I was asked to read this book and really was just jumping at the whole “enemies to lovers”. Who can turn away from bitter rivals who finally can see how wrong they are about the other and then to fall in love after is the icing on the cake right?? Ok well I can’t see past that any way, so I jumped. I did read the prequal for the book that gives us a look at the characters when they were in high school. It also gives us insight to the side characters who will also be getting books as well.
Declan and Mak are two very stubborn individuals who will not look past preconceived notions of the other for more then one second. They are both very attracted and have a spark but Mak can’t let anyone in because of her drive. Dec can’t fail because he has to achieve his goal of being a professional hockey player.
The chemistry and build up for the couple is a slow burn but to be honest that is what makes it believable. There were a few times it might have been a bit too slow but hey I am ok with extra-long angst. These two people come a long way from pure hatred and indifference to seeing the real person the other is to finally be accepting of the other person for who they are and what they are.
The sexy times are really nicely written and very sexy indeed. I enjoyed the banter and barbs they both gave in the story because it was first their way to cope and diffuse the situations but then I looked at it as their way to show affection and acceptance.
I cant wait to read more from the series. I wanna know about Emmet and Avery!! These two are killing me!!
