#Review #NewRelease- Alpha Wolf (Olento Research Series #1) by: Sarah Noffke

34499615

Olento Research wants to control the world. The Lucidite Institute wants to save it.

Twelve men went missing.

Six months later they awake from drug-induced stupors to find themselves locked in a lab.

And on the night of a new moon, eleven of those men, possessed by new–and inhuman–powers, break out of their prison and race through the streets of Los Angeles until they disappear one by one into the night.

Olento Research wants its experiments back. Its CEO, Mika Lenna, will tear every city apart until he has his werewolves imprisoned once again. He didn’t undertake a huge risk just to lose his would-be assassins.

However, the Lucidite Institute’s main mission is to save the world from injustices. Now, it’s Adelaide’s job to find these mutated men and protect them and society, and fast. Already around the nation, wolflike men are being spotted. Attacks on innocent women are happening. And then, Adelaide realizes what her next step must be: She has to find the alpha wolf first. Only once she’s located him can she stop whoever is behind this experiment to create wild beasts out of human beings.

Goodreads

Ok, where do I even start? Should I mention that you don’t even need to read my review (you can if you want of course, lol) but you should stop and read Alpha Wolf, like, now! If this is your first Sarah Noffke book or you are an avid reader of hers, you won’t be disappointed….at all! The characters are well developed and fun to follow. The world building is intense enough to put you right in the middle of the story. This is the start of a new series but if you have read Sarah’s other books you will see other characters pop up. This is sooooo exciting!

Olento research has figured out how to make werewolves after kidnapping 12 unsuspecting men. They are able to escape and this is where the Lucidites come in to play. Olento Research’s goal is to make these men into assassins and the Lucidites are trying to save them along with all of humanity. Sarah Noffke writes a great bad guy (oxymoron?) and you will quickly learn to love to hate him. Adelaide is the agent that has been assigned this case by the Lucidites to try and solve. This is where we have a little fun. Adelaide is the daughter of the greatest, er, um, worst, British bloke the Lucidites have ever employed. (if you don’t know who Ren is, you should try her other series) She is definitely her father’s daughter. She has been given a partner who she thoroughly loathes. Seeing these two banter back and forth keeps things light with all the heavy that is going on. As they start to unravel the web that Mika Lenna has weaved with his werewolf research the Lucidites begin to find some truths. But we all know with the truth there come more questions.

As the plot thickens there are more twists and turns and rollercoaster rides full of wonder. There are more characters that are introduced and they all play an integral part in the plot. This is a great twist on the werewolf society we have all come to know with some dream travelers as well. Truly an amazing start to a spin off series. Reader beware…there is a cliffhanger. Sarah Noffke knows how to write those as well! Bring on the sequel!

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

This is the first book in a new series. If you have ever read one of Sarah’s books you know she likes to pull characters from other series.  This is no different.  You will see some from Lucidites and Ren’s series.  I love getting to see past characters.  But don’t worry if you have not read any of Sarah’s series before you will be able to jump in.

What would you do if you were a perfectly normal person who woke up one day and found you were taken, held up in a cell, and would turn in to an awful monster every 7 days? Well that is where 12 unsuspecting men ended up.  After escaping a few learned that they were not only Werewolves but also Dream Travelers and found out about the Lucidite Institute.

You see Olento Research is on a mission to create the most powerful fighting machine and now that their experiments escaped they are on a mission to recover them all. However, some are in the custody of the Lucidites and it is Adelaide’s job to find all 12 men and protect them from being recaptured by Olento Research.

Let me talk about some of the characters in this book first and foremost there is Adelaide she is her father’s daughter no doubt (if you have not read REN series please do so). I love her just as much as I did her father. She will say what she wants when she wants and will not hold back.  Oh and don’t ever think she will remember or call you by your real name she was constantly getting names wrong (no matter if on purpose or not). There is Rox the FBI agent assigned as Adelaide’s partner and yes this goes over just peachy keen with Adelaide….NOT!! Rox is a flirtatious spitfire and keeps Adelaide on her toes or at least makes her come up with great sayings.  We are also introduced to a few of the wolfs, Zephyr, Connor, and Kaleb.  Zephyr is the alpha wolf and the one Adalaide and Rox set out to find first. Connor was the one left behind and was a drug addict which probably worked out in his and the Lucidites favor. Then there was Kaleb the runt of the pack.  This brings me to the villain of the story and wow Sarah has a way of making them worse with each story.

I was so wrapped up in this story I did not want it to end I needed to know more and what happened to the other 9 men. Sarah has a way of keeping me guessing with each twist of the story just when I thought I knew what’s going to happen it would go in a different direction and I was like no WAY! We are in for one crazy adventure and I am ready.

#Review – Secrets of the Tally by Halie Fewkes

26416390

Meet Allie: she’s just woken up in an empty forest with blood on her hands and everything she’s ever known wiped from her mind. In her survival-oriented world, people are hunted by vicious predators and it quickly becomes clear that they are specifically hunting her.
Allie’s friends and sister have no insight as to why she’s a target, and her only clue is a list of tally marks she finds tucked away, detailing how many lives she’s saved and how many deaths she’s caused. Judging by the amount of ink slashed across the page and the fact that nobody seems to know about it, Allie knows she used to have secrets that need to be recovered.
Without knowing whom to trust, she finds herself drawn to a new stranger in the caves they call home, and even though he won’t talk about his own past, he’s ready to help Allie recover hers.
The problem now is that Allie’s instinct to survive is the only thing strong enough to bring her memories back. Flashes of her old self will only surface to save her from life threatening danger, so if she wants to avoid living as an echo of her former self, danger is what she must seek.

Goodreads

Secrets of the mind! That is exactly how Secrets of the Tally is. I love these characters and the setting is perfect. Right at the beginning you are brought into this fantastical world that Allie cannot remember. She has lost her memory. She is now learning all about her new world and the monsters that haunt them. Allie has found that she has all the instinct she needs but it seems to only come out when she is put in a dangerous situation. She finds a couple clues and finds her friends and sister. They are all trying to help her remember. She just wants to remember. She then finds that she is a target by the Escalis (the monsters….) and keeps finding new truths and new lies. This is a fantastical tale of wizards, dragons, monsters and battles. Who comes out on top? Whose side is she really on? Who is she really? These are all things that will keep you guessing on this wild ride of epic proportions. It kept me on my toes the entire story. The characters are all very likable and the world building is excellent. I cannot wait to see what comes next for our heroine, Allie. I am extremely lucky to have found Halie Fewkes, she is a great author and did what the great ones do, keeps you wanting more!

#Review #NewRelease – Lux and Lies (Whitebird Chronicles, #1) by Meg Collett

Lux and Lies (Whitebird Chronicles, #1)

Mr. Robot meets UnReal in a story of celebrities and anarchists, reality shows and evil corporations, romance and self-discovery.

Nineteen-year-old Wren Iver is nothing more than a dying girl with cancer, but when megastar Sloan Lux dies right before filming starts on the year’s most anticipated reality show, producers scramble to secretly replace her—with Wren. She’s swept into Hollywood and promised a cure by VidaCorp, the nation’s richest pharmaceutical company, for simply replacing Lux. It’s a deal Wren can’t refuse.

The decision could get her killed, because she isn’t the only cast member with ulterior motives.

The Whitebirds, a social anarchist group, has infiltrated the show, and they’ll stop at nothing to use Sloane Lux’s fame to derail VidaCorp’s efforts to legalize their controversial, life-changing drug—a drug that might kill more people than it saves. Caught in the middle of a game between a powerful corporation and ruthless anarchist group, Wren will do anything to survive.

Will Wren secure the drug she needs to survive, or will she become another casualty in the anarchists’ fight against VidaCorp?

Goodreads

I was sucked in right from the beginning. This is a futuristic type thriller with twists in the story that will keep you guessing what is going to happen. Nothing about what is going on in the story is normal, in the best possible way. Wren is sick with lung cancer and is dying with no cure in sight. She rolls with all the other poverty stricken people in her area when all of sudden the tides change. She is given the opportunity of a lifetime….to survive. VidaCorp is going to cure her and all she has to do is replace Sloane Lux. Sounds easy, right? Lux is the biggest star of her lifetime. She is placed into the unreal world of Hollywood where everyone is watching you. She is training to be Lux and is brought into this crazy, intense world. She is given the enormous task of not only being Lux, but also is trying to find out who the insider is with the Whitebirds (a gang that has been after VidaCorp) as they have infiltrated this world. After many lies have been thrown around in this intricately carved society, there are also many truths that come forward. Some of these truths are absolutely unthinkable and the lies that have been strung throughout them are super intense. All throughout the story I kept thinking “this is the best twist” but then there is another turn. It’s like playing CLUE. Constantly trying to figure out who did it and how. I never saw the ending coming. Which in my eyes is one of the most important things about a story. Constantly kept me on the edge of my seat guessing. Cannot wait to see what happens with our girl, Wren!

#Review – Beaumont Brothers Complete Series by Susan Griscom

34687415

Profoundly Touching. “From the first page to the last I found myself enthralled in the story. Beautifully Wounded is an inspiring book, filled with hope and healing. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in this series.” – The Kindle Book Review

“Lena and Jackson’s story is sweet, emotional, and a truly enjoyable read.” – Literal Addiction

Beautifully Wounded

Sometimes the only way to salvation… is to take a leap of faith.

Jackson Beaumont prides himself on being a nature-loving, guitar-strumming, carefree sort of guy. When the mysterious Lena Benton walks into his bar looking scared and defeated, it’s not something he can ignore. He’s immediately consumed by concern for her and driven by his desire to help. She’s just so beautiful. So wounded.

After being shuffled from one foster home to another growing up, Lena Benton dreamt of finding her prince charming. When the captivating Troy Harington sweeps her off her feet shortly after high school graduation, she’s certain she’s found her happiness. Unfortunately, Troy’s true colors surface shortly after their marriage and things turn ugly. Lena only has one choice. She has to leave him. She has to run…

Lena’s escape has brought her to Jackson, and he clearly wants to be there for her, but can she trust anyone again after what she’s gone through? And will Jackson be able to help her heal without losing his heart?

Beautifully Used

Sex with no strings. That’s the way Brodie Beaumont likes it. He uses women and they use him…

Suave, handsome Brodie Beaumont has a history of using and being used by women. A past he doesn’t like to talk about has turned him into the type of guy he is today, but he hasn’t really cared. Until the beautiful and feisty Gabrielle Demeres comes back into his life.

Gabrielle learned the hard way what type of guy Brodie was the first time she met him. His crude seduction attempt earned him a slap to his face, and Gabrielle wasn’t exactly looking forward to another encounter with the cad. Unfortunately, her best friend was marrying Brodie’s brother, and Gabrielle and Brodie would be forced to spend time together whether she liked it or not.

As things in the small, quiet town of Turtle Lake take a decidedly dark and dangerous turn, Gabrielle and Brodie only have each other to turn to. Will they be capable of over coming their aversion to one another while coping with their own troubled pasts and dealing with the current dangers surrounding them? Or is their hostility just skating the fine line between love and hate?

Beautifully Undone

He was broken.

Full of hate and sorrow.

Asher Beaumont never asked for much in life. All he wanted was to play his guitar, write music, and be recognized and loved by his father. Unfortunately, that last desire was never realized. The bastard died when Asher was just a kid. Then thirteen years later, his mother dies of a brain tumor, shattering him even more and leaving him hating everyone around him, except for his two best friends, Melody Stevens and her brother, Teddy.

Melody Stevens has crushed on her best friend, Asher Beaumont her entire life. But it’s always been a secret passion. Never something she’d act upon. But when she tells Asher she’s prepared—and determined—to lose her virginity to a guy he considers to be nothing more than a cad who sleeps with anything that wears a skirt, her best friend offers her a proposition she can’t really refuse.

When Asher stumbles across a letter left by his mother before her death, begging him to seek out his half-brothers, he and Melody begin a journey of discovery.

Goodreads

Beautifully Wounded –
First off I need to say that one of the main characters of this story does experience physical abuse. This book is an incredible story with one strong woman that finds that she can trust again. If you have a trigger please be wary but the journey that she goes on is intense and passionate.
Lena is a woman who is being abused by her husband. She puts a plan in place to leave him but her plans are cut short when she needs to leave sooner rather than later. She does a series of things to hide her tracks well but she needs to stop to regroup. While trying to find this place to grab a coffee and figure out what her next move will be, she meets Jackson Beaumont. When he sees her he has a connection with her that he cannot shake. He is drawn to her, to help her. She reluctantly decides to stick around and to try and help herself but what she doesn’t count on is the trusting, loving, kind natured Jackson. He wants nothing more than to help her help herself. He shows her she can be independent and still ask and accept help from others.
This is a beautifully written insta-love with a breath taking happily ever after. Lena and Jackson help each other find a better person in themselves. I am absolutely in love with the Beaumont Brothers series. Grab your tissues….you’re gonna need them.

Beautifully Used –
I adore the Beaumont Brothers! This is Brodie and Gabrielle’s story. We have two people that couldn’t be more opposite of one another. Their first encounter was not fun and they are dreading seeing each other now. Brodie has a past that makes him who he is today, a playboy that will not commit to spending two nights with the same woman let alone commit to a relationship. Gabrielle has a past that she has kept hidden from everyone and has made her a bit more reserved than most. All hell breaks loose and they lean on each other for support. To watch their relationship bloom and feel every single emotion is beautiful. The author has an amazing way with words and will rock your world when you find out about their pasts!
There is a respect that these two develop for one another. Fear and rejection have made them weary but their love is incredible!

Beautifully Undone –
6 BEAUTIFUL STARS! “A streaming trail of need followed by want confused the hell out of me.” This almost sums the book up. Forgive me now for being so vague but I absolutely refuse to give any spoilers and have an incredible need to tell you all the reasons why you need to read this book. Asher and Melody are my new favorite book couple!
You know right from the start of the story that it is going to be deep. Amazing friendship, hate, love, confusion, and some HOT scenes! Asher, Melody, and her brother, Ted have been very close friends since they were young. What happens when you are friends with someone of the opposite sex? People misconstrue things and no one approaches you because they think you are taken. While going through a deep family loss, confusion is rising fast regarding feelings about your best friend and some long lost relatives. Asher and Melody are easy to fall in love with right from the beginning. There are many twists along their journey that will keep you stuck to this story. It’s like gravity!

#WOTR #REVIEW – Rude (King’s Harlots #3) by JM Walker

33009433

“An unexpected evil brings both the MC and Military world together in this brand new series by J.M. Walker”

His past haunts him.
Broken and destroyed, keep him silent and withdrawn.
Vice-One is the family he had always needed but it isn’t enough. Shadows of a nightmare threaten to take back the control he craves until Brogan Tapp unknowingly puts him in his rightful place.

She pretends to be happy.
Smile. Laugh. Repeat.
Going through the emotions of everyday life when really, she’s a scared little girl on the inside.
She tries hard to be what society considers as normal when Coby Porter helps her embrace the darkness within. He shows her it’s okay to be different.

Their souls collide, giving them the comfort they need when an unknown source takes pleasure in trying to rip them apart.

Goodreads

Intense. Dark. Dangerous. Delicious. What do you do when you find your match? Coby-effing-Porter and Brogan-little one-Tapp. The most unlikely of pairs. In the past stories we learn that Coby is a man of few words. He only speaks when necessary and is like a ghost. Brogan is a small girl but is one of the toughest of the King’s Harlots. She is extremely outspoken and doesn’t beg for anything or anyone.

As King’s Harlots and Vice-One are dealing with their own personal issues they are still trying to get to the bottom of the trafficking scandal. One night Brogan is “interrogating” someone from the organization and Coby sees a very dark side of Brogan. What most people would find dark, scary, and extremely intimidating, Coby fills with a lustful desire for Brogan. Both have had their fair share of people they have slept with trying to sate their appetite but neither have been able to let go like they do with each other. They are in a complex game of give and take. Both have had terrible childhoods, very different but similar all the same. And here is where they they really start to rely on using each other. Brogan almost dies in an accident and Coby becomes extremely protective of her. Then, Boom! Buckle up for an intense ride!

And this is about all I can tell you of the actual story so there are no spoilers. But there isn’t just one twist that will stop you in your tracks but there are several twists that are going to make you gasp. I mean real, heartfelt, deep in your soul gasps. I thought the other books in this series were intense but this one takes the cake. Once again the bad guy is truly twisted and really puts this story in its place. I find that when I read a series that the first book is usually the best and then they wind down as you go through the series. Truthfully, this is my favorite one yet. It is not your normal damsel in distress. Again, many gasps…promise. There is plenty of hotness that I have come to know from JM Walker with this series but the rollercoaster ride of emotions is the killer. Beware, you won’t be able to put this one down!

#WOTR #REVIEW – Stain (King’s Harlots #2) by JM Walker

28793866

“An unexpected evil brings both the MC and Military world together in this brand new series by J.M. Walker”

He wants to be alone.
Nightmares from his past keep him guarded and afraid.
Vice-One is his life. They’re his brothers—the only people who helped keep him out of his own head long enough to move on from the childhood he never asked for.

His therapy has been protecting his country, barely taking a break before beginning his next mission. But no amount of training can prepare him for his great challenge yet—convincing Meeka Cline that she will be his.

She wants out.
Her world fell apart when King’s Harlots no longer trusted her, but she continues to fight to gain back their respect.
All she wants is to help those wronged by the evil that has put a shadow on everyone she knows.
Asher Donovan comes to her for help when he needs her most only to have passion flare up between them. One problem: He’s her best friend.

Putting aside their friendship, they use the heat between them to please the depraved minds they now understand…

Goodreads

What did I just read?! Uh, yes! Gimme more! This can be read as a stand alone but I highly suggest reading Grit first because you get a feel for Asher and Meeka along with the rest of the supporting characters. Stain is aalllllllll about Asher and Meeka. These two have been best friends since they were kids. But that’s it, just friends. They trust each other implicitly. This is a story of friends turned lovers…sometimes a bit cliche’ but JM Walker hit it out of the park with their story.

Asher is undercover and trying to find the ringleader of this sex trafficking scandal that we learned about in Grit. He needs help and ends up bringing Meeka into this undercover as well, but not necessarily with her consent. As they are about to meet the person in charge now, Charles Brian, they end up kissing and things heat up extremely quick between the two of them. Now completely submerged into this other society they try to keep up appearances but things slowly unravel. Asher is more invested in the background of this story than you will ever expect. It will pull at your heartstrings! Unexpected people are in the middle and things go to hell in a hand basket very fast. Plenty of twists to keep you on your toes and constantly guessing who and what is going to happen next.

If there is one thing that JM Walker knows how to do, it’s writing a HAWT scene, but one thing I have come to love is the way the bad guy comes to life with her words. Charles Brian is a bad guy that you love to hate. As if Meeka and Asher aren’t intense enough on their own, the setting, the supporting characters and the bad guy will keep your heart pumping. I am not normally a fan of MC books but I cannot put this series down. Bad girls and their bad guys! Perfect combination.

“It’s up to you, Elvis.” Lincoln, the dealer, nodded in my direction and waited. I kept my eyes trained on the center of the table where chips sat in a small pile. I didn’t need to look at my cards again. I knew what I had: an eight and a queen of hearts.

There were six vampires at the table, counting both Gage and me. Gage had folded right after the deal, and so had one of the other players. I was the last to bet, and sometimes, I liked to spice things up a bit, so I matched the bet and sat back.

Heavy smoke hung in the air like delicate streams of fog, swirling in circled patterns under the light hanging from a long cord above the table. Four other lights hung on fixtures attached to the otherwise stark, tawny brown walls. Even with all the lights, the room seemed dark.

Maybe it was the darkness of the souls in the room. I wasn’t sure.

A droning sound buzzed from outside, a little annoying, but I managed to drown it out as I nonchalantly watched the faces around the table as the dealer revealed the flop.

The first card the dealer turned up was a jack of hearts, then a nine of hearts.

Holy fuck.

It was raining hearts for some reason, and I held two of them already. I held my breath, waiting for the third card in the flop. Crap, an eight of diamonds.

Not exactly what I was looking for, but a pair of eights with a queen high wasn’t completely a loss so I decided to hang in there and see if one more heart would show. There were still two cards to go, and a flush was possible.

I kept my eyes straight, my thoughts blank—or I tried—like I usually did as each card was revealed, always attempting to keep my composure, never deviating from the norm, not wanting to give away my emotions. I was an expert at reading people. Especially in a poker game. A blink of an eye, a slight twitch, a swallow, the slightest movement, anything…different could give someone’s hand away. I wanted to reach up and finger my shades that sat on top of my head. Just one little nudge and they’d be sitting comfortably on my face, shielding my eyes. But not only were dark glasses frowned upon in this high-stakes game of Texas Hold ’em, but any movement out of the ordinary might tip someone off about my cards.

This wasn’t our normal gathering with my brothers at the mansion. This was a high roller, unsanctioned but heavily guarded poker game with some seriously high-powered city officials that I’d bet my right nut were a drug cartel of some sort or another. The two thugs in the monkey suits positioned on either side of the door to the entrance had stood like statues most of the night; the bulge of a holster protruding from under their jackets an obvious clue. At least they were on the outside of the room, but they still remained at the ready if their services were required.

Gage and I didn’t normally seek out games with such high stakes, but he’d been bored lately, and when he ran into Lincoln—the game’s host—at Club Royal a couple of weeks ago, Lincoln had

invited Gage and me to join. Said they’d recently lost two of their regulars and needed a couple of fill-ins.

When Gage approached me, I’d shrugged him off at first, not wanting any part of something that sounded so sketchy, but after he’d pestered me for the entire week, I finally gave in, needing a distraction from the long hours—sometimes days apart—from Lily, the sexy and sweet vampire I’d been trying to get to know better. Except, she was either playing hard to get, or just wasn’t that interested in me. Though I had a difficult time believing the latter of those two options since she continued to meet me whenever she had the time or, in her words, “could get away.” Away from what, I hadn’t been able to find out. Yet.

Getting thoughts of Lily off my mind was nearly impossible Her fair, silky-smooth skin; her mesmerizing dark coffee eyes that could hold my gaze for hours on end; the tips of her long, thick locks kissing the cleavage of her breasts where my lips longed to skim. I managed to clear my head just in time, as it was my turn to bet again. I slid my bet forward, raising the pot three thousand for appearance’s sake. In truth, without another heart or a ten, I had squat. I didn’t think the pair of eights would cut it. I had an excellent chance for a straight or a flush if either of the next two cards went my way. Since Gage had already folded, he sat still as a statue beside me, his hands together on the edge of the table. I knew he was busting a gut wondering what I held in my hand.

There were only four of us left in this hand, and I didn’t want to go home with a loss. Not against these guys. Two of them sat puffing on brown cigarettes, looking rather tough. They were tough, the sort who would drain the blood from a homeless person and leave them to die in the gutter without so much as a “thank you, ma’am.” Particularly, the one at the end with the light brown wool Stetson on

his head. The word dangerous exuded from his pores. He wore that hat pulled low on his brow, shading his eyes just enough to where it was legal but not enough to reveal much about him. A neatly trimmed goatee graced his chin and his upper lip. A long ponytail made of cornrow braids hung down his back. He seemed on edge, or maybe it was just an act to throw me off.

Which he did when he raised another five thousand. That was steep, and the other two guys folded. Either the guy had something powerful, or he was bluffing his ass off and had nothing. Since I had the queen of hearts, I knew he couldn’t have a royal flush. But that didn’t rule out a straight or four of a kind. The bald-headed guy next to him folded, as did the next two. Now it was up to me, and six thousand was just about all I had left, so I shoved the entire stack I had into the middle of the table.

“I’m all in,” I said with feigned confidence.

After all the bets had been matched, the dealer flipped the fourth card.

A fucking nine of spades.

Shit.

I watched out of the corner of my eye as cowboy hat’s mouth curved up on one side, the tip of his fang biting into his lower lip. Could mean he was nervous. Or cocky. Either way, my hand was dead unless a ten or another heart showed up.

My heart skipped a beat when the fifth card was flipped over. There it was, sparkling as if someone had lit it on fire. I managed to keep my composure as I chilled, though I could have sworn I heard fireworks go off outside.

The beautiful ten of hearts.

Stetson vamp chuckled and said, “Too bad. You played a nice hand.” Then he laid down his cards. A pair of nines, giving him four of a fucking kind, which would beat most hands. When he started to grab at the pile of chips, I cleared my throat.

“Hold on there, space cowboy,” I heard myself say, not sure if the cockiness in my voice would help or hinder, but that pile of chips in the center of the table belonged to me, and there was no fucking way I was letting this douche have them. I had a fucking straight flush, queen high. Beat that you fucking cocksucker. I wanted to gloat but managed to keep my cool and simply turned the two cards in my hand over and placed them face up on the table.

His face paled, if that were possible. His dark-stubbled jaw flexed. His eyes narrowed to slits. His left ear twitched, and he placed both his palms on the table as he stood, glaring at me. Everyone sitting around the table stiffened. The chips lay in a heap in the middle. He kept his large ebony eyes on mine, never faltering. I allowed myself to stare right back, not moving a centimeter. I was good at stare-out games. I’d had a cat, many in fact, and we constantly played this game. Stetson hat was no different in my mind. Though I was positive he thought differently. This guy was too fucking arrogant for my taste. I’d wondered from the moment I sat down if he was going to be trouble.

“Jace, you ready?” he barked.

The guy at the end of the table—Jace, I assumed—nodded. “Yep, I’m all tapped out. Ladies.”

Stetson hat shrugged into a light brown wool coat, generously embellished with dark brown fur at the lapel, all the while keeping his eyes glued to me. “Be sure to join us again. I look forward to the opportunity to win that back.” His eyes briefly averted to the large pile of chips in the middle of the table before returning to mine, and then he touched the rim of his hat and nodded like he was fucking Clint Eastwood. “Gentlemen.” He kept his lips tight as he turned and walked out. Stopping by another vampire on his way, he looked down at him, made some sort of gesture with his hand, and left the room. Jace, and two other large vampires went with him.

Gage cleared his throat. “Fuck, man. That was intense.” The three dudes left at the table all sighed heavily.

The vampire that Stetson hat had gestured to stood up. “Roach would like you to join him at his employer’s mansion.” Roach? What the fuck kind of person names their kid Roach? I almost laughed. The poor guy. No wonder he was so intense. “It is open to you any Friday evening. That is the night they

entertain small groups. Midnight. Here’s the address.” He slipped me a card. I glanced down at the etching on the flat piece of metal.

It read:

Sweet’s Delicacies

Whatever your pleasure, we’ve got it.

Sweet Towers, Sky Deck.

When the vampire had left, Gage grabbed the card from me. “Shit. Looks like he wants a rematch.”

“Well, he isn’t getting one,” I retorted and threw the fancy card down on the table. This was over right now. I didn’t want any part of whatever the fuck that guy was dealing.

“I wouldn’t be so quick to pass on that invite if I were you, Elvis,” Lincoln, the vampire who’d hosted the night’s game, said. “That vampire works for Sweet, one of this city’s most dominant and influential business owners. He has the support of the local labor board, as well as several other highfalutin bigwigs in the city. It’s quite the honor to be invited, even if it was by his right-hand man. Sweet doesn’t give out invitations to his private parties very often. And his parties don’t have anything to do with card games, if you get my drift. Roach must have liked you.” He winked.

I raised my eyebrows up at Lincoln in question.

“You know. Sex, drugs. Those kinds of parties. Group or single, whatever you desire, so I’ve heard.”

Whatever kind of parties, I wasn’t into group sex or drugs. I had a woman, or at least a woman I wanted, as the vision of Lily’s striking brown eyes set against her smooth, deep black hair floated through my mind. I got to my feet and shrugged into my coat. “Come on, Gage, let’s split.”

“How?” She swipes at a few stray tears. “How do you . . . not let it break you?”
“You look it straight in the black, evil eyes and tell it you won’t be broken so easily. And you get up and keep moving. It’s what I’ve done my whole life, with everything. Whatever it is, you let it make you stronger, okay? Because the alternative road is an even darker one, I promise.”

Twenty-year-old orphan, Grace Vincent, is damaged beyond repair. She’s had a shit life, and with the state of the world, things aren’t getting any better. With crime on the constant rise, and all licensed civilians age sixteen and up armed, it’s no wonder she has a pet name for her 9 mm, Suki.

While attending the slummiest community college in Selam, Texas, Grace still lives at home with her adoptive parents and their “miracle” baby, but only for a few more months until she graduates and they buy her a new car. She smokes and drinks a little too much, loses herself in her music, and to keep things interesting, she’s falling hard for her cute and sexy best friend, Eve. (Who knew she liked girls?)

But when the government imposes Martial Law, requiring civilians aged twenty-one and up to be vaccinated in an effort to eradicate violence, and things don’t go as planned, Grace is left to navigate a frenzied world while wrangling difficult realizations and regrets. With nothing else to lose, a decision must be made—fight and live, or surrender and die.

When Grace has lost all hope, two chance encounters prove there are secrets in Selam, Texas, lies about how the end happened, and hope for her yet, despite the insanity in her screwed-up mind. The world may have ended, but Grace’s new life has just begun.
“You can’t break someone who’s already broken. This, I know to be true.”

*Content Advisory/Trigger Warning/Notes*
Dysphoria and Grace/The Night Blind Saga is a dark apocalyptic romance series with some very steamy, sometimes rather dark F/F scenes, M/F scenes, and other mixes (later books in series). In these books you will find a buffet of language, gore, drug use, violence, assault/abuse, and a bunch of other stuff that could scar you for life. If you’re not willing to take that risk, please read ‘safer’ books. If you don’t ingest your literature occasionally (or often) on the edge, gritty, in the dark, and/or possibly in a random stairwell, this series may not be right for you.
*Recommended for readers 18+
*Not recommended for those with PTSD (though the main character herself suffers from PTSD, so… your call)
*Guaranteed HEA, no cliffhanger. 😉

Goodreads

Oh the moon and stars! What an epic journey! This is definitely not what I expected. Be ready to be wrecked, and I mean this in the best possible way. This is a twisted ride into a new age zombie apocalypse. Grace is our main character and boy, has she had a past. This makes her extremely likeable and relatable. The setting is intense from jump. There are drugs, partying, witchcraft, and zombies…I mean, what more could you ask for? But lets be real for a moment. Grace has experienced hell growing up. She has come to terms and feels she is stronger for it. Her best friend is put into a similar situation. Grace is there for her but then all hell breaks loose. Then things get real. They are fighting for their lives, her little brothers life, and a new found friend, Gideon. And nothing slows down. The story is extremely action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I can’t really say anything else about the actual story but I literally contacted this author halfway through the book to talk about what happened. I was a mess reading this….but it was totally, absolutely worth it. Don’t let this discourage you. Once I hit this bump in the road the story just got better and better. I felt like I was right there and her shoes. This is an epic page turner and has made it to the top of my favorite reads. I. Can. Not. Wait. for the sequel. Bring it on! I am so ready!

Goodreads

Holy shifters and the b@d@ss women they attract! Shayne is a girl that is just floating through life. She doesn’t have any close friends, no family, and hates her job. One night her path crosses with Ian and Riley. The brothers are shifters!!! All of a sudden Shayne is thrown into a world that she doesn’t understand. The boys are used to being in a place of power and are not used to here standing up for herself and her mouth. It is very amusing and will put a smile on your face during their banter. Absolutely hilarious. They find themselves in some very tricky situations, not all of are safe. They find out more about their uncle who is the current king by default. They decide to go back to their lands and place Ian as the rightful heir to the throne. The story is very hard to put down. There is always something crazy going on. With all the action and the banter the story will keep you hooked! This is my first book this author and sure not to be the last. I have no idea where Mary Martel has been hiding, but I found you now! I am looking forward to the sequel!
