Suzan Tisdale

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Suzan Tisdale. I am a USA Today Bestselling author, with more than 15 published titles and more than 350,000 copies sold around the world. My books have been translated into four foreign languages. They are also available in paperback and audio book.

I write 14th century Scottish Historical Romance: men in kilts, with broadswords, strong heroines, and bad guys I kill off in delightful ways. I’ve also written an 18th century Italian Georgian novel about a king and his courtesan.

When and Why did you start to write?

I’ve been writing since childhood. But in 2011, I wanted to give my mom a Kindle for her birthday. I thought it would be a hoot if when she turned it on for the first time, something I had written was on it. I started writing Laiden’s Daughter. I published it in December of 2011, thinking no one was ever going to read it. It was, after all, just a simple book for my mom. By February of 2012, it was #3 on Amazon’s Top 100 list in three categories. I haven’t looked back since!

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

That is a long list! Tanya Anne Crosby, Kathryn Le Veque, Kathryn Lynn Davis, Glynnis Campbell, Lucinda Brandt, Amanda Forester, Carmen Caine, Laurin Wittig… it’s a long list!

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

That it is an eighteen hour a day, seven day a week job. Sometimes, it feels like a baptism by fire. But I’ve also made the best of friends with indie authors.

What are you working on now?

The Bowie Bride. It is book two in my Mackintoshes and McLarens series.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

I used to be a pantster. Now I am a plotter.
