#Review #AudioBook – Hemlock Island by Kelley Armstrong

A standalone horror novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong.

Laney Kilpatrick has been renting her vacation home to strangers. The invasion of privacy gives her panic attacks, but it’s the only way she can keep her beloved Hemlock Island, the only thing she owns after a pandemic-fueled divorce. But broken belongings and campfires that nearly burn down the house have escalated to bloody bones, hex circles, and now, terrified renters who’ve fled after finding blood and nail marks all over the guest room closet, as though someone tried to claw their way out…and failed.

When Laney shows up to investigate with her teenaged niece in tow, she discovers that her ex, Kit, has also been informed and is there with Jayla, his sister and her former best friend. Then Sadie, another old high school friend, charters over with her brother, who’s now a cop.

I’m a huge fan of Kelley’s supernatural universe. She’s one of the first authors that I devoured all of their books in a matter of weeks. When I came across this book, I didn’t read the description. Just saw that it’s by Kelley and that it’s a thriller, so I thought I’d give it a try.

First, the narrator for this, did a really good job. She portrayed the emotions from each character and even though she did the voices for everyone (including the guys), it wasn’t corny at all.

We meet Laney who heads back to Hemlock Island after finding out some of the renters had some issues. She discovers some witchcraft type objects and things take a turn for the worse from there.

I was invested through the whole book and then got to one of the later chapters and had to stop my run because I needed to pay attention. The twist took me off guard and I loved every second of it.

I honestly had no idea what was happening. I tried predicting and I’m so glad that I wasn’t able to.

I definitely want to read more of Kelley’s thrillers.
