#WOTR21 #ThrowbackReview #Novella #Holiday – A Girlfriend for Christmas by Aly Grady

A Girlfriend For Christmas

When a blizzard prevents teacher Caroline Crawley from getting home for the first Christmas after her mother’s death, a stranger makes her an offer she can’t refuse.

Dr. Colin Pepper is traveling home, but without the non-existent girlfriend his family is expecting.

Can a pretend girlfriend be Colin’s true Christmas miracle?

Goodreads

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

When Aly asked if I would like to review her new “sweet holiday book”, I jumped.  Her books have that feel good vibe you get when reading.

The story is about Caroline who is stuck in the airport trying to get home to her dad in Iowa for Christmas.  She meets and chats with a kind and attractive man who hands her the phone and says “hey talk to my mom would ya.”…yup and that is how this whole story starts.

Colin told a small white lie to his family about bringing a non-existent girlfriend home for the holiday.  When he finds out Caroline’s story, he offers to help her if she helps him.  Upon entering his childhood home, he throws the final grenade at her…she is his liv- in girlfriend!!

Caroline is a trooper, but she enjoys the family time since she is an only child and being around Colin’s mom since she has lost her own mom helps to heal her heart.  There is insta-love but honestly this whole book is just a feel-good story.

We do have some conflict in the form of LAURA….Growl…not a fan of her at all but the end of the story was adorable and I can say I enjoyed reading it the night before Thanksgiving when the Holiday seasons officially kicks off.

Indiana. He said we had to move to Indiana. Was I in for a shock. Actually, no, but it would have been a great story. I love living and raising my family in the Midwest. Living with a racer spurred my imagination and I created The Racer’s Widow series. Since then, I’ve gone on to start the Homecoming series with A Home to Love. Hi friends, Aly Grady here. I can’t wait for 2020 to be over. But while I’m waiting I’ll spend my nights snuggled up with my labradoodle Cody.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I’ve only completed one series (Angie wants one more story though) so I’d have to say writing the next books are harder for me.

What comes first? The plot or characters

I’ve always come up with a story idea first.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Honestly, I get star struck by everyone. I really enjoyed Janet Evanovich, Stephanie Plumb books so that would be fun to chat with her about Grandma Mazur.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

Really the only question to ask is WHY isn’t Stephanie on some tropical island with Ranger?

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

Ugh – blurbs. That is an art form I’ve been studying.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Favorite memory as an author so far is my very first WOTR event. I was blown away by the readers and how organized the event was.

What is your definition of success?

Success in writing is hearing from a reader that they loved a story.

#WOTR20 #5YearFamily #NewRelease #WomensFiction – Together Again (Reunion Series Book 1) by Aly Grady

Together Again (Reunion Series Book 1)

Chloe left her high school years behind. That is, until it was time to start planning her reunion and dredging up her past.

Gavin’s work as a high school counselor exercises demons from his own poor upbringing. One bright spot from his own youth was the people he met along the way. If only she knew.

Plans are made with the help of the reunion committee. Gavin helps Chloe see that her personal history doesn’t define her, but instead shaped her.

Together, they look forward to the future – Again.

Goodreads

I received this book for free from the author for an honest review.

I love reading Aly’s books so when she asked if I would read this story about 3 best friends from high school who still are besties 1o years later, I jumped.  She said this wasn’t as much a romance story as a woman’s fiction because it’s the bond of the three ladies : Chloe, Suz, and Tara.

This story starts out with the ladies waiting on Chloe to meet up to start planning their reunion party.  When Chloe bumps into a nice-looking guy who says he wants to help out.  She has ZERO clue who he is and once she discovered it, she runs for the hills.

The story begins to unfold, and Gavin is the most likeable guy in the world.  I mean Tara and Suz love him but see his eyes are only on Chloe. We wonder what the heck is wrong with her and why does she freeze up around him????  As the story progresses and we see Chloe fighting this attraction to Gavin and then WHAMO it is thrown out there and we are stunned!! LEGIT STUNNED!!!  I mean what!!??  T hen when Gavin tells us more about his part in the twist, I loved him even more!!

The story unfolds more and more and we see Chloe and Gavin falling in love.  When we see Gavin trying to help a young girl we wonder about her and the connection they have.  As the story twists again, I had a WHAT!!!! Moment!!  I mean WHOOOOOOOA!  It was a take a breather moment.

Tara and Suz are an utter trip and we see their future HEAs in this story and I cant wait to see Tara and Damien because these two were hilarious!!  There were times in the story when my connection to Chloe was not great.  Actually, there were a few times when I down right didn’t like her as a character.  I felt at time she could be a bit wishy washy and push everyone away.  Gavin and her besties would kinda slap some sense back into her and make her realize what she was doing but I just got a little wary of it.  I am hoping in the following books, since she is in a stable relationship with Gavin, she will be more likeable and relaxed.

Aly Grady is New England born but for more than ten years has enjoyed living and raising her children in the Indianapolis area. She has firsthand knowledge of the racing industry because she is a racing widow. Aly enjoys trying to keep up with her two children and their busy lives, reading books by her favorite authors, watching IndyCar racing to look for her husband and traveling. “If you can read all those romance books you should be able to write one.” Aly took that challenge by her husband and ran with it to create The Racer’s Widow.

Twinsie Jo’s Review:

This book was simply adorable and sweet. I usually go for the smutty and sexy books but I have to say that this is one of my favourite little reads.

Caroline and Colin end up meeting at an airport while they’re trying to make their way home to their families. Well insert a random guy asking a random girl to be his fake girlfriend to bring home to his parents and the rest is history.

I enjoyed every side character and they’re respective role in the story.

Colin is sweet and caring and Caroline is feisty and fits in perfectly with his family. This story was shorter but perfect.

If you want a swoon-worthy read for the holidays, pick this one up!

Aly Grady – Indiana living but New Englander at heart.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

Favorite place to write is on the couch – most productive place is a different story. I have to have something to drink when I write.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love meeting the other writers. After all – every writer is a reader too.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Because of attending a national event for writers, I’ve had the privilege to meet many of my all time favorite writers. I’d probably have to say the one writer I’d fall over myself with a fan girl moment would be Bella Andre. I’ve read a lot of her books and love her style.

What author would you love to write with?

]Because mystery is out of my element – I’d love to collaborate with TC Winters on a cozy mystery that I’ve started but can’t wrap my brain around the twist and turns needed to do the story justice. I love how her minds works a story out.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Seeing “Racer’s Widow” printed for the first time brought me to tears.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

My favorite memory as an author would have to be when I received the proof for the cover for The Racer’s Widow. In the moment, my writing career became real.

#WOTR19 #ThrowbackReview – A Home For Love (Homecoming Book 1) by Aly Grady

A Home For Love (Homecoming Book 1)

Having thrown in the towel where men are concerned, Charlotte Cavanuagh devotes her energy toward expanding her design business and finding a new place to live.

Despite his love of family, recent losses have left Luke Anderson with no desire to embark upon a new relationship, allowing him to give his contracting company his undivided attention.

But when Charlotte and Luke work together on a customer’s dream home, their budding friendship results in more sparks than either of them ever expected.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

You know what they say? You find love when you aren’t looking. This book is precisely what the old adage is saying.

Charlotte was NOT looking for love.  After coming home and finding her husband screwing his secretary, Charlotte said DONZO!!  She ignored Grants MANY attempts at reconciliation because in her heart she knew they weren’t really in love but just a great working team who happened to marry. Luke was all about the pride of his work.  He was working and not really looking for anything or one when Charlotte walks into his life by accident.

The couple end up spending some time together and soon the sparks are flying.  As we are seeing the couple start to form attachments and figure out what is going on, there are some weird things happening and causing trouble for the new couple.

The story of the house the Charlotte buys….my heart….so sweet.  I loved the description of the house and what we discover from Luke about the house.

The story is a sweet read and one readers who are looking for characters who are mature and not a 20 something.
