#NewRelease #PartOfASeries – What You See (Sons of the Survivalist Book 3) by Cherise Sinclair

What You See (Sons of the Survivalist, #3)

She will risk everything to rescue her friend.

Frankie’s BFF and four-year-old son are trapped inside a fanatical militia’s compound. In Alaska, no less. Wilderness rescues are so not in the New Yorker’s skill set. But she’ll figure it out. She must.

Bull’s new roadhouse server is a mass of contradictions.

The city girl’s reasons for being in Alaska don’t add up. Bull’s been burned by liars before. So, why is he falling for this crap again? Maybe it’s her big brown eyes, exuberant personality—or her generous, compassionate heart. Whatever the reason is, he cares. If she’s in trouble, he’ll do his damnedest to get her out.

The huge Alaskan is terrifyingly compelling–and heartwarmingly concerned for her.

But Frankie refuses to involve Bull in the deadly mess. Her plan to rescue her bestie will work without anyone getting hurt. As she tries her best not to fall in love, she doggedly acquires each skill she’ll need.

Getting shot, though…that hadn’t been on her to-do list.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Oh Bull!!  I tell ya this guy had my heart from the first chapter!!!  Mako raised those boys with tough love but also the kindness that they each needed.  These boys would make their dad proud.

Bull is running his Roadhouse and hires a new waitress who happens to be here on a mission to save her best friend and child.  Frankie is no doubt not a fan of Bull initially.  She overhears something and is mistaken by it.  She soon learns Bull is not what she seems and is having a hard time staying true to her path of rescue for her friend.

Bull is intrigued by Frankie and knows she is someone he needs to tread lightly around.  She isn’t his ex but she needs some TLC.  The couple find a dynamic that is perfect and what the other is looking for.  Can I just say I like Cherise’s ability to write these amazing characters?  The men you obviously want for your own but the women you can relate to on so many levels.

Seeing Gabe and Caz still going strong with their ladies is always a treat.  Adding another woman to the family mix is amazing but friends……Hawk.  Yo!! He needs some TLC in the biggest way possibly.  He is the book I am counting the days for.  He is the one who captured my heart immediately out of the group.

A New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she’s renowned for writing heart-wrenching romances with laugh-out-loud dialogue, alpha males, and absolutely sizzling sex.

I met my dearheart when vacationing in the Caribbean. Now I won’t say it was love at first sight. Actually since he stood over me, enjoying the view down my swimsuit top, I might have been a tad peeved—as well as attracted. But although we were together less than two days and lived on opposite sides of the country, love can’t be corralled by time or space.

We’ve now been married for many, many years. (And he still looks down my swimsuit tops.)

Nowadays, I live in the west with this obnoxious, beloved husband and a seventy-pound lap-puppy. I’m a gardener, and I love nurturing small plants until they’re big and healthy and productive…and ripping defenseless weeds out by the roots when I’m angry. I enjoy thunderstorms, collecting eggs from the chickens, and visiting the local brewery for the darkest, maltiest beer on tap. My favorite way to spend an evening is curled up on a couch next to the master of my heart, watching the fire, reading, and…well…if you’re reading my books, you obviously know what else happens in front of fires.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

So this book is the first time I am left feeling happy and sad.  Happy because Charger finally opened his eyes and sad because the book isn’t given a full HEA.  We will get it, but it will be in Book 17 AKA Raven’s book which is after Lana, The Mate’s book 16.5.

Now lemme tell ya, this book is packed full of stuff.  I mean we meet a whole new cast of characters who are part of the Dark Guardians…sniff…Jake…sniff.  We meet some not so great new characters too…..yeah I’m look at YOU SONYA!!!  (High 5’s Raven)  But friends can we talk about all the yummy and what it can mean for the future books because …yeah again don’t wanna spoil anything.  But uhm Creed, yes please and I wanna be besties with Chantel!!!

I don’t want to say a lot because this ride is an amazing one.  We see Daniel have a vision, but something is off with it.  We see Charger realize Raven is the woman for him along with getting his backstory as to why he disrespected her all those years ago.  We see Raven standing up for herself and proving to EVERYONE she is a badass no matter what gender she is.  We see Jared embracing Raven as a fellow Warrior but still protecting her like the dad he is. Oh Jared!!!

I am really excited about this huge series twist this book brought about.  We had twist when we met the witches, and this book is another big plot twist for the Warriors.  Lots of changes will be happening and new cast of crazy characters will be joining.  I, for one, am here for it!!!  This series NEVER gets dull because Teresa has the ability to add new and vital changes to the world to keep it fresh and exciting for us the readers.

#WOTR21 #AuthorSpotlight #6YearFamily – A.D. Ellis

A.D. Ellis

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi! I’m A.D. Ellis. I’m a mom to a 13 year old and a 15 year old. I’ve been teaching for 22 years and I’m in my second year as an instructional coach. My whole career has been spent in the inner city of Indianapolis and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I published my first book in 2014 and never once looked back; I absolutely love the book community and writing stories.
I’m a huge fan of Schitt’s Creek, Kingdom, Pose, The Handmaid’s Tale, Eastsiders, Sense 8, Sex Education, the new Tales of the City, and pretty much any good romance or romantic comedy.
I taught myself to crochet and love to do it, but I don’t have as much time for it as I would like lately. I’ve adjusted to a new schedule of going to be around 8:30pm so I can get up at 3:45am to get ready for work and have some writing time. That leaves my afternoons and evenings free for family, dinner, catching up on shows, reading, and relaxing before bed.
I love hard cider, wine with friends, and I’m pretty much addicted to tea. Pizza, chocolate, and sushi are amazing. I rarely turn down a good pork taco, noodles, or bread. Chocolate covered peanuts are from Heaven.
I’ve published over 30 books and I have several more in the works. My early titles are small town male/female romance, but I switched to male/male romance back in 14/15 and it’s totally where my heart is now.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Both? The first book is hard because you’re just getting to know the characters. The next books are hard because you have to remain consistent with things that happened in the first book. Were those eyes blue? What was that neighbor’s name? They definitely both have their challenges.

What comes first? The plot or characters

I’m kinda 50/50 on this one. Sometimes I’ll get hit with characters and build a plot around them. Sometimes I’ll get hit with a plot and fill it in with characters.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I’ve met so many great ones! I think I’d likely go way back to authors of my childhood and want to meet Beverly Cleary, Ann M. Martin, Roald Dahl, or Barbara Park.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

I’d just ask them to tell me what they do with their ideas, how does a book come together for them, and what book they loved writing the most.

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

Oh Lord! ALL OF THEM!! Sometimes a title will come to me right away, sometimes I end up at THE END with no title at all. If I can figure out a series name, the individual titles usually come easier. The blurb isn’t fun, but I think I’m getting a little better at it. I (as a reader) hate long blurbs and I’ll pass on a book immediately if the blurb drags on and on, so I’ve adapted to the current way of blurb writing (in my genre at least) and I keep them short and sweet with a focus on the tropes.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

There are so many! I love all of the fun signings, meeting readers, and hearing that people love my stories. The best part of being an author is finding friends I never would have had in my life if it wasn’t for my books. That part makes all the hard parts worthwhile.

What is your definition of success?

I think there are different levels. My first success as an author came when I wrote THE END on my first book. Another success was when I hit publish on that book. Holding my physical book in my hand is a success. Each title published after that is a success. Growing as a writer is a success. Finding a circle of friends who gets me and supports me is a success. Having readers contact me to say my books touched them in some way is a success.
Yes, having money to continue publishing is a success and I do need to keep making sales in order to keep writing and publishing, but I don’t look at money as the biggest marker of success. At least not for me.
(Maybe if I was making millions I’d feel differently- hahahaha!)

The Games We Play by Mary Martel

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

This short story is everything Mary Martel does and does well.  She introduces us to an alpha anti-hero that we will fall in love with and beg for more…hint hint…girl I want more Tobias!

This book is the bad boy with a bad rep who has been secretly in love with the purest, sweetest head cheerleader Shae whose dad happens to be an ambitious senator.

A night where Shae decides to cut loose and go to a party after she sees HIM looking at HER. The two confront each other and finally lay their cards on the table.  Seriously such a great short read that will leave you satisfied and feeling like you read a modern take on “The Breakfast Club”.

Games We Play by Mary Martel

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I loved this quick read. I have to say I want more of Tobias. He is so yummy. Shay was amazing herself.

Shay was the good girl and the cheerleader. You know the girl that was supposed to be with the football player.  Nope not Shay she was drawn to Tobias the typical bad boy. Really she was boarder line stalker, LOL. Seriously Shay knew Tobias didn’t even know who she was. In reality Tobias did notice her and in a big way.

Loved that Shay did let other peoples view distract her from what she wanted. This was a great good girl/bad boy romance. So many great moments between Shay and Tobias. Only question is can their fling last more than just in private between the two of them. This book was short and good. Did I mention I really want more of that bad boy Tobias because really I do need more of him and this story.

A few of my favorites:

I wanted naughty and dangerous and…a bad boy.
I wanted Tobias Knotts

I had her full attention like I never had before.
She saw me.
Me.

Mary Martel was born in West Michigan and spent the majority of her life there. She currently resides in North Dakota with her husband, and her two beautiful daughters. She’s an avid reader, and when not writing she can be found with her nose stuck in a book.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Even though later books in a series have more logistical challenges because you are juggling multiple books at various stages of the publication process, starting a new series is harder because you are getting to know the characters, establishing the world, defining relationships, etc. It takes time and drains a lot of creativity.

What comes first? The plot or characters

Almost always the characters.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I have been so lucky to meet several of my most favorite authors, including Karen Marie Moning Diana Galbadon, and Laura Kinsale.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

1. What are your tricks for making the words flow when “writer’s block” hits?
2. Which of your books would you choose to be made into a movie?
3. If you could write outside your published genres, what would you try?

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

Crafting the blurb! So tricky to boil it down to the right bits and tie it up in a neat package.

#WOTR21 #Christmas #ShortStory #Newsletter #Freebie – Coldcocked by Saint Nick by Melonie Johnson

Coldcocked by Saint Nick

She never saw it coming…
Classic holiday story of boy meets girl,
boy knocks girl out with his giant candy-cane,
boy falls for girl and they live happily ever after.
Well, not exactly. But it’s a start.

As the pop culture liaison for Chicago’s biggest morning talk show, Tiffany Hunt spends her December covering celebrations, performances, and charity functions. Which is how she winds up onstage as a volunteer host of the annual Jingle Ball, a fundraiser supporting the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation. Her packed schedule of holiday events might seem glamorous, but the stressful days often leave Tiffany with a headache—sometimes literally—like when one of the performers accidentally beans her in the back of the skull with a giant plastic candy cane.
The wielder of this oversized peppermint prop turned weapon of destruction is Nick Santos, an occupational therapist who moonlights as a caroling crooner in an a cappella group. When Nick insists on keeping Tiffany company for the evening to make sure she’s feeling all right after bonking her on the head, she’s unable to resist. How can she refuse a doctor’s orders? Besides, she is feeling a little woozy, especially when said hot doctor lays his hands on her…
Oh, she’s going to be on the naughty list for sure this year.

I received this book from the author off her newsletter sign up.

This was a super cute and super sweet short story.  It’s a perfect hour read when you are sitting by the fire and getting excited for the holidays!

This story is about a Christmas bu-hum bug named Tiffany. She is kinda down on the holiday. She doesn’t really enjoy the season and the magic around it.  While not paying attention to the band she is getting ready to talk about after they finish singing,  she gets knocked in the head by Nick…well Dr. Nick.

The story is about how a quick insta-chemistry with the Doctor, who also loves to sing acappella, turns the holiday into the romantic time it surely should be.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I was really looking forward to this book but kinda feel it was just as much Daniel’s book as it was Pam’s book.  This book was Pam dealing with her past that also affected her son Daniel and mate Duncan.  We find out even more about Kenny, what he did we didn’t know about, and who he was in business with we didn’t previously know.  Like dude was so bad!!

We also see Duncan trying too be a badass warrior but also dealing with his son and mate’s need to know and not know what is happening in the world.  We see Daniel coming to terms with what makes him special plus what may be his downfall.  We see Pam struggling as a mom, wife, social service employee and so much more.  She wants her family to be safe and her friends to be ok, but she is also losing control of everything around her.

The book was good as it moved us forward in the world.  We see Duncan and Pam reaffirming their love and commitment to each other, but we also see the struggles that being parents have on them.

I loved getting to know grown up Daniel.  I can’t wait for his real book even though I am sure it’s a ways off since he is not ready for “grown up stuff” yet.

I loved the movement in the story line of Charger and Raven.  I am eagerly awaiting that book in my greedy hands!!

#WOTR21 #Novella – Never Gone by JM Walker

Never Gone (A Novella)

Atlas Horne was my weakness.
No matter how much time had passed since I last saw him, the feelings I had, never went away.
He left when we were kids and took my heart with him, leaving a gaping hole behind.
Seven years.
That was how long it took for him to man up and come home to me.
But little did he know, I wasn’t giving in that easily.

WARNING: This is a quick second chance romance that’s hot, dirty and oh so passionate. No characters were harmed in the making of this story, but I can’t say the same for their clothing.

Oh snap Atlas and Marley are a super sexy 2nd chance romance.  The story is all about losing the young love you always planned to be with forever.  When life throws you back in their path do you finally take that chance like Marley to “say goodbye” or do you plan on making them yours again but forever like Atlas does??

Considering this is a short story there are some twists and a turn even to make you want punch the main characters.  But of course, the twists and turns help our main characters realize they need each other all the more.

Inferno (Feverish #3)

His past was supposed to stay in the past.

Dane, Last Five Seconds’ drummer, is the “quiet” one. It’s not just because his bandmates are boisterous and love sucking up the limelight.

It’s part of who he is, where he comes from. But he’s determined to break free from the chains of his past.

When it catches up to him, his comfortable world shatters, leaving him with an injured back and an inability to perform his work onstage. To get back on the road as soon as possible, he undergoes physical therapy to aid with his recovery.

Enter Charlie. As his physical therapist, she’s a hell of a caregiver, but she’s also feisty. Sometimes she’s abrupt. And snappy. And downright rude. And, like Dane, she’s got a few hidden scars.

But Dane sees something inside her, something that speaks to him. Although Charlie holds him at arm’s length, even after he’s no longer her patient, Dane is finally able to penetrate her armor. While his scars have never fully healed, hers go even deeper.

As they work through their pasts together, Dane is convinced it will make them stronger, but can they ever move beyond their insecurities and hang ups enough to trust each other…or are they destined to be alone?

Review by Twinsie Angie

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

STAHP!!!  They are back!!  The LFS guys are back!!!! I am so excited.  Its been FOREVAH since we got to see the guys…..Clay and Emily are good.  Sam and Grace are planning the wedding.  Brian is dealing with his divorce and then there is quiet Dane.  Dane has always been a little on the quiet side and this book we get to know him and why he is so “shy”.

Childhood bullies leave a mark on our sweet Dane.  After reconnecting with one he gets a bit stupid and overly drunk which causes him to hurt his back.  Off to Physical Therapy he goes.  Except falling for his therapist isn’t what he should be doing.

Charlie is a mess.  This girl lives with scars and trauma that no one should be able to recover from and yet here she is rocking her façade of a happy life.  She feels some ways about Dane but pushes and pushes and pushes him away.

When Dane kinda stalkery but not really stalkery but yet stalkery finds her and asks her out they seem to click.  Both, however, have crazy low confidence and read the wrong vibe the other throws out at times which makes things hella mess.  I’m telling ya they are the perfect match for the other but they kinda step on their own toes at times.

Charlie is petrified of love but Dane’s light just crumbles her walls. Dane is so in love with Charlie and yet he reads things she does the wrong way which makes him feel less than.  Gah, these two!!  Seriously they have all the chemistry and all the love but also all the fear when you go all in with someone.

I loved the story and seriously this makes me want to do a reread to remember the awesome story of Clay and Sam but then I gotta go back to Brad/Val/Ethan since that is where we met this ban of awesomeness!!

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I so thrilled to have Last Five Seconds back.  I mean really, I get to see Clay/Jet again *sigh*. Ok I know let’s get back to Dane. Dane is our quite shy drummer.

Dane is dealing with demons from his childhood when he falls off the stage at a concert. He has to have therapy where he meets Charlie. Charlie has no idea who Dane is and Dane is intrigued by her. Once Dane is back on his feet, he seeks out Charlie.  Dane had a bit of stalker in him for this…lol.

Charlie has her own issues she is dealing with.  While Dane is pursuing Charlie, she has to decide if he is worth chipping away at the wall she built to protect herself.

I loved Dane but Charlie took a bit to get used to.  These two had chemistry but man it took a while for them to get it together. I so enjoyed watching Dane and Charlies story evolve.  I also realized how much I missed my man Jet.
