Celebrating Pride with Thia Mackin #wotr26 #attendingauthor #spotlight

Happy Pride Month everyone!  Twinsie Tenise here. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to answer the questions for our pride month celebration. I thought hard about the questions and had fun coming up with them. I love that the authors seemed to have as much fun answering them. We will be celebrating all month with author spotlights  as well as reviews for some of the LGBTQIA  books we’ve read this year.  Check back daily to learn more about that days featured author or book and add to your TBR piles. I hope you enjoy getting to know a little about all of these wonderful authors and their work.

🏳‍🌈Tell us your name and a little about yourself?
I’m Thia Mackin. I write urban fantasy romance—spicier than most urban fantasy but less spicy than paranormal romance. You usually get two spicy scenes per book, but most of my action is driven by war, battles, and fights.
🏳‍🌈How many books have you written? Do you have a favorite?
I’m at ten (10) books, and I would never pick a favorite, but if I did, it would be my poly book—Omega. 😉
🏳‍🌈Do you write one book and finish it completely before starting the next? If not, how do you keep yourself from confusing the projects?
I have more than 10,000 words on five projects right now. The characters are all so distinct in my mind that I have no worries about mixing them up.
🏳‍🌈What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is it a default setting?
I write in comic sans for fiction and verdana for non-fiction.
🏳‍🌈How do you ensure your LGBTQ characters feel authentic and mutifaceted, rather than just serve a plot function?
I don’t write to a specific pairing sub-genre. I don’t have to worry like some of my favorite authors to read have to worry about staying MM or MF(+). It means some readers may skip my MM and poly books, but the characters get what they want.
🏳‍🌈Do you have a favorite piece of LGBTQ history or fun fact you would like to share?
From my home state: The Williams-Nichols Collection at the University of Louisville is one of the largest LGBTQ+ libraries and archives in the nation with over 3,500 books, 3,000 periodicals, 1,500 items of ephemera, and 25 linear feet of manuscripts documenting Kentucky-regional and national queer history.
🏳‍🌈What is one of your favorite books or movies with LGBTQ representation?

Feel free to share more than one, I know it is difficult as a reader to pick one favorite of anything. Especially if its book related.
“Hostile Takeover” by Lucy Lennox is one of my absolute favorite books. It is MM. But Ames Mills’ poly books and anything Tal Bauer… yeah, one isn’t enough.
🏳‍🌈What is something you have used for a bookmark that IS NOT a bookmark?
My cat’s whisker! One of them lost one on my bed and it was so majestic that I had too.
🏳‍🌈Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what are some of your favorite genres or songs?
I’m very specific about the music I listen to while writing, usually listening to the same song on repeat through an entire scene. The genre varies by scene but is a lot of rock.
🏳‍🌈What is a super specific detail you know about one of your characters that has no relevance to the story?
Squirrel prefers tap water.
