters just as deeply with each story. I will say that it’s often the dogs in the stories whose connection I cherish the longest. Perhaps that’s because many of them have been based on real animal personalities that I’ve known.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

If any of my books were made into a movie, I’d want it to be Summer by the River, my stand-alone women’s fiction. Usually, I envision the stars of my books as a mashup of my imagination and real people; however, when I wrote that book, I 100% envisioned a young Gerard Butler as Carter O’Brien, the male lead. Now Gerard Butler would be too old to play Carter, but I’d hope they would find someone who’d be both charming and a good look alike!

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

#Audio #dark – Does it Hurt by H.D. Carlton, narration by Troy Duran and Michelle Sparks

Does It Hurt?

Who am I?

I’ve forgotten the answer to that question long ago. Ever since I ran from that house, so desperate to escape, I left with only the clothes on my back and socks on my feet. After that day, I’ve only ever walked in stolen shoes.

Could I be a girl who is searching for the meaning of life in faceless men? They were all so forgettable. Until he came along. He took me under a waterfall and made me forget my name, and in return, I took his instead.

Enzo Vitale.

An enigmatic man that will only ever love the deep sea. Or rather the predators that inhabit it. Turns out, he’s not so different than the monsters he feeds. He lured me onto his boat like a fish in the ocean, seeking vengeance for my crime. Had I realized his intentions, and that a massive storm would leave us shipwrecked, I would’ve ran.

Now, I’m a girl who’s seeking refuge in a decrepit lighthouse with a man who loathes me almost as much as he craves me. He wants to hurt me, but the old caretaker of the abandoned island may have intentions far more sinister.

It’s no longer a question of who I am, but rather, will I survive?

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Angie

I received this audio book from the authors PR firm for an honest review.

Man there is so much to say before I get into the review for this book.  I read the Adeline duet like everyone and liked it a ton. So when this book initially was released I didn’t grab it because I was afraid it wouldn’t live up to the hype in my head after Adeline.  I let it go for a bit and was getting ready to grab the book when her PR firm offered a review audio copy.  Audio is my JAM and I said yes!!  Troy and Michelle were amazing voices for the story and kept me fully invested.  I loved loved loved the audio so much with them telling the story.

Now when I jumped into the story I could SEE a similar vibe between Enzo/Sawyer and Adeline/Zade and I was ALLLL in.  However, the story changed directions and so did the characters.  Now I see a lot of Enzo hate because he isn’t Zade and I don’t think that is fair.  Enzo isn’t a great guy but yes he isn’t Zade.  But Enzo is a great anti hero initially.  He does some not nice things to Sawyer on the boat when he finds his “Little Thief”.  When the 2 are stranded on the island with creepy Sylvester the story changed its vibe again from an Adeline vide to a mystery/paranormal.  There were a lot of things going on but through it all, Sylvester was CREEPY!!  LOL

I did enjoy the story and the twist of everything that was happening at the light house. I did enjoy the story of the survival and how Sawyer could change her life drastically.  I loved Enzo hating and then fully loving Sawyer.  I loved him pushing her and pushing her until she too was in love with him.  I absolutely loved the story for what it was…which is Sawyer and Enzo’s story.

What I didn’t care for …the sex filler.  Ya’ll I love me some sexy times but there were times I felt like oh hey lets just fill this chapter with sex and then move on.  I mean I skimmed a few sexy times because it didn’t move the story forward.  It was just filler.

So if you loved Adeline go into this with a different head space.  It isn’t as dark, there are dark themes, but understand Enzo and Sawyer are 2 different characters. Their story is nothing like Zade and Adeline.

#WOTR23 #attendingauthor – J.M. Madden

J.M. Madden

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is JM and I’ve been a full-time writer for about 11 years. I have 2 mostly-grown kids and I’m married to the love of my life!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first book is the hardest, because you have to build the basis for your series. And if you get anything wrong, you’re stuck with it. Lol!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I try to stay true to life, as much as possible. I write about disabled veterans and I try to make sure to portray the disability as realistically as possible. Even my paranormal series, I try to make the details as real and believable as possible, just to make you wonder if it COULD be true.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Finish the first book, then put it aside. Write your second book. Go back to your first book and see how much you’ve grown! I’m 50+ books in, and I’m still learning!

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Roughly 2-4 hours. More if I’m on a deadline.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

John Palmer from Embattled Hearts (which is free everywhere). He’s in your face and doesn’t care who he pisses off. But he’s a great leader and friend.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Manu Bennett would be John Palmer. Everyone else is up in the air. Lol!

What is your definition of success?

Being able to do what I love and have people appreciate it!

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I am from Central Illinois, born and raised. I live about 10 minutes from my own small hometown, which might be why I love to write small town stories. I’m married to my high school sweetheart, and we share two kids.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Definitely the latter books!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I like to brainstorm with my book team and do so almost daily with my writing partner, Kaylee Ryan.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Just write the book. Tell the story the way you feel it should be told. Then, find yourself a team of betas, editors, and proofers to help perfect it. It takes many sets of eyes to find the little things. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the last nine years, it’s not to skimp on good covers (photo and design) and editing.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

3-5 hours, spread through the day.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Meghan Summer from the Summer Sisters. She was the hardest character I’ve ever written. I was terrified telling her story because I was scared readers wouldn’t like it. It was outside of my comfort zone, but I powered through and wrote one of my favorite books every. It took almost the entire series to shape her storyline, and I couldn’t be prouder of it!

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

I’d LOVE to see the Brew Crue turned into a movie. I see Liam Hemsworth as Walker and Natalie Portman as Mallory.

What is your definition of success?

Loving what I do. Life’s too short not to find joy in what you do day in and day out.

Horse's Bride (Devil's Riot MC Book 1) by [E.C. Land]

Horse

Years ago I lost the one woman who’s ever been able to rock my world. When she disappeared into thin air I stopped caring, fucking whoever, whenever.
The one thing I didn’t plan for was seeing her face in all of these women.
No one could ever compare to her and here she is, her ghost haunting me every day.
I thought that relocating with the club to start our new charter would be the change I needed to move on, but what happens when I see her again. Only this time, she isn’t a ghost.
She’s real.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased the audio and ecopy of this book.

I am a GIANT MC reader.  I was looking for something to read when a friend recommended this series to me.  I had audio credits and grabbed the box set for the first few books.  I am a huge audio lover so this made me super excited.  I have got to say this narrator was not one I cared for….sorry Ken.  I listened to the first 30% of the story and ended up buying the book to read the story. I found the narration for the book was not one I personally cared for.  I hope others may enjoy his voice but for me, I will pass on future books of his.

This book has me excited because I love a good 2nd chance and have found a love for best friends sibling. This book hits both genres and I didn’t know it.  Horse and Twisted, the President of the club are headed to the new town to see the new club house.  Horse soon discovers the “one who got away” or ran away is the woman he was ready to claim.  He also discovers this is also his best friend’s sister!!  Needless to say, he is concerned with how his president and best friend will feel about this but more important he wants to know why this woman ran from him.  He was ready to claim her and wants to know what happened.

Kenny fell hard for Horse and was stunned when he shows up in town with her brother.  She has never forgotten him buuuut she is scared to go back down that path after what happened.  First loves are hard to forget even when she shouldn’t love him.

The story is fun to meet new MC characters, see the dynamic of the members, the new town, and the new relationship.  I loved Kenny.  She was so strong and loyal but also afraid to tell her brother what happened to her 5 years ago.

I loved the chemistry between Kenny and Horse.  I thought they were so much fun to read.  The shower scene when she first saw him again was THE BEST!!!!
