#Review #NewRelease – In Between – An MMF Romance (Love is Love Series) by Andi Jaxon

I’m the preacher’s daughter.

Dylan is the punk son of the bigoted sheriff.

Julian the new kid in town everyone talks about in whispers and avoids like the plague.

Dylan and Julian shouldn’t want each other.

It’s dangerous.

This town won’t accept them and yet I run towards the fire because love deserves a chance.

It’s not just them that’s in danger this time.

They both want me too.

I crave them and all they can offer me.

But I can’t have them.

It’s wrong. Perverted. Immoral. And I’m a good church girl.

At least, that’s what everyone thinks…

Can we hide who we are from a town who’s against us or will we be burned by their hatred?

*This is Mary’s story and can be read as a stand alone but will be best enjoyed after reading Bully King. This is an interracial MMF story and will have triggering language and situations due to racism and homophobia. If you would like a list of triggers in this book, please visit www.andijaxon.com/trigger-warnings

This book. Man this book. It felt like going home. I love this world and these characters so so much.

In Between is about Mary, Julian and Dylan. It’s an MMF story and man, once the sexy times start happening, they’re highly explosive.

Now for the review: We first meet Mary in Bully King. She’s Jonah’s sister – if you’ve read that book, yay! If not, grab it now! – She’s strong and fights for what she believes in. I wish I was half as strong as she was when I was her age. It would have made highschool so much easier. Anyway.

Julian is the new kid in town but isn’t taken well, based on the colour of his skin.

Dylan is a local bad boy, who says exactly what’s on his mind and uses sarcasm to mask his emotions, since he doesn’t know how to deal with them in the first place.

Attraction blossoms between the three of them. Things start getting hot and heavy first between the boys and then once Mary is involved, wowza.

But of course, things aren’t all flowers and puppies as time wears on.

Someone wants Mary. Apparently he thinks her good girl act is just that, an act. He’s dangerous and the boys try and do what they can to protect her but of course, they aren’t always around.

One thing leads to another and the boys have to rescue Mary before things get really bad. I won’t say exactly what happens but make sure to one-click this story to find out!

Add to the fact that both Julian and Dylan are dealing with their own personal issues. Man, it was heart breaking to read. Andi sure knows how to write grumpy boys. I thought Roman from Bully King was bad. He’s a kitten compared to Dylan in my personal opinion. Don’t tell him I said that.

If you love MMF type books, be sure to grab this one. It does deal with triggering situations. ex. racism, homophobia, etc.

Andi Jaxon writes these difficult subjects expetionally well. I’m in awe of her and her bravery to take on something that unfortunately still happens quite a lot on this world.

If I could keep these characters safe, I would. If you’re reading this, know that you are safe with me. Always.

#WOTR22 #Audio #SeriesFinale – Love and Neckties by Lacey Black

Love and Neckties (Rockland Falls Book 4)

For Samuel Grayson, everything is black or white. As a funeral director, there’s no room for in-between. He’s accustomed to dealing with life and death, though he’s definitely more comfortable with the latter. Especially when it comes to a chaotic, petite, feisty ball of energy. Freedom Rayne. Samuel’s pretty sure her goal is to make his life hell, or so it appears. When Samuel boards a flight to Las Vegas for his sister’s wedding, the last thing he expects is to share it with the one woman who drives him crazy.

Freedom is eccentric and completely content with it. Floating around from job to job, she finds peace and tranquility in everything she does, including tormenting poor, uptight Samuel Grayson. When she finds herself on the same flight as him for her best friend’s wedding, she sees this as the perfect opportunity to get under his skin, something she tries to do every chance she gets. The problem is the more time she spends with him, the more she likes him.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Not for Samuel and Freedom. Will they be able to forget about their trip when they return to Rockland Falls? What if one mistake turns out to be the best thing ever?

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

LAWD!!!  Sammy and Free!!  You two have been killing me this series!!  I mean GAH!!  I was so excited when I learned that Free was going to be Samuel’s HEA because honestly, I cannot imagine anyone else with him.  As opposites as they are, they fit together perfectly in so many ways.

Samuel has always been annoyed yet intrigued by his sisters’ best friend who was essentially adopted into the family.  He, however, also couldn’t stand her constant teasing and chaos of a world.  Samuel is Mr. White and Black.  Everything has a place and life isn’t messy.  Life is orderly.  Boy does Free rock his world right off its axis.

Freedom is the queen of the hippie life.  She doesn’t eat meat.  She doesn’t believe in animal testing on products.  She is the most reliable if not slightly late friend you can ever want so why is she so attracted to her sister older brother.  The man who wears ties to family functions…never mind what those ties do to her libido!!!

These two have fought the chemistry so long so when they are thrown together in the Vegas for Samuel’s sister/Free’s best friend Harper’s wedding as the only single friends, they kiiiinda lose control and kiiiind awake up a mess.  Apparently, what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas!!

I loved seeing Free be so sure in the decision to stay with Samuel and convince him she was the right person for him.  Seeing Samuel so conflicted but stepping out of his norm to TRY this life with Free was adorable.  I loved the scene with him in the shop…hilarious!!  The entire scene cracked me up.

The conflict of the story made my eyes a bit leaky because we all wanted to punch Samuel.  He has lived by his strict controlled world.  He is having a hard time learning to trust his heart and not follow his brain.  Free is the most amazing character in the series and when we finally got to SEE what her life was before this meeting Harper and her family, it was sad.  We understand why family is so important to her and why she clings to those she loves so fiercely.

The epilogue was amazing, and the bonus epilogue made my heart sing!!  I was so happy by that little chapter because …well we all needed to see this happen and see the HEA!!

Avid reader, writer, mother, and wife! I love to read contemporary romance. Add in a little “spice” or hot guys in uniform pants, and I’m a happy woman. There’s just something about diving into a book and engrossing in the magic of your hero and heroine getting their happily ever after.

#review #standalone #allthefeels —Release by: Aly Martinez

From USA Today Bestselling Author Aly Martinez comes an emotional new standalone.

Growing up, Ramsey Stewart branded my soul in ways time could never heal.

At twelve, he asked me to be his girlfriend.
At thirteen, he gave me my first kiss.
By sixteen, we’d fallen in love, planned a future together, and had our eyes set on the horizon.

Love never fails, right?
But for Ramsey, it did.
Love failed him.
I failed him.
The entire world failed him.

At seventeen, Ramsey was convicted of killing the boy who assaulted me.

Move on, he wrote in his first and only letter from prison.
Start a new life, he urged.
I don’t love you anymore, he lied.

There was no such thing as giving up on Ramsey. Love may have been our curse, but he was mine—then, now, and forever.

So here I am, twelve long years later, waiting for a man I don’t even know to emerge from between the chain link gates.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

Ramsey & Thea’s friendship had a bit of an odd start. Ramsey did everything to insert himself into Thea’s life. Thea, however, did everything to reject him. But there was no denying their friendship, which eventually turned into something much more.

It was inevitable these 2 ended up together but no way they could forsee the events that tore them apart for 12 years.

“Move on he wrote in his first

I don’t love you anymore, he

There was no such thing as
giving up on Ramsey.
Love may have been our curse,
but he was mine- then, now,
and forever.”

12 years apart is a long time.
12 years in prison changes a person.
Is it even possible for things to go back to the way things once were?

GAH! This book!!! It had my rapt attention from the start. I was invested in Ramsey and Thea’s story. I wanted nothing more than for them to end up together. After all they had been through, they definitely deserved a HEA. As far as if that happened for these 2- my lips are sealed. You will have to read the book to find out!

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four hilarious children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys movies that can surprise her with a twist, charcuterie boards, and her mildly neurotic golden retriever. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a glass of wine by her side.

-Ainsley-

He was kind.
Caring.
Patient.
Cyrus Butcher wasn’t like any man I had ever met before. He took his time with me. Opened up new feelings and made me realize that not all men were monsters.
Ripped from my life at a young age, I spent years in a hell I wasn’t sure I would ever survive. But I did. Only to become a shell of the woman I once was.
With him, the dark and handsome stranger who saved me, he helped me find my voice again. While he was gentle, I knew that there was a dominant man in him I needed.
As I opened up to him and gave him my truths, he showed me a passionate side to myself I thought was lost forever.
I was the pet he needed.
He was the Sir I craved.

-Cyrus-

She was quiet.
Withdrawn.
A good girl.
Ainsley Cloet was the submissive I had spent years looking for. She was passionate and fierce. The strongest woman I had ever met. But she kept those parts of herself hidden after spending years locked up at the hands of vile human beings.
While we became closer, my brother became moodier. Spending our lives trying to mask the pain of losing our parents at a young age, neither of us thought we could find the happiness we both deserved.
After earning Ainsley’s trust, falling in love, and making promises about our future, someone who had been lurking in the shadows the whole time finally let himself be known.
But no matter the damage that had been caused, I would be there.
At her side.
As her protector.
And as her Dom.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

Ainsley managed to escape her captors but it has left her severely broken. She has been mute for years. She is teaching ASL at the Center and they have also helped her find a place to live. Cyrus is fighting demons of his own but one day, while at The Center, he meets Ainsley. Now he can’t keep his mind off of the silent girl from The Center. He doesn’t know it yet, but Ainsley can’t stop thinking about Cyrus either.

Oh my, Cyrus was, gah, he was absolutely perfect. I loved everything about him. My new favorite JM hero. He may very well be my most favorite Hero EVER! He was kind, gentle, and extremely patient. He let Ainsley have the control, something he knew she needed. That was sweet, selfless, and sexy AF!
I am loving this series! I am always excited for the next book to be released but I know I’m going to be sad when the final book ends. I’m not sure how she even manages it but each book in this series is better than the last and I seriously cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

#Review #MMRomance #Novella —Sailor Boy by: Kris Jacen (All American Boy Series)

All American Boy Series

Jeremy Riley fell in love with sailing when he was a troubled teen and sent away to camp for the summer. Now he’s sailing for a living. Getting a bachelors in vessel operations was the best thing that he could’ve done. Most of the year, he’s on the ship helping with hands-on education for the New England Maritime Academy.

The bright spot in Kendall Winters’ life is his daughter, three-year-old Savannah. How his sister had deserted Savy when she was diagnosed with cancer and needed her the most boggled his mind. Her loss was his gain — and there was no way he was ever giving Savy back to her. Now if he could find someone to share Savy’s highs and lows with, that would be amazing.

A summer trip to the Tall Ship Festival to get away from his parents and let Savy explore ‘boats’ seems like the best idea. Sun and sea for him and Savy sounded perfect to him. Add in a gorgeous sailor with eyes that sparked with mirth? Sign him up.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

As the story begins we find out that Kendall has been raising his niece as his own child since his POS sister jumped ship and gave up her rights. We also find out early on that Kendall’s mother is a pretty crappy human but we shall do our best to ignore that old loon. Needless to say, Kendall needs to take a weekend to go somewhere fun with his daughter. He decides a weekend away at a boat festival is just the place to go since his little Savvy is obsessed with boats.

Jeremy is a sailor and the ship he has been a part of its crew for a few years now is in the festival Kendall and Savy are going to this weekend. I’m sure you have an idea of what you think happens next but I will leave you to find out without me spoiling it for you.

I enjoyed this quick MM read by new to me author, Kris Jacen. I give it 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

#Review The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

An instant classic and eerily prescient cultural phenomenon, from “the patron saint of feminist dystopian fiction” (New York Times). Now an award-winning Hulu series starring Elizabeth Moss.

In this multi-award-winning, bestselling novel, Margaret Atwood has created a stunning Orwellian vision of the near future. This is the story of Offred, one of the unfortunate “Handmaids” under the new social order who have only one purpose: to breed. In Gilead, where women are prohibited from holding jobs, reading, and forming friendships, Offred’ s persistent memories of life in the “time before” and her will to survive are acts of rebellion. Provocative, startling, prophetic, and with Margaret Atwood’s devastating irony, wit, and acute perceptive powers in full force, The Handmaid’s Tale is at once a mordant satire and a dire warning.

So I’m taking part in a personal reading challenge. It’ll motivate me to get some books read that I wouldn’t normally read. I don’t think any of them are romance but I’ll review them anyway of course. This challenge is 40 books every woman should read before she turns 40. I have a year and a bit, so I have some time at least.

This book. Oy.

Now, if you’ve watched the show, you obviously know what this book is about. I’m sad to say that I never even heard of this author or this book until I was told about the show. So I watched the show first.

While a few things are different from the book to the show, you get the idea of what’s going on.

This book is about June or Ofred, who’s the main character and tells the story through her point of view. It’s a dystopian type world now, as a government has taken over. Women’s choices are stripped from them. If you’re fertile, you’re used for babies. If you’re not, you’re sent off to do who knows what. Some are Marthas, which means they cook and clean and take care of the house.

What sets this book/story apart from the rest is how different it is but at the same time, especially with things happening in the world now, it’s almost like a prediction in a way.

I won’t get all preachy or bring up worldy politics and stuff – not that I know much about that anyway – but I will say that this book, the story within this book, is one of the scariest things I have ever read. Why you ask? It’s not a thriller or a horror, Jo! I know right? What makes it scary is that it could actually happen. Maybe not exactly like what happens in the book of course but something similar could definitely take place.

I haven’t read book 2 yet but I most certainly will! But first, on to book 2 of this challenge!

Happy reading, friends!
