Essential Beginnings (Surviving Ashes, #1)

Change is coming…

Maverick Beckett took his much needed annual vacation up to Washington State to relax with his old friends from his years in the Corps. He also had every intention of extinguishing the fires that arose between him and a certain local woman he couldn’t get out of his mind until the unthinkable happened.

Nothing is as it seems…

Henley Varano loved the simple anonymous life that her remote hometown provided. She’d had the wealthy existence of a fashion model and the fame that came with it only to find it lonelier than she could have ever imagined. Unfortunately, men only saw the fictitious person she appeared to be in the magazines and not the real woman she was—even the one man she’s wanted for years.

Surviving is just the beginning…

An apocalyptic event changes the course of their lives when the massive Yellowstone Caldera erupts. Panic ensues among the small town, causing Mav and Henley to witness the best and worst of humanity. They must work as a team to create a new existence before the fallout of harsh and fiery elements overtakes their safe haven. Along the way, they might just find that they need each other more than ever.

Series Description: The world as they know it is about to change. The Yellowstone Caldera has erupted in an apocalyptic fashion, triggering simultaneous events around the world. The one thing that will either bring society together or rip their lives apart is the need for survival as a group. A company of former Marines will do whatever it takes to reach an area in the far recesses of northeastern Washington State, a region they feel is uniquely equipped for endurance and existence in what is left of the crumbling infrastructure of the United States. Follow along as Kennedy Layne conveys each of their stories as these brave men and women face the harsh, fiery elements of an inevitable apocalypse while encountering passion, intrigue, and suspense…

angies review

I received a copy of the book from the author.

I love dystopian and End of the World type of books.  It doesn’t matter if its Zombies, Aliens, a Virus or in this case giant volcano that could really cause this kind of cataclysmic disaster.…..I am in!!  Yes please!!

Mav is hanging out at the fishing lodge with his Father type bestie, Tank.  Tank is a prepper to the max.  He loves has old military guys and loves to plan a visit every year.  This year everything changed.  When Mav is getting ready to leave, Tank tells him that his spidey senses are going off and to stay.

Henley is a famous fashion model who has run home to the small town because of the fame getting to her.  Today she is happy running the lodge with Tank and hiding from Mav when he returns to visit.  Mav and Henley have this crazy chemistry and they are drawn to each other but a past misunderstanding has put Henley on the defensive of Mav.  Good think Tank is there to kick her butt in to gear plus when the world is gonna end, you kind get over stuff quickly!!  LOL

I am going to say this book is slow…now not bad slow or kill me now slow but it’s gotta  lot of back story you need plus a cast of characters to get introduced too along with the Yellowstone super volcano erupting…so you see why I say slow???  You need all of this information to get to know the heart of the characters and who to root for or who to growl at when they appear on the pages!!  Tank is an awesome guy and he has a giant heart to help out his military family, Lodge family and the entire small town near the lodge…….I loved the love story and the, what I considered, actual could happen facts of the story.  But what I loved the most about the story is the theme of family throughout the book.  I can’t wait to read the rest of the books because I want to get to know Mav’s other military hotties.
