#twinsieoftheday – Grimworld: Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock by Avery Moray

Every day, thirteen year old Henry Bats has his usual bowl of Sugar Slugs, helps tend Cobalt Sidewinders at Frank’s Peculiar Pets, and keeps to himself with his comic book collection. Just your typical day in Grimworld, where the sky is always dark and shadows lurk in the streets. What’s not typical is a suspicious Nightspook luring Henry into a cemetery in the middle of the night with the promise of a prized comic book. The Nightspook steals part of Henry’s lifespan with a pocket watch, which begins counting down to his death. Henry is running out of time, and the pocket watch won’t stop ticking…

I received this book for an honest review.

This book is a bit unusual and reminds me of the town in a nightmare before Christmas, but the citizens
are human. It’s creepy, but not scary creepy. I would say it is a good book for early teen and up.
Henry lives with his parents and sister and likes to collect comics. He is tricked and ends up with a pocket
watch that is ticking down to his early death. He teams up with another boy with a pocket watch to try to
find a way to remove the watches that are now stuck around their necks. When they start putting things
together, they realize that they have a bigger problem than they thought. Henry’s sister realizes that
something is going on and starts to poke her nose in Henry’s business.
There is a colorful cast of characters that have interesting little quirks that add depth to the story, and the
world building is really interesting as it has these elements that are normally very creepy, but the way that
they are accepted as normal by the people in the story keeps this book from being scary. There are a few
things that I was thinking “ew” that’s a little yucky, but I think young boys would really like these moments. Boys and girls should both enjoy this story, but I think that boys who have trouble finding things that are interesting to read will enjoy this story. In all I enjoyed this story. It’s quirky, imaginative, and a bit different that what I normally read.

Avery Moray is a storyteller who specializes in middle grade and young adult fantasy. She lives in a land with tall mountains and wide plains with her two furry sidekicks and one non-furry accomplice. Review by Twinsie Kelly

Pistol Fire wraps this series up perfectly! Libby gets her time with this book. Libby is known around town as the hardass but she just about broke when her bar catches on fire. Who better to help her than the town hottie fireman, Brock! Yes girls! His description alone will make your panties wet! Well, Libby can’t think straight when he is around and I completely understand why.

Libby and Brock both have their own demons and their own reasons for not pursuing long term romantic quests. Neither will accept help and certainly not from each other. There is a lot of tit for tat with these two. A tragedy strikes, and BOY this will grab your heart strings and pull hard, but even then, they can’t quite get it together for each other. It can be difficult when you don’t know who or what hurt someone to make them so cold. However, when the ice starts to thaw, the dam will break and these two collide!

I love that these two ultimately come around to each other. And their commitment to each other, while unconventional for some, is perfect for them. Absolutely love it!

#review #partofaseries Asher (Station 47 4) by KL Myers and Tina Reber

My fellow firefighters call me an adrenaline junkie because I thrive on running into a burning building.

The ladies call me Mr. Hit It and Quit It, since that’s all I have the heart for, but that doesn’t stop them from trying.

Everything changes with one 911 call. One look at her and I am obsessed—Sienna Tatum is the only woman I can’t walk away from.

When danger takes her away from me, there’s only one person to call, someone I swore I’d never speak to again—my twin Zip, the V.P. of the Hells Guardians M.C.

I don’t have a dark side like my brother, but I’ll do whatever it takes. I’ll burn the world down to save her.

i was given this book by the author for an honest review

Paged out for another crazy call propane tanks, fireworks, lots of possible explosives at a local market. Asher and the rest of station 47 are on the scene and when Asher and Hawk find a woman under some flower crates she was alive but her PTSD from her past is hitting full force. Sienna was running from her past trying to hide from her abusive ex even though he’s in jail, she’s still afraid he’s going to find her and kill her. she was giving a fresh start from a local woman who had been in her shoes at one point in her life and wanted to help Sienna get back on her feet. Now she’s being saved by Asher and Hawk and her flashbacks are overwhelming her. Can she overcome her past without giving away her truth, it one door closed but not forever type of life for her and its frighting. Between these two with Ashers past battles with his time in the military, and Sienna’s past with her ex will they be the key to help comfort the other and help overcome the trauma from the past that still haunts them. For me this was a bit slower pace and between the flashbacks and the present it got a little jumbled where I had to go back to be like oh this was in the past, but it was still a great read.

K.L. Myers was born in West Berlin, Germany, the daughter of a military father. Review by Brandy

I received this book for an honest review.

I will admit that I don’t read many mystery novels. The ones I do read though, usually end up
being interesting and this one is no exception. What’s more interesting than a bunch of
strangers shoved together for a destination wedding that has a giant bridezilla? Ones that have
skeletons and secrets in their closets that they are trying to hide when the best man gets
murdered.
Poor Lexi is the maid of honor for her best friend Olivia’s wedding. Olivia is taking bridezilla to
the next level with her destination wedding weeklong schedule. Lexi is trying desperately to
keep everything from becoming a disaster when Olivia decides that nobody needs to know that
the best man has been murdered, and that the wedding must go on. When Olivia’s sister shows
up with a plan to ruin the wedding that includes an ex that broke her sister’s heart, Lexi’s
problems hit nuclear level. Between love, lies, murder and lots of secrets Lexi learns a lot about
herself and her best friend.
There are some really interesting characters in this book that have some surprises up their
sleeve. The world building is pretty good, and I felt like I could feel the ocean breeze and picture
the small coastal town so clearly. I mostly gave this book five stars because I was drawn into the
story not just because of the murder mystery but because of Lexi’s struggles to come to terms
with truths about herself, her best friend, and what she really wanted in her life.

#Review – What a Dragon Loves (Star of The North Dragons) Book 4 by Ava Cuvay

Arkyn Drekison is the alpha-heir of his Minnesota family’s dragon shifter clan. Always at the front, in the know, and ahead of the curve. But his younger brothers have all found love and, for the first time in his life, he’s… left behind. He can’t fall for just anyone. He needs a dependable, feisty, steadfast shield maiden to love: a fellow shifter who can help lead his clan and mesh with the many strong personalities within his family. So why is he utterly captivated by a woman who is anything but? She’s human, delicate, spacey, and far more comfortable with babies and pets than anyone old enough to make conversation. Yet there’s something about her that entices his dragon and makes his earth power rumble with desire.

Amalthea Payne is a chaotic hot mess on a good day, always saying the wrong thing, easily distracted, and, well… just plain weird. She’s unintentionally high-maintenance, and no one—friends and lovers, alike—needs the kind of bizarre she brings to the table. So she’s a loner, which is probably for the best, because the mayhem churning deep in her soul is growing stronger, threatening to suck her into a void of her own insanity. Yet when she helps the tall, blond, and gorgeous flannel-wearing-Thor-wannabee rescue a kitten, there’s something about him that soothes her savage beast. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

This novella is the fourth book of the Star of the North Dragon series, which can be read in any order or as standalone novellas.

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Opposites attract in the craziest of ways, via the cat distribution system!

I started laughing almost immediately! Arkyn is the oldest and always in charge. Very organized with a plan. Until the cat distribution system interrupted his life and introduced him to Ama, a chaos tornado stuffed in a  hurricane of crazy and wrapped with a blizzard of mayhem. Arkyn already has his hands full and can’t understand why he is drawn to her crazy. Ama is NOTHING like what he thinks he needs in a woman. In true Drekison fashion, the family slowly but surely opens Arkyn’s eyes so that he should listen to his heart, and not his head. Ama can’t explain the pull she has to Arkyn and surely doesn’t understand the calmness she feels around him.

“He gazed at her like she was some riddle he couldn’t solve. Good luck to him; she couldn’t solve that riddle either.”

Being part of their journey and watching them grow together was insanely funny but also had super melty heart moments that made me swoon, and perhaps switch my crush from Ulrik to Arkyn (wags eyebrows). I normally wouldn’t say that the last book in a series is my favorite, but honestly, this really is my favorite!

***Review for Blue Balls***

OMG! This story had me feel ALL THE FEELS! For a short story, Piper’s story had me laugh at times and almost in tears at others! AND I’M NOT A CRIER! Whoa!

Piper has a lot going on in her life. She is taking care of her grandmother as best she can, prioritizing bills the best she can, and dealing with city giving threats of more fines and liens on the house for not moving the ancient hot tub from the front yard. Just read it, it will tear your heart up! The one thing she doesn’t need is Sheriff Creed McDuffy “talking” to her about her problem while she is at work. She has had enough and blows up. But what does he do? Arrests her!

I spent half the time yelling WTF, the other half trying not to cry, and the other half swooning. I know I know, there are three halves here. Trust me, girl math, this makes sense!

This was my favorite out of the three Rocks books. Bravo!

I received this book for an honest review.

This is not my usual cup of tea, but it was interesting. Rose’s husband has died in a car accident, and
little lies start to come out about his activities. Rose has always relied on her husband for everything and
now has to try to come to terms with how much he kept hidden from her. She starts to suspect that
everyone around her is hiding things from her and her world starts to unravel.
I have to hand it to the author. Just when you think that you have it figured out a new twist is thrown in
and more lies come out. Even at the end when you really think you’ve got it there’s an even bigger twist.
There is no adult content and it suits the storyline that way. There is some violence, but you have to
wonder is it real? Did Rose imagine it? Is she loosing her mind? Things get a bit dicey here and there
especially when people start ending up dead. The real question is why can’t Rose remember anything
before the age of 7 and why is she having black outs? You don’t really see the real answer to that
question coming at all!

#Review – What a Dragon Desires (Star of the North Dragons) Book 3 by Ava Cuvay

Ulrik Drekison serves comfortably at the right hand of his oldest brother. As a Wood Dragon shifter, he is the peacekeeper, serene as the forests surrounding his Minnesota home. When a deadly pest invasion threatens the future of his family’s logging company and the entire state’s economy, he’s primed to battle the infestation but ill-equipped to combat his attraction to the voluptuous woman sent by an opposing company. Unaffected by his Viking good looks and his innate dragon sensuality, she trashes his calm at every turn. Yet, as antagonistic as she is, he can’t seem to walk away from her.

Eydís Helvig was born a dragon shifter… without a dragon. As an apex predator with no beast to back up her brazen attitude, her own clan rejects her and humans barely tolerate her. When she’s tasked to diffuse a small family logging company’s outcry about a bug crisis, she is inexorably drawn by the Drekison’s innate power and integrity, especially the hostile yet passionate brother, Ulrik. She yearns to set down roots she’s never had. But like everyone else, Ulrik and his family won’t want her, especially after her employer’s secret is exposed.

This novella is the third in the Star of the North Dragon series, which can be read in any order or as standalone novellas.

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Oh, Baby Girl! Ulrik and his Viking good looks will never live this down!

I was pulled in right from the very beginning and couldn’t put this one down.

Eydis comes in like a wrecking ball with the intention of putting a hurtin’ on the Drekison’s logging company, but the only hurtin’ she does is to herself. She has become a force to be reckoned with in the industry and is cutthroat. What she didn’t plan on was falling for the Viking in sweats that say “Baby Girl” on the butt! You are going to have to read this one to know more about the sweats. I promise, you won’t be disappointed. After that awkward meeting, they continue clashing together. Neither of them can keep their hands to themselves but she continues to pull away. Both are going utterly insane! She definitely has some issues, but who better to work through those issues with than Ulrik? He’s gorgeous, funny, strong, and has a big heart (I may or may not have a little crush on Ulrik).

Ulrik is always second in command but always there to help in any way he is able. Eydis was dealt an incredibly horrible hand in life and she uses that to make her cold and hard. Both Ulrik and Eydis have a tough exterior but find that together, they are all mushy and stuff (I say that with the utmost love for these two). The push and pull between Ulrik and Eydis is very, very…did I say VERY? INTENSE!

Their secrets are related more closely than they could ever imagine. When they finally collide, fireworks explode! Thes two were made for each other!

Cherry and Dylan were high school sweethearts 10 years ago. Dylan did the unthinkable. He took Cherry’s virginity and then was abducted by aliens the next day! 10 years later he pops back up and wants to give Cherry an explanation. But a lot has happened to Cherry over these 10 years and she has become cold toward men. She has responsibilities and she doesn’t think Dylan deserves the time of day.

Dylan has had enough and won’t take no for an answer. He finally gets to give his explanation. While it wasn’t as explosive as I thought it would be, it was different.

Next comes the inner turmoil of these two before they can finally get through their own crap to realize they are in love. Their long lost love is super sweet and hawt!

I received this book for an honest review.

They say that your life experiences are what make you who you are, and Nora has to learn a very painful
lesson and her friends along with her. Betrayal is a bitter pill, but sometimes the hardest lessons are the
necessary ones.
The magic in this story is a bit unusual, and Nora is different from anyone else. Nora’s magic is helped by
runes, but runes are not common knowledge, so she has to struggle to learn. She lives in a village with
the poorest of the poor, and only wants to help them. However, her good intentions backfire in a major
way, and the fall out is deadly. A very bad man is willing to do anything to find Nora and use her for his
own dark purposes, and he weaves plots within plots to gain more power.
There is violence, kind of a lot of violence towards the end. Nora’s friend has some special magic of his
own and some people come up with some not nice, creative ways to test him to see what he can do. As
well as a couple of battles. It’s not graphic, but it’s there. There is no adult content, and very little romance
of any kind. It’s a magical world of those who are gifted and have special abilities, and Nora who is
something more. The world building and character development are decent, but really it’s the unique way
the story unfolds that kept my attention.
