#WOTR18 #AuthorSpotlight – Attending Author AD Ellis @ADEllisAuthor

A.D. Ellis

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

A.D. Ellis I’m a mom, wife, inner city teacher, and author. I enjoy reading, writing, napping, and teaching myself to crochet. I love spending time with my friends, laughing, eating, tasting new sweet red wines. I’m pretty much addicted to chocolate and hot tea.

When and Why did you start to write?

I started a story in October of 2013 while on Fall Break at my parents’ house. I had been thinking of the story for a while and just decided to see if I could do it. That story (For Nicky) was published in April of 2014 and, nineteen books later, I guess you could say I was bitten by the writing bug.

What authors do you always read or suggest to others?

My local writer peeps: TC Winters, Jillian Jacobs, Anya Breton, Ava Cuvay, Lori Wood, Cheryl Brooks, Donya Lynne, Lisa Caviness, Roxy Mews, Aly Grady, Melanie Jayne, Aleatha Romig….the list goes on and is a LONG one, but I have very talented writer friends right here in Indiana!
In my male/male genre, I love Kaje Harper, Missy Welsh, Finn Marlowe, Keira Andrews, Kay Simone, Ella Frank, Riley Hart, Felice Stevens…seriously, I could fill this entire page with my friends and fellow male/male romance genre writers.

What is the most surprising thing you have found out with the writing process?

It’s not concrete. Some days things work, some days they don’t. Words will flow one day and refuse to come the next. The process I used for one book may not be the same as I use for another. Ideas pop into my head at the weirdest times. Sometimes I go back to those ideas and they become great stories, other times they sit and marinate, or maybe they never go anywhere at all.
For me, the writing process is very fluid.

What are you working on now?

At the moment of writing this interview, I’m working on the third (last) book in my Blueridge Junction Boys (The BJ Boys) series titled Bound to Fight.

When writing are you a pantser or plotter?

I am a pantser who likes to have a bit of a plan. Or a plotter who enjoys when pantsing happens. Really, I can’t start a book without SOME sort of plan, but most of my stories unfold during the actual writing.
