#review #darkromance Headcase (Necessary Evils #4) by: Onley James

Asa Mulvaney is half of a psychopathic whole. He and his twin brother live together, party together…kill together. In the Mulvaney family, murder is the family business and business is good. When an experiment separates Asa and his brother, Asa is forced to navigate the world on his own for the first time in his life.

Zane Scott is a small-time crime blogger and amateur sleuth, but he dreams of a byline in a major paper someday. When he winds up at a boring fundraiser beside Asa Mulvaney, they share an intensely passionate encounter that leaves Zane with an ache in his chest and a story idea that could make his career dreams a reality.

At a nearby college, a cluster of suicides isn’t what it seems. When Asa’s father asks him to look into it, he sees the perfect opportunity to see his little crime reporter again. And Asa needs to see him again. Zane’s suspicious of Asa’s motives, but he won’t say no to a chance to peek behind the Mulvaney family curtains.

As the two unravel a sinister plot, Asa’s obsession with Zane grows and Zane finds being Asa’s sole focus outweighs almost anything, maybe even his career–which is good for Asa because loving a Mulvaney is a full-time job. Can he convince Zane that he’s worth navigating a family of psychopaths and his pathologically jealous twin, or will Zane learn the hard way that the Mulvaney boys always get what they want? Always.

Headcase is a high heat, intense, lovers-to-frenemies, psychopath romance with an HEA and no cliffhangers. It features an obsessive, calculating psychopath and a wannabe reporter who will stop at nothing to earn himself a major byline. As always, there’s gratuitous violence, very dark humor, enough killers to fill an auditorium, and enough heat to melt your kindle. This is book 4 in the Necessary Evils series. Each book follows a different couple.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

Zane is a wannabe field reporter hoping for his first big break. He thinks he has it with the “dirt” he has dug up on The Mulvaney’s. He sets out to get that information any way he can.
Asa is bored and alone. He and his twin are separated by 100s of miles and Asa does not like it. His dad makes him attend a ceremony in his place which is where Asa and Zane meet.
I will keep this short and sweet. I am in love with this series and I want to read all the books to get all the information. These are interconnected standalones and I’m reading in order. I’m obsessed with this family. I freaking love Asa, he is great! With that being said, I didn’t like Zane at all. Besides what he could give Asa sexually, I didn’t think they were a good fit at all. I kept on listening, hoping he would redeem himself but it didn’t happen for me. He was just super annoying and overly dramatic about everything, in my opinion. Up next is Asa’s twin Avi and his new assistant, Felix. Oh I’ve been looking forward to these 2 since book 3 when I started putting together what was about to transpire between the pair.

#review #darkromance Moonstruck (Necessary Evils #3) by: Onley James

Atticus Mulvaney is the eldest son of eccentric billionaire, Thomas Mulvaney—a role he takes very seriously. Atticus takes everything seriously. Like his brothers, Atticus is a psychopath, raised to right the wrongs of a broken justice system. Unlike his brothers, he’s not very good at it.

Jericho Navarro is no psychopath, but he is a vicious killer. Like Atticus, he also has a secret life. To most, he’s just a mechanic. But to a ragtag group of social misfits, he’s Peter Pan, teaching them to eliminate those who prey on the weak with extreme prejudice.

When Atticus and Jericho come face to face over a shared enemy, their accidental meeting ends in an explosively hot hookup neither can forget. But they have nothing in common. Atticus is a buttoned-up closeted scientist and Jericho is a man on a mission, determined to find and punish those responsible for the death of his sister. Still, Jericho can’t stay away. And, truthfully, Atticus doesn’t want him to.

As Jericho’s mission begins to bleed into Atticus’s life, two separate but equally brutal families will need to learn how to fight together to take out a common enemy. But no amount of brute force can show Jericho how to scale the walls of a psychopath’s heart. Can Jericho convince Atticus that, sometimes, the couple who kills together stays together?

Moonstruck is a high heat, intense psychopath romance with an HEA and no cliffhangers. It features a fumbling, sexually confused maniac and the dominating, unapologetic gang leader who can’t stop tormenting him. As always, there’s gratuitous violence, very dark humor, more killers than you can count, and enough explosive chemistry to level a city block. This is book three in the Necessary Evils series. Each book follows a different couple.

5 STARS

Ohhhh Atticus…
Hes the sweet psycho who isn’t quite like his brothers. Hes not exactly a fan of the mayhem and murder as it tends to be a bit messy. Like Atticus, Jericho is also a killer. Unlike Atticus, Jericho enjoys the killing part. Jericho is on a mission to find out who murdered his sister. He just wasn’t expecting to fall for a psychopath in the process.
Atticus is my favorite Mulvaney so far! Although I’m sure I’m not the only one impatiently waiting to see what is going on with Thomas and Aedan. Hopefully their story is soon. The suspense is killing me.

#review #darkromance #audiobook Psycho (Necessary Evils #2) by: Onley James Narrated by: Liam DiCosimo

August Mulvaney has always been exceptional. As the genius son of an eccentric billionaire, his off-putting behavior is often blamed on his high IQ. They say there’s a thin line between genius and madness. August is both—a brilliant professor loved by his students and a ruthless, obsessive killer tasked with righting the wrongs of a failing justice system. And he’s just found his latest obsession: Lucas Blackwell.

Lucas Blackwell was once the golden child of the FBI, using his secret talent as a clairvoyant to help put away society’s worst. Until, with a touch, he discovers his co-worker is a killer and his life falls apart. Now, the world thinks he’s crazy and that co-worker wants him dead. He seeks refuge at a small college, hoping to rebuild his life and his reputation. But then he runs into August Mulvaney. Literally.

August is immediately intrigued with Lucas and his backstory. He doesn’t believe in psychics, but there’s no missing the terror in his eyes when they collide in the hallway. Now, August has a problem. Lucas knows his secret, and August knows he wants Lucas. And August always gets what he wants.

Can he convince Lucas that not all killers are created equal and that having a psychopath in his corner—and in his life—might be just what he needs?

Psycho is a fast-paced, thrill ride of a romance with an HEA and no cliffhangers. It features a psychopath hell-bent on romance and a disgraced FBI agent attempting to redeem himself. As always, there’s gratuitous violence, very dark humor, and scenes so hot it will melt your kindle. This is book 2 in the Necessary Evils series. Each book follows a different couple.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

Lucas has a gift that has got him into some trouble as of late. Hes in a new town with a new job trying to keep to himself because things are a whole lot easier that way. Lucas knows its only a matter of time before HE (who you shall find out about early on) finds him. And Lucas is scared.

August is an actual psychopath. He is not capable of feeling any sort of human emotion. With that being said, there is something about his new colleague that has the man feeling… well he is definitely feeling something. It takes August a hot minute to convince Lucas that he is serious about wanting to keep him. As I’m sure you already know since this is book 2, there is nothing normal about this family and that is one of the things that makes them so addictive! This is a messed up, messy af relationship but as the pair navigate this thing between them, you start to find that everyone has a different Love Language and how could anyone question these 2 souls and their connection?

I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS SERIES! I had to stop myself from immediately diving into book 3. I needed to write reviews for books 1 and 2 first. Who thought a family of trained killers could be so freaking hilarious?! And you can tell their dad gets annoyed with their antics. It was fun to listen to. Liam did a phenomenal job with all of the different character voices.

#review #seriesstarter Unhinged (Necessary Evils #1) by: Onley James

Adam Mulvaney lives a double life. By day, he’s the spoiled youngest son of an eccentric billionaire. By night, he’s an unrepentant killer, one of seven psychopaths raised to right the wrongs of a justice system that keeps failing.

Noah Holt has spent years dreaming of vengeance for the death of his father, but when faced with his killer, he learns a daunting truth he can’t escape. His father was a monster.

Unable to ignore his own surfacing memories, Noah embarks on a quest to find the truth about his childhood with the help of an unlikely ally: the very person who murdered his father. Since their confrontation, Adam is obsessed with Noah, and he wants to help him uncover the answers he seeks, however dark they may be.

The two share a mutual attraction, but deep down, Noah knows Adam’s not like other boys. Adam can’t love. He wasn’t born that way. But he refuses to let Noah go, and Noah’s not sure he wants him to.

Can Adam prove to Noah that passion, power, and protection are just as good as love?

Review by Twinsie Tenise

It has been 2 years, Noah is ready to kill the man you killed his father. What he didn’t expect was to have a change of heart and the reason for this change is infuriating! Adam told him he didn’t want to see it but Lucas refused to hear him. In hindsight he really should have listened.
Adam is a psychopath and trained killer. He has no feelings. Has no idea what it feels like to feel happiness, sadness, empathy, love. Something happens though the moment he sets eyes on Noah and he has a strong urge to protect the other man. This is a foreign concept to Adam. With the help of a couple humans in his life who actually feel emotion, Adam does his best to show the other man compassion and care. Sometimes though, its not just the things we do, but who we are both inside and out that attracts our souls to another. Even psycho killers need a person. Noah is the perfect person for Adam and a wonderful addition to the Mulvaney family.

#review #uglycry Daybreak by: Kate Hawthorne

When a sunny young musician gets stranded with a grumpy mechanic during a snowstorm, a lack of heat is the least of their problems…

Liam Luckett is on an adventure. He’s dropped out of his Master’s program without telling his overbearing parents and set off on a road trip across the country. Armed with little more than his guitar, he’s looking for his best life. He never expected his car to break down in the middle of nowhere Vermont with a huge storm pending, leaving him stranded and at the mercy of a hunky local mechanic.

Jasper Cunningham is in a holding pattern. Three years after the death of his husband, he still hasn’t moved on. A hot, younger stranded tourist is exactly the sort of complication this mechanic has been avoiding. But he also can’t leave him in the snow. He brings Liam home and lets him sleep on the couch. The air is heavy with more than snow, and when the power goes out, the two men become closer than either of them expects.

Every silken note Liam sings on that guitar thaws Jasper’s heart a little. Suddenly, Liam’s itchy feet aren’t so eager to move on. When their feelings get too big to ignore, the bond they’ve formed is tested. Will daybreak leave them going their separate ways?

This opposites attract, hurt/comfort romance features a grumpy widower who is only soft for one specific blue-eyed musician, a remote farmhouse, a friendly dog, and enough snow to knock the power out until love catches fire.

Jasper is sad. He has been sad for years since his husband passed. He doesn’t quite know how to move on but hes decided to try. It just so happens, on the very day he decides this, a stranger will breakdown nearby. Jasper gets a call from a friend about an out of towner broke down. He is the towns mechanic and ends up agreeing to fix the vehicle for Liam. Enter the snow storm as well as some other events and this job that should have been complete by the next day, turns into a bit longer. Liam is stuck with no car and nowhere to stay so Jasper begrudgingly agrees to let him crash at his place for the night…

I’m not sure why I thought this would be an easy read/listen. It started out inconspicuous but then outta nowhere it shattered my freaking heart. Thanks a whole lot for that, Kate! (I’m sure if she read this she would just cackle because she lives for readers tears!) In all seriousness though, I loved this book. Even the parts that made me ugly cry. Both men were perfect for one another and their story was beautiful. It has been 24 hours and I’m still trying to move on. I’m sure I will eventually but I feel like it is one of those books that I will carry with me in my heart.

Grant is a musician on a break with an injury. He is in town looking for a relative he never knew existed. Avery is a nutritionalist at the local retirement facility. When a random dog ruins Avery’s morning, that is just the beginning of what is shaping up to be the WORST DAY EVER! As if the heat weren’t enough, the power for half the town goes out and that lands Avery with a few temporary roommates. This book has 2 love stories in one which was a wonderful added bonus. I also loved the magic that seemed to keep happening. This was a great afternoon read.

She loves chocolate, hot tea, sweet wine with friends, pizza, and naps along with reading and writing romance. These loves don’t leave much time for housework, much to the chagrin of her husband. I thought I was in love with my best friend. Turned out, I was in love with someone else instead.
My best friend broke my heart.
I try convincing myself that he’s who I’m meant to be with when secretly, I’m thankful he broke things off between us.
There’s someone else but he never notices me staring, hoping, longing for him.
When he finally comes around, after I make the first move, sparks explode but I have to tell myself that it’s just a one-time thing.

Both men are attracted to each other but there are a couple of huge hurdles they need to jump before they could ever think about more.
One being the 16 year age gap. And the other one being that Rhett is the father of Shane’s best friend and that makes things even more complicated.
I love the dual POV. Its always nice to know what is going through the minds of all parties. I’m enjoying these MM novellas from JM. My only complaint is that they could be longer. But then they wouldn’t be novellas. Lol I’m just a greedy reader and now I wanna know everything about all 4 of the men we’ve met so far in this series.

#review #darkromance The Contract (Dangerous Games #1) by: Rina Saint

Dante
My moral compass is broken. That’s why I need rules. They keep me from killing people I shouldn’t. They keep me from crossing certain lines. I’m possessive. Obsessive. Deviant. And I like to fight.

That’s what I see in Tristan when I spot him working in the swanky nightclub. His cool detachment is a mask. He’s angry, he’s lost, and he’s totally new to what he’s feeling.

I want to feel that anger. I want it to burn me. I want him to fight me—then I want to feel him submit. He won’t have any choice, not in my play room. He would look perfect there on the black sheets … with red blooming across his creamy skin.

Tristan
Okay, so I’m not as straight as I thought. I can deal with that, but I don’t know if I can deal with him. I could tell Dante was dangerous even before I saw him talking to a mobster connected to my brother’s death. I mean, Dante cornered me and bit me. I don’t even know him! He’s a thousand red flags. And yet … my body has never responded to anyone like it responds to him. That’s why I sit down with him one night after work.

Is this real? Are we actually about to discuss a sex contract? It looks so normal at first. He can’t hit me in the face. He can’t maim me. Why do we need rules for this?

“I don’t think you’re understanding this,” Dante tells me in his dark, sexy voice. “These are hard limits. Everything else—everything else—is fair game.”

He won’t tell me what that means. Half the fun, he says, is finding out.

Tristen starts a new job at an upscale bar. He thinks it is the best place to start to possibly get a lead on what happened to his missing brother. On night one he meets Dante. Dante has Tristen’s attention and Tristen is trying to figure out why he is so affected by the other man. I mean, after all Tristen is straight. Or is he really?

Dante is not a good man but he is good for Tristen- if that makes sense. As I read and slowly figured out Dante’s story, it made me want to fight someone. There is a reason hes the way he is and when Dante meets Tristen for the first time, he is addicted to the other man. He couldn’t stay away if he tried. Tristan turns out to be Dantes perfect match.

This one grabbed my attention from the get go. It was hot af with so much sexy time. The book is labeled as dark but I would also add that everything between the men was consensual. Everything the men did to one another was within the parameters of the contract. 2 consenting adults with some crazy kinks. Yeah things were violent at times but nothing that made either man want to stop. Please proceed with caution and read the warnings if you have triggers.

Nick has just divorced after being with one person his entire life. She cheated. Not once but twice then had the audacity to act like Nick was the bad guy. Nick moves into one side of a duplex that shares a backyard with the neighbor.
Enter neighbor…
Bryce moves in next door. The pair meet and become friends instantly. They spend all of their spare time together. And like it or not, Bryce becomes Nick’s wingman. These 2 men were blind af to what was blossoming before their eyes. To give them credit, neither have ever been attracted to another man so they were completely clueless about the looks one gave the other. The kind gestures that may have meant more. The inner turmoil the other was going through on the daily. Constantly I’m yelling outloud to the empty room- OMG WHY DO MEN HAVE TO BE SO FREAKING CLUELESS?! I mean yeah, they could have talked about their feelings but what is the fun in that? The route paved with the most angst sometimes makes for the best reads.

Nerdy, introverted genius lepidopterist, Lawson Gale, is an expert on butterflies. He finds himself in a small town in Tasmania on a quest from an old professor to find an elusive species that may or may not even exist.

Local Parks and Wildlife officer, Jack Brighton, is an ordinary guy who loves his life in the sleepy town of Scottsdale. Along with his Border collie dog, Rosemary, his job, and good friends, he has enough to keep from being lonely. But then he meets Lawson, and he knows he’s met someone special.

There’s more to catching butterflies, Jack realises. Sometimes the most elusive creatures wear bow ties, and sometimes they can’t be caught at all. Lawson soon learns there are butterflies he can’t learn about it in books. They exist only in a touch, in a kiss, in a smile. He just has to let go first, so these butterflies can fly.

Imago is the story of finding love, bow ties, and butterflies.

Lawson is in Tasmania for the week searching for something that doesn’t exist. Lol Jack runs into him on the plane and the pair get to know one another quite well throughout Lawsons stay. There is something about the adorable nerd who shows up in a bowtie that has Jack enamored. He wants nothing more than to see the other man smile. Its quickly becoming one of his favorite things. Imago ended with a HFN which was nice. I look forward to the next book in the series.
