#WOTR #Spotlights- Ava Cuvay

Ava Cuvay

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Ava Cuvay here! I write out of this world romance featuring sassy heroines, often-alien-but-always-sexy heroes, and an alcoholic beverage or two… Set in a galaxy far, far away. I was at a impressionable age when the first Star Wars movie came out (and by “first,” I mean “#4”), and have been a Sci-Fi lover ever since. So it only makes sense I would write about love in a Sci-Fi setting!

I live in central Indiana with a hubby who makes me laugh and kiddos who are growing up way too quickly. I have a passion for the world of wine and spirits, amusement park thrill rides, and laughing at my own foibles (which keep me pretty well-entertained!).

When and Why did you start to write?

I’ve always been writing… but it wasn’t until I turned *cough!*cough!*-something that I considered writing my own novel. With my previous writing experience, and the skill with which I can craft a truly gripping business email (e.g. “Your TPS reports are due.”), I thought being an author would be soooooooo easy! (refer to comment about laughing at my own foibles 😉

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

I love supporting my friends, so I read the works of my fellow writer-peeps, many of whom are attending WOTR. To name a few: Jillian Jacobs, Anya Breton, TC Winters, Lisa Caviness, AD Ellis, Aly Grady, LaNora Mangano, Teresa Kieffer, Shyla Colt, Donya Lynne… Oh, crud, whose name did I forget and whose name did I misspell?!?

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

Writing a good book is way more than being able to put complete sentences together, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Being an Author means I need to be knowledgeable and active in ALL aspects of my writerly business, from the finances to the marketing. It’s a challenge like none I’ve ever undertaken before. Which means it’s also both the most heart-wrenching and soul-satisfying challenge I’ve ever undertaken.

What are you working on now?

Book three of The Heart Nebula Series, currently titled “Blood King.” Ask yourself: What if Count Dracula was really a low-level lord from an alien race of blood suckers? Would you want to meet the King?

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

Panster. I love learning about my characters as I write them. Oooooh, she’s a snarky hair stylist… Who knew?
