#WOTR23 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – Jenna Jacob

Jenna Jacob

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Jenna Jacob – I write steamy, panty-melting BDSM, Rock Star, Cowboy, and contemporary romance. I’m a mom of four, grandma of six, and I live in Kansas with my hunky-hubby, Sean, and two fur babies. I’ve been writing for ten years and currently working on my thirty-fifth book. WOOT!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Definitely the first because you inevitably set something in stone you wish you hadn’t and have to plot around it. LOL

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I like coming up with unique and sometimes quirky characters. Nobody wants to read a rinse and repeat of your previous hero or heroine.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Never give up. Even if you have to rip out chapter after chapter – don’t give up.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Between writing and handling administrative stuff, about ten to twelve hours.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Wow – that’s like trying to pick out your favorite child. Impossible. I love them all for different reasons.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Tempting My Billionaire Daddy. I’d go with Anna Kendrick as Blair and Michele Marrone as Dalton (Sir Ink) **I love the way he say’s “Baby girl”. ~Whimper!*

What is your definition of success?

When a reader tells me they loved my story.

Genre: M/M Romance
Trope: Annoyances to lovers, age-gap, older submissive/arrogant young dominant

Synopsis

Hendrix

What’s the only thing more annoying than my years-too-young neighbor?
The way I want him more than air.

There are plenty of things I don’t like about my new home in California, and my neighbor, Miles, is at the top of the list. He’s smug and arrogant, he speaks out of turn. And even though I should have learned my lesson about fast-talking, younger, dominant men when I broke up with my ex, I want him. For better or worse, Miles and I are on the same page and that’s why we decide there’s no harm in taking things between us someplace a little more private.

Good thing it’s only a physical connection between us because I could never be with a man like him for the long term…

Miles

Can I tease my well-dressed and thick-thighed older neighbor into bed?
I’m not sure, but there’s no harm in trying.

There’s never been a man who twists me up inside the way Hendrix does, and from the very first time he tells me yes, I know I’m going to demand a thousand more agreements out of his gorgeous mouth before I’m anywhere close to being done with him. He says he only wants me for my body, but it’s not long before things between us feel anything but casual. Hendrix thinks I can’t tell he’s being cautious with me, that I don’t know his worries about the past repeating itself are a constant threat in his head.

Joke’s on him, though. Hendrix makes me want to be a better man and I’m not going to stop until I prove that I’m worthy of a partner like him, even if I stumble more than once along the way.

What’s the only thing scarier than falling in love with the older man who’s determined not to trust me? Giving him the space to discover he can.

Necessary Space is a 76,000 word age gap romance where coffee is a love language, annoying neighbors become lovers, kneeling is so much more than an act of submission, and love can be found all in good time.

#WOTR23 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – Melonie Johnson

Melonie Johnson

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m Melonie Johnson, aka #thewritinglush – I’m a former high school English and Theatre teacher turned full time fiction peddler. My main genres are contemporary romance and romantic comedies, and I’ve recently branched out into “seasoned romance” (featuring main characters in their 40s and up). I’ve always been a bookworm, and my love of reading definitely plays into every story I write. I’ve lived in the Chicago area all my life, growing up in the northern suburbs, attending college in the city, and raising a family here as well. I’m a Shakespeare geek and a Star Wars nerd, and have been dreaming up meet cutes ever since Han and Leia first kissed.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I think this changes depending on so many factors. The most recent book I finished was the second in the series and the hardest I’ve ever written, but in general, I’d say the first book in a series is harder because you’re starting from scratch and building this world and creating characters out of nothing, and that takes a lot of mental energy and time!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I am constantly jotting down ideas for both current and future projects. The notes app on my phone is bursting with little snippets of stuff to incorporate into my stories, details absorbed from the world around me. It could be a song or a conversation, a news story or an article I read, or just an idea while in the shower or on a walk – inspiration comes from everywhere and as long as I continur to be inspired, things will continue to be fresh!

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

This is a tough one, because I’m not great about following my own advice – but it’s very important to make time to refill the well. Step away from the manuscript and spend time with family and friends. Take a mental break from your own story to enjoy other stories via books, movies, TV, etc. Get moving – and get outside when/if you can – I find that to be one of the best ways to relieve stress. Publishing can be a brutal business, I recently contributed to the book, WHAT I WISH I’D KNOWN, a collection of essays from writers meant to inspire other writers, and the focus of my advice was to encourage aspiring authors to “find their island” by connecting with a group of authors who support and encourage each other. It can make such a difference when navigating the challenges of being a writer to have a safe space to decompress, as well as having people who understand what you are going through be there to celebrate the highs and commiserate during the lows.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

In an ideal world, when everything went according to plan, in a typical day I’d spend about four hours of solid writing, with another two dedicated to “author business” such as connecting with readers on my socials, putting together newsletters, updating my website, etc. Unfortunately, as much as I try to create a regular schedule, I am a “feast or famine” type of author, which means there are days I won’t get any words at all, and then others when I’m on the laptop for sixteen to twenty hours, pounding out chapter after chapter.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Such a hard question! I’m going to have to go with a fan favorite — Theo Wharton – the hero from my second published book, SMITTEN BY THE BRIT. He’s charming and dashing, but also incredibly loyal and kind hearted. From Darcy to Prince Eric, Theo is many of my fictional crushes rolled into one. He is, quite honestly, irresistible.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

This is always a fun concept to think about. I think all my books would make great movies, of course, but my first book, GETTING HOT WITH THE SCOT, would make such a fun film. I can already picture that opening scene at Edinburgh Castle. Logan, the hero, would of course have to be played by a Scot, and I think Richard Madden would be a perfect fit. As for the brown-haired, brown-eyed heroine, Cassie, Zoey Deutch would do nicely.

What is your definition of success?

On the surface, this is something that is constantly changing, the bar always rising higher: more books, more sales, more money, more awards, more recognition… but when I dig down and think about what I truly think success means to me as an author, I’d have to say it is finding a healthy work/life balance that is productive but not exhausting. Writing books I enjoy for an audience who craves them – that is my definition of success.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

As the Writing Lush, I like to say that books and booze are my brand, and while it’s true I love the combination of a great book with a great cocktail, it’s more about embracing a lush life and treating yourself by indulging in life’s little pleasures – escaping into another world through books is definitely one of those, especially when you can do it while relaxing on the beach (or even on the couch) – it’s about carving out time for yourself and savoring experiences.

#wotr #attendingauthor #standalone Until You (Happily Ever Alpha World) by Samantha Lind

Cameron Burgress was ready for a new start.

New city, new job, and maybe one day, a new love. She just didn’t realize how quickly that could all happen until she walked into a tattoo shop, finally ready to get the ink she’d wanted since her fiancé died, nearly four years ago.

Ethan O’Neill had everything. Until one day, he didn’t.

After an off-ice injury stripped him of his hockey career, he started over in life, pursuing his other passion—tattoos. He’d never been the kind of guy to want to settle down, but that all changed one day, when a knock-out beauty strolled into his shop and into his life.

An instant attraction and a little bit of ink is the perfect mix for two people ready for change.

Review by Twinsie Dee

Cam has gone through the one thing that most people would never think to go through, finding the love of her life only to lose him 3 weeks before their wedding. 3 years later and a new job offer she finally decided to move on and to a new city, a fresh start being back with one of her friends. New City new Cam and she wants to dedicate her past love with a tattoo in memory of him, and with her bestie at her side she goes to the tattoo shop and is stopped dead in her tracks with the most gorgeous man shes seen since her first love pasted away, it was sparks from the beginning and both Cam and Ethan have never felt this way before with someone else. will these two let their natural chemisty bring them together or will they just stay friends. this book was so good very cute, sexy, and everything you would want for a quick read

Samantha Lind is a contemporary romance author. Having spent the first 27 years of her life in Alaska, she now calls Iowa home where she lives with her husband and two sons. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, watching hockey (Go Knights Go!), and listening to country music.

#WOTR23 #attendingauthor #authorspotlight – Tricia Andersen

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Tricia Andersen and I am an author from Iowa. I write paranormal, Greek gods, contemporary, historical , and fighter romance. I have three kids and one four legged baby. I’m also a huge advocate and fan of women’s wrestling and love to travel with my husband.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I think the first book in a series is harder. Once the first book is done, I already have established characters and locations. From there I just need to give the book its own story.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I like to try to write stories that are different than what are on the market. I love to explore genres that I was interested in college and incorporate it into my writing.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Take time for yourself. Find time to take a break or set a reward for yourself. And never give up on what you love.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I spend an hour or two writing each day. I do wish it was more.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Freddy from the Gods of DC series. He loves without judgement and sticks up for the entire family.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

I always envisioned current WWE announcer Wade Barrett as Sloan O’Riley. I would love to see KJ Apa as Freddy.

What is your definition of success?

Being happy with what you are doing to the point that it’s all you want to do.

#Review – The Reluctant Assassins – Clara and Damien (Book 2): Delta Underground Operatives by Sarah Noffke

The Reluctant Assassins : Clara and Damien (Delta Underground Operatives Book 2) by [Sarah Noffke]

Werewolves are the worst.

Especially a lone one…

Clara and Damien know they must bring down a rogue werewolf to get to his boss.

Taz Kiera must be stopped.

The mentalist has gone too far—abducting coma patients, siphoning their powers and abusing magic.

But to get to him, the unlikely pair of assassins are going to have to kill a rabid werewolf.

That won’t be easy, but it’s definitely going to be entertaining.

Vampires love killing werewolves.

Empaths don’t like hurting anyone.

But together, Clara and Damien must stop this evil before it goes too far and harms too many.

Can this duo join forces to stop a power so fierce it could destroy humanity?

If they do, they win.

If they don’t, then everyone loses.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

What a mindbender! Wait, mind melder is probably a better description. Clara is literally taking her mind on the riskiest journey ever and Damien can only be there to support her. Clara and Damien have had a moment to rest, but now it is time to regroup. Clara is struggling with the fact that she killed someone. Even though they were awful and that person didn’t care about life, Clara is still bothered by it. Damien can feel this, and he is unsure of how to actually help Clara. The longer these two work together, their connection, from the puddle and simply by being friends, grows so much stronger. This story really comes to life as they are working together like never before. Watching each other make sacrifices for each other and for the good of all humanity, is extremely humbling. They have to stop at nothing to stop Taz from siphoning power from the coma patients. This journey brings planning to an all new level and there is no more just letting things happen. There is plenty of action and tons of witty comebacks for our favorite duo, that will keep you completely invested in this story. Now, I am impatiently waiting for the next book. Thank you Sarah for keeping me entertained!

#WOTR23 #attendingauthor #authorspotlight – Michele Shriver

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Michele Shriver. I write women’s fiction, contemporary and sports romance, rom com and LGBTQ+ fiction. In my day job, I am an attorney specializing in criminal defense and juvenile and child welfare law. That doesn’t leave much time for writing these days, but escaping into my fictional world is a good stress break from work. And it’s cheaper than therapy.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The ones after it, because you have to keep track of everything that’s happened so far and be consistent to the world you’ve created. With the first book in a series, everything is fresh and new with unlimited possibilities. It gets harder as you go along.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

These days, not nearly as much as I’d like due to my work schedule, but I try to get an hour or so in each night during the week, and a couple hours a day on weekends.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

All of my characters are special to me, but I have to keep going back to Kelsey. She was a supporting character in my first novel, After Ten, as the significant other of one of my MCs, and then she went on to star in her own book, Tears and Laughter. Now I’ve come full circle, and I’m writing the next generation, with Kel and Sarah’s kids getting their own books, most recently in my newest release, Tranquil Harbor. That of course means Kel still shows up to try to steal the show. LOL. So many books and characters later, she’s still my favorite and an absolute blast to write. It’s never work when Kel is in a scene, because her dialogue just flies off the page.

What is your definition of success?

I’ve never measured success in terms of sales or money. I write because I have stories in my head that demand to be told, and as a result of being an author, I’ve met many fabulous people and had the opportunity to travel to places I otherwise might never have gotten to, and my life if richer because of it. That’s the true measure of success.

#WOTR23 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight -Deanna L. Rowley

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Deanna L.Rowley. I have over 40 books published and I’ve only been publishing since 2020. However, I’ve been writing since 2014 and stock piled a back list before publishing that first book. Not only do I write my own books, but I also write in the worlds of Samantha A. Cole, Susan Stoker, and Elle James.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The ones after it. I’m a pantser, and if I don’t write down characters names, I don’t always remember them in the future books. Nor what some of the plot lines are.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Being a pantser I let my imagination go. I don’t hold back on how crazy, twisted, or shocking something can be.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

I can speak for other writers, because we are all different. For myself, if something gets to be too much, I take a break. Get up and walk away from the computer, walk around the house, vent, clean, do whatever to get back into your own headspace. If you have someone who you talk about your books to, like plot lines and such, talk to them. Tell them why your emotional, whether it’s a particular scene, or the plot isn’t going the way you want.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Straight writing? 6-8 hours a day, especially if I’m in the zone. But there are other things that I do also, like editing, uploading books to the different sites. Making covers. On a typical day, I try to work in my office from 8am to 6pm doing authorly things which includes writing.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Emma Watts the heroine from the Love Found Trilogy. Her life gave her lemons and she not only made lemonade, she made the entire lemonade stand. No matter what life threw at her, she always got up and started again.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Angie Harmon would play Aimee Harkin from my Spies, Lies, & Rides series. She’s tough, but not afraid to show a softer side. I’m not sure who I’d get to play her love interest.

What is your definition of success?

Be recognizable at a signing. Like readers and other authors see me and automatically know who I am. Also, when it comes to financial success, I want to be able to pay my bills every months from the sales of my books with having some left over.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?
