#WOTR23 #attendingauthor #spotlight – Tabetha Waite

Tabetha Waite

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Tabetha Waite – I write romance with adventure and heart! I’m a small town girl from Missouri who had big dreams of writing. Romance became my first love in high school when I started reading Harlequin and the timeless Gothics. I published my first book in 2016 and since then, have become a multi-award winning hybrid author with more than 30 published novels and novellas between indie and various small press publishers.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Generally the very last one! You feel like you are building all the anticipation until the last one and you want it to be worth the wait for the reader, while enjoying all the characters until then.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Always expect the unexpected! I like to add twists!

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t take the fun out of what you love. When you do, it becomes a chore, and not the enjoyment that you found at the beginning.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I work a full time job, so I generally spend about 2-3 hrs a day after supper in my office. And on a weekend I don’t have to go anywhere, I am usually there. I don’t watch much TV anymore!

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I will always love Orion and Athena. They were the couple from “Why the Earl is After the Girl,” the first book I got published.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

I honestly don’t even think about that. lol. I just strive to make my readers happy. But if I made a bestseller list, that would be pretty cool!

What is your definition of success?

Having someone tell me that they liked my stories. It’s as simple as that. If I made someone smile and brightened their day, then I did my job as a storyteller.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

Other than writing, I like to collect dolls! Most people think it’s creepy, but if there are any of my fellow peeps out there, I’d love to hear from you! Oh, and I’m a BIG Beauty and the Beast fan!

#wotr #attendingauthor #partofaseries Touching Oblivion (Tasting Madness 2) by Albany Walker

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

She gave, we took, then I demanded more.

I had my reasons, but none of them are good enough to validate what happened.

I need her to forgive me, but I don’t know if I went too far this time.

Going through the motions.

Starting over in a new state, at a new school, is easy compared to losing something I never really had in the first place, but I’ve gotten good at faking it.

Too bad I feel like this time pretending I’m okay might actually break me.
Touching Oblivion is the second book of the Tasting Madness Series. This is Reverse Harem novel with adult themes and situations told in duel POV.

Review by Twinsie Dee

Waylynn was just accused of being a junkie because Memphis seen her pill bottle and it gave him a flash back to seeing his parents like that. She kicked both of the guys out and went totally quiet on them not returning text, phone calls and even thinking about dropping her class to stay out of the path of the guys. But finally, Memphis gets her to listen to him and tells her that he’s sorry and tells her his feelings for her. Waylynn forgives them and they are better then ever learning more about each other and in more ways then one Waylynn is learning to trust Oz and Memphis to the point where she is starting to tell Memphis a bit about her past and taking her walls down a little at a time. Things keep getting in the way for these 3 will they be able to keep their relationship strong and how will Waylynn feel about adding 1 more into her heart, rumors, pictures and secrets will either tear them apart for good or make them stronger then ever. I didnt think i could love these characters even more then i did but oh buddy did Albany make them way better the heartaches the emotions and the sexy scenes are hot that your going to need a fan to cool you down.

Albany lives in Michigan where she’s happily married to her high school sweetheart. She spends most of her time juggling her four children’s extracurricular activities, with her nose stuck in a book. When not reading you can find her writing her very own book boyfriends. Albany’s passion is writing romance with real characters that are far from perfect, but always seem to find their own happily ever afters.

#WOTR23 #attendingauthor #spotlight – Becca Jameson

Becca Jameson

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Becca Jameson. I live in Houston, TX, with my husband, my son, and the crazy cat and dog! In my free time… Oh, wait, I don’t have free time! I write. I read. I edit. lol

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The others after it.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I remember nothing. So, it could be fresh because I don’t have any idea what I did before. OR, it could be that I’m just repeating myself over and over. Shrug. No one has complained.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Turn everything off and write in half hour increments.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Five hours.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

It changes, but I think Lucy is my current favorite. No idea why. That book is raw and has stuck with me.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Good golly I have no idea! Severed Dreams might be good. It’s a newer stand alone. A total mind fuck. No idea who would star in it.

What is your definition of success?

Loving what you do.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

I love my job. I’m so grateful I get to do this every day. I’d rather be writing than anything else.

#WOTR23 – #Review – Between the Pines by Jennifer Daniels

Between the Pines by [Jennifer Daniels]

On her eighteenth birthday, Sloan Remson thought it would be just like any other day. She went to school, was excused early to get her driver’s permit, then was taken out for a nice lunch by her mother.

Waking up the next morning was an entirely different story. Shivering and in the middle of the clearing up the road and being warmed by a wolf should have scared Sloan stupid. Instead the beautiful snow-white wolf was calming and gave her peace.

Jump seven years into the future, and after several beers with her BFF Mary, once again Sloan finds herself alone in the middle of a clearing. But this time with the handsome Fletcher Remington watching over her. They were friends throughout school and she’d had a secret crush on him for as long as she could remember. Within a few minutes of catching up, secrets are revealed. After a quick mind-dive from Mary, who also happens to be a witch, Sloan finds out Fletcher is a wolf and that he is her mate.

How can Sloan be anyone’s mate when she can’t even shift into the one thing she should be able to? She is a supernatural dud who is in love with a snow-white wolf. Let the adventures begin.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

One can really start questioning their self, especially when they sleepwalk and wake up in the clearing between the pines…with a wolf. However, the second time this happens, she wakes up with Fletcher watching over her. These two have been friends since they were little, but nothing ever came of it. Ultimately, the more these two are together, the stronger the pull is between the two.

Between the Pines was a really sweet, YA/NA fated mates story that did have a sweet happily ever after. The relationship evolving between Sloan and Fletcher is very cute and the fact that they are learning with each other is super adorable. Chivalry is not dead, folks!

I feel that some parts of the book were rushed and not enough explanation in some areas. There was a sort of restlessness that I felt waiting for some turbulence to happen that would really push our MC, but it wasn’t quite as grand as I expected. I wish it was a bit longer so that we could learn more about the other characters’ pasts and to possibly give the antagonist a bigger part. Overall, this was a cute read.

**********Spoiler Alert***************

There are a few things that I felt needed more explanation and the reason why I am giving this 4 stars, instead of 5. A lot of familial secrets are uncovered and Sloan finds out that her father is a wolf. This was kept from her for her entire life. I was a little confused by this because she knew of her mother and her BFF being witches, so I am not really sure why her father being a wolf, and a high-ranking wolf at that, was being kept from her. Sloan really just sort of “went with it”. She questioned things to herself but there were never any real explanations. So, the entire time I waited for something really crazy to happen so that this would eventually be uncovered, but it never did. Additionally, when Sloan and Fletcher bonded, it was discovered that they are the King and Queen of all the wolves. Things were then very rushed and I think some of the “meat and potatoes” of the story were missed.

#WOTR23 #attendingauthor #spotlight – Melissa Haag/ MJ Haag

Melissa Haag

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Melissa, and I think my characters lead more interesting lives than I do. lol

I’m a mom of three, author of 50+ (I think) titles, a proudly independent business woman, habitual snacker, and connoisseur of desserts. I love being happy and write stories laced with humor. I’m a social introvert who enjoys a good thunderstorm and is currently in love with k-dramas on Viki.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Writing a book is like going on the best date of your life. It’s a little nerve-racking at the start, but once you get going, it’s amazing and fun. And you never want it to end. Ever. But it always has to. So, I’d say the final books in any series are the hardest. It’s never easy to find a satisfying way to say goodbye.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

For me, it’s all about the characters and their “flaws.” It’s not enough to write someone in an abusive relationship desperate to know what healthy love feels like. I’m also going to give her a medical condition that causes inopportune fainting, a low sex drive but a strong desire for children, and stick her with an awkward co-dependant roommate situation. (Demon Discord under my MJ Haag pen name)

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

There’s a difference between learning from your peers by watching what they do and comparing yourself to others. The former is smart; the latter will erode your self-confidence.

If you find yourself checking your social media outlets every five minutes, it’s time for a break. Boundaries create healthy relationships…especially the ones authors have with social media. Don’t let it own you.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

3-4 hours on actual words. (But I tend to work a full 8-9 hours since writing is only 40% of an author’s job.)

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

Oh boy…this is a tough one. I have over 50+ books between my pen names.

But, if I had to pick one character, it would be Sam from the Judgment of the Six series (by Melissa Haag). He’s an older wolf shifter and the guardian of one of the MCs. When I wrote him, I absolutely pictured him as Sam Elliott.

What is your definition of success?

Waking up happy.

Time is precious, and the number of days we have is finite. I’m trying to slow down and find comfort, wonder, and humor in each moment. If I can wake up happy, it means I did all the right things the day before and plan to do all the right things again today.

However, the moment he lays eyes on the new tattoo artist on the block, he can’t help the instant pull toward the man.

Meeting Leighton throws Jett for a curve. He’s forced to recognize he’s got a lot to learn about himself, and he quickly realizes he actually likes the man he’s uncovering. #WOTR23 #attendingauthor #spotlight – Audrey Simmons

Audrey Simmons

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi my name is Audrey. I write YA high fantasy and dystopian scifi (always with a thread of romance) and under a pen name I’ll be publishing steamy fantasy romance. I really like to focus on the characters and how they’re dealing with the chaos of their lives. The more angst the better. I also love world building and creating interesting magic systems. When I’m not writing, I’m making art, playing games, or reading.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I only have one book out, the first in a series, and I’m working on the second at the moment. Right now the second one definitely feels harder but the first one took so much more time because not only was I writing the story but I was building the world and figuring out the characters.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Take breaks both from writing and social media. It can be easy to fall prey to comparing yourself to others. Everyone is at their own place in their writing journey so it’s best to compare yourself only to yourself.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I try to spend at least an hour writing every day but some days I write the whole day. Though in the past I was more of a sporadic writer.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

My favorite right now is one from a steamy series that will be under a pen name so I’ll talk about one from Child of the Moon instead. Hemi is my favorite character in that series. He’s just a lot of fun and very easy going. He keeps his head on in stressful situations and always has his friends backs.

What is your definition of success?

Success was publishing a book and I’ve done that. Now I guess success will be finishing the series and getting it out there.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

I’m really excited for the chance to be at Writers on the River ^_^ I’ve been a table buddy the past two events and it’s a blast.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

I look forward to each installment of the Brie series from Red.  This story has grown so much from when I started to read it YEARS ago….like YEARS!  LOL  I feel like this book is setting up some things to come in the future.  We did move our characters along but I feel like something is coming in the next book or two!!

Brie and Sir start this book out with a surprise trip with a good friend to celebrate the future of the group and special steps their friends are making.  I was so happy with the beginning of the story.  Seeing our cast of characters so happy and moving toward their HEA’s is amazing.

OF COURSE, no book is complete without a visit from our favorite Russian making Brie forget some of the troubles in her life with the beast and Holloway.  We also have a great fantasy scene with Brie and Sir.  Which is always delicious reading but seeing Sir/Thane with his kids makes me love him even more.

I loved seeing The Wolf and the bond he and Brie have but hearing from Tono as well.

The biggest and saddest part was Grey and how devastated he is after he told us what he did at the end of the last book.  Hearing what he tells Brie and he heart right now made my heart hurt for the honorable man.

Like I said this was a good book but after what Rytsar tells us at the end when he is with Brie and Sir makes me thing big stuff is happening next book.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I love when a new Brie book is released. The journey’s Brie goes on always warms my heart. Especially when all her friends are involved in them.

This one starts off with Brie Sir and the kids being invited on a cruise for a special event for a very special friend.  Brie has a chance to get to know Master Nosh and his sub Nenove while on the cruise which ends up being a blessing for Brie and her movie.

Brie is still shook up over Marquis Grey and Holloway when our wonderful Russian Sadist “storms” the ship and whisks Brie, Sir and the kiddos away on a wonderful mini getaway that helps Brie live in the moment and forget.

My heart aches for Grey and all he has gone through and going through. I loved catching up with Lea and Mary. Even Farlan got some much needed closure although it was hard for him.

I love catching up on all these characters I cannot help but want to know what the next journey for Brei will be. I know it will be an emotional ride but oh what a ride it will be.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audio book.

I was super excited to start a new to me author and a new MC series.  I love love love me a good MC series.  The way this book and series started did not disappoint me at all.

I want to start by saying the narration *chef’s kiss* Emma was amazing!!  I absolutely am blow away by all the voiced she maintained through the book, and I understand the series as well.  Narration can make or break a book and Emma made it for me.

This book starts out and our girl Gwen is in a BAD situation to say the least.  She is essentially about to be assaulted and killed by the man she loved. SO to say she has a bad picker might be an understatement.  We meet Gwen, her brother who is hot as helllll named Ian, Amy her bestie , and her posse while she is recuperating.  Gwen decides she needs to GTF outta New York.  She and her bestie move to a small town in California.  From jump upon arrival in California we meet Cade. He is everything we readers want in an alpha male : Possessive, kind, bad ass, and smoking hot.

The relationship between Gwen and Cade is all over the place at times.  Given her past we can understand but when they (and by they I mean She) gives in to it….FIREWORKS!!!  They have a lot of drama to deal with like some of the club members not being fans of her, the not so super great ex, sweet butts causing drama, and miscommunication between the two.

What I loved about this book was the fact we get to see so many different sides of each character.  The book is in Gwen’s POV but we get a couple POV of Cade at the right time.

Brock and Amy got me soooo exited for their book.  I started and am LOVING it!!  Amy is the best best friend you could ever want.  But the guy who has my heart …yup its Bull.  I need to read his book. I need to see that broken man mended by the love of someone special!!

Anne Malcom has been an avid reader since before she can remember, her mother responsible for her book addiction. It started with magical journeys into the world of Hogwarts and Middle Earth, then as she grew up her reading tastes grew with her. Her obsession with books and romance novels in particular gave Anne the opportunity to find another passion, writing. Finding writing about alpha males and happily ever afters more fun than reading about them, Anne is not about to stop any time soon.

We are THE TWINSIES… We love to read…We love to promote the authors we read… and we love to stir up TROUBLE… It's who we are and what we do
