Not a Hero (Sons of the Survivalist, #1)

In the Alaska wilderness, four streetwise boys became men—and brothers

Now the crazy ex-military survivalist who plucked Gabriel and three other boys from an abusive foster care home has died. But the sarge leaves them a final mission–to revive the dying town of Rescue.

Gabe is done with being a hero.

Wounded in body and soul, the retired SEAL simply wants to remain holed up in his isolated cabin. He sure doesn’t want to be chief of police in some defunct town. But he has his orders.

Audrey needs a place to hide

After the Chicago librarian discovers a horrendous crime, she wakes to an assassin in her bedroom. Injured and terrified, she flees, covering her trail every inch of the way. New name, new ID. New home. As Audrey learns to survive in Rescue, she begins to fall for the town…and the intimidating chief of police who protects it.

Can the shy introvert and the deadly police chief find a life together?

Despite the discord in town, Gabe is finding his own peace…with the quiet young woman who seems to have no past. She’s adorable and caring and so very lost. But how can he trust someone who lies to him with every breath she takes?

I received this book from an honest review.

**Clapping** Oh man!!  I was so excited for this new series and it did not disappoint.

Meeting the guys in the Shadowlands book with Z was a great introduction of the boys for us.  I gotta say Gabe and Hawk are the ones who I was wondering baout but Bull and Caz are just hilariously funny.  I can’t wait for the rest of the series.

This book was a perfect blend of characters.  Gabe is Mr. Anti-Social and Audrey/Julie is a “nerd” who has been lead to believe she isn’t anything special or worthwhile.  Seeing the two open up and form an amazing bond even under the guise of it being “Just One Night” was so angsty.

Gabe is so cool, calm and collected and once he knows Audrey/Julie’s backstory he is all in to keep her.  Audrey is so scared to open-up because she doesn’t want another death on her hands while hiding out from the bad guys.  When she finally opens-up to Gabe and her friends we know it’s not the end…… The story of Audrey/Julie on the run was great to read.  Seeing her desire to be in Chicago but falling for the small town charm and the heartbreak she was in about her future.

The story of the crazy religious cult is obviously going to be an issue in the next book or two.  I can’t wait to see what brother is going to be next…..Caz or Hawk.  I mean I wanna see the payer settle down but Hawk needs to be loved.  He has some serious ice walls that need to be broken down!!!

Defiance (Masters of the Shadowlands, #13.5)

Z’s day begins with sadness

A phone call from a dying friend leaves psychologist Zachary Grayson determined to fulfill the old survivalist’s request–a send-off that will comfort his grieving sons.

And then turns deadly

The death threat is only the beginning…because the letter isn’t a hoax. Z walks out of his office into a barrage of bullets. He can take being shot at, but when the second shot splinters the empty child-seat in his car, he’s shaken to the core. The horror of what would have happened if his little girl had been there spurs him to action.

Master Z is a Dom, a husband, a father—every instinct drives him to
protect those under his care. When the police can’t catch his stalker, he must take matters into his own hands.

He must keep danger far from those he loves.

Secrecy and distance is the key. The funeral in Alaska is the perfect
location, especially since Z won’t be alone. The survivalist’s sons have grown into men with lethal skills. With their help, he can trap the shooter and keep his family safe.

As long as his impetuous and all-too-observant wife, Jessica, doesn’t
discover he’s using himself as bait.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

YES!!  This book was a great sneak peak at one of my favorite Shadowlands couples.  Getting to hang with Master Z, Jessica and baby Sophia was the best. It made me remember why I fell in love with this series to begin with!!!

Master Z is so happy and in love with his family and Jessica.  When he gets the letter and an attempt is made on his life, our dominant loses focus and begins to spiral a bit.  The dynamic relationship of Z and Jessica is one of trust and respect so to see him keeping secrets because he thinks it’s the best thing made me sad.  I understood him COMPLETELY but I was still sad at him for not being honest with the woman he views as his equal everywhere except the bedroom*Wink*  Too bad for him, Z his sprite of a submissive and wife, won’t take no for an answer!!  When the conflict arises, and we are joined by deVeries…yikes I knew it was serious stuff!!  Because he is not one to be messed with.

I enjoyed the story of Z, the Stalker and Jessica but getting to know these new men made my little heart pitter patter!!  Gabe, Caz, Hawk and Bull are going to be definite fan favorites I am sure.  The little snippets we got to see of them men when they are dealing with the loss of their father plus helping out Z …yup this alpha lover was sold!!!

#ReleaseDay #BDSM #Review – Beneath The Scars (Masters of the Shadowlands #13) by Cherise Sinclair

Beneath the Scars

Josie doesn’t need any help raising her son.

Pregnant at sixteen, Josie learned the hard way about men and their empty promises. She picked herself up and is raising her eleven-year-old son. By herself. And that’s the way she intends it to stay. Unfortunately, her impressionable boy becomes fascinated by the scruffy, intimidating biker who lives next door.

The scars on Holt’s face are only the most visible of his wounds.

Out of the hospital after being attacked in his own damn house, Holt is coming to terms with the fact that his scars frighten people. Like his now-ex-girlfriend who ran after one look at him. Like his redheaded neighbor who hauled her boy away as if Holt was a serial killer. Fine. He’ll give the pretty bartender all the space she wants.

The Shadowlands will bring them together…

When Josie starts bartending in the exclusive, private club, she discovers her neighbor is a member. And a Master–a skilled powerful Dom who can make her fantasies come true. Slowly, the firefighter breaks down the walls around her heart, teaching her how to trust. How to love…

But when her son’s choices lead to disaster, can their relationship survive?

I received this book from the authors for an honest review.

Oh man was I excited to get a book about Holt.  I had a bit of a soft side for him after Uzuri’s book.  Now don’t go getting all crazy because Master Marcus is still my favorite but still Holt has my heart a fluttering.

Holt is a sweet, kind and gentle soul who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.  The fact he was attacked by a stalker and left with a few scars unfortunately chased away his girlfriend, Nadia.  He is a bit bruised but still hopeful he can find love when he meets his sprite of a neighbor Josie.

Josie is dedicated to her son and will move Heaven and Earth to make sure he gets what he needs.  When the new neighbor moves in, she freaks because a man on a bike with tats and scars has to be a drug dealing biker right????  She is none too thrilled he shares a duplex with her great aunt either.

When Josie loses her job a chance meeting with Master Z lands her a job in the Shadowlands.  She loves the job as a bartender.  The hours fit her need and schedule, but the pay is FANTASTIC. Now she is stunned to see her neighbor is not only a member but an honored MASTER…say what????

Josie and Holt’s chemistry is amazing to read.  They have a zing every scene they are in together.    The couple had a lot to work out because of Josie’s fear of men and her trust issues after her life experiences taught her romance and love just exist.  I think for Me, as a reader, I loved the confidence Holt has in regards to chasing Josie.  I love a confident man but a man who also knows when to give his little scared pet a little bit of space before he overwhelmed her AGAIN with what she didn’t know she needed.

The backstory of the arsonist is great reads.  I loved how it all played out plus who all came to help in Holt in the ending.
