#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – Harley Easton

Harley Easton

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Harley Easton – I dabble in a little of everything life offers – reading, writing, singing, acting, cosplaying, board gaming, generally being a nerd. All are great ways to make my insanity seem a little more normal. I have two fur-babies I specialize in erotic, romantic, and speculative fiction, writing and editing independently and for small press publishers. Who knows what kind of trouble I’ll get into next.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

It sounds silly, but I absolutely need a glass of ice nearby. Nothing in it, just ice. I’ll usually write with some instrumental music in the background, but I can crash anywhere to scribble down a few lines.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

The connections you make. I love meeting readers, authors, and organizers. Book people are usually really awesome, so I love walking away with new friends.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Right now, I’d love to meet Jim Butcher or Jane Yolan. Both of them are masters at manipulating folk-lore, fairy elements, and superstition into beautiful stories.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

Consistency is hard for me. Luckily my family and friends are really supportive and let me spend hours in the writing cave when I have a project.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

The day my mom asked to read my book and my dad told me he was proud I was a writer.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I have the copy of Maguerite de Angeli’s Book of Nursery and Mother Goose Rhymes that my aunt let me pour over for hours when I was a child. Not only does it remind me of her every time I see it, the gorgeously illustrated book is what first sparked my love of reading. It got me interested in fairy tales and folk-lore – a life-long obsession of mine that still seeps into my reading and writing.
