#WOTR #Spotlight – Alison Bliss @AlisonBliss2

Alison Bliss

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m Alison Bliss, a born and bred Texan who currently lives in the Midwest with my amazingly supportive husband and two wonderful sons. I write humorous, sexy small town romance that I like to call, “Romance…with a sense of humor.” Love stories with heart, heat, laughter, sassy heroines, and deliciously southern alpha males.

When and Why did you start to write?

I started writing my first book back in 2010 after my older sister dared me to. I know that sounds strange, but I promise it’s one hundred percent true. Even though I have always been an avid romance reader and enjoyed penning stories for myself, I never thought of myself as a writer. But I’m the youngest of five girls. If you dare me to do something, chances are good that I’ll not only do it, but succeed at it. *grin* So I began serious writing and entered a local short story writing competition, where I won first place. Then I entered another online writing contest where three literary agents offered to represent me, one of which was my dream agent. I’m still with that same agent and now have two publishers and multiple books with each of them. So it’s been seven years since that dare took place, and I still love to read and write romance stories. Only now I get paid to do it. 🙂

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

Linda Howard is my favorite author, and I always recommend her books to everyone. Other popular favorites include Nora Roberts, Jennifer Crusie, and Janet Evanovich. I also love books by Tessa Bailey, Kate Meader, Rebecca Zanetti, and Lori Wilde. But there are so many amazing authors out there, and I’m always finding new ones that I’m excited to read and recommend.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

The most surprising thing I’ve found about the writing process is that there is no one-size-fits-all writing process when it comes to books. What works for one story won’t work at all for the next one. Each manuscript I write requires a different approach. I sometimes wish there was a magic formula for writing a book that would make things in the story easier to figure out, but then I think that the book wouldn’t be unique and have that special feel to it that readers love so much. So the magic must come from within…even if that means the author has to create a new writing process for each book.

What are you working on now?

I’m working on multiple projects. I’m writing the third book in my A Perfect Fit series, featuring plus-size heroines. And fans of my Tangled in Texas series will be happy to learn that I’m working on the third book in that series as well. Bobbie Jo needs her happily ever after, and I’m excited that I’ll be able to share her story with readers! I also have a few “secret” projects that are on the back burner at the moment, but I’m so excited by these and think my fans will love them!

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

I’m definitely a serious plotter. My outlines tend to be long and description, sometimes totaling over a hundred pages. I have to know what direction I’m going in to keep from writing myself into a corner. The shortest outline I’ve ever written for a book was still over fifty pages long.
