#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Cindy Tanner

Cindy Tanner

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Cindy Tanner. As an only child that grew up on a farm in rural Indiana an overactive imagination developed out of necessity. I started making up stories before I could write. I love animals and have a tendency to collect the ones need a home. I love reading as much as I love writing and cannot stay in one genre for either!

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

When I’m writing I need music to set the mood for whatever scene I’m writing *wink* and snacks (Reese’s pieces or peanut butter M&M are my favorite)

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

BOOKS! Getting to buy new books, getting to talk to people that love books as much as I do, and best of all getting to talk to the author that created the awesome stories I love reading!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Diana Gabaldon

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

When I can keep a consistent schedule I feel invincible however I let life (and my son) distract me more than I should. I do dedicate time everyday to write even if it is just a few hundred words on my phone.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

Goofy’s Big Race. It was my Dad’s favorite book to read to me. He quoted it to me growing so many time especially when I would get frustrated when things weren’t happening as fast as I wanted. He passed away about a year and a half before I had my son. I still have the copy that my dad always read to me. Now I read it to my son. It means the world to me to be able to share something with my son that I enjoyed so much with my dad.

#WOTR20 #5YearFamily #AuthorSpotlight – Lisa Caviness

Lisa Caviness

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Lisa Caviness. Lisa Caviness is an award-winning author or romantic thrillers and suspense novels. She loves dreaming up story ideas where her characters are pushed to their limits during dangerous and blood-tingling adventures. As a lifelong reader of an eclectic pool of books from mystery/thrillers, science fiction, contemporary romance, and the classics, Lisa has never been without a book on the nightstand and a long to be read list. Although she began crafting stories as a child, she also held a deep interest in science. After college, she worked as a registered nurse before starting a career as a clinical project manager in medical research. She has lived in Boston, Massachusetts and now makes her home in Indiana with her husband, kids, and an affectionate black cat.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

When I’m writing I like to have a beverage close by whether it be water, coffee, or tea. If I’m in the zone the noise level doesn’t matter but when I’m struggling then I listening to study concentration music on Youtube or Spotify.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Engaging with readers and talking about books is, of course, my top priority. Whether they are buying my books or not I find it fun and interesting to learn about their perspective on books and what they enjoy reading. I also love meeting other authors. I usually try to make a sweep of the room before the signing starts to introduce myself.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’d love to meet Melinda Leigh, Lisa Gardner, Beverly Jenkins, Vince Flynn, Peter Swanson, and Elizabeth Hayes. I find their stories amazing. I can’t choose just one and there are more than I listed here!

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I’d love to have a set schedule but everyday is bit different but I rarely miss a day where I don’t write something.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

The moment I saw my first book in print. It’s a feeling like no other!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

My copy of A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle is my favorite book. After reading this book, as a young girl, I got the urge to write my own stories for the first time.

#WOTR2020 #Review – Unexpected Surrender – by: JM Walker

Unexpected Surrender (A Standalone Novel)

I am Luther Knight.
Powerful. Businessman. I own everything and everyone around me.
Until her.
Lexi Adams challenges me in ways I never knew I needed.
She’s defiant and stubborn, unwilling to show me her true submission.
She turns my whole world upside down and no matter how much I ignore it, I can’t help but
crave her.
When she becomes desperate, The Club is all that she has, and I watch as she falls for her
Master.
She’s confused, conflicted, and unable to decide who she wants more. Me or Him.
But the difference between her and I? I know what I want. Her.
And I won’t stop until I have her at my side.
Forever.

Goodreads

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Holly Hotness!!! This book took me for a ride.  Lexi Adams is trying to make ends meet and keep her family deli. When her brother gets involved in some bad things that brings Luther to Lexi’s doorstep.

Luther gives Lexi the option to help out her brother. OK so it may not be an option. She ends up joining Luther’s club to save her brother. Talk about Lexi having a head trip she has feelings for her Master but she also is falling for Luther. I’m telling you This story had me on my toes. I don’t want to say too much about the story I’m afraid I will give things away. Trust me you will want to read this to find out the journey Lexi goes on and Luther for that matter.

I loved the chemistry Luther and Lexi have together. The twist and turns this book took me on had my pulse racing. I thought I had it all figured out and BOOM here came a twist. This book has it all and I enjoyed every second of it.  Great job JM Walker.

A few of my favorites:

“Yes, Lexi. No woman has ever affected me like this.” I chewed my bottom lip. “You terrify me.” He smirked, “Good.”

“I-I don’t control you.” He chuckled, blowing a hot stream of air over my mound. “Yeah. You do, Lexi. In more ways than I care to admit.”

I was obsessed with them. I couldn’t get them out of my head. I swear, it was just pie I wanted from her.”

J.M. Walker is an Amazon bestselling author who recently hit USA Today with Wanted: An Outlaw Anthology. She loves all things books, pigs and lip gloss. She is happily married to the man who inspires all of her Heroes and continues to make her weak in the knees every single day.

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Emily R Pearson

Emily R. Pearson

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m just a small town girl…living in a book world! 🙂 My fiancé and I live in a small town with our two little sidekicks – Anna and Evelyn. We have 3 energetic dogs and a devil cat. I’m a small town computer teacher with big girl teacher dreams. When I’m not wrangling children or studying for my Master’s classes, I’m writing romantic suspense stories that make my momma blush!

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I need an oldie but a goodie on the television and some sour patch kids.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I LOVE meeting others who are as obsessed with the fictional book world as I am. I love meeting readers and other authors – just spending time talking and getting to know everyone. It’s such a wonderful experience.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Richelle Mead – The Vampire Academy is one of my ALL TIME favorite series!! <3

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I don’t have a set schedule. I just write when I can between mom duties, work, and school!

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

My favorite memories involve Writers on the River and just spending time with others who love books as much as I do. DANCE OFF, ANGIE!! DANCE OFF!!!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I have The Curse Keepers signed by Denise Grover Swank – she is one of m inspirations in the book world. It’s because of her that I started writing and being able to call her a friend means so much to me!

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Vivian Ward

Vivian Ward

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Vivian Ward and I started my writing career in 2013. I’m a full-time, Amazon bestselling author of various titles and am best known for writing ménage and dark romance. Throughout my catalog, you will also find some second chance romance as well as enemies to lovers and, of course, erotic romance. My sweeter stories are those that I’ve published with Flirt Club, but even those have some super steamy scenes!

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I have to write in absolute silence because I have squirrel syndrome and get easily sidetracked. While I have an office, I typically like to work while sitting on my back porch because I love the view and it’s so peaceful. Usually, I have a cup of coffee right next to me but sometimes I like to drink something cold while I snack on sunflower seeds.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I’m a people person so I love meeting readers–new and old–and I love networking with other authors as well as photographers and cover models. Meeting my fans never gets old and it feels amazing to know that I change people’s lives. I also believe networking is one of the most important tools that an author can have, so I’m always eager to meet some of my fellow writers. Personally, I hold Writers On the River very near to my heart because it’s such an amazing cause to support. As a victim of domestic abuse and violence, my life could’ve turned out much differently, so I’m glad to help other victims in any way I can.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Tillie Cole, hands down! She could write a freaking grocery list and I’d fall in love with it. LOL Her writing is so detailed and unique and I love how dark her mind is.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

My schedule is hectic with so many littles running around so I don’t have a structured schedule but I do record my progress every day on a spreadsheet to keep my writing goals a top priority. It helps me track if I’m right on target or if I’m falling too far behind so that I can adjust my daily routine to stay on top of things.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

I have a few but my favorite memory is earning my first Amazon bestselling tag.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I do! My favorite book is Sick Fux by Tillie Cole. I love the characters, the way the story is told, and the outcome for everyone involved. My favorite part is when people ask me to summarize it and I tell them that it’s a retelling of Alice In Wonderland where Rabbit and Dolly go on a killing spree, murdering all the bad guys as they stop for tea time, and find their happily ever after when they find the next person to murder once everyone is gone from their circle. It’s a wicked story that I highly recommend!

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Aly Grady

Aly Grady

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Aly Grady – I’m the lady that is constantly running from place to place to catch up with my family.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I am most successful writing in a quiet spot. I’m constantly being pulled by family to different obligations so when I get the chance, “Serenity NOW”

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I realize it sounds cliche but I really do love interacting with readers

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’ve checked that box when I met Nora Roberts in NY a few years back

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I would love to have a schedule but alas I do not. I grab time when I can.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

The first review I received on Amazon from someone that I didn’t know was thrilling!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

It’ll sound corny but the Twilight Saga is a series that is near and dear. I was recovering from surgery and feeling sorry for myself when I read them.

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Dawn Brower

Dawn Brower

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Dawn Brower

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

peanut m&m’s if I have a first choice, but anything small that I can grab while I am writing.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting everyone. I love the energy that readers bring.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’ve met a couple of my unicorn authors. Eloisa James, Julia Quinn, and Tessa Dare. I geeked out so hard. The only other one I would love to meet is Lisa Kleypas and those are just the historical authors… I wouldn’t mind picking Ilona Andrews brains (Like how do they manage to continue to write as a team? I don’t know if I would have that kind of patience. Plus their imagination…brilliant.) I’d also love to meet Kresley Cole and Richelle Mead one day.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I have a writing schedule where I need to have a certain book done by (or go to edits by). I write every day until it is done. Some days are better than others and the words just flow… Other times it is an exercise in patience just to get the minimum word count done.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Seeing my first print book. An eBook just isn’t the same as holding your book in your hand for the first time.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

At one time I’d have said my signed books from Karen Marie Moning. The excitement has faded over the years. I remember meeting her for the first time and being a little gaga. I was an avid participant on her old message boards and through my fan girling over her I met some of my closest friends today. It amazes me still today how much reading can bring people together. I’m thankful every day for discovering KMM because of her I have all these wonderful people in my life.

#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Kate Hawthorne

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Kate Hawthorne and I write steamy, kinky gay romance. I live in Los Angeles, but before it’s WOTR time, I’ll have relocated to Louisville, KY. I’m a big fan of coffee, wine, rootbeer floats, and ghost hunting. I am a prolific reader, and I can never say no to a good enemies-to-lovers story.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I’ve just recently started making playlists to go along with my WIP’s, so I love to listen to whatever I’ve gotten put together for those, but other than that I need total silence. My husband loves to sit next to me at night and watch car videos on his phone, so I’ve become expert at tuning that out, at least. And lots of water. Gotta stay hydrated for all that emotional lifting.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I *love* getting to meet new readers. Even if you haven’t read me or heard of me, I still want to know your name and I want to know what kind of books you love to read. Everyone at signings has at least one thing in common (a love of books), and it’s the best place to meet people.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I actually *met* her earlier this year. Sierra Simone. Second to her though, JM Darhower.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I used to, but in addition to writing I have a day job and a toddler, so time is a lot harder to find than it used to be. I try to write at night if I’m not too tired, and I try to set aside time at least two days a week where I can focus on writing for a couple hours at a time.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

It’s hard to pick one memory. My first signing was GRL in Portsmouth 2018 so that is always going to hold a very special place in my heart.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I don’t think I have one book that I favor over all the others…that said, I do have some books that have survived a lot with me and they have the battle scars to prove it, so those mean something special to me. I also collect old (not my) family bibles from estate sales. I have about a dozen of those that go back to the very early 1800’s. They’re important to me because so many of them hold important family history, and even if it’s not MY history, it was important to someone and should be taken care of.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I was so ecstatic to get this book. I love this family so much and love when we get to see the entire training center family.  To see Brie and Sir celebrate Hope’s first Christmas took me back to my baby girls first Christmas and memories that will always be with me.

There were so many great things going on in this book. So much family love on this Christmas season. Sir has not celebrated Christmas in years but Rytsar and Hope may just bring Christmas joy back into his heart. I was so exited to see what Sir has planned for Brie, Hope and even Rytsar.  Sir did an amazing job planning the Christmas party at the Training center. I enjoyed seeing all the surprises Sir and the other Dom’s had for the subs.  All I can say is I would love to sit on that Santa’s lap.

I had the feel goods through out this entire story. Some of the most amazing thoughtful gifts were given by Sir, Brie and Rytsar. It is Amazing who the best gifts given don’t have to be physical things but words from the heart and boy does Rytsar know the perfect way to deliver it and it is shocking who receives this gift.  I enjoy seeing Mary, Lea and the other subs in this one.  Everyone deserves friends like Sir and Brie’s. Christmas is my favorite holiday and this story was the perfect thing to get me in the Christmas Spirit.

My favorite quote:

“Two strong men facing a holiday they had avoided for years now choosing to experience the holiday through the wonder of Hope’s eyes.”
