A Dance with Seduction (A Spy in the Ton, #3)

She was the only code he couldn’t break…

Vivienne Le Fleur is one of London’s most sought after opera dancer and one of England’s best weapons: the spy known as the Flower. When a French agent pressures her to change allegiance by abducting her sister, Vivienne is forced to seek the help of the only man in London who doesn’t want her.

Maximilian Westwood, retired code breaker, doesn’t like surprises or mysteries and The Flower is both. When she sneaks into his study in the middle of the night with a coded message, he’s ready to push her out whatever window she arrived through. Except Maximilian is unable to turn away a woman in trouble. Determined to rescue Vivienne’s sister, they engage in a game of cat and mouse with French spies that requires all of Vivienne’s training and Maximilian’s abilities. Bound together by secrecy, they discover there is more between them than politics and hidden codes, but love has no place among the secrets of espionage…

How a Series is Born…When it was Never Supposed to be a Series

By Alyssa Alexander

Confession time. I didn’t intend to write the Spy In The Ton books as a series. I simply wrote a book awhile back.

That first book is not part of the series, by the way. It’s hiding in the deepest, darkest, drawer in my desk. It’s, um, not very good. (Understatement of the year).

But as so often happens in a book, secondary characters take over. In that case, the best friend of the hero stole a few scenes—and then Julian Travers, Earl of Langford, suddenly needed a story. I couldn’t NOT tell his story. He laughed quite a bit, had bright blue eyes, and in my head looked like Matthew McConaughey. So I scrapped that dismally bad first manuscript and wrote THE SMUGGLER WORE SILK. That book sold and was nominated for a RITA.

Funny thing happened, though. The hero’s best friend and co-agent in SMUGGLER, Angel, took over a couple of scenes. All of the sudden, Angel needed a book. He had a lost love, and, well, he was a handsome devil. Golden all over and with the soul of a musician. I HAD to write his story. Ergo…IN BED WITH A SPY.

Are you noticing a trend, perchance?

Suddenly I had two connected books, a small series, without actually intending for it to be a series. I simply knew some characters who needed to have their love story told.

But there are four books in the series. How did that happen, you ask? Take a wild guess!

See, there was this opera dancer in IN BED WITH A SPY. A female spy. Something about her called to me. She was a very layered individual, with secrets upon secrets that needed to be delved into. Vivienne, aka the Flower, had her own story. I had to tell it. And what better than to pair her with the man who didn’t like all those secrets, codebreaker Maximillian Westwood.

Voila. The third book in the series, A DANCE WITH SEDUCTION, is just releasing this July. Oh, Maximillian and Vivienne danced around each other for a bit, but I gave them their happy ending. He’s gruff but softhearted, and she’s vulnerable and secretive. Neither is ready to fall in love—so naturally, they do!

But the pattern continues, my dears. Oh, yes it does. Because there’s another character whose story is just begging to be told. It’s Jones. If you have read IN BED WITH A SPY, you’ll remember him as the strong but silent spy working with Angel. He doesn’t think much of himself, in truth. Jones believes he was born a no one from the rookeries, and all the good he’s done in his life won’t turn him into someone. Little does he know, he needs nothing but the love of a woman to show him he was someone all along. And so I gave him Cat. THE LADY AND MR. JONES releases in October—the fourth book the series that was never meant to be a series.

Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to writing. There are only people who have a story, and an author who must tell those stories.

Happy Reading!

Heart of the Moment (Heart’s Intent #3) by Dawn Brower

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Man…Jessica…talk about straight up See you Next Tuesday kinda girl……..I mean I didn’t think Dawn could do it but she does.  She made me like and kinda forgive Jessica for her past and awful behavior with Ren and Dani.  WHAT!!  How can she make me hate and then be ok with and eve cheer on a person?  Dunno but Dawn was able too.

Jessica does have to deal with the bed she made though once she is dealt a pretty difficult hand.  But that is what happens when you are a bad person.  But not to worry Preston is there to help her and tell her she is worth it  We have seen him love her from the beginning and then he is there to help he realize she is special and worth being loved.

Dawn Brower works as a substitute teacher and enjoys the flexibility it gives her to concentrate on her other endeavors.

Growing up she was the only girl out of six children. She is a single mother of two teenage boys; there is never a dull moment in her life. Reading books is her favorite hobby. While she loves all genres she focuses most of her writing on historical and contemporary romance.

There are always stories inside her head; she just never thought she could make them come to life. That creativity has finally found an outlet.

#Review – Rabid Wolf (Olento Research Series – Book 3) by Sarah Noffke

Rabid Wolf: A Paranormal Science Fiction Thriller (Olento Research # 3)

Rabid and hungry for vengeance, one wolf won’t stop until he’s put to death.

A string of murders involving women are making the residents of Los Angeles panic. They’re calling the serial killer the “rabid wolf” because he tears his prey open by the throat and leaves behind a maimed body.

Meanwhile, at the Lucidite Institute, the pack is training, under Zephyr’s instruction. He knows that soon they’ll have to go after the rabid wolf and also rescue other members of the pack. However, they need to work together in order to be successful. They need to operate as one.

Adelaide, knowing that she needs to put an end to Olento Research’s corrupted experiments, goes undercover working at its sister company, Parantaa Research. It’s as a new employee that she meets Mika Lenna, putting herself in a deadly position. As long as she maintains her cover then she can gain covert information and find out how to destroy Olento Research and its CEO.

However, Mika is tired of the Lucidites beating him. These are his werewolves. He’s the one who invested in creating them. And now the shareholders are pressuring him to deliver. That’s why he decides it’s time he sees the future, like the Lucidites. He needs to know where the next werewolf will be and when. And he needs a monster that can take them down.
The stakes are even higher in the third installment of the Olento Research series. The villains are more deadly. The heroes are growing stronger. But who will win? Beast, man or wolf?

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

This series keeps getting better and better the twist and turns have me going in all different directions. It is like keeping score one for the good guys, one for the bad guys, who is going to get the next one. The Lucidites and Olento Research are both out to find the werewolves. The cat and mouse game has me captivated.

Hunter is on a warpath trying to settle the score with those who did wrong by him. Only problem is he is leaving a path of carnage behind him. Adelaide went undercover to find out more about Olento and where it is located. Talk about nail biting couple of chapters….will she find the evidence she is looking for, will she find more than she bargained for….will she get caught by the ruthless evil Mika?

Seeing all these characters grow and find their place in the scheme of things is amazing.  I need to know more about Malcolm, Rio, Zephyr, Hunter, Rox, Conner, and yes even Kris the invisible girl. One of my favorite scenes is when Adelaide takes Lucien to the library. I have a feeling things are going to get worse before they get better. Waiting patiently for Bad Wolf because I need to know more.

A few of my favorites:

“You totally froze up there, Pound Puppy. You’re supposed to deflect attacks. Not stand like a fucking statue,”

Connor took his time running his eyes over Adelaide’s expression as she spoke. She was such a different sort than he’s ever met before. And he girl could produce illusions. She probably thought that people respected her because of her father. But he wasn’t impressed by her because of whom she was related to, but rather because she was like whom she was related to. Adelaide was the embodiment of all things Connor had heard about Ren Lewis. She was brave and mysterious and powerful and pulled it all off with the perfect degree of snarky indifference.

She instinctively felt that he could do many things with that stare. Maybe even put her back together.

“I think you’re responsible for killing the last Neanderthal. I always knew women were the death of men,” he said, standing up and towing the gigantic man off Rox.

He pressed his mouth to hers, breathing her in. Adelaide didn’t pull away. Didn’t want to. Instead she kissed him back, engrossed by the softness of his lips, of the taste of his mouth, at the thoughts that only spoke of how much he accepted her. Of how much he wanted her. Of how much he’d always wanted her. Since the beginning.

#NewRelease #YA #TwinsieFavoriteAuthor – Trust by Kylie Scott @KylieScottbooks

Trust

Being young is all about the experiences: the first time you skip school, the first time you fall in love…the first time someone holds a gun to your head.

After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen-year-old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.

While Edie’s beginning to run wild, however, John’s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he’s going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.

An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.

Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.

Trust is equal parts fearless, unflinching and authentic—and funny, honest and romantic. Is there anything Kylie Scott can’t do? This is an incredible entrance onto the YA scene, and will cement Kylie Scott as a must-read for anyone who picks it up.”—Amie Kaufman, New York Times bestselling author of The Illuminae Series

“Heart-pounding, realistic and wonderfully unique, Kylie Scott’s Trust held me captive, fascinated, and riveted to the page from start to finish. A MUST, simply incredible, read!” –Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author of Tycoon

Trust was an amazing journey that I could not put down! All of my favorite things: young love, a strong heroine, and an absolutely captivating hero, who’s both sexy and bad in alllll the right ways. Loved it!” –Penelope Douglas, New York Times bestselling author of the Fall Away Series

“The thing that will have readers flocking to this book isn’t the sex, or the premise, or Kylie Scott’s fine reputation…. [It’s] the authenticity. Readers will pick up Trust because the characters seem like real teenagers–they’re excitable and insecure and daggy and funny and immature and growing up.” –Ellie Marney, author of Every Breath

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

WHOA!!!  I have been a Kylie fan from the beginning, like right after she published Flesh beginnings. I have been lucky enough to read all her books through to Trust.  I have to say without a doubt, this book is my favorite.  I was literally blown away by the writing.  The depth of the story.  The emotion of the story.  It just blew me away.  Period.

I am a pretty rabid reader and will devour a book in a day or two but this one drew me. I slowly savored each and every page.  I loved the chemistry and angst of John and Edie.  The side characters were amazing…Hang is the best best friend ever.  Anders is the other best best friend a person could every want or need to but we aren’t talking about them right now.  But they are great additions to the story and help the main characters realize a lot about the other.  They kinda made you open your  eyes or give that literally throat punch to their friends about their “relationship.”

John and Edie would have never met had they not been in the wrong place at the wrong time.  They were both stuck in the convenient store when the robbery was happening.  The robbery changed everything for them both in that moment.

I thought John’s character was amazing.  The book is called for Trust for a reason.  He can’t trust anyone and they because of his past don’t trust him.  Edie has trust issues after the incident left her with people telling her business to others behind her back.  They are both thrown together and they originally form a weird friendship because of the shared experiences but soon begin to develop feelings for the other.  But given their “school status” they both think the other isn’t interested for whatever reason.

The book is a great read for people who may not be a big YA reader like myself.  Nothing against YA but its not my favorite genre to read.   This book will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat waiting for John and Edie to openly admit their feelings about each other.  It will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting for that first kiss and the many firsts that will follow…….

I received a copy of this book for an honest review via NetGalley.

I enjoy reading Kylie’s books but this one blew me away.  It is not like her other book but it left a mark on me. The opening chapters drew me in and my heart went out to all involved.  I had to keep going to find out what was going to happen and how everything was going to play out. For a YA book this was amazing and touched on so many tough topics which included bullies, sex, drugs and the struggles of the characters attempting to overcome a horrific event.

What do you do when a quick trip to the corner gas station turns your life upside down and inside out? For two it was a fight for their life and trying to figure out how and why they are still here.  My heart was in shambles watching Edie and John deal with it all.

Edie was the good girl that always did what she was told. She attended an all-girls school and was so close to her bestie. They shared everything. Edie life changed after she was held hostage by a crackhead and had a gun held to her head.  Kinda put things in perspective or so she thought. She was thankful to a stranger John who helped save her life.

John was a local drug dealer and didn’t take much seriously. But being at the corner store when it was being robbed and seeing people die will mess with a guys head and cause him to make some life changing decisions.

Due to both John and Edie trying to cope with what they went through they found that dealing with it together was the easiest thing to do.  Edie set to do all her first before her number was up after such a close call with death no matter if this caused her to do things she would normally not do. John decided he would help her out on all her firsts just to keep an eye on her and keep her from harm.  Mostly John wanted to make sure she was treated as she deserved to be and i think he enjoyed being a part of her firsts.

This book has the perfect title. From the beginning there is so much trust between people. Edie trusted John that he would help get them out of this situation they were in. Edie losing trust in people that new all her life secrets and selling out to make a few bucks. To Edie learn to attempt to trust those around her to not repeat the past. Now that John is making a change in his life he is learning who he can trust and who his real friends were.

The chemistry between John and Edie was amazing but besides these two there were their friends….Anders and Hang.  OMG Hang I absolutely loved her from the second she appeared in Edie’s life and what can I say about Anders he is the best friend everyone needs.  I said it once and I’ll say it again this is one of my favorites so far and I would love to know more about Anders and Hang.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

WOW another great book by Brandy L. Rivers. This is book 10 of Others of Edenton where Consuela and Declan are taking on Vampires and demons all while trying to figure out their connection to one another.

What does one do when they are struggling with guilt so big you don’t know how you will overcome it? Consuela is breaking down and Declan can feel her pain when he visits her in her dreams. Declan does the only thing he can by going to her to try and help. But how can she trust anyone after what she has been through? Declan and Consuela are in the middle of helping the Silver Council deal with a group of vampires that are playing a deadly game of Blood Bound.

This book has everything I went through so many emotions plus there was action and suspense. The love story between Declan and Consuela was genuine. I enjoyed being able to see all the different characters and love the way Brandy intertwines the characters and we get to see glimpses of them. My heart was absolutely broken after seeing what Amelia went through. I am so ready for the next book already.

A few of my favorites:

Staying away wasn’t and option. He sought her out every day he went to sleep, hoping to dampen the pain growing in her eyes.

The door shut and Declan pulled Consuela into his arms. “Tell me what you need.” She pushed him back and pulled her shirt over her head. “I have everything I need in front of me.”

#Review #ReleaseBoost – Before the Cherry Trees by H.D’Agostino

There are always those unexpected moments in our lives that make us realize that we aren’t in control.

I’ve known Sharron was it for me for as long as I can remember. We met when we were just kids, and fell in love. At eighteen when she told me she was pregnant, I did what I’d always planned to do… I asked her to marry me.

As the years passed by so did our dreams. We grew up fast, but our love never faltered. Our marriage was solid, and I thought we could survive anything… but I was wrong.

‘For better or worse’ is easier said than done. When you feel like everything is crumbling around you it’s easy to give up and walk away, at least it was for her.

I have no intention of letting her go. She’s my other half, and I know she can find her way back to me. I just need her to remember how we were before the cherry trees.

Oh Trev and Sharron!!  What a story.  What an emotional ride that love can take us on.

Trev and Sharron have been in love FOREVEAH!!  I mean as long as they can remember it’s been a “We”.  Do they regret it?  Nope but they had to rearrange their lives when a surprise hits them when they were young.  They have had everything and been so full of love until life throws them a curve ball.

This story is about the unbreakable ties of love.  No matter what when you love someone you are there for them.  Trever is there for Sharron to help her even when she pushes and pushes and pushes.  Does he get angry?  Yes.  Does he give in? Nope.  Sharron is going through a lot and she can’t help but push Trever away.  Is she happy? Nope.  Is she feeling guilty? Yup but she just can’t break out of what is happening.  When Trever’s brothers help to hatch a plan, the couple are forced to look at each other and fall back I love.  They have to remember what life was like BEFORE all the hard stuff.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Will and Stacey.  These 2 have been dancing around each other for the entire series so it’s about dang time they do something about it.

The backstory for both characters is so intense and hey fit together so perfectly.  Both are in love with the other but totally fear rejection.

When we see Will opening up to Stace about his family and his past, I just wanted to flipping hug him.  I wanted to be Stacey.  We still see her hiding her emotions about her past but we know her heart is with Will 110%.  The two make a big decision I was so happy about.  It was something simple but for these two, It was just so RIGHT!!   As the book is progressing, Will is sharing more and more and then right when Stacey is thinking her life is perfect, her past comes back and everything is changed…forever.

The story line for Stacey was scary and heartbreaking.  We see Will be her ever faithful alpha and stand by her side when she spills the beans on everything and everyone from her past.  Stacey finally got to see the Man of her dreams doing everything her mom told her a good man would do for her.

I liked the story and want more from the series for sure.    Side note, I totally love this book title as it fits Will to a “T”.
