To her, he’s a conceited and bossy obstacle . Both annoyed at this unavoidable situation, they agree to make the most of their predicament and try to co-exist in peace until their work is done. I received this book for the author for an honest review.

*Laughing super hard*  OMG I freaking love this series~!!  The banter and comedy is just too much.  Its real life bantering that I can see my husband having or banter with my bestie Melinda too.

I fell in love with Lindsey reading Whitney’s novel and couldn’t wait to read her book.  She is a total character and pretty much tells it like it is whether you want to hear it or not.  She gets the chance from her magazine to try and meet a famous author.  The magazine wants her to try and get an interview from a man notorious for NOT doing interviews.  If she can pull this off she will get a much deserved promotion.

Lindsey gets her friends keys to his Florida home and is shocked when the friend’s brother is also there.  He wasn’t supposed to be in town but they make an uneasy agreement to share the space.  When the agreement is made, Jay calls his friend and we learn secret number 1 of a few to come.

The couple are hilarious.  The banter made me giggle a lot.  The letters the couple begin to write each other are what makes the book.  However when in person, The hot and cold of Jayson to Lindsey made me wanna kick him in the butt but then we get to figuring out MORE secrets he has annnnd we can kinda see why.

I loved this story and can’t wait for more from these characters because they crack me up.

#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward delivers the second novel in her Bourbon Kings series—a sweeping saga of a Southern dynasty struggling to maintain a façade of privilege and prosperity, while secrets and indiscretions threaten its very foundation…

In Charlemont, Kentucky, the Bradford family is the crème de la crème of high society—just like their exclusive brand of bourbon. And their complicated lives and vast estate are run by a discrete staff who inevitably become embroiled in their affairs. This is especially true now, when the apparent suicide of the family patriarch is starting to look more and more like murder…

No one is above suspicion—especially the eldest Bradford son, Edward. The bad blood between him and his father is known far and wide, and he is aware that he could be named a suspect. As the investigation into the death intensifies, he keeps himself busy at the bottom of a bottle—as well as with his former horse trainer’s daughter. Meanwhile, the family’s financial future lies in the perfectly manicured hands of a business rival, a woman who wants Edward all to herself.

Everything has consequences; everybody has secrets. And few can be trusted. Then, at the very brink of the family’s demise, someone thought lost to them forever returns to the fold. Maxwell Bradford has come home. But is he a savior…or the worst of all the sinners?

EXCERPT:

Toyota trucks were not supposed to go seventy-five miles an hour. Especially when they were ten years old.

At least the driver was wide awake, even though it was four a.m.

Lizzie King had a death grip on the steering wheel, and her foot on the accelerator was actually catching floor as she headed for a rise in the highway.

She had woken up in her bed at her farmhouse alone. Ordinarily, that would have been the status quo, but not anymore, not now that Lane was back in her life. The wealthy playboy and the estate’s gardener had finally gotten their act together, love bonding two unlikelies closer and stronger than the molecules of a diamond.

And she was going to stand by him, no matter what the future held.

After all, it was so much easier to give up extraordinary wealth when you had never known it, never aspired to it—and especially when you had seen behind its glittering curtain to the sad, desolate desert on the far side of the glamour and prestige.

God, the stress Lane was under.

And so out of bed she had gotten. Down the creaking stairs she had gone. And all around her little house’s first floor she had wandered.

When Lizzie had looked outside, she’d discovered his car was missing, the Porsche he drove and parked beside the maple by her front porch nowhere to be seen. And as she had wondered why he had left without telling her, she had begun to worry.

Just a matter of nights since his father had killed himself, only a matter of days since William Baldwine’s body had been found on the far side of the Falls of the Ohio. And ever since then Lane’s face had had a faraway look, his mind churning always with the missing money, the divorce papers he had served on the rapacious Chantal, the status of the household bills, the precarious situation at the Bradford Bourbon Company, his brother Edward’s terrible physical condition, Miss Aurora’s illness.

But he hadn’t said a thing about any of it. His insomnia had been the only sign of the pressure, and that was what scared her. Lane always made an effort to be composed around her, asking her about her work in Easterly’s gardens, rubbing her bad shoulder, making her dinner, usually badly, but who cared. Ever since they had gotten the air cleared between them and had fully recommitted to their relationship, he had all but moved into her farmhouse—and as much as she loved having him with her, she had been waiting for the implosion to occur.

It would almost have been easier if he had been ranting and raving.

And now she feared that time had come—and some sixth sense made her terrified about where he had gone. Easterly, the Bradford Family Estate, was the first place she thought of. Or maybe the Old Site, where his family’s bourbon was still made and stored. Or perhaps Miss Aurora’s Baptist church?

Yes, Lizzie had tried him on his phone. And when the thing had rung on the table on his side of the bed, she hadn’t waited any longer after that. Clothes on. Keys in hand. Out to the truck.

No one else was on I-64 as she headed for the bridge to get across the river, and she kept the gas on even as she crested the hill and hit the decline to the river’s edge on the Indiana side. In response, her old truck picked up even more speed along with a death rattle that shook the wheel and the seat, but the damn Toyota was going to hold it together because she needed it to.

“Lane . . . where are you?”

God, all the times she had asked him how he was and he’d said, “Fine.” All those opportunities to talk that he hadn’t taken her up on. All the glances she’d shot him when he hadn’t been looking her way, all the time her monitoring for signs of cracking or strain. And yet there had been little to no emotion after that one moment they’d had together in the garden, that private, sacred moment when she had sought him out under the blooms of the fruit trees and told him that she’d gotten it wrong about him, that she had misjudged him, that she was prepared to make a pledge to him with the only thing she had: the deed to her farmhouse—which was exactly the kind of asset that could be sold to help pay for the lawyers’ fees as he fought to save his family.

Lane had held her, and told her he loved her—and refused her gift, explaining he was going to fix everything himself, that he was going to somehow find the stolen money, pay back the enormous debt, right the company, resurrect his family’s fortunes.

And she had believed him.

She still did.

But ever since then? He had been both as warm and closed off as a space heater, physically present and completely disengaged at the same time.

Lizzie did not blame him in the slightest.

It was strangely terrifying, however.

Off in the distance, across the river, Charlemont’s business district glowed and twinkled, a false, earthbound galaxy that was a lovely lie, and the bridge that connected the two shores was still lit up in spring green and bright pink for Derby, a preppy rainbow to that promised land. The good news was that there was no traffic, so as soon as Lizzie was on the other side, she could take the River Road exit off the highway, shoot north to Easterly’s hill, and see if his car was parked in front of the mansion.

Then she didn’t know what she was going to do.

The newly constructed bridge had three lanes going in both directions, the concrete median separating east from west tall and broad for safety purposes. There were rows of white lights down the middle, and everything was shiny, not just from the illumination, but a lack of exposure to the elements. Construction had only finished in March, and the first lines of traffic had made the crossing in early April, cutting rush-hour delays down—

Up ahead, parked in what was actually the “slow” lane, was a vehicle that her brain recognized before her eyes properly focused on it.

Lane’s Porsche. It was Lane’s—

Lizzie nailed the brake pedal harder than she’d been pounding the accelerator, and the truck made the transition from full-force forward to full-on stop with the grace of a sofa falling out a second-story window: Everything shuddered and shook, on the verge of structural disintegration, and worse, there was barely any change in velocity, as if her Toyota had worked too hard to gain the speed and wasn’t going to let the momentum go without a fight—

There was a figure on the edge of the bridge. On the very farthest edge of the bridge. On the lip of the bridge over the deadly drop.

“Lane,” she screamed. “Lane!”

Her truck went into a spin, pirouetting such that she had to wrench her head around to keep him in her sights. And she jumped out before the Toyota came to a full stop, leaving the gearshift in neutral, the engine running, the door open in her wake.

“Lane! No! Lane!”

Lizzie pounded across the pavement and surmounted barriers that seemed flimsy, too flimsy, given the distance down to the river.

Lane jerked his head around—

And lost one hold of the rail behind him.

As his grip slipped, shock registered on his face, a flash of surprise . . . that was immediately replaced by horror.

When he fell off into nothing but air.

Lizzie’s mouth could not open wide enough to release her scream.

The Thief Steals Her Earl

synopsis

Following the passing of his father and an unforgivable act by a family member ending in near ruin for his family, Simon Montgomery, the new Earl of Cartwright, is forced to return home without finishing his education. However, that doesn’t stop Cart from absorbing every morsel of knowledge he can.

Unfortunately, doing so and applying his every moment to restoring his family’s lost heirlooms while seeing to his sister’s upbringing and attempting to wrangle his mother’s frivolous spending habits has made him somewhat of a recluse, a man unsure of how to live life unless it’s focused around academia, order, and routine. But what happens when Cart is faced with a woman as intelligent as he but far more cunning?

Miss Judith Pengarden has lived her entire life under her eldest sister’s firm yet loving guidance. When she discovers her family is in jeopardy of losing their home, Jude decides to use her skills to help them pay off their unsettled debts. However, when Jude attempts to steal from the wrong house, she finds herself alone, locked in a dank room at the night watchman’s residence, and she vows to stop thinking so spontaneously and risking her family’s name to scandal. Unfortunately, there are some loose ends that need to be tied up before she can. Luckily for her, however, she may have just met the man who can help her family and also steal a piece of her heart.

When Jude meets Lord Cartwright at a London garden party, he seems the perfect man to solve all her problems—a recluse unfamiliar with London Society and studied in antiquities. A lord like none she has met, Jude soon realizes that Cart is more valuable to her than any painting, sculpture, or vase. But when she’s caught in possession of Cart’s long-lost family heirloom, completely unaware of what it really means, can she convince him that things are far from what they seem? That despite the deceit and subterfuge, her heart is in the right place. With her family…and with him.

angies review

I received this book from the author for an honest review.  I really toiled with my rating in this book.  I mean is it a 4.5 or 5.  I was just back and forth. Then I went back and reread a scene…Christina will know…the Door scene…..yep it still gutted me so 5 stars it is.

AHHH!!   OMG If you would have told me before reading this book I would be dumping Harold, from The Lady Forsaken Series, I would have said you are cray cray…GASP…however Harold I think we may need to take a little break so I can see how I am feeling about Lord Cartwright/Cart.  No hard feelings right???

Lord Cartwright/Simon/Cart is so unlike any hero that Christina has written before.  He is so nerdy and awkward but I fell in love with him.    He is the person at a gathering with their nose stuck in a book.  He is unsure of himself socially and really could care less about breaking a Ton rule.  He is just after getting his family Earldom back in the right financial shape it should be after being stolen from by his uncle.

Judith/Jude wants to help her sister Marce but knows Marce will not have any of that.  Her and her twin steal a vase to hopefully sell for money.  This money she will give to her sister to call off the debtors who keep sending final collection notices.

When Jude and Cart meet, they are both thrown together and thought that they might just “tolerate” the others company but they actually get along.  Then something happens to Cart and he gets upset at himself for making a fool out of himself. When any other Ton woman would have run away, Jude stays to help him.

The two are so similar and they both love art.  Granted he loves to find it and she loves to steal it…Snickers…..but I just loved how put out she makes him.  She makes him feel alive and actually interested in life again.  I love how he uses scientific data to tell us the readers how he feels about Jude.  I love how she is so confused because she is guilted by why she is friending him yet also she is so consumed with spending as much time with him as she can

The side characters are amazing.  Sam I wanna throat punch.  Payton just needs a hug.  Garret *purr* needs to find the right woman.  THEO!!  OMG she steals the book!!  LOVE HER!!  But I am telling you …Christina is going to make us wait until the very last to know about Marce!  I FREAKING need to know about her!!  I am consumed with the need to know!!!  AHHHHH,………….

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I loved Gillian’s zombie series so when I saw she has a new series starting, I jumped.  This book is a totally different concept for me and it also intrigued me.  I mean working for Karma, Inc. You are the person who will be dishing out the bad karma we all want people to get served….awesome right???

Cassie wakes up and is given a choice…Limbo or working in the Afterlife.  Well who wants Limbo right?  She takes the Afterlife job and the sub company, Karma Inc.  She is a bit distressed because she can’t remember anything about her life.  Now most people can remember their life but not their death.  Plus Cassie finds out she was being “processed” a lot longer than most people ……hrmmm…..

The story is told in mainly present tense but we do see flashbacks of Cassie getting processed and the parts of her life start to come back to her while she is working her first Karma case.  We can see her figuring stuff out while also secretly investigating her life and death.

Now I will say the beginning of the story was a bit slow BUT that is because we are setting up the world Cassie will be a part of.  We had to get to know the ins and outs of the Afterlife. SO if you give it a few chapters to get things going the rest of the book flies.  The end of the book left me saying YES because I wanted to know what her investigator was going to uncover for her in the next book.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Clapping my hands!!  I am loving these characters and different sports themes series.  I haven’t read many, if any, sports theme characters so this book was awesome for me.  I feel like I read more Shifter paranormal or MC books.  SO this was a great and nice departure for me to read.

Ainsley is a girl without any help in life.  You wanna talk about given a crappy life but still made something out of herself and still striving for more and better!!!  She is taking on 2 jobs, raising her teen age sister and trying to finish nursing school.  Meeting a boy or even dating are far off her list of things to do.  When she meets a cocky guy at one her many jobs, she is overly annoyed with is sexual come-ons and rich boy persona.

Cade has lived the life of privilege.  He has money and since he is a star athlete he gets a lot of attention for being him.  He can have any girl and they sure don’t ever turn him down…I mean he is CADE!!!  When he gets into trouble and is getting talked to by his parents, he is stunned the waitress isn’t all over him.  Doesn’t she know he is number 23.  I gotta admit.  I thought Cade was a mega DB and was high fiving Ainsley for rebuffing him.

As the story continues, Cade runs into Ainsley again.  This time he SEES her for what she is…different and he is really intrigued in what makes him want to get to know her.  The couple being navigating around dating while dealing with skeletons they both have in their closet.  Cade’s secret send his girl off the deep end.  I was kinda annoyed with her for her over reaction and then she over reacts again in the end of the book.  Yes I get what she has been thought and was glad Mica was there to kick her butt into gear.  Cade most definitely does redeem himself from my original  beginning thoughts about hm.  Sierra definitely let us, the reader, see his growth in the book.

I am super excited to read Mica and Lance.  That books is going to be a good one I can already tell!!!

angies review

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I love a good 2nd chance romance.  I mean nothing is better than when the one that got away comes back right???

This book was told in a really interesting perspective.  It starts in the present but immediately it flashes us back to the past when Chloe ad Nash where younger.  Through the first few chapters we see their friendship grow and blossom into love.  Then the book cuts backs the present and we are with our couple now….apart…and unhappy!!

Chloe has had a rough life from the death of her father, literal abandonment of her mother after her father’s death and the treatment of her step-father.  The only light in her life is Nash and his family.  Chloe’s character seems a little too naïve for me.  There were parts of the story that were a bit of a stretch for me as a reader….her lack of sexual knowledge during her teens years but mainly her adult internal radar seems off.  She was too trusting for someone who has had lot of emotional and physical abuse even when her red internal flags are going off.

Nash has loved Chloe his entire life.  She is the one and he never understood what happened.  He is really angry, hurtful and bitter when he sees her but won’t stop perusing her.  I liked Nash and seems a bit more open to his character.  When he finds out Chloe is being hurt he does everything he can to help her.  Even after being apart for many years, when Chloe is attacked his first thoughts of her are and needs.

The story was good and I would read another novel from the author if presented and I have the time..LOL.  A bloggers work is never done.

I have been a writer all my life. My first book, which was co-written with Mary Ellen Murphey in second grade, was titled The Black Cat, and was written on blue hotel stationary, hole-punched, and bound by white yarn. I believe it is currently out of circulation.
When I turned forty, I had an epiphany of sorts. I realized those bigwig publishing houses in New York were now probably run by people younger than me, so I shouldn’t be intimidated by them. At about the same time I was watching one of those award shows, and Jaclyn Smith got up to give a post-humorous award to Aaron Spelling. She credited him for encouraging her to go into acting, saying something brilliant like, “Reach for your dreams.” Nothing new. Almost even seems a little Jiminy Cricketish. But, for some reason, it struck me that night. When Aaron Spelling was thirteen, he was probably just like any other acned thirteen-year-old. But he worked to achieve his dreams, and became a household name. So, I began to write. Once I finished my first book, I wasn’t able to stop. I would rather write than do just about anything else. After all, you get to make people (characters) do what you want and design your own happy endings. What power! What a privilege.

Embracing My Submission (The Doms of Genesis, #1)

synopsis

Haunted for years by dreams of a savage, amber eyed Dominant with lips so enticing my soul ached in frustration and lust. None of the Dominants at Genesis, my local BDSM club ever stirred me in such blistering ways. While I tried to fill my submissive desires vicariously through interactions at the club, I attempted to convince myself it was enough. But it wasn’t. My dream Dom made certain I hungered for more.

Forced beyond what I could bear, my passion and frustration exploded. I threw in the towel, determined to stop chasing a dream and gave up completely on finding submissive surrender. But fate intervened when two gunshots split the night. Forced to confront my desires and insecurities, I was shocked to realize that my dreams may have held a deeper meaning. Were they compelling me to finally embrace my submission?

angies review

I bought this book because I have met this awesome lady at signings and read several other books of her but not this series.

I am a fan of the genre of BDSM and so the “on- click” option was an easy one to make.  I grabbed it and sat down one morning for a quick and enjoyable read.  The story is about Emerald/Julianna who has had a fake Dom in her life before.  She joins the club and has been a submissive for over 4 years.  She is under the protection of Drake/Moses to help guide and care for her until she is claimed by the “one”.  She is a mess!!!  She wants love and each day gets more and more broken over never being chosen.  She knows she is a strong willed brat but the fact no one shows interest makes her begin to self-doubt in her true calling.

Mika is the quiet owner of the club.  He lost his one and only slave Vanessa years ago.  He is open the club to help others find the one but knows he had his and is never to love again.  When something happens to Emerald, Mika goes crazy!!  Little does the bratty sub know but Mika has been watching and wanting her for years!!  Say WHAT!!

The story is about all they have to go through to be together.  They have to deal with his denial, her attack, her feelings of inadequacy and his strong desire to Master her.  My favorite part of the book hands down was her having a tantrum at his office door in the club…omg I laughed sooo darn hard….Great and Powerful OZ!!!  LOL!!!  I also really liked the element of who was driving the two together in the story.  It is hard to let go of the past when you see a future you want but are scared nd guilty to want.

#Review – Dead (Nicki Sosebee #2) by Jade C. Jamison

synopsis

 Nicki Sosebee’s adventures continue…

Nicki’s love life might suck, but her sex life is great. The only way both could be spectacular would be if her best friend Sean would look at her as more than just a friend. Nicki knows she’s stuck in the friend zone, so she focuses her energies on her job. She’s becoming a better reporter every day, so when her editor asks her to interview a local politician, Nicki is thrilled. But when the politician’s secretary ends up dead, it’s anybody’s guess as to who did it. Nicki has a few ideas, though, and finds herself in deep trouble as she pokes her nose where she thinks it belongs.

Nicki Sosebee is a strong woman who’s not afraid to go after what she wants, whether it’s a man or a story. She’s tough and her mouth shows it. She’s a free spirit and feels no need to apologize for who she is or what she believes in. DEAD is #2 in the Nicki Sosebee series.

Warning: Not for the faint of heart! This book contains explicit sex and naughty language. Proceed with caution…if you dare.

Melinda's Review

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I am enjoying this series the suspense and drama is great. Each story you follow one of Nicki’s news leads and where they lead her you have no idea and the predicaments she ends up in can be nail biting. Not only do you follow her news leads but you get to see into her personal life too. Yes, we get to see more of Sean *sigh* OH sorry I was day dreaming and drooling over him for a minute Sean is one sexy man.  Oh OK back to the review.

Nicki is looking into a murder of a not so nice woman that Nicki just so happened to know from High School. All fingers are pointing to one man the woman’s boss well in Nicki’s eyes anyway that is who the finger is pointing too. The local Politician invites Nicki to the Hoity Toity event he is putting on to prove there was nothing going on between them. Boy Nicki doesn’t hold back asking questions of the quest at this big affair and while there she sees Sean’s friend Jesse. Wow if Sean’s not careful he may have someone giving him a run for his money after those steamy kisses.

I so love Nicki and her no hold bar attitude no matter it be with men or her job she goes after what she wants no backing down. She is one smart tough cookie. I cannot wait to read more Nicki, see were her next writing adventure takes her, and how the whole Nicki/Sean/Jesse thing goes.

about the author

Jade C. Jamison was born and raised in Colorado and has decided she likes it enough to stay forever. Jade’s day job is teaching Creative Writing, but teaching doesn’t stop her from doing a little writing herself.

Unfortunately, there’s no one genre that quite fits her writing. Her work has been labeled romance, erotica, suspense, and women’s fiction, and the latter is probably the safest and closest description. But you’ll see that her writing doesn’t quite fit any of those genres.

You’ll have to discover Jade’s writing for yourself to decide if you like it.
