#wotr #attendingauthor #partofaseries Just One Glance (oh tequila 5) by C.A. Harms

The quiet one. Yep, that was me. The brother that rarely said anything and instead, stood back and observed. That is until too much tequila and very little thought had me swinging my junk around in the middle of a crowded college party. Hell, I even wore tassels in areas tassels should never be placed. Let’s just say, the hashtag #dicksaswinging will follow me around forever. You may have heard it a time or two already.

In my defense, things like that happened all the time because I lived in more of a zoo than an actual fraternity house. It just never happened to me. Suffice to say, I learned my lesson.

Seeing Ruby amidst all the chaos was certainly unexpected and it stopped everything around me. The room suddenly went quiet and everyone else disappeared. She stood out—the timid way she worried her hands and the way she looked around, almost as if she was ready to run away.

As I got to know her, I realized she was nothing like the girls I normally dated. She was quiet, innocent, and sweet. She was the complete opposite of me and if I was a better man, I would walk away. But I’m not and I can’t.

And to think, all it took was Just One Glance and everything changed.

Review by Twinsie Dee

I bought this book and this is my honest opinion

Ruby the daughter of the dean just wants to let loose have fun and live the life she wants but for her dad that isn’t what he thinks she should do so she just keeps her nose in her books and does what she’s told. Now her bestie Darcy well she makes sure she has a bit of fun while she can,so with the help of Darcy’s forceful personality, they create a list of 10 things Ruby can do to have a bit of fun and feel a bit alive.

Jay wasn’t quite your typical frat guy yes he had his moments like forever being known by his hashtag dicksaswinging after a drunk night at the house where he let his twig and berries have some air and it was caught on film. But when Darcy lets her past with these frat guys get to her she lets Ruby know that they are all the same and just want to get into your pants. Will Ruby let Darcy keep her safe and keep her from the one guy that could be different from the rest or will she just let herself feel cared for and finally live. I swear I love each book more and more these books make me wish I had this type of college experience and happy extended family like these guys all found. I just love them so much I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of them.

C.A. Harms is an avid romance and mystery reader. She’s always had a love for books, getting lost in writing and storytelling even as a young girl. She enjoys happy endings and HEA love stories.

She lives in Illinois and enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She holds an addiction for Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha’s and KitKat when she should really be focusing on water and maybe a fruit or two to make herself feel less guilty, but that feeling quickly passes…thankfully.

She is easy going, fun, and although she may seem like one of the quiet ones at first, you just wait until she gets to know you better…that quietness changes, fast

#Review – Here Lies a Saint: A Dark Bully Academy Romance by C.L. Matthews

Being rich is great until you become the saint of Arcadia.
Gentleman.
Charmer.
All-star.
They call me a saint, but if they knew the lies, the fallacies,
and what truths I hide, I’d be labeled a proclaimed sinner.
I lie, do all the bad deeds, especially if it does right by her.
She’s the darkness but also the light.
He’s my downfall but also my redemption.
Two opposites, but somehow everything I’ve fought for.
Earning her, saving him, it’s all I can think of.
Saint or sinner, I’ll win her.
Death or life, I’ll protect him.
Truth or lie, I’ll save them.
Arcadia isn’t prepared for the war its wrought.
Good thing I’m a fighter.
No one said I’d bow down to an unworthy king.

This series is insane! This book is insane! Just when I thought I knew what was happening and who was the bad guy and so on, boy was I wrong! I think the only person I trust is Colt.

When I started this series, I hadn’t read a lot of reverse harem type books. Maybe one or two but this series is hands down my favourite. And we still get three more books!

This is book 2 in the Here Lies Series and I definitely recommend reading the first book. I personally don’t think it should be read on it’s own, so grab book 1!

There is so much lies and deception in this book, it’s unreal! And can we talk about the hotness as well? I first started writing this review before I was completely done the book. I was actually going to say that book one has way more sexy times in it but…I think they’re both equal. There’s a scene close to the end of the book, in a woods that is beyond hot. CL Matthews definitely knows her way around a sex scene.

I find that the more questions that get answered, the more we’re left with unanswered questions just the same. Which I’m loving! There’s secrets, a kind of who-dunnit feel and you’re left not knowing who you can trust.

By the ending of the book, I was holding my breath through the last couple of chapters, trying to figure out what was going to happen and hoping for the best that nothing would happen to the characters I had fallen in love with.

Definitely an amazing read and I can’t wait for book 3!

Jade C. Jamison

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Jade C. Jamison…I’ve been writing most of my life but published my first book in 2011. I have four children all adults now (!!!) and live in Colorado. So happy that Angie and I met each other thanks to the world of books!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Hmm. For me, it’s individual books that are more difficult, and it all depends on that specific book. For example, Bullet (#1) was relatively easy to write; Rock Bottom (#2) was like pulling teeth; Feverish (#3) was easier than the other two. For me, it’s the book itself, the plot, and the characters rather than where a book falls in the series.

What comes first? The plot or characters

Again for me it depends on the book. In the case of the Nicki Sosebee series, it was the characters. Most of the time, I think it’s the characters. But with a book like In a Haze, it was the plot first.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I would have loved to have met Toni Morrison.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

I would love to talk to her in depth about her process.

#AuthorSpotlight – Daryl Banner

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself and which Twinsie do you know.

My name is Daryl Banner. I’m an author of primarily male/male romance, but I also write dystopian and fantasy fiction, and I’m also a composer. I know all the awesome Twinsies! 🙂

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The ones that follow. It is a challenge to find new territory in an established series to explore that is both unexpected and new, yet familiar enough to not jar the readers.

What comes first? The plot or characters?

Characters! The plot is absolutely dependent on who is living the experience, and quite often changes in the process of fleshing out the story.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Chuck Palahniuk

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

What was your most fulfilling writing experience? Which scene from one of your books still gives you chills when you think about its conception? Did you know in writing “Fight Club” that it would change the world?

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series?

Blurb writing is often the biggest struggle, though honestly all three of these things have given me substantial heartache. lol

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

The first time another author read one of my books and gushed over it. It was the amazing Madeline Sheehan, and the book was The Beautiful Dead.

What is your definition of success?

Feeling okay when everything is not okay 🙂

#wotr #attendingauthor #partofaseries Being Us (the next generation 4) by J.M. Walker

Tanner-

She was beautiful.

Loved.

Strong.

After hiding away for six months with just my dog to keep me company, I was forced out of the shadows only to end up in the arms of an enemy.

Beatrix Lister saved my life. I had been taking care of myself for so long, I didn’t know how to ask for help, but she refused to go down without a fight.

She was warm where I was frigid.

She was kind and caring where I was a cold-blooded monster.

I did things to survive.

I battled the evils of the world to live.

I didn’t deserve her heart but fell in love with her anyway.

As much as I wanted to be with her, I needed answers and I would do anything to get them.

Even if it meant breaking the heart of the only woman I had ever loved.

~

-Bee-

He was lonely.

Intense.

Brave.

Tanner Horsch came into my life unexpectedly. He was like a tornado, ripping up everything in its path.

There was something about him that I craved.

His touch. His words. His need to survive.

But as we were getting to know each other, he still had walls up.

He refused to let me in knowing my family didn’t approve of him.

I refused to let him go.

After being in the wrong place at the wrong time, he escaped and eventually he ran right into my arms.

He was the villain of someone else’s story, but he was the hero of mine.

I just prayed that he could see that not all monsters are truly evil.

Before it was too late, and he gave himself to the enemy.

My family.

I was given this book and this is my honest opinion

Where do I start this slow burn is everything I didn’t know I needed. Bee just wants to be see as an adult and not as a child, when all she’s ever been is sheltered her whole life. Tanner was at the wrong place at the kind right time to put together some missing pieces after a member of another MC club got killed the one witness that never lies a near by security camera have him at the scene making him look bad but can he help the club find out who really pulled the trigger. This couple makes you root for all things good in the world and when people try to keep them apart it only brings them closer. You will absolutely love this story with all the interruptions and feelings.

J.M. Walker is an Amazon bestselling author who hit USA Today with Wanted: An Outlaw Anthology. She loves all things books, pigs and lip gloss. She is happily married to the man who inspires all of her Heroes and continues to make her weak in the knees every single day.

#WOTR21 #AuthorSpotlight – Marie Piper

Marie Piper

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m Marie Piper. I live in Chicago with my husband, kiddo, and three cats. I write historical romance set in America, and I’m a big history nerd.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I find the subsequent books in a series way harder to write than the first, actually. Something about having all the wide open space in the world for the first book makes it easier than when I have to work within the confines of what exists for books to follow.

What comes first? The plot or characters

Since I write historicals, the idea usually comes from some sort of moment or image. For my Salem Witch Trials novella, A STRANGE AFFLICTION, I had been thinking about the time period and I had the idea for a woman skipping a stone over a pond…and the book was born from there.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’ve had the good fortune to meet a lot of my romance writing heroes at conventions and events, so I would actually choose Sarah Vowell.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

1. How do you keep all the dates straight? 2. What time periods/events in American History would you love to write about? 3. When can we expect a NEW Book?

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

I. Hate. Writing. Blurbs.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Probably my first trip to RT. It was the best kind of whirlwind for a newbie author and I met so many amazing people.

What is your definition of success?

Writing my weird little books and having some people enjoy them. I don’t need to be a bestseller to be happy as a writer.

Review by Twinsie Dee

I bought this book and this my honest opinion

What a great retelling of a beloved classic Cinderella but with a modern day twist. Arnessa is just your average girl working her way through college trying to get away from her evil step mother and step sisters. They want nothing more then to see her unhappy and do so by only way they can keep her unhappy is by keeping her working in the family coffee shop and letting her go to class. Well that was until Vincent came into the shop and well step sister had her eyes on him and Arnessa couldn’t care less she just wanted to raise money to move away from them far away. Well Vincent didn’t want Diamond her step sister she wanted to learn more of Arnessa and who she was magic and all. This was a great retelling with a twist I didn’t see coming but you will love this story and the strong will of Arnessa.

J.E.Mueller is known as the storyteller among her friend group. Telling tales and weaving plots was always second nature for Mueller growing up. After college Mueller decided to go from telling and dabbling in plots to actually getting a novel out there in the world. After many cups of coffee later, and several dead red pens, there was success.

Aside from writing, the author also enjoys reading a wide variety of books and has even joined in helping others with the writing process by alpha and beta reading. When not part of the written world, Mueller can also be found playing action/adventure games, rpgs, sandbox, and nonsense games. Some of her favorites include. Skyrim, Alice: Madness Returns, Splatoon, Fat Princess, Stardew Valley, and the Legend of Zelda series.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

What a Dragon Wants, you ask? Fortune cookies and to save the world! I love how this author took two different cultures and intricately weaved them together in such a way that created a truly unique story. Ty is of Viking heritage and Lin is of Chinese heritage. Turns out that both have dragon shifters in their history and both have been prophesied to fight a monster who will try and destroy the world. Ty and Lin both carry a heavy burden. The difference is that Ty has his family to help carry this burden and Lin believes she is the last of her kind. Ty and Lin’s story starts as a slow burn but when they come together, they ignite like something fierce. What they find is a love like no other and a passion that may possibly save the world. There is a delicate push and pull with these two that will have you rooting for them to the very end.

“I’m not a delicate flower that’s going to wilt. In fact, maybe I am a superhero assassin.”

“We are opposites Black dragon, white dragon; water and fire; Yin and Yang. A complete whole. Out of primal chaos, the universe creates itself, organizes into cycles. Life and death, good and bad, push and pull.”

True to this author’s writing fashion, there is lots of action, with tons of wit and snark, but a hawt and passionate love story woven within. These two are so different but so made for each other. It is hard not to have a crazy case of the feels for them. The beautiful part to this is that Ty’s brothers are getting their own stories! Can’t wait!

Ava Cuvay

Ava Cuvay writes out of this world romance featuring sassy heroines, often-alien-but-always-sexy heroes, and an alcoholic beverage or two… Set in a galaxy far, far away. She resides in central Indiana, USA with her own scruffy-looking nerfherder, kiddos who are growing up without her permission, and two kitties that make her laugh. She believes life is too short to bother with negative people, everything is better with Champagne, and Han Solo shot first. When not writing, Ava is thinking about writing. Or wine. And she’s always thinking about bacon.

Love Letters Lost (Suspenseful Seduction World)

Genni

Being back in my small hometown for Gran’s funeral sent me into a full-blown panic attack, and at that moment, a handsome stranger swooped in, becoming my salvation. From first glance, Brian made me weak in the knees with his commanding disposition and firm yet gentle touch. He pulled me in.

I took a chance on him…and all hell broke loose. Caught in the crosshairs of a mob war, I’m kidnapped for the sole purpose of being used as collateral in a power struggle I can’t begin to comprehend. I believed he would save me though. I needed to trust Brian to get me out of there and to introduce me to the enticing world of BDSM. Now, my life is in his hands as we battle against the clock to ensure my survival.

Brian

Visiting Illinois to catch up with an old friend was an ideal weekend…made far more delectable when I saw her. Genni was a damsel in distress who awoke my Dom side with a desperate need to protect her..to care for her..to guide her into my world.

But there is evil out there I can’t shield her from, and it ensnares her in its ominous web. With my family’s background in high-stakes security, I call them in to help me track down her kidnappers. One way or another, I will get her back alive, and I will never let her go again.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Love Letters Lost is all about ending a chapter in your life and taking a chance on starting the next great adventure. This is such a wonderful story that pulls at your heartstrings but also has plenty of action, suspense, wit… and of course some amazing sexy time! Genni comes home to take care of her gran’s funeral. She is a mess over her gran’s death. She is trying to put on a great facade but Brian, a handsome sweet talking stranger, swoops in just at the right time to save her from herself. These two meet under not the greatest of circumstances but connect immediately and can’t stop thinking about each other. As these two start to get closer, an old friend decides to show his true colors and all sorts of truths start coming out of the woodwork. Including a secret about Brian being a Dom. An epic sh!tsh#w is going down and Genni is right in the middle. There is some fighting, some kidnapping, and some loving happening in what seems like the snap of a finger. Genni’s mind is whirling while all this is going on and trying to process Brian’s BDSM background. She is not sure if this is something she can get on board with, but also is in it a little too deep and not sure if she can just leave Brian alone. Thank the gods she decides to follow her heart (like her gran told her to) as she decides she needs to keep Brian and give this a try.

This is a beautiful love story with all the right elements to keep you on your toes. One thing that I really loved about this story is that the only information that Genni had about the BDSM lifestyle is from what she read in romance novels but this author does an amazing job of describing the lifestyle and giving glimpses of the scenes without the story being consumed with sex. The story itself pulls you in with a deathgrip until you read the last page. All the rest is a bonus!

Miranda Lynn

Escaping reality one book at a time has been Miranda’s motto since she learned to read. As an only child raised on a dairy farm her creative imagination brought words to life. She devoured more books growing up than her little town bookmobile could handle. It was inevitable that she would turn from reading them to writing them. This is her way to help not only herself but others escape the day to day drudge. Her books may take you on a journey through time, give you a look inside a fantasy realm, or delve into the magic of almost anything paranormal. Threading in heart stopping romance and dropping an occasional super sexy scene just to keep you on your toes.

Miranda’s stories are focused around strong female leads and sexy males who appreciate them. She strives to encourage her readers that they can have it all in real life too.
You can find her most days either subbing at the local high school or tucked away in her office working on the next story with a cup of java in her hand. She loves connecting with her readers online as well as in real life so make sure to find her on Facebook and check out where she will be signing throughout the year on her website.

#AuthorSpotlight – Stefanie Spangler

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself and which Twinsie do you know.

My name is Stefanie Spangler, and I am the author of Dark Designs. Dee is my favorite Twinsie.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I know lots of authors who really hit their stride after the first hurdle, but for me, right after I finished the first book, life happened. So everything after the first one is definitely harder.

What comes first? The plot or characters?

For me, I have to start with the characters. Otherwise, I can’t quite see how the plot would go without knowing the characters first.

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series?

Usually, writing the blurb and coming up with the title is a team effort with a few people on the publishing team. Blurbs are just universally hard, I think.
