#WOTR21 #AuthorSpotlight – Melanie Jayne/M. Jayne

Melanie Jayne

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m a storyteller.

My grandparents were writers and huge influences in my life. When I spent time with them as a child, instead of playing games or with toys, we made up stories. When I grew older, I told myself stories to help me fall asleep and now, I share them with you.

I live on a grain farm in Indiana with my husband, and our mastiff, Duncan Keith. I am on a life-long quest to find the best mascara for stubby, thin eyelashes. I love to sit on our screened in porch and stare at the fields. I watch trashy TV and those awful “You are the Father” shows.

I’m very lucky to have acquired an awesome team of helpers who keep me on target and somewhat sane. This group is led by my fabulous Manny- David.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

As M. Jayne, I created The Novus Pack Series which is growing into The Novus World -Surprise!

The first book, See Me, took 5 years to write. The following books came faster but they were so much more difficult to create. Because of the series popularity, every word became important, I fretted over plot points. I worry constantly if the readers will love them. I become a basket-case and while writing the first-draft– NOBODY wants to be around me.

What comes first? The plot or characters

Hmmm.

My books usually come to me with Characters and Major Plot Points. It is a terrible cliché, but many have come to me in dreams or as a complete thought. When that doesn’t happen, I will come up with a theme and the names and story just pop into my head.

This happened recently when I dreamed about a Halloween Party where the heroine made an ice cream run and within a few seconds, Ghost, the hero popped into my head and he saves her life. — It happens that fast.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Anne Perry.

At age fifteen she was convicted of killing her friend’s mother in Australia. After she served her time, she eventually moved to Scotland and had a very successful career as a Mystery Writer.

Watch the movie– Heavenly Creatures.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

1.) Does living in Scotland help your writing? I have a dream to spend 3 months touring the land of my ancestors. I believe that I could be mega-creative there.

2.) Are Hester and Monk really happy in their marriage? I always picture that two such prickly characters had a great deal of angry sex.

3.) The characters of Thomas and Charlotte Pitt have had a influence on my writing. Are they based on people that you know? Thomas is detail-oriented commoner police detective and Charlotte is aristocracy although on the poor side. She goes against her family’s wishes and marries Thomas. She is smart and brave and Thomas loves her, and she him.

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

Hardest– Title. It either comes to me immediately or if not– it is a struggle. I find myself panicking if I don’t have on about half way through the first draft.

Blurb Writing– I hire a blurb writer. She does it better than me. #WorkSmarter

Naming a Series– Not that Hard, but my series names aren’t that creative.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

When my first book went “live,” I was working the overnight shift. David was working that night also and we waited for the e-mail from Amazon saying The Party Plan was available to read. Then around 3 a.m., my blog post went live on the USA Today online Romance Blog. — two dreams came true within a few hours and I got to celebrate with my Bestie.

What is your definition of success?

It is made up of many components.

-To wake up every day and want to go into my office and create.
-To see your hard work and struggle come to fruition in the form of a book.
-Making money, selling books. Of course, any money made goes right back into the business, so it isn’t like I’m buying a new car or taking a luxurious trip.
-Hearing from readers. Getting a message about a book is the most amazing feeling. A few of my books have a suicide or self-injury theme and readers have shared personal tales with me. I’m honored that I’ve given them hope.

#WOTR21 #ReleaseDay – Rumor Going ‘Round by Samantha Lind

Rumor Going 'Round (Lyrics and Love, #3)

When rumors start circling,
Do you walk the other way?
Or give them something to talk about?

She was the one I always secretly wanted
But it was never meant to be,
I landed myself in the friend zone.

He was my high-school crush,
Who grew up into the single sexy dad,
Putting his life on the line with every fire he fought.

One spin around the dance floor has our friends talking,
Wondering if we could get any closer.

We blew the rumors off until one day, we really gave them something to talk about.

#WOTR21 #AuthorSpotlight – Ava Cuvay

Ava Cuvay

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Ava Cuvay. Sci-fi Romance author, Star Wars fan, bacon lover, and wine drinker. When not writing (or eating bacon or drinking wine), I substitute teach, help hubby make Disney vacation plans, drive kiddos to/from sports practices and games, and spoil two cats who seem to think I am at their beck and meow (I am). My body resides in Central Indiana, but my brain is off in a galaxy far, far away!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I’m in the middle of my Silver Cyborg Series, so I’d say “the others after” the first are the hardest. Like writing any story, the middle tends to drag/sag, so my over-arching story is struggling a bit right now. But, this is why authors have critique partners, beta readers, and a thousand rounds of edits!

What comes first? The plot or characters

It depends. I have a lot of ideas that begin with characters and now I have to wrap a story around them. But, I also have a lot of story ideas that I have to populate with characters. I also just have generic ideas I have to do both with. For example, my “Blood King” evolved from the question: What if Dracula was just some wannabe poser from an alien race of bloodsuckers…?

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

Blurb writing. How do you cut to the heart of your story, introduce your characters, make it all SOOOOO fascinating that the reader HAS TO buy it right now… all in about 250 words? Ack! The pressure!

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Every time a reader enjoys my stories. It’s like having a stranger compliment me on my children… it confirms that I’m sending quality products out into the world, and that I’m not totally delusional about it 😉

What is your definition of success?

Every book I sell is a success. Every fan I lure, er, gain is a success. Every tick closer to #1 ranking is a success. I count my small blessings because I know they’ll add up to big things eventually, and I’m in this for the long haul (got too many story ideas to quit anytime soon!).

#WOTR21 #AuthorSpotlight – Derek Masters

Derek Masters

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Derek Masters and I write romance with a raging heart on! I’m a huge sports fanatic, cheering on my St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Cardinals, and Kansas City Chiefs. I’m a former professional wrestler and currently work as a correctional officer in a maximum security prison.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Definitely the follow up books. My mind is constantly thinking of new ideas and it can be a struggle writing a series when you have an unrelated idea you’re dying to write. This is the reason the majority of my titles are stand-alones.

What comes first? The plot or characters

They both are born at the same time, but the plot changes through the characters. My characters are constantly guiding me into directions that are far from what the plot says.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Dean Koontz

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

The blurb is the bane of my existence

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Having readers tell me they could relate to Share Me. It was my first novel and I tried to write it in a way that told the story as close to real life as possible. Hearing so many people tell me they could relate to it made it all worth it.

What is your definition of success?

To me, success is completing a book. Even if nobody ever buys it, finishing a manuscript is a huge accomplishment. With that said, I consider the book an even bigger success when readers love it!

#WOTR21 #AuthorSpotlight – Mellanie Szereto

Mellanie Szereto

Mellanie Szereto

When her fingers aren’t attached to her keyboard, Mellanie Szereto enjoys hiking, Pilates, cooking, gardening, and researching for her stories. Many times, the research partners with her other hobbies, taking her from the Hocking Hills region in Ohio to the Colorado Rockies and the Adirondacks of New York. Sometimes, the trip is no farther than her garden for ingredients and her kitchen to test recipes for her latest steamy tale. Mellanie makes her home in rural Indiana with her husband of thirty-four years and their son.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The second to last book in the series is usually the hardest for me to finish. The first book in the series is always easiest because…new series!

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

You should see my list of to-write book titles! Blurb writing is by far the most difficult!

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

I have two favorite memories as an author–writing The End with my first book and receiving my first fan email!

What is your definition of success?

Having readers who love my stories is the highest measure of success to me, but making a living at writing is up there too!

#WOTR21 #AuthorSpotlight #6YearFamily – Dawn Brower

Dawn Brower

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hello, my name is Dawn Brower and I have been writing now for six years (I think…). When I was younger I wanted to be a writer, but not a novelist. My dream was to be a journalist. I don’t know when or where I gave up on that idea. Life…just happened. My father believed I’d be the next Mark Twain. I think he had high expectations (and at the time I thought he was nuts). If I had one wish, I’d have liked to have finished my first book while he was still alive. It might not be a classic by any stretch, but the fact that I finished a book would have made him proud.

I have 70+ books of various lengths available now. All romance, some historical, some time travel, some contemporary, and some romantic suspense. I like to play in a lot of sand boxes. Most of my books fall into some realm of historical though.

I live in Michigan, and have most of my life (one year I lived in Florida. That was the year hurricane Andrew hit and it freaked my mother out. We moved back to MI two weeks later.) For the most part I love it here, but I hate winter. To be more precise…I hate snow. I can deal with the cold. Snow makes me cranky in my advanced age.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

This one depends on the book(s). Some the first is harder, because it takes more research, and planning. You need to organize what you’re going to do and outline the plan as much as possible. It’s not harder to write, but harder in the sense its more work initially. Some books start out with only one book in mind and they spin into a whole series. Writing that book opens your mind up to other possibilities. Then some books, that come later, it’s like pulling teeth to get the characters from point A to point B. It’s not a this or that sort of answer for me.

What comes first? The plot or characters

The plot mostly, but the characters play a huge part in how it forms in my mind.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

At one time I would have said Karen Marie Moning. I used to devour everything she wrote, and I went to many events that involved her. She is the reason I’m close to a select group of people. I met them because of her. Now? This is hard because I’ve met so many authors I look up to. I think Nalini Singh. She’s one of my favorite authors I have not yet met yet.

If you could ask that author three questions about their writing, writing process, or books, what would they be?

What sparks your imagination? When will Bluebell get a book? Do you need a beta reader? I volunteer as tribute. 😉

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

The blurb. I hate, hate, hate blurbs. I actually enjoy naming things lol.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

That feeling after finishing my first book. It was exhilarating. There was a time I thought I would never have the patience to write an entire book, and the fact that I did, still amazes me. Now 70+ written works later…that still leaves me with a heady feeling.

What is your definition of success?

Meeting my deadlines… Writing is rewarding, but let’s be honest…it helps that people actually buy my work so I can keep writing. Every book is a new sense of stress and praying that people will like it. Would it be nice to hit it big? Yes. But it’s important to me that I put out good stories and that people enjoy them. I’m all right with my place in the world.

The others after it!

What is harder? The blurb writing, naming the book, or naming the series.

Naming the book!

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given the ebook from the author for an honest review, but I did purchase the audio book to listen too as well.  I enjoyed the narrator for the book.  She did a great job differentiating between the multiple POVs and characters.

I really enjoyed getting to know the main characters of this series in book 1.  When I saw Jamie was getting an HEA in this book, I was sold!!!  He is the player, but he seems to maybe be a little envious of all the couples and love he is seeing????? The playboy might be ok with settling down….maybe….meh prolly not.  LOL

Skylar and her sister Em are running.  We don’t know much but they are in need of a pack that will help packless wolves.  When she finds Wolf Creek, she decided to go out for a drink but quickly stumbled into a tall dark drink of waters bed.  She leaves after her delicious one-night stand to discover he is the Beta in her new possible pack!!  AKWARD!!!

Skylar and Jamie have this crazy intense chemistry, but Jamie is also falling for her little siter.  He is the sweetest guy in the world to Em and treats her like a little sister.  Skylar and Jamie both are so afraid to admit their feelings and so when her past catches up to her, their fear is what actually causes them to have issues.  Communication is a big issue between Jamie and Skylar thought the book.  They both have pasts and they both are so scared.  He is afraid to open up and be destroyed by a woman.  She thinks admitting your feelings makes you weak.

I gotta say….I am so flipping excited about book 3.  If you read book one then you know how much Killian LOVES Aidan the Warlock.  Welp friends it seems he is going to be getting an HEA and the love match is going to be a wild ride!!!!

Author H.R. Savage (Heather) started reading romance at an age that made her father cringe as she tried to hide the cover behind her hands. She technically finished writing her first book in Junior High, where it mysteriously disappeared in a reformatting incident. Due to the encouragement of her English teachers at her small town school in La Verne, California, she never lost her love for the art. Now a woman who swears by the power of coffee, Chinese food, and wine (not necessarily in that order), she decided it was time to create stories from the characters in her head.

When Heather isn’t writing, outlining, or pinning pictures of hot ‘character inspirations’ on Pinterest™, she is spending time with her three beautiful children and handsome husband
