#NewRelease #Contemporary #Review Inked Expressions (Montgomery Ink 7) by Carrie Ann Ryan

The Montgomery Ink Series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues with the brother who keeps his secret and the one woman he shouldn’t want.

Everly Law married the love of her life and on the eve of giving birth to their twins, lost him in a tragic accident. Now she’s a single mother working overtime at her bookstore trying to make sure her boys have the life they deserve. Her life is busy enough without her adding dating a Montgomery. As past secrets come to light, she’ll need Storm more than ever—even if she doesn’t realize it.

Storm Montgomery has spent his life atoning for sins that only few know he’s committed. When he lost his best friend, he promised his widow that he’d always be there for her—even when she wanted nothing to do with him. But when a single touch ignites passions they’ve both buried deep inside, he’ll have to remember exactly who is in his arms and that taking chances might be far more dangerous than they bargained for.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

Another brooding Montgomery? Yes please!!!!!
Storm Montgomery is one of the Montgomery twins and co-owner of the Montgomery Inc construction company that his father started. The man has a big secret and has been carrying around so long that I think its starting to get to him.
Everly Law is the widow of Storm’s best friend. The three of them were all friends in college and remained close afterwards. When Jonathan died Ev was pregnant with twins and went into labor when she was told about his death. For the past three years, she has been a single mom and business owner. She doesn’t like to need help from anyone, but especially Storm who is boys godfather.
Something hasn’t been quite right between the two for a while and neither knows why.
First off Ev is a strong as h*** woman, any single mom is. You can see in the way that Ryan writes, that her boys are her life.
Storm loves those little boys like they are his own and will do anything for them and Ev. The two do not see the attraction that they have for each other, it’s almost funny.
Second, secrets can’t stay hidden forever whether you spill it yourself or someone from the past does it, they are going to come out.
Storm secret isn’t as bad as he thinks it is, but it does lead him in finding a secret that isn’t is own, one that could kill Everly.
I love watching two people come together and these two are no exception. It takes them a while to figure out that they are better together, stronger together, but they do. The Montgomery family is known for being bigger than life and pulling people into it and that is what they did to Everly and her boys before her and Storm got together. I will be sad when these series comes to a end, I’m really going to miss this family that you can help but fall in love with. However, I’m super happy that we will be getting a spin off with another branch of the Montgomery family and Ryan did a great job of introducing some of the new players with a family cookout.
Storm and Everly, finding love after years of friendship is a beautiful thing. Storm finally letting go of his secret and finding some closure is too. The final Montgomery, well Denver Montgomery, is going to be a doozy and I can’t wait for Storm’s twin to get his!!!!

#Review – House of Wolves: (A Paranormal Urban Fantasy) (The Vampire Project Book 1) by Jonathan Yanez

35111519

History was wrong: werewolves and vampires were made, not born. Buckle up, Buttercup, this is going to get bloody.

Despite her youth, Captain Charlotte Sloan has risen rapidly through the ranks of the queen’s army due to one simple truth; she doesn’t take lip from anyone.

But she’s about to come up against something she can’t beat alone. Gruesome murders have been reported in a far off town. A beast of unknown origin is on the loose and the body count is rising.

If she hopes to survive, Sloan will have to play nice with an assassin well versed in drinking and the best two magicians money can’t buy. When the dust settles, one will die, one will find love, and another will be changed forever.

Goodreads

An intriguing paranormal, steampunk, supernatural story! I had to read this as soon as I read the first line of the synopsis.

House of Wolves is a quick and fun read with plenty of surprising twists that pop out of nowhere. The queen of New Hope dispatches Sloan (the captain of her personal guard) Aereth (former inspector and assassin) and Marcus and Jack (father and son sorcerers) to help the outlying city of Burrow Den. Burrow Den has had multiple attacks by an unknown animal/monster. The queen is trying to build good relationships with the outlying cities and has agreed to help. She sends the four out on this quest . Little did they know, there is so much more going on. They are almost assassinated, they crash their transportation, and find all kinds of quirks and craziness along the way and when they arrive at Burrow Den. Now they need to find the culprit. Animal or human? Who and what is going on?

The world building was interesting to follow. The way it is described leaves a little to the imagination but this is really great because in my mind I had several different ways it could all be set up. When I read the synopsis I thought I would be following Sloan, and only Sloan. It is a little misleading. We follow the entire group and the story is told from all of their points of view. I feel like this book is a cross between Steampunk and Supernatural. Not at all like the technology that we have but they have magic powered tech too. This was a fun book to read. Truly unique. And the investigating that the group do will keep you right in the middle of the story. This is the first book that I have read by Jonathan Yanez and won’t be the last. I am looking forward to the next!

A price.

Don’t sit on your gold-plated high horse and say you don’t because you do. Everyone does. Each of us has something we covet enough that we’d sell ourselves to have it.

What’s my tipping point, you ask? Apparently a cool quarter mil will do the trick.

What does one do for 250 large, you wonder? Anything the infamous, gorgeous playboy of Seattle wants. For the next four months I’ll be Shaw Mercer’s arm candy, his beck and call girl, his faux girlfriend. I’ll be his to command, mold, push and pull in any direction he sees fit.

I’ll fight falling into bed with him. I’ll fight falling in love with him even harder. I’ll fail at both. And when my past and present collide in the most unexpected of ways, I’ll learn that while one man’s love for me has never died, the only man’s love I really want will never be mine.

BLURB

It began as a ruse.

Take a girlfriend. Divert the press from the fucked up mess that’s my family until my father is re-elected. Stage a public breakup. Move on.

Only that brilliant plan went straight south the moment I set eyes on Willow Blackwell.

I found her.

My center. My future. A soulmate with the will of a mule and the mouth of a harpy.

I now want things I never wanted before. Permanent kinds of things.

Only Fate—and her ex—have other plans for us.

In some sort of cosmic impossibility, our lives unknowingly intersected years before when tragedy befell both our families. Once the devastating truth is finally revealed, the future I’d found in her will come crashing down around us and for the first time in my life I’m completely helpless.

I may very well lose the only woman I’ve ever loved to a past neither of us saw coming.

*warning: 18+ only. Contains foul language, explicit sex and a hot alpha (or two, or three). NOTE: This is NOT a standalone. It’s the conclusion to LOST IN BETWEEN, which MUST be read first.

#Review #WOTR – Call of the Raven (The Union) by Shawn Reilly

17661306

Love is something everyone longs for at the deepest level—but for some, love is a curse. This is most certainly true for Asher Lake, the Keeper of an unknown group of people called ani-shifts. Ani-shifts, those with the ability to shift into animal forms, compose a secretive body of individuals known simply as the Union.
A wolf in shifter form, Asher lives with a curse placed upon him and his predecessors by the elusive Raven—a dark entity whose identity remains a mystery. According to the ancient archives, the Raven’s curse is conditional and set in motion by one fatal decision: if a Keeper ever allows himself to fall in love, he will die.
Choosing to live in isolation within the walls of Lake Manor, a private estate concealed by the dense woods of Brokenridge, Asher has vowed never to love or to fall in love with anyone believing it to be the only way to survive the curse. However, after ten years of neglecting his people and the protégés left in his care, along with the impending threats of an uprising, Asher learns the only way to break the Raven’s curse on future Keepers, thereby preventing them from suffering the same fate, is to accept his.
This becomes Asher’s biggest challenge of all when he encounters Elle Ison, the woman of his dreams. Does Elle hold the key? Can she help Asher change his fate?

Goodreads

Don’t resist. Fate is fate and things are meant to be. Or so they say…..

First, I must say that paranormal is one of my favorite genres. I love shifter books but sometimes things get a little redundant when they are all similar. Call of the Raven is so much more. There is a lot of world building and the author does a fantastic job. And some of the characters, well, they are a little intense but soooo relateable. Definitely not your normal shifter story.

Asher is the Keeper and is destined to die an early death once he falls in love. Grant is his predecessor and tried to set things in motion to break the curse. To try and avoid this fate Asher has closed himself off and vowed not to love or fall in love. With this he has neglected his family and society. 10 long years have passed and secrets are unfolding. Asher and his group of proteges are trying to find Grant’s daughter (that no one knew about) and Asher finds the woman who he has only seen in his dreams.

Things then get real sticky and the angle is not clear on who and what is really happening. The story keeps you guessing, constantly trying to figure it out. You will be as confused as the characters (in the best way possible) as you feel like you are right in the middle of the story. The hierarchy of the shifters and their society is completely different than what I have read in the past. This is truly a great start to what I expect to be a great series. I am looking forward to the 2nd book and more from this author!

When it seemed like I was only an F away from flunking out of the sixth grade, a retired school teacher took me under her wing. After some tutoring and testing, she informed my parents that the reason I was having trouble in school wasn’t because I was dumb but instead dyslexic.
When my stepfather heard this, he decided to take me to a used bookstore with the belief that the best way to improve my reading skills was to read. Some of the books were hard to get through at first, but with his encouragement I refused to give up. We made many trips to that bookstore, and I especially loved the science fiction and fantasy sections.
Then one day, after complaining about the ending of a particular book, he told me that if I didn’t like the books that I had been reading, then to write one myself—so I did. My first attempt resulted in a horribly written western when I was fourteen, staring a cocky gun slinging cowboy by the name Curt Calhoun. Curt along with his seven brothers, who all shared C names in common, may never have seen the pages of a book, but that was the day I started writing, and never stopped.
I have over fifty books on my computer which I’ve written in various genres, all of which are waiting to come to life. Even though my ability to write has improved over the years, I am humble enough to admit that I cannot venture on this journey alone

Review by Becky

I was given the book for an honest review.
I felt sorry for Drakkar from the beginning.  The thought of the abuse and lack of love in the environment he was raised in.  I thoroughly enjoyed Nick and Serenity.  Talk about true friendships.  And Britt rounded out the foursome.  You could tell that deep down Drakkar wasn’t evil like Abs tried to brainwash him to be.  Abs is one of those that you love to hate!  You knew Serenity and Drakkar would be a couple and watching their relationship bloom was heartwarming.  Abs wanted baby Annabell as she would secure her “rightful” position of Queen.  Drakkar made his first attempt to snatch Anna and was able to get into Jared’s home even with the spell.  It was when he failed but told Abs that he got in with the spell, the truth of his parents was tacticallly released by Abs.  And….Giovanna was allowed to discover the truth.  Abs used that and his feelings for Serenity to force him to steal baby Annabell and this time Drakkar could not fail.  He had too much at risk.  Drakkar, Nick, Serenity and Britt all plotted and planned how to pull off baby Anna’s heist.  It worked…..but just a bit different than the foursome had planned.  In the end, Drakkar was reunited with his father and shown what being loved and cared for was really like.  Giovanna was saved and safely hidden because of Drakkar’s request.
Now….Abs was all hacked off and cut off of benefits at The Final Resting Place. Then….here comes a creature from the past, RIM….  And, the hinting of Giovanna’s responsibility in the Jared/Giovanna incident in the very beginning.
I look forward to the next chapter in the storyline.

#Review #Giveaway #NA- Adrift, Kill Devil Hills Novel #4 by Sarah Darlington

Title: Adrift

Author: Sarah Darlington
Release Date: May 30, 2017
Series: Kill Devil Hills #4
Ben Turner is back! After unsuccessfully faking his own death, he’s back home in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. With no plans for college or the future, and hated by the town that once loved him, Ben feels like he’s drowning. Until he meets the girl next door, a runaway like him, and she changes everything.

**New Adult Romance. This novel is the fourth book in the Kill Devil Hills series, however it can be read as a standalone. Recommended for 18+

I received this book from the author for an honest opinion.

GAH!!  FINALLY, BEN!!  I have been dying to know why he did what he did.  I mean who fakes their death and hides from their family.  A family who loved and adored him??  WHO??  The action he takes puts such a strain on his sister that her life is also changed forever.  I mean WOW!!

We know what happened to everyone when Ben “Died” but the why of it was crazy.  Why he hides and now how he is rebuilding his life is great.  He feels cramped and suffocated in the small town he lives.  He can’t wait to get back to California and live a life there where no one knows him or what he was…..the all American perfect son.

Juniper had to run.  She had to escape the hell she is living in.  She can’t believe she has let her life get THAT out of control but now that she is pregnant she can’t and will not let the abuse touch the innocents that grow inside of her.

Ben and Juniper meet and it’s a case of mistaken identity.  Juniper is just hoping to keep hiding until she can figure ut her life.  Ben is drawn to this person who he thinks is an old friend from childhood.  They slowly start to build a friendship that soon turn to much much more.  They both try to deny the attraction but once a “truce” is called they can’t fight it.

The push and pull between the characters is crazy good.  The chemistry is so amazing and I was going CRAZY wanting MORE between them.  It was soooo good to read.  Once their pasts catch up they both have to fight what they are feeling and come clean with the other about what they want/need/desire.

I loved seeing all of the characters from the series and where they ended up in the series.

 Synopsis

Are you a hero yet?
Her words rang in my head.
I wanted to be.
For you, I want to be, I told her in my dream, the dream where she kissed me again.

A hero-worthy kiss.

Stay safe, she had said. Come back to me.
My lips tingled.
The brush of hers over mine a memory held in the blackest of night,
the hottest of desert days,
and the cold-evil hell of war against hidden enemies.

I wanted another chance to taste those lips,
melt them against mine,
and mold her body to me.
I wanted to live.
For Katie.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

*Sigh* Oh the feels…the giant, huge, extra fluffy feels of this book.  I will say one of my favorite things about this author is her ability to make you FEEL everything.

Now this book is about characters from her Sensation Collections but you don’t need to read it to understand the story at all….and TBH I hope we will get more from these characters and the side characters because come one Grant and Penelope need stories!!

Katie, we met and fell in love with her in parents HEA story.  She is the little girl who no one thought would speak until Emily got it out of her.  Well Katie is all grown up and has loved a town bad boy all her life.  A few kisses from their youth had has a major impact on both her and Levi.

Levi has a terrible life in the small town that he and Katie grew up in so as soon as he could…boom he was gone but he never forgot the dreamy younger girl who had all this faith in HIM when no one else did.

When the two meet by chance in college, they are both stunned and wondering if the other remembers them but are both to scared to say…hey is that YOU?

They have a lot to over-come with his abandonment issues, being a single father, the return of baby momma and the occasional need to over drink alcohol to dull the ache of war.    But the one thing I love abut Katie is the strength she draws from blood family or hand-picked “family”.  These two climb many a mountain and deal with many issues but find that love can prevail if you just stand strong.

#Review #Dragons #TwinsieForTheDayBecky – Beyond Time (Dark Order of the Dragon #2) by Sandra Bischoff

Beyond Time (The Dark Order of the Dragon Series #2)

Christian Lancelot Du Lac was never one to take a situation seriously. Growing up he had always been the comedic relief to Jared Bonatelli’s brooding nature. Drawn to the forest surrounding Camelot, Lady Elizabeth Payne searches for something that seems just out of her reach. Tormented by a pair glowing eyes in the mist she steals away in the middle of the night to find their owner. Thieves, a wolf and the most infuriating savior she has ever met turn her simple world upside down. But it’s the attraction she feels to the newcomer that truly takes her by surprise. Learning that he is Christian Du Lac, the long lost son of the First Knight himself peaks her curiosity even more.

Now on the cusp of meeting her betrothed for the first time, Elizabeth’s heart has been claimed by another. But even a betrothal written in blood is no match for fate.

Review by Becky

I was given a copy of the book for an honest review.
I love Lance!  His mouth in motion before his brain just makes me laugh.  I knew something was up when he repeatedly was drawn to his and Beth’s spot.  Sending him to Camelot was so perfect.  I didn’t want to put my kindle down. Historicals are one of my favs.  As the story is told, I thought no wonder many times.  Knowing now why Lance’s mother gave up her powers. Wow.  And RIM….he is horrific and no different than Abs.  At least Jared was able to right the worst of Rim’s wrong doing.  Evil man!  The lengths that Merlin and his crew went to for Lance and Beth.  I didn’t see that one coming!  SO glad!
Drakkar……hmmmmm. Now that we have returned to the present day…I wonder when Abs will return as a threat. I know it’s coming or will Drakkar be her downfall?

Title: The Demon Who Loved Me
Series: Big Bad Bite Series #4
Author: Jessie Lane
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release: May 28, 2017

He’s a gambling man…

One brunette bombshell with a devious mind and a potty mouth has thrust Kent smack dab in the middle of where he never wanted to be—his family. He’s spent most of his life avoiding his familial responsibilities, especially the one that required him to join the Ninth Circle Council—the demon society’s equivalent of judge, jury, and executioner. Then one lost bet with a little Amazon flips his entire life upside down. With worries about retaliation from the remnants of a rogue pack of wolves in Germany, he doesn’t have time to deal with his family, or his obsession with Chloe Demos.

And she’s the biggest risk he’ll ever take…

After her mother’s death, Chloe’s world crashes down around her. A secret Amazonian heritage. Aunts and a long lost brother she never knew about. Supernatural beings. With all of the sudden changes, she’s decided it’s time to step out from behind her façade of an air-headed, materialistic bimbo and show her sisters she truly does love them—she only hates their wardrobes. What better way to show she cares about her family than to help prove someone close to one of them is innocent of the bogus murder charges from some ridiculous council? Chloe has no scruples about calling in the marker the demon Kent owes her in order to do just that. It’s only too bad she’s underestimated Kent’s intelligence, and his playboy charm.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I have wanted to know Kent’s back story for a while.  The way he looked after his partner and the dedication to his job I knew there was good in the Demon.

Kent was the playboy that never hung around long enough to fall for a woman. He was also dodging his duty as a Demon. That is until a certain Amazon walked in taught him a lesson and could turn the world as he knew it upside down.

Chloe was the fashion diva and portrayed the roll of the airhead. But when secrets come out about her family and one is in trouble she knows it’s time to let the real Chloe out. She uses her whit to get Kent to help her not realizing what it will cost Kent in the end.

The chemistry between Kent and Chloe is great with Chloe pushing to protect her heart and Kent pulling trying to show Chloe his isn’t what she and everyone else thinks they know. Can I say I can relate to Chloe’s sister Elena I find myself acting similar to her when spiders come around only I which I had a flamethrower lol.  I did have tears when Chloe, Elena and Gage went to see the psychic and learned what was coming their way. I loved how Jessie incorporated all the past characters of the Big Bad Bite Series.
