#Sugar4SPICE #AuthorSpotlight – Jane Charles

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Jane Charles. I live in the Midwest with my hubby who is a former marine and police officer. I wasn’t always a reader, but when I was sixteen and stuck in the car driving back from Florida, I started reading the romance my sister had brought on vacation and fell in love. When I’m not writing, I spend a lot of time at the local community theatres where I head up hair and makeup on an average of five to six shows a year. But my true theatre passion is directing and cannot wait for the next opportunity to sink my teeth into a script and watch characters come alive.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

My home office or out on the patio when the weather is nice, as in no snow or ice. Fall outside is my favorite. It’s not so much food that I need, but coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

First, meeting readers and second, spending time with authors that I only talk to through social media. It’s just really great to connect in person and not through a computer screen.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

If he were alive, Tom Clancy. Even though he doesn’t romances, his Jack Ryan series is a favorite.

What author would you love to write with?

Tammy Falkner. We’ve been critique partners, but we’ve never written together.

#Sugar4SPICE #AuthorSpotlight – Sue Rovens

Sue Rovens

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Sue Rovens. I’m an indie suspense/horror author and blogger. Currently, I have 5 books – three of which are novels and two which are collections of short stories. Since I’m not at the point where I can do this for a living, I spend my days at Illinois State University (Milner Library) working as a Stacks Maintenance Manager. I’ve been with ISU for over 28 years.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

Home, in the den. I don’t need any food (maybe an iced tea). When I’m writing, I try to limit all distractions, and that includes eating.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I know the answer is supposed to be meeting all the people, and that IS a great thing about signings. But I think my favorite thing is the anticipation of the event – what the whole day will be like and how the overall feel will be. Every signing I’ve attended has had it’s own distinct ebbs and flows. I find that pretty compelling.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Unfortunately, the author I wanted to meet has passed. I was able to connect with him in some fashion through email and a message board on his website when he was alive. Jack Ketchum (Dallas Mayr was his real name) was gracious enough to consent to be part of my Meet & Greet, a section on my blog where I interview authors. The Meet & Greet was his last public interview before he died in January 2018.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

There are too many to call “one” a particular favorite. But, one of the best memories has been standing at my author’s table in the Barnes & Noble up in Rockford selling my books (this was early on when I only had one or two books out). It had always been a dream to be in a real bookstore selling something that I had written. That will always be a very special memory.

#Sugar4SPICE #AuthorSpotlight – Harley Easton

Harley Easton

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Harley Easton – I’m a midwestern woman who has done a little bit of everything. I tend to write short stories. Everything has a healthy dose of romance, but sometimes I venture into paranormal romance, erotica, romantic horror, or fairy tale spin offs.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

I have an office where I usually do work. It sounds strange, but I must have a cup of ice with me.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love meeting people. New readers and new authors are always fun to chat with. I end up connecting with so many after the event and making good friendships.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I was lucky enough to meet Neil Gaiman and Molly Harper who were both previously on my list. Now, I’d love to spend a long conversation with Jim Butcher or Mercedes Lackey.

What author would you love to write with?

Other than the ones on my unicorn list? I think Sarah Addison Allen and I would write a really cool book together because I really get into the rich Southern magical-realism feel she has in her books. I’d also love to work with Marissa Meyer because that woman transforms fairy tales like a master.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

My father telling me he’s proud of me and my mother asking to read one of my books. I’ve been blessed with a very supportive and close-knit family. Their praise made me cry.
