#Review #Contemporary #Suspense Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla (Sunset Reads 2) by D.C. Triana

One year.
It’s been one year since Agent Damian Trent left for Washington without a word.
One year since he’s seen her beautiful face.
One year since he’s heard his name on her lips.
He’s been recently called back to New York City on assignment, to catch a criminal who’s trying to infiltrate Sunset Reads. The last thing he expects is to work side by side with the woman he turned his back on.
Having her close is an unwanted distraction that he’s more than willing to ignore, if only she wasn’t so damn tempting.
Everything seems under control, until a night of feverish passion has him abandoning all thoughts of reason. Now, he will do everything in his power to get her back, and even more so to protect her.

Layla Reece wants nothing to do with the man who left her a year ago.
The man who took her heart with him, leaving her broken.
After a year of trying to forget Damian Trent, she is finally ready to move on.
But trying to forget him becomes a tedious task when he suddenly reappears in her life.
Although she fights to stay away, his magnetism is too strong and she finds herself giving into the deep timbre of his voice, and the strength and safety of his arms.
Staying away from Damian turns out to be futile, especially when his kisses consume her and his heart shatters the walls she spent so much time building.
Finding herself in danger, she now has to turn to the only man she trusts to keep her safe, but can she trust him enough to give him her heart once again?

He smiled wickedly and leaned in, bringing his face only inches away from hers. “What do you want to know, Miss Reece?”
Layla stared at those full, sensual lips, warmth spreading through her.
“Everything,” she replied breathlessly, her eyes widening when she realized she had spoken aloud.
He stared back at her parted lips while she spoke, and fought the urge to close the distance between them. After a brief moment, he smiled and leaned back. “I can tell you that I’m an only child. I can also tell you I grew up here in New York. In Brooklyn. Joined the military at eighteen.”
“How did you get recruited into the FBI?”
“I was a translator in the Special Ops unit. I graduated with two majors-”
“Two majors! Wow!” Her eyes showed genuine admiration.
“Don’t seem so surprised…” he teased.
“Oh…no…it’s just that, well you don’t really seem like…” she trailed off, not sure how to continue.
“Like a book worm?” He smiled.
“Well. Yes.” She played with her napkin nervously, her nerves catching up to her.
“And how do I seem, Miss Reece?”
Layla was briefly stumped by the question, but then pursed her lips in contemplation, mischief shining in her eyes.
“Rough around the edges,” she paused, taking in his demeanor, “definitely reserved…” Her eyes traveled along his strong jawline, making her way across his broad shoulders, and pausing slightly on the muscles of his chest before she brought her eyes back up to meet his. “Powerful,” she whispered.
He leaned in again. “Is that all?”
She smiled, a glint of amusement in her eyes. “Very Intelligent,” she finished, and took a sip of her drink, taking a quick glance at him beneath lowered lashes.
He stared at those green eyes. “You’re very observant, Miss Reece, and surprisingly rather bold.”
She smiled. “So I’ve been told.”
His eyes narrowed dangerously. “Have you also been told that you are very sexy, and that just by a glance from those emerald eyes you can make a man think deliciously, dark thoughts?” His voice was low and seductive.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

This is book two in the Sunset. Reads series. A little refresher, Sunset Reads is a publishing house owned by William Jameson and his bestselling author wife Cristina Cruz. We met them in book one as it was the story of how they met, came together, and saved the company from his evil ex step father. We met Layla and Damian in their story too. Layla Reece is Cristina’s best friend and now she has been hired as the new Public Relations Director for the publishing House.
Damian Trent is one of Will’s oldest and closest friends and is in the FBI.
He and Layla had the start of a thing when they first met, but he left suddenly and destroyed her heart.
Now he is back in New York and still attracted to her, as she is him. However, she has no plans to ever lose her heart to him again.
When he is given his new assignment to look into a company that the FBI is looking into for embezzlement and fraud, he is sent right into Sunset Reads. Not knowing that Layla works there now, he has to convince Will and Cristina to let him use their company to catch the person behind the embezzling and frauds and he has to work with Layla too.
OMG! So, the attraction these two have is off the charts! They constantly want to be near each other but can’t stand to be near each other at the same time. Not to mention the fact that he absolutely does not like that she has to pretend to be attracted to the head of the company that he is investigating and Henry Cristina’s brother is in love with her.
Layla is a strong woman and know what she wants and knows how to do her job and the job that the FBI want her to do. Damian has been a agent for a long time and he is good at it. However, working with Layla is driving him outta his ming and I love seeing this strong man brought to his knees.
When they finally get together I’m surprised that the fire alarms don’t go off, that is how hot they are.
This story has it all; bad guys, bad girls, shoot outs, hot love scenes, hot FBI agents, hot fireman fiends, hot BFF with accents!!
Triana writes a story with mystery, intrigue, and about two people who when the going gets tough they stand up and do the job they have to do, and fall in love in the process.
Though this is book two in the series, I think it reads well as a stand alone. I do hope that we see Henry the Hot fireman and hunky Sebastian with his awesome accent get their HEA. I can’t wait for the next story!

My name is D.C. and I’m the author of a new series currently on Amazon called Sunset Reads. The first book is based on the couple William and Cristina who find themselves fighting their urges to be with one another although a series of heated moments changes their lives forever.
I grew up in New York, I’m the daughter of two wonderful,Colombian immigrant parents. I’m a traveler, the travel bug hit me a couple years ago and my goal is to eventually see the whole world. So far I’ve gotten to Italy and Japan…I’m thinking Germany next. I started to write as an outlet for being bullied at school and as soon as I started I couldn’t put the pen down. It was always my dream to be a published author, ever since the age of fourteen, and now at 34 I finally accomplished my goal.
I plan on continuing to write and really truly want to get to meet new readers and writers and share experiences and ideas. Being a part of forums is new to me, but I would love to get to know about the people who love to dream and create new ideas and fantasies through literature just like I do. Thank you for making me a part of your group and allowing me to join you in these amazing adventures in storytelling and reading.
