#WOTR25 #Review – Resonant (The Vampires of Vegas Prequel) by Alexis Purdy

Surviving is worse than death…

What does it take to make it out alive in a place where everything is but a withered echo of its former self, and death does not come willingly?

I love Prequels! Especially after you get invested with the main character and just NEED to see what the heck they went through at the beginning. However, in this instance, I started with the prequel. Sometimes, this is a big no no because you are just not committed to the story yet. Well, Alexia Purdy is a new to me author and I am now invested in this story. I need to know what craziness April and her family are about to get into. APOCALYPTIC VAMPIRES! I read this in less than an hour and was so bummed that the story was over. But the best part is, I get to dive right into Reign of Blood like, RIGHT NOW! See ya on the flip side!

#review But Come Ye Back by Beth Lordan

For thirty-some years, Lyle has made a life for his family working as an accountant. But when he retires, his Irish-born wife, Mary, wants to leave America and go home — where the ocean is near and the butter has flavor. Somewhat grudgingly, Lyle agrees, but during their years in Galway, they discover that the surprises of life are not over. Going home is more complicated than butter and the bay, and thirty content years does not mean that a couple is immune to romantic intrigue. In this new life, while Mary and Lyle are rediscovering each other and building a richer life together, an unexpected event forces Lyle to decide where his home truly is. Told in “quiet stories with emotions like old stepping-stones that have sunk beneath the surface” ( Christian Science Monitor ), Beth Lordan’s evocative and heartfelt novel explores the complex emotional terrain of mature marital relationships.

#Review #BearShifter – Daddy Biker Bear (Bears of Forest Heights #1) by: Roxie Ray

I trusted a shifter with my virginity. Until he got me pregnant. Then he rejected me as his mate.

I was young and naive when I fell hard for bad boy Grizz, a shifter who was hot enough to melt my good girl heart. Big mistake. Because when good girls are naughty, they end up pregnant.

Now I’m back in Forest Heights to care for my aunt with my son Rainer—the son I’ve been raising on my own for nine years because gruff, tough Grizz didn’t believe our baby was possible.

But Rainer is living proof that shifters and humans can have babies, and now he’s showing signs of growing up to be just like his daddy. When Grizz realizes Rainer is his, he says he wants to get to know him. And the problem is, I’ll do anything for my son.

Except open my heart to Grizz again. I won’t be rejected twice. And it’s far too dangerous, especially when a rival biker gang has their sights set on his patch of turf…

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I picked up the complete series from amazon I have not read a bear shifter in a while and this one caught my eye. This was a quick read that had me drawn in and not wanting to put it down. I will say there was not a lot of world building kinda figure things out as you read.

Zo was the good girl always keeping on the strait and narrow path. Her sister was the rebellion and died in a car accident. Trying to deal with the death of her sister she was ready to go to college where she could be who she wanted. Over the summer she went to Aunts states away from home. The first day there she met a friend Kim who invited her to a party where she was introduced to Grizz.

Grizz is a bear shifter alpha of his clan/gang. Grizz and Zo spend the summer together and Zo falls in love with Grizz. Zo gives up her virginity to Grizz and even though it is thought that shifters cannot get humans pregnant Zo ends up pregnant.  Grizz gets mad and thinks Zo was cheating on him because there is no way the baby is his. He sends her away and breaks her heart.

9 years later Zo is back in town to take care of her aunt that had a stroke. Zo came face to face with Grizz and he now knows the 8-year-old boy is his there is no denying it. Grizz needs both Zo and Rain in his life but when his clan/gang issues threaten Zo and Rain will he lose them both? When Grizz make the same mistake with Zo again and it could cost him the life of his boy and his own will he be able to make things right once again.

I wish there was a bit more world building in this book. I did like the plot and the chemistry between Zo and Grizz. At times I forgot Zo was only 18 in the beginning and not 21 or 22. I also loved the friendship between Zo and Kim and Zo and her aunt’s relationship. Grizz was a ass at the beginning but by the end I believe he redeemed himself. Forgiveness was given way easier that what I would have be able to do but it was still all in all a good read. I am intrigued to see how Kim and Hutch (Grizz brother) story goes.

#WOTR25 #MC #Audio #MMF – Savage Heat, Royal Bastards MC: Huntsville, AL #1 by K.L. Ramsey

As president of my MC, I’ve always had to hide a part of who I am. I was fine with that until he walked into my life. Now, I can’t shove that half of myself into the dark anymore. My club won’t understand and the woman I want definitely won’t get it, but what choice do I have? I want them both and I’m done with not taking what I want.
Yeah, I’m savage enough to screw the rules to get what I want and I want them.
Both of them—and I won’t settle for less.
You can’t control who you love but sometimes, it’s savage enough to make its own heat.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audiobook.

I have not read any of the Royal Bastard books.  I grabbed this story since this author was going to be at my author event in July.  I wanted to read a book from each author if possible.

I will say I liked the narration.  It was ok.  She did a dine job with all the different voices.  They weren’t my favorite but not a terrible voice.  It was just ok.

I was intrigued that this book was about self-doubting Savage.  He isn’t open about his bisexuality and is afraid of what his club brothers will think of him being with men.  He meets Bowie and they have an instant attraction.  Both men like the other for their ages and body.   We also meet Dallas who is still mad that Savage dumped her after a month of dating a year later.  To me that seems a bit crazy.  To be so upset a year later.  I was like stage 5 clinger.  LOL  Savage said he ghosted because her doesn’t do feeling about really he is confused about his sexuality.

Savage isn’t the best with communication which we all know makes a mess of things.  Bowie and Dallas seem to figure it out between the 2 of them.  When the 3 finally figure things out is a good story.  But there were parts I was able to set the book down because it was a bit of a drag.  But all in all I did enjoy the story.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audiobook.

I will start by saying the narration in this audio book was amazing.  Both narrators did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life for me.

I will say I was excited for Matt’s book after reading book 1.  But I gotta tell ya, he was a major diiiiiiiiiiiiiiick.  Like I really didn’t like him.  OK Lemme say that the prologue broke my heart yes buuuuut he was such an awful guy to Kat when he sees her 10 years later.  I was like WOW Kat kick him right in the dick.  He was hateful and YES, I understand I have had my heart broken BUT at the same time he just didn’t listen.

Kat was a nice girl. She was put in hard positions her whole life by her dad.  Yes, I get why she broke Matt’s heart BUT when she says she still loved him 10 years later even when he was so douche, I was like GIRL NO!

Now the first part of the book I was not a fan of with them reconnecting and him being such as asshole. HOWEVER, once the story of why she needed protection took off I really did enjoy the story.  I liked the who and why of so many aspects.  Was I ok with the 2nd chance when it happened? Yes but at the same time I wish she made Matt grovel for like maybe 10 minutes LOL

So if you can get past the first few chapters with a mega asshat and get into the story I think you will enjoy the book.

Author of the exciting R.I.S.C. Series, Anna Blakely brings you stories of love, action, and edge of your seat suspense. As an avid reader herself, Anna writes what she loves…strong, Alpha heroes and the intelligent, independent heroines they love.

I’m Rayne Lewis. I write military romance. I started writing in 2020, and published my first book, JUSTICE for Mary in May 2021. I write in Susan Stoker’s universe and absolutely LOVE it! I hope to branch out into my own series once my current HELLFORCE series is complete with 6 books. I’m completely awkward and clumsy…but I love to make people smile and/or laugh, so the “skill” of being a klutz isn’t put to waste.

How did you hear about this event?

This answer is two-fold. The basic answer is my bestie Anna Blakely. Which leads to the second part of the answer, I attended WOTR in 2022 and 2023 as a reader.

How many years have you attended?

2 years

What genres do you write?

Military Romance

What is a book of yours you wish more people read?

AVENGING Antonia. Though I love all my books, the start of the series is like anything else…I had no idea what I was attempting to do. hahaha! So, BOOD one is a bit rough, but the STORY itself is heartwarming and suspenseful…all the good things a book should be. I do worry that if readers start at book one, there is a chance they will not continue on into the series…BUT I PROMISE YOU…if you fall in love with the guys (and gals) in book one, you will ABSOLUTELY love the rest of the series. I do get my writing legs under myself as I continued to write, so that is why I say, “Start with book 4.” AVENGING Antonia actually ties into book one, JUSTICE for Mary, so when you discover the Easter egg in book one after reading book 4, I think readers are pleasantly pleased.

What is one fun fact about you?

I am SO socially awkward, but if you ask people, they will say I am the life of the party or I am outgoing…sociable….yadda, yadda, yadda. But BECAUE I am so socially awkward, I push myself SO FAR BEYOND my comfort and try SO HARD to be “normal” that I, mostly, go beyond what is socially acceptable. I’m PEOPLING, but dying a little bit inside each moment. hahaha! So since I DO NOT PEOPLE! WOTR, as my 1st signing, is a HUGE LEAP/accomplishment for me. i will be so far outside my wheelhouse, but loving EVERY minute of this signing. I can’t wait to meet readers! I always say, “Without readers…A book is just a book, and an author is just an author.” These readers are our loudest cheerleaders and our biggest fans! So, as a reader who attends signings and gets the opportunity to meet MY favorite authors, I cannot wait to be on the other side of the table and meet the readers who make HELLFORCE…well, HELLFORCE. Without readers, HELLFORCE would just be a story floating in the ether and a simple dream in my mind and heart. So…LONG explanation SHORT…I am–BIG TIME—a socially awkward fool. hahaha!

#Review #GhostShip – Hull and Fire (The Wards of Minera Book 1) by James W. Cutter

Levy Tren-Ulitese—Lor of the Land and gentleman of high society—is awoken in the early hours of the morning for an emergency: his father’s ship, missing for nine years now, has reappeared near the mouth of its home harbour entirely bereft of its crew. The expedition to the New World, a place they call ‘Minera’, apparently ended in tragedy. But how did the ship sail itself home? What happened to the crew? And what is the strange, dark artifact found aboard her?

Pushed by internal divisions and outside political forces, Levy and his sister are forced to refit the ship and flee the only city they’ve ever called home. Declared fugitives by their father’s old allies, they assemble a strange crew of the desperate and depraved; a turncoat imperial marine, a man that can manipulate the spirit-lines of the world, a war-hero famed for his supernatural accuracy with the musket, and a mute stow-away with mysterious powers. Together, they will follow in the wake of Levy’s father.

Together they will find a new home on the shores of Minera!

Review by Twinsie Kelly

I enjoy finding stories that are truly different. When I read the blurb, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was getting myself into, but I am happy to say that I was completely engrossed by the story from start to finish. As a matter of fact, I finished the book and didn’t realize I finished the book, and that was the point I realized I needed to read more. (Boy that was a mouthful, lol)

There is a LOT going on in Hull and Fire with many complex characters and with pretty elaborate world building going on. One of my only real issues with the story itself is that there are many POVs that this story is told from. It was a little tough trying to keep everyone straight at first. But once I got into a groove, I couldn’t put the book down.

There are mysterious forces at work. A lot of lies and a lot of omissions happening at the same time. When everyone starts to turn on Levy and his kind, he takes things into his own hands. Instead of trying to change the people’s minds and face what can certainly be an awful outcome for his family, he defies the odds and moves on to a new world. It’s a compelling story that had me absolutely captivated. I look forward to finding out what happens next!

Pssst, the ghost ship is only going to be the beginning. It has to be. It was an incredible twist at the end to tie in one of the current characters with Levy’s father, the captain of the ghost ship! Kudos to the author!

#Review #GoddessofDeath – Morana by Piper Laksari-Minenco

My name is Morana. The humans call me Death.

Forget all you thought you knew about myth and folklore. This is an unheard story; the story of death.

A new spin on mythology, told through the perspective of one of the most hated goddesses of them all.

Goodreads

Amazon

Review by Twinsie Kelly

I am a lover of all things mythology so when I seen Morana, I knew that I had to read it. Morana is definitely an interesting and unique spin on the gods and goddesses that we have all come to know. Some we love and some we love to hate. This is a coming-of-age story about Morana, who ultimately becomes the Goddess of Death. Morana is struggling with the gift that the sprits are going to bestow upon her as she fears that she will be hated by everyone.

There is a LOT going on with Morana and the additional characters. The family dynamic is very tense but she makes every effort not to clash with them. She has a schoolmate, Athena, who is the “cool kid” that everyone loves but she constantly locks horns with on the daily. And then there is her girlfriend, Devana. She is so sweet and understanding.

The overall story is really good but there is so much potential for this to be really great! This is a short story and as you got closer to the end, it felt like there were longer breaks in between events. With the jump in between events, I felt like I lost a bit of a connection with the other characters and even Morana while she may have processed what she went through. Overall, the story is very intriguing and is definitely a page turner. I do wish it was a bit longer so that we could discover a bit more about Morana…there is so much more, I just know it!

This is a new author for me, and I didn’t realize she was a young author, but I am extremely impressed! I look forward to reading other works by this author.
