#WOTR20 #AuthorSpotlight – CJ Baty

C.J. Baty

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

C.J. Baty presently I live in Southwest Ohio, but I live part time in Seveirville, TN. I published my first book in 2013. Spending time with my grown children is a passion. And I’m looking forward to the day when my husband and I can fully retire and do some traveling. I’ve always been an avid reader, when I was offered the chance to write my own stories by an Indie Publishers I was shocked and thrilled. It has been amazing ride getting my stories down on paper and out into the world. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I have a mixed tape of nature sounds that I listen to most of the time when I’m writing. I love the sounds of a creek flowing or rain falling. My one go to drink is Diet Mt. Dew or coffee if I’m writing in the morning. I have several favorite spots to go to when I want to get away from my office. A local Waffle House where the girls keep my coffee cup full. A bagel/muffin place where my NANO group meets and my local library. It was recently refurbished and it’s an amazing place to work.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Authors! Readers! People! Books! What’s not to like? To be honest, the moments where I get to meet someone who loved something I wrote and they are as excited about it as I am. Also, fangirling over authors that I adore, that’s a definite plus as well.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

My unicorn author was Josh Lanyon! I by ‘was’ I mean I finally met her last year at the GayRomanceLit event. She and I were both signing authors. It was the most exciting moment for me. I was totally tongue tied but I’ll never forget it.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I’m definitely a sit and go girl. If the words aren’t flowing, I’ve been known to pack up the laptop and tell my husband ‘be back later’. He knows I’m going to find someplace to inspire me.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

My favorite moment so far, came at 2019 Writer’s On the River event. I finally got to meet a reader who had been following me for sometime now. We’d chatted on line and I knew I’d love her. She surprised me at the event but the sweet thing was so excited she was blushing and couldn’t speak. That touched my heart so much, but I was just excited to meet her.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I have a signed copy of Josh Lanyon’s The Dark Tide (Bk 5 in the Adrien English Series). Meeting Josh and having her sign that book was amazing highlight in my life. I cherish the book and that memory.
