#Review #TwinsieforthedayBecky #ARC #Paranormal – Fighting the Lies by Anna Edwards

Amazon US I Amazon UK I Amazon CA

The cage door closes on Emma Bryant’s freedom after she is arrested for a brutal murder that she did not commit. The tough-talking lioness knows the penalty she faces is death. Can she repel all of the lies in order to survive?

Scott Frazier is always the joker. Beneath the golden lion’s mane is hidden a secret that just might save the woman he’s known to be his future mate since the first time he saw her. The blood of kings runs through him. Will he make the ultimate sacrifice to save the one he loves?

Fighting the Lies is the sequel to The Touch of Snow; the paranormal romance that had non-readers converting to the genre. It continues the story of the Glacial Blood pack as they strive to save a member from the horrific position she finds herself in. But the story isn’t that simple, not when Nuka Lincoln is around, and an impending storm threatens the world as they know it. The Glacial Blood world is full of intrigue, suspense and kick arse fights. It also features a secret that should remain untold.

A family isn’t always blood; it’s the people in your life that accept you for what you are.

Review by Becky

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Short and sweet. 🙂
WOW. You continue to suck me into the world of multi-shifters. 🙂
Emma and Scott knowing that they were destined to be from first sight played out during the flashbacks. True love is doing things for another that go against personal needs. Scott hit a home run with Emma right next. Nuka – what an ass. Greed and selfishness never win. They only get short term “victories”. I can’t wait for you to dunk the dude! Tyler, man, what did you do? I’m ready for #3.

“Hamster.” Wyatt barged into his office and sank onto one of the chairs across from his desk. “Why the hell are you doing paperwork? You hate it. Have you called him yet? Aled’s dying to know.”

“Aled’s dying to know?” Hamish didn’t buy that excuse for a moment. “You’re a gossiping twat.”

“That’s a no, then. What’s the matter with you? He’s hot—he can fucking cook. Have you tried those pie things he bakes? You’re not going all weirdly stuffy and British again, are you?” Wyatt, in his typical sharp-eyed manner, found the tender spots in Hamish’s armour and needled him ruthlessly. “Dude. Text him. Send a fucking pigeon. Scottie has zero chance with him, but he’s not the only man in Cardiff.”

Hamish involuntarily crushed the invoice in his hand, the one he’d been pretending to peruse when the American twat interrupted him. “Bloody Yank.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. Did I hit the mark?” Wyatt chuckled. “It’s almost lunch. Go pick something up at his bakery. I know that you know where it’s at.”

Earp.” Hamish tried to silence his old friend with a glare, but Wyatt only hummed under his breath and ignored him. “Don’t you have a desk of your own? Aren’t you supposed to be working on the report for that new client?”

Wyatt’s grin only widened until he resembled a shark scenting blood in the water. “Text him, Hamster. Don’t fuck up because of the massive stick up your ass.”

“Go. Away.”

Once Wyatt retreated to his own office, still chuckling loudly, Hamish tapped his fingers restlessly against the desk. The obnoxious twit had a point. Several, actually. I won’t tell him though, his ego’s massive enough. He shoved the papers away from him; invoices could wait.

I am a bit peckish.

And Akash’s bakery is only a ten-minute drive.

“Hammy Hamster.” Lily slid on her socked feet out of her office to block his path. “Grab us some pasties, will you? Nye wants the curry potato ones.”

He tried to step around her, but she danced around. “Lils.

“Might want to spruce yourself up a bit.” She laughed when he grabbed her by the shoulders to move her out of the way. “Comb your hair at least.”

“And brush your teeth,” Vinnie shouted from his office.

“Shine your shoes?” Nye offered.

“Thanks ever so much.” Hamish pinched the bridge of his nose while everyone in the office yelled out their suggestions. “I hate each and every one of you both individually and collectively.”

#BlogerFosteringAnAuthor – Snowbound by Kim Golden

Snowbound by [Golden, Kim]

Meet Mia Wilkinson.
Mia Wilkinson doesn’t feel very thankful right now, despite it being Thanksgiving. She’s just found out her married boyfriend has no intention of leaving his wife. She heads north to her deceased grandmother’s house in a small town in Vermont. But her plans for a solitary Christmas don’t go as planned—especially when a gorgeous South African photographer shows up on her doorstep.

And then there’s Jake Groenewald…
Jake’s come to Hunters Grove to get over losing his best friend and colleague to the atrocities of war. The last thing he expects is to have his life turned upside down by Mia and her Rules of Cohabitation. And falling in love is definitely not on his agenda.
Will a little snow help them along the way?

from Snowbound

I turn off the ignition and then got out of the car. It’s colder here than it had been in Philly and I want to make sure there’s enough firewood in the house, in case I decide to light a fire. I set my grocery bags on the porch and then go back to the car to fetch my battered weekend bag. That’s when I notice a dark figure coming up the driveway.

Whoever it is is tall and walks with care on the snow-dusted gravel. I call out a

“hey!” and the figure stops then comes toward me. Shit, maybe this was dumb.

“This is private property,” I say with more bravery than I feel. It’s dark enough now that the porch light isn’t providing enough light to see the stranger’s face.

“I know, so what are you doing here?”

“I own this place,” I say hotly. “Who are you? And just what are you doing here?”

“I live here,” the man replies and steps closer. “If you own this place, then you should know who your tenant is.”

“What are you talking about? I never said anyone could rent here—”

“Ruth Carter helped me set everything up,” he says. “I’ve got a lease.”

“Look, my grandmother left me this place—”

“Ah. you’re the prodigal granddaughter. .right, that explains it. You don’t live here.”

“Just who are you?”

“I’m Jake Groenewald,” he clarifies. “Like I said, I’m your tenant. I’m renting the guest cottage.”

“Nope. It’s a boat.”

“Why’s there a yacht-like boat in the combat zone?”

“Better question: Can we make it go boom?”

“Within the parameters of our war games with the Brits?”

“Does it matter?”

“Oi, Earp. Get your twats to shut the bloody hell up, will you? They’re clogging up our airwaves. Are they comedians or soldiers?” The dry humour in Hamish Ross’s voice echoed loudly in Wyatt’s ear where he’d been working valiantly to ignore the chatter from his team. “You listening?”

“We’re Navy SEALs, Hamster, not soldiers. We leave that grunt shit to you.” Wyatt couldn’t help needling his old friend and SAS counterpart. They’d worked together multiple times over the years, sharing secrets, wounds, and beers. “Hey, Ross, any clue why there’s a vessel in our designated dive area?”

“None.” Hamish spoke in muffled tones to someone, and a long silence stretched before he returned to Wyatt. “Shouldn’t be there, Earp. We’re picking up four warm bodies on the thermal camera. They’re not ours—or yours. Boat’s registered to a local rental company, the owner claims only one person should be on it. A botany student from Cardiff.”

#BloggerFosteringAnAuthor – Maybe Tomorrow: A Maybe… Novel (Maybe… #4) by Kim Golden

Maybe Tomorrow: A Maybe... Novel

No such thing as love…

Eddy and Henrik don’t believe in love. At least, that’s what they keep telling themselves. They’ve been burned in the past, and neither wants to be that vulnerable again.

A summer fling…

That’s all it was ever supposed to be. So why can’t they stop thinking about one another? And for Eddy–who’s moving back to America in a few weeks–the worst thing that could happen would be to fall in love with the one man who could make her question her decision.

Out of his comfort zone…

Henrik never counted on trusting love again. He’s put all his energy into his career. So why does the thought of Eddy leaving Europe for good make him want to do everything in his power to make her want to stay…?

from Maybe Tomorrow

“Well, it’s just us here. .but it’s not a scary film so we should be okay.”

Once the film started, she was so lost in it, I think she forgot I was even there. I couldn’t blame her. The story of a war photographer whose family can no longer accept the danger of her work, and the emotional maelstrom it sets off when she puts one of her children at risk, was so compelling that I was too caught up in it to remember to even eat my popcorn.

Halfway through the film, Eddy shifted in her seat and nestled into me so that her head rested on my shoulder. On the screen, a love scene unfolded between Juliette Binoche and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as they grappled with their issues and the weight of their love for one another. And it hit me–soon Eddy would leave. She’d already made it clear she was returning to New York once Laney and Mads were back from their honeymoon. These weeks in Copenhagen were only a brief respite until she could have access to her apartment in New York. I wanted to convince her to stay despite how fleeting whatever we had was. I was no different from the husband on screen, trying to persuade his wanderlust wife to stay. The only difference was there was nothing to hold Eddy here. And I knew that the only thing we had were these days together. Whatever was going on between us–was it a fling? Were we simply friends?

When she sighed, I turned my head just enough to capture her lips with mine. I cupped her cheek with my palm and held her there. Even in the dark cinema I could see her shining eyes, the questioning they held. .but then her hand crept up to mine and her fingers slid into the space mine left and it felt like in that moment we made a promise to one another.

#BloggerFosteringAnAuthorWeek #MM #Giveaway – The Caretaker, The Sin Bin Book #2 by Dahlia Donovan

Who cares for the caretaker when his burden grows too heavy to bear?

Freddie Whittle devotes his life to his cancer patients, cheese, and his overprotective fathers. His big move to Cardiff is tainted by bigot neighbors and a dismal social life. He wants something more but doesn’t know what until he runs headlong into a Scottish-Maori mountain of a man.

Taine Afoa retires from international rugby feeling restless. He left his career behind and relocates for a change of pace. The last thing he expects is to become infatuated with someone who seems far too young and innocent for him. No matter how hard he tries, it’s impossible to get Freddie out of his mind.

Can Freddie handle the intensity of Taine’s naughty sexual desires?

And when the strong alpha male tangles with the playful nurse, will this May-December romance end before it even begins?

The Caretaker is book two in Dahlia Donovan’s international bestselling gay romance series, The Sin Bin. Each one features hot rugby players and the men who steal their hearts.

“Overall, I think that The Caretaker is one of the best reads I have had this year. It was witty, it was passionate, and most of all, it was all incredibly realistic. It was wonderfully written, and as I have said before, such a refreshing read. Dahlia Donovan did such an incredible job on it. I cannot wait to sink my teeth into more of her work. Five stars! Amazing!”  —Loren E., Amazon Reviewer

“Are you going to continue to stare at my lips whenever you look my direction?” Taine’s voice dropped down to a husky whisper. “If you are, why don’t you bring yours a little closer to mine? You’ll see them far better with your mouth than your eyes.”

Cursing his exuberant and generally impulsive nature, Freddie leaned forward until their lips hovered a breath away from each other. One strong exhale could bring them close enough to qualify as a kiss. Taine didn’t move backwards or forwards; they both waited for the deadlock to be broken.

“Oh, why not,” Freddie muttered impatiently. He surged forward, closing the distance. His lips smacked awkwardly to the left of Taine’s, which caused the man to chuckle. “Oh, coc y gath, sorry.”

“Calm down.” Taine caught Freddie’s chin in his hand and guided him closer. His mouth controlled the connection. They had to tilt to avoid their noses mashing uncomfortably. The former rugby player’s tongue darted across Freddie’s lips and pressed the advantage. He delved expertly into their true first touch. “Now that is a kiss.”

“You should be ashamed.”

Freddie jerked away from Taine and snapped around to find a woman in her sixties glaring at them—or at Taine specifically. “Pardon?”

“You should be ashamed.” She pointed a bony finger at Taine. “Corrupting a young teenager. Is that legal? I’ve half a mind to report you. Are you okay, young man? Did he force you away from your parents?”

“A teenager?” Freddie swallowed down an irrational burble of laughter. “I’m twenty-six years old.”

“Oh. Oh, dear. I’m so sorry.” She covered her mouth in obvious embarrassment. “You look so young. I just assumed. Carry on then, loves. Never you mind me. It’s always good to see someone enjoying the pleasures of life.”

The two men stayed silent after accepting her apology. Freddie only dared to peek at Taine out of the corner of his eye once the woman had gone back to her seat. A clear mistake. It started with a snort, muffled quickly by his hand, but quickly dissolved into laughter anyway; it continued until their sides ached and they were gasping for air.

Freddie regained his composure just as the train pulled into Paddington station, forcing him to shelve any comments about the kiss. “Ready for the next stage of the journey?”

from Maybe Forever

I looked up from the sketches Jonas had given me. Benny was perched on the

far end of the farm table we used for all meetings and group pow-wows. “It’s actually next week, but we’ll all be in Milan.”

“So you’re celebrating early?” She crossed her ankles. Her overalls gapped at the side and revealed glimpses of evenly tanned skin. I glanced away. “I love that you two are so. .romantic.” She said it as though my wanting to do something nice for Laney was quaint.

“Did you finish the updates to the sketches for the Hotel Alexandra project?” I didn’t want to discuss Laney with Benny. I knew how it would go. Benny was

one of those women who said she was one of the guys. But she made sure you

always knew she wasn’t one of the guys. And right now I couldn’t concentrate with her watching me, swinging her legs back and forth, flashing that smile I knew my workshop mates Jonas and Morten had called saucy. Saucy because

she made you feel like she’d stripped you naked without even removing a

single piece of clothing, like she should see past all your defenses. She was the sort of woman you could fuck if you wanted and pretend you could go back to

being friends. Because that’s what the cool girls did. At least, that’s what Laney used to tell me. Because she said she’d been one of those women.

I stole another glance at Benny. She’d hopped off the table and was now

peering down at the table top and the unfurled prints of the ideas for the hotel renovation we’d presented for a project bid. She leaned forward, the tops of her breasts suddenly exposed. I felt my mouth going dry. I looked away. I didn’t want her. I knew I didn’t. I wanted my wife. But. .no, this was just a rough patch.

Benny was not the one I wanted to hold.

I wanted Laney.

I wanted her to want me again.
