#Review #BearShifter – Daddy Biker Bear (Bears of Forest Heights #1) by: Roxie Ray

I trusted a shifter with my virginity. Until he got me pregnant. Then he rejected me as his mate.

I was young and naive when I fell hard for bad boy Grizz, a shifter who was hot enough to melt my good girl heart. Big mistake. Because when good girls are naughty, they end up pregnant.

Now I’m back in Forest Heights to care for my aunt with my son Rainer—the son I’ve been raising on my own for nine years because gruff, tough Grizz didn’t believe our baby was possible.

But Rainer is living proof that shifters and humans can have babies, and now he’s showing signs of growing up to be just like his daddy. When Grizz realizes Rainer is his, he says he wants to get to know him. And the problem is, I’ll do anything for my son.

Except open my heart to Grizz again. I won’t be rejected twice. And it’s far too dangerous, especially when a rival biker gang has their sights set on his patch of turf…

I picked up the complete series from amazon I have not read a bear shifter in a while and this one caught my eye. This was a quick read that had me drawn in and not wanting to put it down. I will say there was not a lot of world building kinda figure things out as you read.

Zo was the good girl always keeping on the strait and narrow path. Her sister was the rebellion and died in a car accident. Trying to deal with the death of her sister she was ready to go to college where she could be who she wanted. Over the summer she went to Aunts states away from home. The first day there she met a friend Kim who invited her to a party where she was introduced to Grizz.

Grizz is a bear shifter alpha of his clan/gang. Grizz and Zo spend the summer together and Zo falls in love with Grizz. Zo gives up her virginity to Grizz and even though it is thought that shifters cannot get humans pregnant Zo ends up pregnant.  Grizz gets mad and thinks Zo was cheating on him because there is no way the baby is his. He sends her away and breaks her heart.

9 years later Zo is back in town to take care of her aunt that had a stroke. Zo came face to face with Grizz and he now knows the 8-year-old boy is his there is no denying it. Grizz needs both Zo and Rain in his life but when his clan/gang issues threaten Zo and Rain will he lose them both? When Grizz make the same mistake with Zo again and it could cost him the life of his boy and his own will he be able to make things right once again.

I wish there was a bit more world building in this book. I did like the plot and the chemistry between Zo and Grizz. At times I forgot Zo was only 18 in the beginning and not 21 or 22. I also loved the friendship between Zo and Kim and Zo and her aunt’s relationship. Grizz was a ass at the beginning but by the end I believe he redeemed himself. Forgiveness was given way easier that what I would have be able to do but it was still all in all a good read. I am intrigued to see how Kim and Hutch (Grizz brother) story goes.

#WOTR25 #NewRelease #Review – Guarded From Treachery(Blade and Arrow Security Bravo Team #4) by: Gia Cobie

Like a dark and dangerous hero, he came to my rescue when I least expected it.

In the midst of a terrifying attack, a mysterious stranger came to my aid. Fierce but gentle, he chased off my attacker, protected, and comforted me.

Before he left, my savior told me to call if I ever needed him.

Did I think about it? Absolutely. Matt was the most intriguing and handsome man I’d ever met.

But that was before my carefully-planned life fell into chaos. Before I began to suspect the fluke attack might be anything but random.

No one else believed me when I told them my story, and I couldn’t really blame them. Even to me, it sounded crazy. But there was just something about Matt that made me believe I could trust him.

Weeks later, I still couldn’t stop thinking about her.

I told myself I was worried about Isla’s safety, and that was true. Though the police dubbed her attack an unfortunate fluke, my gut warned me there might be more to it. That she might still be in danger and I wouldn’t be around the next time to help.

It was more than that, though. I liked Isla. Admired her bravery. And her eyes—a deep, mesmerizing violet—were burned into my memory.

As the days went by, I debated whether to call her. Because, for all my confidence on the battlefield as a former Green Beret, when it came to women, I always hesitated.

Then she called. Said she was in trouble and asked for my help. And once I heard her story, I knew she was right.

As a security expert for Blade and Arrow Security, it’s my job to protect. But with Isla, it’s so much more than just a job. It’s protecting the woman I’m falling for.

Guarded from Treachery has a sweetly protective hero, a strong and courageous heroine, a team of former Green Berets, lots of twists and turns, action and danger, forced proximity, and plenty of sweet and steamy moments. No cliffhangers and a happily-ever-after guaranteed! (Can be read as a standalone!)

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

This is a new to me author. I was a bit worried about starting with the 4th book in the series but I had no problems jumping in and not feeling like I was missing things. I do have to say reading about the side characters makes me want to know more about them and will go back to read their stories.

Isla was attacked in a parking garage while leaving work one afternoon when a heroic stranger saved her. Then he stays and comforts her while the police investigate afterwards, he gives her his number to call if she needed him. After being attached a second time and feeling like she was being watched she tried reaching out to the police and her parents all who told her she sounded crazy. The only person she could think to turn to was her rescuer Matt.  But once he heard her story would he believe her would he help her or would he be like all the rest.

All Matt could think about was Isla after saving her from the attack. When Isla finally called and asked for help, he jumped at the chance. Had her drive to him since he was on duty protecting others at the time. After hearing her story, he knew they could help her knew there was something strange going on and he was going to protect her no matter what the cost. Matt and his group jump in with their investigation of what is going on with Isla.

I could not put this book down once I started it. I had to know what and how things happened to Isla. Between the Mystery of what happened to Isal and why she was being sought out and Matta and Isla relationship there was never a dull moment. I enjoyed meeting the side characters and want to know more about each of them. I loved watching Matt and Isla go from strangers to the relationship that evolved.  I loved the nickname Matt gave Isla, Isles.

I enjoyed this book and will defiantly be going back to read the first 3 books not because I feel I have to know what was going on in this one but because I want to know more of the guys Matt works with.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I enjoy all the VC Warriors and now the Dark Guardians King snuck in and grabbed my heart form that first ballet scene. I love how he says what he wants when it needs to be said. He makes his own mind up on things doesn’t let others sway him. Amara, Joey’s Aunt, I absolutely love her. She is tossed in this world but she holds on to her spunk and sass. She knows how to hold her own and stands up for herself and others.

There is so much going on in this book and everyone is involved which I was not disappointed in. I love seeing all the characters.

Amara is something special not only to King but to all the vampires. Amara has a rare blood type but when evil finds her and turns her to a half breed it makes her blood even more special “Golden Blood” as they call it. Now all evil is after her to use her as a weapon. King runs into her after a wellness check is called for Joey who has not been heard from in a few days.  Can I say Amara gave King a run for his money when they first meet. Amara was used to doing things on her own protecting her brother and nephew. With King. all the Warriors, the Guardians, and all the mates around she slowly realizes she is not alone and what a big family is like.

King is determined to protect Amara and Joey because they are his now a part of his family. He will not let anyone harm them and if they do all hell with break loose.  And boy oh boy does all hell break loose when Amara is taken.  We find out how special her blood is and what it can do when King goes down and she is gone.

Daniel plays a big part in this book.  To be able to watch this man go from an infant, to a boy to the man he is today is an amazing sight to see. It is hard for the Warriors to see him as the man he truly is and not the boy they helped raise. I absolutely loved when Daniel had to do a little butt chewing. Then we have Steve well Steve is Steve and there is never a dull moment when he is present. Gotta love Steve and TikTok. Then we have Joey. I love Joey he is full of life and I love his personality. No matter how much he feels is resting on his shoulders he stays strong but I love that King knows how to get him though everything.

King is a true warrior through and through he can fight and doesn’t take crap from no one but his tender side the way he treats Amara and knows what Amara and Joey need is absolutely heartwarming.  He knows exactly what to say to them to help them move forward.

This book had so much in it learning about King, Amara and Joey but also finding things out about Danial and what is happening in the underworld.  Oh yes we even took a trip to the demon realm. I am excited for Kane’s book and I have a feeling his ‘Mate’ is going to be a good one if it is who I’m thinking and I have to say I am intrigued by her.

A few of my favorites:

He couldn’t help but notice how perfectly she fit against him like a puzzle piece he didn’t realize was missing.

“Never doubt for a second that I don’t want you, Amara,” he whispered, his hot breath grazing her skin. “Because when the time is right, I will have you… all of you.”

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

When Kylie said she had a vampire book I was so excited to read it.  I love me a good paranormal.  I enjoyed Lucas and Skye but I have to say Henry and Benedict were my favorites.

When Skye had to go check on a home but when she checks on the basement her world is turned upside down and she will never be the same. She unknowing woke a vampire, Lucas, that has been sleeping for years. After being woken from years of sleeping he ends up changing Skye bringing her into his family.

I liked Sky even though she was tossed into this new world she makes the most of it and hits it off with her new brothers and sister. Lucas was so gruff and moody but he was so different with Skye. He was patient and caring with her unlike he was with the others he changed by hearing their stories. I have to say I loved Henry and Benedict the most and enjoyed hearing their point of views on things in the past. They were the comedy to this book and always had something to say no matter if it was appropriate or not.

This book had a bit of world building and seemed to have a lot of description of the surroundings in the beginning. Once things started picking up toward the end of the book I was really getting into the story. I liked the plot of the book and seeing the relationship between Skye and Lucas develop. Seeing things in this world unfold from Skye’s perspective was a great way of letting the story unfold. Like I said before the side characters were my favorites. It was interesting seeing Lucas trying to adapt and learn how his world and the world in general had changed while he was sleeping.  Things truly do change in 75 years.

#NewRelease #Review – Cursed by Death (Ruby Jane Book #1) by: Mary Martel

After the death of her mother and her father abandoning her, Ruby Jane grew up in foster care. Due to her father being the king of the underground people think that perhaps Ruby was much better off being raised in foster care.

People would be wrong. She’d just traded one monster in for another, an even bigger one.

Now, as an adult, and after the murder of the only family she had left, Ruby finds herself all alone in the world and seeking answers. Answers she has to venture into the underground to find.

Not a safe place for an innocent girl because the underground isn’t just full of criminals. It’s a place of darkness for the real life monsters that most people think are make-believe. The stuff nightmares are made of, that’s what lurks in the underground.

Ruby may be innocent but she’s anything but average. More familiar with monsters than most, she goes looking for answers and a murderer.

And she gets far more than she bargained for.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I was excited but a bit nervous when Mary sent me this book.  The title and cover of this book did scare me a bit thinking it was going to be a dark story.  I have to say once I started reading it, I was hooked and could not put this one down.  I absolutely loved Ruby Jane.  She is a loner and can take care of herself. She doesn’t need anyone’s help but oh my how she ends up getting it anyway.

Ruby Jane has never had an easy life. She grew up in foster care after being left behind by her parents. She was forced to live with an evil woman but she did have her “twins” there that helped protect her when she was little. When she was older, the only friend she had was her deceased grandmother’s attorney, old man Thomas, that watched over her. Thomas was the only family she had left until one night he was taken from her.

While trying to figure out why Thomas was taken from her she somehow found herself surrounded by all kinds of men that wanted to protect her.  Her twins, Bane and Roan, from her childhood were reunited with her. She found a new friend in the detective Johnny Rowans that was assigned to the murder case. Then there is the shifter, Rally, that claimed her as his mate when she went to the underworld to find answers to her friends’ death.

Ruby Jane is used to being on her own and watching her navigate all these new relationships was entertaining.  I have to say it was fun to watch the guys interact with one another even though none of them see eye to eye on things except to protect Ruby Jane.  To say Ruby Jane will have her hands full is an understatement. I have to say one of the most shocking things was finding out who her father is and how he plays into this was a bit shocking. I am so exited about this series and so ready to find out what happens next with Ruby Jane and her harem of mixed matched men.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

This is the third book in a box set I picked up simply because I was in the mood for a shifter book.

This was another quick read and was just as enjoyable as the other books. This book was about Jolene and Peter.

Jolene is a little down on herself after 2 of her “sisters” found and married amazing men. When weather bring in an unexpected guest to the bed and breakfast Jolene is now trying to fight her attraction to the stranger.

Peter was hired by Jolene clan to find her and return her to the clan. Once he meets Jolene he feels something different. When he realizes Jolene is his mate he has to get her to trust him after he lied about why he was there. He is dedicated to keeping Jolene and the others from their clans.

I loved seeing Peter try to make things right after lying to everyone.  I Like that reunions that are coming up in these books. Watching Peter and Jolene fight their feelings and seeing them learn about each other had me flipping those pages. I cannot wait to hear the rest of the ladies stories.

Serena Meadows has always been obsessed with writing short stories since she was in junior high school. She writes paranormal romance stories of all types but writing about sexy steamy alpha shifters is her passion. She lives in Denver with her two dogs. On her downtime (which is rare), she enjoys hiking and camping in the mountains or riding her bike with her own alpha male to keep her safe and warm. Typically she enjoys an evening curled up buried in a good book or watching Netflix. She also enjoys time with good friends.

Serena is excited to share her work with all of you and looking forward to interacting with her fans!

#Review – Poison and Wine (The Irish Rogues, #1) by: Katie Ashley

Poison and Wine by Katie Ashley

Caterina
As the only daughter of a formidable capo, my existence unfolded within the confines of a gilded cage. At eighteen, I would become a pawn in the intricate game of power, destined to be wed to a high-ranking member of my father’s regime. My fate oscillated between my father’s grasp and that of my future husband. Fleeing was not an option; they would track me down relentlessly. In an act of both self-preservation and rebellion, I sought refuge in a local convent—the sole sanctuary untouched by the shadows of the mafia. Yet, before I could take my final vows, the devil himself knocked at my door — a devastatingly handsome blonde-haired, blue-eyed rogue. With an Irish accent that sent shivers down my spine, he declared me his future wife. No one had touched me; no one would. But despite my aversion to a forced marriage, an irresistible attraction brewed between us— for he was both poison and wine.

Callum
When I abducted a nun, my expectations were simple—she’d be submissive, pliable, the ideal mafia wife. Little did I imagine that the fiery brunette would wield a mouth and body I craved, both in and out of the bedroom. She was a means to an end—a marriage forged out of convenience, a strategic alliance with an enemy family to solidify our standing in the underworld. Tradition dictated that I claim her, yet the last thing I’d do is coerce her. She won’t be forced. I promised she would beg me to take her, and anyone who dared to touch her would die. For she was mine and mine alone.

In the unforgiving realm of the underworld, brace yourself for an electrifying romance pulsating with danger and desire.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I picked this up on Amazon. I enjoy a good mafia book and this one looked entertaining.

Caterina a mafia princess joined a convent to avoid an arranged marriage to a sadistic man. She was a few years out from taking the oath to become a nun and one day out from her 21st birthday she was abducted by an Irish mob family.

When Callum took Caterina, he thought he was getting a meek mild mannered almost nun that would be obedient and docile mafia wife. Well, he found out he underestimated his future bride when she fought him and shot him when they tried to take her. Seriously, she is a mafia princess she can hold her own. Let me tell you she sure kept him on his toes.

I loved that Callum was this rough tough mafia man but when it came the women in his life he was so sweet and loving towards them. He would do anything to protect them from anyone and anything. I enjoyed most of the characters in this book. From Callum and Caterina to his brothers and sister to her brothers. Callum, his brothers and Caterina brothers are not like any other Mafia bosses. I want to know more about both families. Seriously, want to find out more about Caterina’s brother. I will be reading more of this series.

#Twinsieoftheday – Darkness Falls (Nature’s Fury Book 1) by A.E. Faulkner

As nature tires of human destruction, two sisters must face a changing environment that stands between them and survival.

———————————-

When Quinn and Riley set out on a family vacation with their parents, the trip ends before it begins. Mother Nature interferes with their plans, setting off a sequence of events that thrusts the teens into a hostile landscape.

Stranded, with limited supplies, struggling to figure out who they can trust along the way, they must determine how to survive nature’s evolving fury.

Goodreads

Review by Brandy

I received this book for an honest review.

With the description I was a little surprised that nature wasn’t the immediate problem that the girls
face. Instead it is bad people, and they must decide who they can trust. Then mother nature ups the
ante making a bad situation even worse.
The sisters are stranded alone, and after their food starts to run low, they start to come out of hiding. At
first nothing seems so bad, but then little truths about some people around them start to come out.
When Mother Nature gets in on the game things really start to get bad. With people in survival mode,
strangers become even more dangerous.
While not what I expected it is a good book about two sisters trying to take care of each other. There is
no explicit content, but there is a bit of violence and death as tragedy strikes.

A. E. Faulkner was born and raised in Pennsylvania. When she’s not lost in a book, she loves spending time with her husband and two sons, especially while hiking, biking, or exploring nature. She loves almost everything about nature—ticks excluded, and one of her biggest fears is the repercussions we will face when nature can no longer tolerate human destruction. As such, she never tires of reading dystopian-themed tales. Stories about the end of the world absolutely fascinate her.

I received this book for an honest review.

From the description this book was not what I expected. This is not a bad thing, just different. I think
maybe I was expecting a bit more action. This is the first book by this author that I’ve read, so I’m not
familiar with the series that this was expanded from, so that may make a difference.
The story is about a girl and her best friend who are about to start their second year of college and decide
to live off campus. They rent rooms in an older house, and there is an old picture window that starts to
show Chloe things. These visons are of past, current, and future events leaving Chloe confused and
trying to figure out what to do. When she starts seeing visions of a horrible accident, she decides she
must do whatever it takes to stop it.
This book is very interesting, but it is a book that sets up a series. It gives you background stories, and
lets you know how the characters get to where they need to be for the main event. Wren doesn’t get
introduced until towards the end of the book, so we don’t know much about her power. There are also
hints that there are more characters to be added to the group. I am very interested in where this story
goes as this book did draw me in.

Review by Brandy

I received this book for an honest review.

This is such a good sequel! I recommend reading book one as this one picks up shortly after the first and
it doesn’t really go over anything from the previous book. This book has it all. Pirates, magic, magical
creatures, secrets and revenge.
Volke and the other apprentice arcanists are sent with their master to protect Griffins during a bonding
ceremony. Arcanists are people who have bonded with a magical creature, similar to having a familiar as
a witch or wizard in other books but a bit more complicated. While on their mission the island they are
on is infiltrated by pirates. Their leader is the one who took Volke’s sister’s eye and this sends her on a
personal mission of revenge. Nothing goes as planned and it’s a race to see if they can beat the pirates
to what they really want.
The world building is excellent and layered on to what was started in book one. You really start to get a
feel for the global interaction of people and cultures in Volke’s world. Character growth is also really
good not only for the main character and his sister but for the other’s in their apprentice group. I would
recommend this for teens. There is no adult content but some violence as these pirates are not messing
around.

Shami Stovall is a multi-award-winning author of fantasy and science fiction. Before that, she taught history and criminal law at the college level and loved every second. When she’s not reading fascinating articles and books about ancient China or the Byzantine Empire, Stovall can be found playing way too many video games, especially RPGs and tactics simulators. She loves John, reading, and writing about herself in the third person.
