Tabetha Waite

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Tabetha Waite began her writing journey at a young age. At nine years old, she was crafting stories of all kinds on an old Underwood typewriter. She started reading romance in high school and immediately fell in love with the genre. She gained her first publishing contract with Etopia Press and released her debut novel in July of 2016 – “Why the Earl is After the Girl,” the first book in her Ways of Love historical romance series. Since then, she has become a hybrid author of more than forty titles, published with both Soul Mate and WOLF Publishing, upcoming works with Dragonblade, as well as transitioning into Indie publishing. She has won several awards for her books.
She is a small town, Missouri girl who continues to make her home in the Midwest with her husband and two wonderful daughters. When she’s not writing novels filled with adventure and heart, she is either reading, or searching the local antique mall or flea market for the latest interesting find. You can find her on most any social media site, and she encourages fans of her work to join her mailing list for updates.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first one! I want to make sure the secondary characters are interesting and engaging, making readers want to continue the saga!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I always try to add some sort of unusual history! It makes for fun reading!

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t allow any negative reviews to impact you. Stay focused on what you love and remember why you started in the first place. Make sure to lift others up. It might be competitive, but there is plenty of books for everyone!

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I work a full time job, so it’s not about the time I write. I generally write 10k words a week, which evens out to 2k words M-F.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I’ve written more than 40 books. At this point I’m getting closer to 50. It’s tough to remember all the characters that have passed through my laptop, and especially one that sticks out more than the rest. That being said, I enjoyed writing Cosette du Bouir from The Secrets of Shadows. She was my first paranormal character and I had a lot of freedom to develop her story.

What is your definition of success?

Becoming a best seller and getting to write full time!

#WOTR23 #attendingauthor #spotlight – Tabetha Waite

Tabetha Waite

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Tabetha Waite – I write romance with adventure and heart! I’m a small town girl from Missouri who had big dreams of writing. Romance became my first love in high school when I started reading Harlequin and the timeless Gothics. I published my first book in 2016 and since then, have become a multi-award winning hybrid author with more than 30 published novels and novellas between indie and various small press publishers.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Generally the very last one! You feel like you are building all the anticipation until the last one and you want it to be worth the wait for the reader, while enjoying all the characters until then.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Always expect the unexpected! I like to add twists!

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t take the fun out of what you love. When you do, it becomes a chore, and not the enjoyment that you found at the beginning.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I work a full time job, so I generally spend about 2-3 hrs a day after supper in my office. And on a weekend I don’t have to go anywhere, I am usually there. I don’t watch much TV anymore!

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I will always love Orion and Athena. They were the couple from “Why the Earl is After the Girl,” the first book I got published.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

I honestly don’t even think about that. lol. I just strive to make my readers happy. But if I made a bestseller list, that would be pretty cool!

What is your definition of success?

Having someone tell me that they liked my stories. It’s as simple as that. If I made someone smile and brightened their day, then I did my job as a storyteller.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

Other than writing, I like to collect dolls! Most people think it’s creepy, but if there are any of my fellow peeps out there, I’d love to hear from you! Oh, and I’m a BIG Beauty and the Beast fan!

#WOTR20 #authorspotlight – Tabetha Waite

Tabetha Waite

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Tabetha Waite – I wanted to write since I was nine years old, but it wasn’t until I discovered the romance genre and happy endings that I decided I wanted to write historicals. I got my first publishing contract in 2016 and released “Why the Earl is After the Girl,” the first book in my Ways of Love series. Since then, I’ve won several awards for my novels. After transitioning to Indie, I’ve been involved in numerous anthologies with other authors. However, I did sign with Soul Mate Publishing for a historical paranormal that is set to come out in April.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I usually sit on my couch and I HAVE to listen to music! Different songs help to set the tone for certain scenes.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

The opportunity to meet people!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Probably Lisa Kleypas or JR Ward

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I work part time as a lunch lady, so I generally write during the week before and after work. I’m off in the summer so I get a lot done then. I try to save my weekends for my family.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Honestly, any time a reader messages me and says how much they liked my book is pretty memorable. It gives me the motivation to keep writing, that I’m not doing this just for my personal enjoyment.

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I have two actually. Midnight Bride by Kathleen Drymon was my bridge story from American to English history, and A Rose in Winter by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, just because it is so fascinating!
