Happy Pride Month everyone! Twinsie Tenise here. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to answer the questions for our pride month celebration. I thought hard about the questions and had fun coming up with them. I love that the authors seemed to have as much fun answering them. We will be celebrating all month with author spotlights as well as reviews for some of the LGBTQIA books we’ve read this year. Check back daily to learn more about that days featured author or book and add to your TBR piles. I hope you enjoy getting to know a little about all of these wonderful authors and their work.
🏳🌈Tell us your name and a little about yourself?
Daryl Banner. I’m a Texas-based MM romance author and composer.
🏳🌈How many books have you written? Do you have a favorite?
Oh, goodness. Excluding boxed sets and anthologies, I think I have 65 titles now. Picking a favorite hurts the feelings of the other books, but if you keep this just between us, probably “When I See You Again” 😉
🏳🌈Do you write one book and finish it completely before starting the next? If not, how do you keep yourself from confusing the projects?
I rarely work on more than one book at a time, but when I do, they tend to be from completely different genres. (I also write dystopian fantasy and paranormal.) The different genres tends to help keep it sorted in my head.
🏳🌈What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is it a default setting?
I’m so boring, I write in Times New Roman usually so I can see all the formatting clearly. But if it’s an established series, I’ll write in whatever font the previous book was set in.
🏳🌈How do you ensure your LGBTQ characters feel authentic and mutifaceted, rather than just serve a plot function?
I’m gay myself, but there are so many facets to being LGBTQ and so many aspects of sexual expression that even straight people experience. It’s important to be truthful to the character themselves regardless of identity. I strive to understand them in all aspects as fully as possible before I write. I like everything to occur to me before I plot to avoid backtracking.
🏳🌈What is something you have used for a bookmark that IS NOT a bookmark?
My sock. Literally my sock. I had nothing else and I was in a hurry.
🏳🌈Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what are some of your favorite genres or songs?
Yes! Though I usually need lyric-less music, and I’m a gamer, so I tend to listen to video game soundtracks/OSTs the most often. I’m a huge fan of Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy series) and Yasunori Mitsuda as well as Michiru Yamane (composer of some Castlevania soundtracks).
🏳🌈What is a super specific detail you know about one of your characters that has no relevance to the story?
Billy Tucker-Strong (Spruce Texas series) has a secret ingredient he puts in his Football Sundaes that even his husband Tanner doesn’t know about. (And even I don’t know about. What the heck is it, Billy? Tell me! 😤)
