His past broke him.
Kadin’s siblings believe he only cares about pure dragon bloodlines and that is why he refuses to take a human mate. They don’t know about his dark past. A day centuries ago that changed him forever and left him crippled with fear. When he sees Avery, however, his dragon knows she belongs to him. The beast doesn’t care she’s human, but Kadin can’t forget his past.
She can heal him.
Avery has spent her life second guessing herself. From her body image, to allowing her brothers to convince her that an EMT was a more suitable job than a firefighter. When a shifter shows up at her station, she has no idea the impact he will have on her. Kadin is bigger than life and hotter than any fire she’s ever seen. When a friendly date turns into a night she will never forget, she’s left wondering why she can’t let him walk away.
When Kadin finally realizes he can’t live without Avery, he might be forced to do just that. Tragedy strikes not once but twice and threatens to break the couple apart forever.
Review by Twinsie Angie
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
I love this series and the lore about the dragon shifters in this series. I love the family of shifters we have met and watched them all pair up with their mates. Now its good old stubborn, hardheaded dragon shifter/fire chief Kaden. He is finally over his sister marrying a human, but he refuses to do that. For his people he needs to marry a pure bred or a halfling. Too dang bad his dragon is not on board once he sees Avery.
Avery has been run over by all the men in her family. They made her fee less then and really pushed her out of her love for being a firefighter and into being an EMT even though she was the best in her class. When the human force asks a shifter to help them, she is stunned stupid at the hot man in front of her. Too bad she is down on herself and believes no one like him would like someone like her.
Kaden and his dragon are smitten with Avery. His dragon is ready to claim her but Kaden…remember when I said he was stubborn and hardheaded…well he won’t. He pushes Avery away.
Kaden slowly reveals a history of loss the family is unaware which helps them understand him a little ebit better BUT they are still not happy he won’t accept his mate when she is perfect except for the fact she is a human …FYI only he has issue with that small detail.
Kaden and Avery have some turmoil with some bad people who do stuff that make Kaden and Avery face up to how they feel before they lose what they might have.
Kaden was a fun character to read. He was sooo stupid and stubborn but yet he loves his family to hard. Avery was just the perfect heroin. She was unconfident but not annoying with her self-doubts. She is sassy and loves his family. I also loved her sister and her relationship. Kelly gives Avery the confidence she needs along with Kaden’s sister Bella.
Award winning and bestselling author Valerie Twombly grew up watching Dark Shadows over her mother’s shoulder, and from there her love of the fanged creatures blossomed. Today, Valerie has decided to take her darker, sensual side and put it to paper.
When she is not busy creating a world full of steamy, hot men and strong, seductive women, she juggles her time between a full-time job, hubby and dog, in Northern IL.
