#NewRelease – Cord’s Chance by Lindsay Cross

Cord’s Chance by Lindsay Cross

Cover Design: Kari March Designs

Release Date: June 12, 2018

He thought he was done. His career as a special forces sniper was over. He’d lost his leg and his dignity in that ambush. Now, after nearly a year of rehab, he was fighting the toughest battle in his life: prove he was still worthy to serve.

His chance:

Contract with a security firm to pull protection for a rancher by the name of Sam Bishop. If he succeeded in routing out the bad guy, Cord would be back on the team.

The bonus:

He’d be able to get the hell away from all the counselors and therapists trying to tell him how to come to grips with his PTSD and missing limb. There were no emotions and feelings in west Texas, just rough necks and grit. Exactly what he needed.

The catch:

Sam’s real name is Samantha and she’s not a codgy old man – she’s the one girl from Cord’s past he never got over. He thought he’d lost his chance with her, and now that he wasn’t a whole man, he didn’t deserve her.

Samantha is determined to show Cord he’s everything she ever wanted. Her biggest battle isn’t the stalker threatening her life: it’s making Cord see he’s worthy of her love and so much more.

KEEP ME CLOSE by Cynthia P. O’Neill is LIVE!
NOW AVAILABLE FOR A SPECIAL, INTRODUCTORY PRICE OF 99CENTS!
I’ve always been driven to succeed at everything I’ve tried. I graduated secondary school at age thirteen, earned a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at sixteen, and finished my medical residency at twenty-two. My focus as Dr. Galen Hunter Christensen has been traveling the world to give medical care to people in remote villages…until now.

Sierra Jade Evans has pulled me into her orbit. This last year I’ve been preoccupied with finding ways to talk with her, wanting to know everything about her. Our likes and dislikes are almost identical, and the differences only complement our personalities, but we do have two problems: Her ability to trust has been shaken, and she’s hung up on being six years my senior.

Fate finally led us to spend one night exploring what could be, before sending us separate directions. But now I’m back.
I have an unquenchable thirst for Sierra—the only woman to ever fill the void in my life and not object to my dominance and kinky desires. I know I’ll have to work a miracle to gain her trust, but I’ll do anything to keep her close and make her mine.

EXCERPT

I broke away from his contact and walked toward the window, needing a moment to clear my mind and gather my strength. His kisses had thoroughly left me breathless and weak-kneed. I watched as an inbound plane lined up its approach and inched closer to the ground for a landing.

Looking into the window a little more carefully, I could see my reflection. I was taken aback at how swollen my lips had become from the intensity of his kisses. I jumped when I noticed Galen’s presence behind me.

His eyes met mine in the reflection. He eased toward me but I didn’t run. I’m not sure that I could have if I wanted to. “What’s keeping you from giving in to your desires, Sierra? You would not be here with me now if you didn’t want to take this further. You can’t deny what exists between us, and neither can I.”

His arms came around my waist. I’d resisted his charms for the past few hours, but his continued soft caresses and chaste kisses against my shoulders and neck were driving me insane, not to mention his smoldering eyes and the to-die-for British accent. “Age is but a number, love. You need to get out of your head and give yourself permission to take what you want, what you need. Don’t deny our chemistry. The sparks surrounding us are enough to start a fire; one I can assure you will burn brighter than you’ve ever felt in your life.”

Lyssa Layne’s: Roses With Thorns–Robby and Jordan were destined for one another, soulmates meant to never be separated but their love story didn’t begin at hello. Robby patiently waited for Jordan, trading in trains for horses. Once she turned eighteen, their love story was on the fast track as the two became adults together on the freight train of love as life began to unfold.

Robin Deeter’s: The Silver Bell Shifter–Riley Flowers moves to Wolf Junction, Nebraska, and is intensely drawn to shy, sexy Calvin Lightfoot. Calvin’s been burned by lost love before, and he’s not willing to chance it again–until Riley enters his life. He wants her for his own, but will she be able to accept the shifter side of him and come to love the man within?

Ann Anders’: My Forever Sugar–In my wildest dreams I never thought I’d marry a rancher. In my defense, I hadn’t met Tucker James yet. He asked. I said yes. Love at first sight is easy. His family… not so much…

Paty Jager’s: The Wrong Cowboy to Love–Ruby Cutter allows her cousin, the bride, to give her a makeover for the upcoming wedding because she wants to catch the attention of her high school crush. But while she’s infatuated with one man, she may be falling for another…

and D’Ann Lindun’s: Her Taylor Made Cowboy–As a successful model, Taylor Griffin hated being judged for her looks. Moving behind the lens helps but most men still only see her as arm candy. Waylon Wainwright is smitten with the tall, blonde photographer but can he prove he sees beyond her beauty to the woman underneath?

Goodreads

Amazon

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

GAH!  When Lyssa offered to let me read this book I was excited because I always love her men…they are extra lickable.  I admit I wondered how she was going to tell a love story of a 14 year-old and a 20 year-old but she did it well.

Jordan and Robby meet when she is visiting her brother from another mother during his first college baseball game.  The dynamic of the two was sweet and innocent.  Robby thought she was sweet and going to be an amazing girl when she got older.

Jumping forward a couple of years we see Robby NOTICING the young woman Jor has become but also knowing it is inappropriate to do anything given her age.  But everything changes in the blink of an eye when Abram is hurt.  Robby and Jor spend the summer together where love starts to blossom.

As the story jumps for ward in time, we see them falling more and more in love but also realizing they have a lot to accomplish to be together.  They always work toward building a life together and having the HEA everyone wants.  If you know this is a prequal to a story you KNOW what happens to our couple and their happiness.  If NOT, then I won’t spill any of the beans so you read it and then run to down load Until You Fall to get the ending of this story.

Lyssa Layne is first, and foremost, the proud momma to her precious daughter, AR. In addition to working full-time and being a mommy to AR, she is also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, a runner, blogger, and an infertility survivor.

Having watched one too many medical dramas and being inspired by author Rachelle Ayala, who introduced her to the world of indie writing, Lyssa decided to try her hand at writing a romance story. Her attempt turned into the Burning Lovesick series. You can find Lyssa’s own interests throughout her stories although all stories are fictional.

Title: Legends: Catori

Author: Maggie Adams

Series: Legends

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Release Date: June 1, 2018

It’s hard to keep secrets in a small town…

It’s even harder to keep a secret that could expose not only your family, but an entire species. That’s what Frankie Cavanaugh must do. As the daughter of the leader of the Wisdom Counsel, it’s up to her to step into her father’s shoes until another leader is chosen.

It’s also up to her to continue her lineage within the species.

She wants to do neither. She considers the shifter gene a curse rather than a gift, robbing her of a normal life. Unfortunately, the Counsel doesn’t see it that way and is determined to wed her to their next leader – by force, if necessary.

Tanner Coalson is fresh out of college and ready to tackle whatever life has in store for him. First item on his to-do list is marrying the woman he has loved for years. He knows Frankie will baulk at the notion because she’s fifteen years older and was his childhood sitter. He’s no longer a young boy, but a man who is determined to win her heart, and he is prepared to do just that.

But convincing her they are destined to be together gets much harder when she is kidnapped by an old enemy. In order to survive, Frankie may have to reveal her secret, and Tanner may have to accept what seems impossible, or reject the love of his life.

Talon Cavanaugh stood on the grassy knoll above the cemetery, watching the procession as it wound through the cracked tombstones to the final resting place of the Wisdom Council’s leader, Leonard Cavanaugh. He smiled in satisfaction as the urn was laid into the dirt pit next to where his human wife would someday reside. Soon, he thought, soon all would be in place and he could claim his birthright.

“Son, I know how much you loved your uncle. Are you sure you don’t want to go down and join in the ceremony?” his father asked.

Well, the man he had called ‘father’ for most of his life, inquired. It was only on his mother, Sylvia’s, death bed, that Talon had learned the truth. He was the son of Leonard Cavanaugh, the owl leader of the Wisdom Council, who had died never knowing he had fathered a son. Sylvia had wanted to ensure the bloodline stayed pure when it became apparent that the old fool was planning to wed that woman, Paige, an inferior human. Sylvia had slipped a potion into his wine as the family celebrated her engagement to the leader’s brother, Lester, Talon’s assumed father.  Leonard Cavanaugh had mated with Sylvia that night, the potion making him hallucinate that he was with his beloved Paige.  Sylvia’s plan worked, and she gave birth to Talon, who was a pureblood shifter, keeping the bloodline intact.

Glancing over his shoulder, Talon shook his head in the negative at Lester. He had no need to go down there. He was the true heir to the leadership position of the Council. He knew the death procedure –  one year of grieving for the widow and the family. He looked to Frankie Cavanaugh. She was a beautiful woman, despite her human blood. Her red hair glowed like flames in the sunlight. She was appropriately dressed in black, her cultural brooch, made of gold and the feathers of her father, pinned to her breast. She was crying quietly into a handkerchief, hugging her mother, in solace. It was almost a pity she would have to die, but there could only be one true leader.

And that position would be filled by him.

Maggie Adams is an Amazon Best Selling contemporary romance author. Her first book in the Tempered Steel Series, Whistlin’ Dixie, debuted in Amazon’s Top 100 for Women’s Fiction, humor, on November, 2014. Since then, she has consistently made the Amazon best seller 5-star list with Leather and Lace, Something’s Gotta Give, and Love, Marriage & Mayhem. She is also the recipient of the Dayreader Review’s Best New Series Award for 2015. Her series has launched the tiny town of Grafton, Illinois, into International recognition with sales in Mexico, Ireland, Scotland, Australia and the UK.

Back home, she resides in the Midwest, with her high school sweetheart, Ned, and their children, Katie (Kyle) and Ross (Valerie) and first granddaughter, Lorelei, otherwise known as “The Boss”

#NewRelease – The House by Jo Michaels

Title: The House
Author: Jo Michaels
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Editor: Tia Silverthorne Bach with INDIE Books Gone Wild
Publication Date: June 4th, 2018
This house is cursed, and everyone who lives there is in grave danger.
Ever wonder what stories you’d hear if walls could talk?
What if those walls witnessed unimaginable horrors?
Inside these pages is the story of one such house. What it sees, the people it meets, and what happens when a terrified spirit is invited to stay.
Story 1 – The Butcher
Story 2 – Marna, Fred, and Kimberly McDade
Story 3 – Lacy Mae Ritter
Story 4 – Mark and Olivia Cullpepper
Story 5 – The Writer
The House is a collection of short stories that ties in with the Pen Pals and Serial Killers series by Jo Michaels. You’ll find a couple of those characters named, and discover how one grew the teeth he used on the women he captured later.
Spoiler alert! You need to read Intensification (Pen Pals and Serial Killers, #3) before you read The House.
Jo Michaels is…
Hi, I’m Jo. Let’s forget all the “Jo Michaels is blah, blah, blah” stuff and just go with it. I’m a voracious reader (often reading more than one book at a time), a writer, a book reviewer, a mom, a wife, and one of the EICs at INDIE Books Gone Wild. I have an almost photographic memory and tend to make people cringe at the number of details I can recall about them and/or their book(s). My imagination follows me around like a conjoined twin and causes me to space out pretty often or laugh out loud randomly in completely inappropriate situations.
I have a degree in graphic design, and my journey to the end was one few students who begin that program ever complete. However, this was one case where my memory and OCD tendencies helped me. Graduation was one of the most amazing days of my life. But, my most amazing day was when my now husband proposed. Every little girl dreams of being Cinderella someday, and he pulled off the proposal of fantasies.
At the risk of sounding cliché, I’m going to let it out there and say how much I absolutely adore the man I’m married to. Along with my children, he’s my whole world.
I’ve lived in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia, but I’ve had my feet in almost every state. Traveling is something I adore, and have plans to someday see the Mongolia I’ve written about in Yassa.
One of my favorite things is hearing from fans! You can find me on social media most any day of the week. Connect! I’d love to hear from you.
Intensification: https://amzn.to/2HTpMk4
Story 1 – The Butcher
My yellow paint; pretty, white shutters; and pristine porch were sullied by the first man who dwelt here. I call him The Butcher, but his name was Butch Campion, and he was thirty-seven. His face is one I’ll never forget, and the atrocities he committed are things I still shudder to think about. We met one month after I was born. He walked in, so proud and full of himself, his feet sending vibrations through my floorboards as he tromped through, checking every room like he was planning to bring a whole family in and bring them up. I thought we’d get along famously and was looking forward to warming the feet of small children as they played.
Once the papers were signed, and I was his property, things went well for a month or so. He’d go to work, come home, sit on the threadbare couch, and drink beer. To my chagrin, he didn’t seem to have a wife or children, so there was nothing for me to do during the day except sit here.
It was after that first month that I started to figure he might not be my ideal owner after all. My lawn was never cared for, and the ivy growing nearby was allowed to spring up, threatening to take over the cute porch the builders thought to add. Butch would go out and bring home booze of some kind, cigarettes, and fast food. He never cooked, and he left wrappers and empty boxes all over the place, making me smell like a trash can. Roaches scuttled in, intent on a good meal, and he’d squish the ones he saw, leaving their carcasses to decompose where they met their gruesome end.

#WOTR18 #Review #ReleaseDay – His Mimosa (The Cocktail Girls) by Jamie Schlosser

His Mimosa (The Cocktail Girls)

Carter doesn’t believe in love at first sight or happily ever after. When he goes to Vegas for his brother’s bachelor party, the last thing he expects is Brynne, the beautiful cocktail waitress who nurses his hangover with a drink just as bubbly and sweet as she is.

Brynne’s optimism and unfailing faith in love is a breath of fresh air, and it makes him think maybe he’s had it wrong all along.

They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. And Carter’s heart? It might be taking up permanent residence there.

***This Vegas-themed standalone novella is releasing June 1st, 2018!***

Goodreads

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Oh this book!!!  I loved each character so much and the fact it was an insta-love so didn’t bother me at all.  Carter and Brynne so were perfect for each other.  She opened his eyes to what Love really is despite what he grew up seeing.  He taught her that jumping in feet first can burn you, but sometimes good things can actually happen for you.

Carter is such a grumpy old man…LOL  He is so jaded and being a total party pooper for his brother Vegas Bachelor party.  I mean who wants to hear the best man say you are an idiot for getting married????  Not most grooms or brides for that fact.

Brynne has lived and grown up in Vegas.  She is over the glitz of the city and just living for the fun and excitement.  When she sees a hottie, she jumps in feet first hoping for some fun not knowing her heart was going to be rocked on the best if ways.

The story was so sweet at times which made Carter open his eyes to WHAT he is missing out. The books is also super sexy when Carter and Brynne get to “getting to know each other” a little better!!!

She grew up on a farm in Illinois surrounded by cornfields. Although she no longer lives in the country, her dream is to return to rural living someday. As a stay-at-home mom, she spends most of her days running back and forth between her two wonderful kids and her laptop. She loves her family, iced coffee, and happily-everafters

Still wrestling with the trauma but finally out of the limelight, Lei and Emma are now devoted to helping other victims find closure. But most disturbing for Lei—beyond the gut-wrenching survivor guilt—is that the killer was her boyfriend. He’s behind bars, but she’ll never lower her guard again.

When a copycat killer targets Lei and Emma, FBI Agent Dante Young is put in charge of anticipating the sociopath’s every move. But what he doesn’t expect is his immediate and overpowering attraction to Lei. The closer they get to each other, the more desperate and terrifying the questions become: Who wants to finish what the killer started—and why?

Now Agent Young vows to protect Lei at all costs. If they have any chance of a future together, first they have to stay alive…

Lei couldn’t breathe. Her chest closed painfully as if she’d been knocked flat on her back, and her lungs burned with the need for oxygen. Somewhere in the tiny rational corner of her mind, she knew there was nothing really wrong with her, but rational thought had no place in the midst of her panic.

He’s back. Emma was right all along and he’s coming for us.

Stop.

You’re spiraling.

Travis Berkley is still in jail. This is a copycat, and no matter how bad a copycat is, he can’t be worse than Travis. You survived before. You will this time, too.

A whine cut through her thoughts, and then Saul was there, nudging her hand with his cool nose. She inhaled sharply, suddenly aware that everyone in the room was staring at her. The Feds had the blank-slate expression she’d come to associate with cops when they were in a difficult situation. Emma looked at her as if she was on the verge of her own panic attack.

Lei stroked her hand over Saul’s head, forming a wall of indisputable facts in her mind to keep the fear at bay. She wasn’t twenty-one anymore, only a couple of years out of the stifling family home she’d grown up on, still drunk on freedom and the realization that she could do anything she wanted to with her future.

She’d been an idiot. A child who was playing dress-up without realizing the pitfalls of adulthood.

Though most pitfalls don’t come attached to a knife.

Lei wasn’t that girl anymore. She’d seen the worst Travis Berkley could offer and had the scars to show for it. She could shoot. She could fight. She’d worked with enough cops over the course of her career as a trainer and search team that she had an inside view to how their minds worked.

She would not lose herself to terror.

Another stroke to Saul’s head and she was able to speak. “How close to the original murders are the details?”

Agent Young exchanged a glance with his partner and leaned forward, bracing his elbows on his knees. His big hands dangled between his legs, and she distantly noted that he had really firm thighs beneath the expensive slacks. He spoke slowly, as if gauging her response. “We haven’t had a chance to check the original case files, but the big details are almost identical. The murders were performed in the same way—girls kept in a main room and taken out individually. We think he snuck in through a window, because their condo was on the second floor and he used a knife from the kitchen.”

She could almost hear Travis’s voice in her head, even after all these years. Let me in, Lei-Lei. I have a surprise for you. Stupid. She’d been so incredibly stupid, swayed by a pretty face and a boy her parents would approve of who made her feel. Smart, athletic, the right dollar amount in his family’s bank account. Someone bright and colorful and checking all the right boxes.

Since she couldn’t bring herself to ask if one of the girls let him in, she focused on the rest. “If this is a fan, he must have been in contact with Travis at some point.” She put her hand on Emma’s leg when her friend flinched at his name. The Feds didn’t react, which made her sigh. “But you already knew that. You don’t need me telling you how to do your job. What is it you need?”

Another loaded look between them. They’d obviously been partners for a long time, because they managed to convey an entire conversation’s worth of talking in a single look.

Again, it was Agent Young who took the lead. “We can find the details of the case easily enough, along with your accounts, but what I’d like to know is your take on Travis.”

“Because I dated him.” She stated it baldly, as if the fact she’d slept with a murderer was something she’d dealt with and moved on from. As if the fact didn’t still keep her up at night, moving beneath her skin until she wanted to take a wire brush to her body. There weren’t enough hot showers and bleach baths in the world to change the fact she’d willingly been with him. She could never take that back.

“Because you—both of you—have known him longer than anyone.”

“Agent Young—”

“Dante.”

She stopped short. Dante. It fit him somehow—strong and a little bit intense. He masked it well, but there was fire lurking in the depths of his dark eyes, in the way he clenched his fists as they spoke about Travis. She shouldn’t be forming personal opinions about any man, let alone one connected with the case. Lei’s track record had more than proven that fact.

While she was still trying to process her strange and seriously inconvenient reaction to him, Emma had found her voice. She spoke softly, her southern accent giving her breathy tone a pretty lilt. She had a Dolly Parton thing going for her—at least before Dolly got a little crazy for plastic surgery—and Emma wasn’t above playing up the sweet-southern-belle thing when it suited her. “Travis Berkley is a sociopath with a healthy dose of narcissistic personality disorder—which you already know because you read the file. Everything is in the file. We have been doing our best to get past what he did to us—to our sisters—and that means forgetting as much as possible.”

Maybe for Emma. Lei couldn’t afford to forget. It had been her mistake that tipped the first domino that destroyed so many lives. While it was possible Travis could have gotten into the house on his own, she’d been the fool who let him in her window.

The knowledge made her hands shake. Emma might want to do everything to avoid that gory walk down memory lane, but Lei didn’t have that option. Guilt wrapped around her throat, tightening, ever tightening. “You have something specific you’re here for.”

Agent Rowan leaned forward, a clear indication that she’d take it from there. As much as Lei wanted the calming force Dante—Agent Young—seemed to emanate, she turned almost gratefully to the redhead. She eyed her as if Lei was a particularly interesting bug. “We’re theorizing this fucker—”

“Clarke.”

She didn’t look at him. “These women have seen enough, Dante. You know as well as I do that a few choice curse words aren’t going to have them scrambling for their sniffing salts.”

Lei understood now why Britton had paired these two together. Clarke was the blunt force designed to set a person back on their heels so they were too busy reacting to her foul mouth to stop and think that there might be a shrewd mind behind those deceptively big blue eyes. Dante on the other hand, was a cool summer mist, unruffling feathers and putting everyone in the room at ease with his calm presence. Both agents would be underestimated in different ways, which was only to their benefit.

Clever.

She eyed the dogs on the floor. Neither of them seemed overly concerned with the Feds in the room. Good. Lei had more than proven she could be fooled, but Saul couldn’t. Every time he reacted poorly to a person, she paid attention—and most of the time something eventually came to light to prove her dog’s instincts correct.

Clarke followed her gaze and then refocused on Lei and then Emma. “A lot of sociopaths think they’re smarter than everyone else in the room—some of them are even right—and Travis sure as hell falls into the latter category. His IQ is 167, and from all accounts, prison hasn’t broken him. What we need to know is if he’d encourage a fan to take these steps.”

“Of course he would. He’s a fucking psycho,” Emma snarled.

“What do you think?” Clarke was looking at Lei.

Because why not? Even now, cops thought Lei had some kind of inside track to the way Travis’s mind worked. She’d dated him for months, had slept with him countless times, and so she must have some insider knowledge to explain how the golden boy went so very, very wrong.

She hadn’t been able to give them a satisfactory answer then. She didn’t have one now, either. But she could try.

#WOTR18 #Review #Paranormal #BadGirls – Karma’s Revenge by Teresa Gabelman

In a world where human’s and vampires coexist, one woman with only one name and a score to settle has a hefty price on her head. She call’s herself Karma, other’s called her the Slayer of Vampires. Karma didn’t care what she was called as long as she got her revenge.

Axel Walker, also known as the Assassin, was a half-breed so his loyalty lay with the highest bidder. Who had the most money to hand him at the end of a job was the side he was on whether human or vampire. His highest pay day was yet to come and all he had to do was kill the one they call the Slayer of Vampires.

The Slayer and the Assassin become players in a tangled web of deceit. It is Karma and Axel who have to decide whether killing each other is the best plan of action or joining forces to take out those who dare make them pawns in their dangerous games.

The Bad Girl series is a 2018/2019 collaboration between 13 authors releasing one book a month about kiss-ass women with a penchant for being bad, Teresa Gabelman gives us May’s Bad girl with Karma’s Revenge.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I am a huge fan of Teresa’s so if she writes it, I will read it!!  I am so loving this world she created, as I do all her worlds.  But what I really love is I can SEE these characters in any of her book series totally working together to fight the bad guys!!

Sophia AKA Karma AKA The Slayer of Vampires is one bad ass bitch!!  She has killed multiple vampires and will not stop until she kills The Savior.  She is a human who can bring strong vampires to their knees.

Axel is an assassin who was hired to kill this Slayer of Vampires.  One look at Sophia and he knows she is the one he was hired to kill, but he is an assassin with moral code???  WHU!!!???  When he turns down the job because of his code plus his VERY STRONG NEED to claim the human, this Breed male is outta his mind trying to protect her and her bestie, Darin.

Can we talk about Darin for a hot minute??  SERIOUSLY the best friend you can ever have and the funniest person ever.   I laughed out loud so many times with his banter.  #DayMade!!

Anywho, so Axel and Sophia are put in a crazy situation of him, the paid assassin, protesting her, the Slayer of Vampires!!  The chemistry between the two is pretty hawt and the anxiety they both have over trust is so real.

When the final scenes are happening, my heart was racing and breaking all at the same time!!  #PanicAttackTeresa

I would love love love to see these two appear in another of Teresa’s worlds because I think they could be great allies for the Wolves or the Warriors!!
